Chapter 52: So He Likes Married Women
Gu Yang woke up groggily from sleep. Light streamed in through the not-fully-drawn curtains.
He buried his face into the pillow and stayed like that for another ten minutes before a soft knock sounded outside the door. Only then did he reluctantly get up.
When he opened the door, the gloomy, low-pressure aura around him was impossible to hide.
The servant who came to wake him showed no change in expression.
On his first day, seeing the young master like this had scared him half to death—he thought he might be fired on the spot. After working a few more days, he realized this was just the young master’s natural presence. Now, he was completely unfazed.
When Gu Yang went downstairs, Gu Qingxu was already sitting there eating breakfast.
Seeing him, Gu Qingxu took a sip of coffee and began his usual daily sarcasm with a smile:
“Finally decided to get up?”
Gu Yang sat across from him, staring at the bowl of oatmeal in front of him, stirring it lazily without any appetite.
Seeing this, the housemaid quickly brought other food over.
Gu Yang glanced at it, took a slice of toast, and slowly tore it apart while drinking milk. He pushed the nearly watery oatmeal aside.
Though ignored, Gu Qingxu kept talking:
“Does Song Yinxing also prepare this many dishes for you to choose from?”
Caught off guard, Gu Yang looked up in confusion.
“Did anyone just mention Song Yinxing?”
So now you’re already defending him, huh. Gu Qingxu sneered inwardly.
“If it weren’t because of you, why would I bring up that name? I don’t even know him.”
“What are you talking about? Who’s Song-something?”
A calm voice came from upstairs as Gu Yuhui walked down.
He had worked on company matters until midnight and would continue after breakfast.
The porridge in front of him had already gone cold and watery, but he didn’t care and drank it directly.
Gu Qingxu watched this without reacting, even though it was the bowl Gu Yang had been stirring earlier.
“It’s nothing,” Gu Qingxu said with a smile. “We were just talking about someone at school who likes Gu Yang.”
Ever since learning that Gu Yang wasn’t Gu Yuhui’s biological son, Gu Qingxu felt much more at ease.
Over the years, he had heard all kinds of gossip—some even saying Gu Yang was the child of some unknown man.
But he didn’t bother verifying it. After all, his so-called uncle couldn’t provide DNA anyway.
Besides, whether Gu Yang was truly part of the Gu family didn’t matter much to him.
He understood Gu Yuhui—there was no way a man who had worked so hard to build his empire would hand it over to someone else’s child.
So in the end, everything would belong to him.
He was even willing to help cover this up.
“Really? A girl at school likes Xiao Yang?”
Gu Yuhui smiled with interest.
Gu Qingxu smiled too, not correcting that it was actually a boy.
“You’re getting more charming as you grow up,” Gu Yuhui said. Then he added, “Speaking of which, a business partner’s child saw you at a banquet and took quite a liking to you.”
“She’s in your grade. After graduation, she’ll also go abroad. His father asked if you two could spend time together—if things go well…”
“No.”
Gu Yang interrupted immediately, his voice low and cold, eyes fixed on the white porcelain cup.
“That was fast,” Gu Yuhui chuckled. “She’s quite a good kid. Don’t you want to meet him?”
Gu Yang looked at him expressionlessly.
From this angle, they looked very similar—especially around the eyes.
“Gu Yang is still in high school. There’s no need to rush,” Gu Qingxu added.
Gu Yuhui didn’t push further.
After breakfast, Gu Yuhui left for the company, while the two went to school.
On the way, Gu Qingxu asked again, “Was Song Yinxing’s bicycle comfortable?”
Gu Yang, already annoyed, finally snapped.
“Are you secretly in love with Song Yinxing?”
Gu Qingxu’s expression instantly darkened.
He slammed the car door shut, and neither of them spoke again.
At school, workers were renovating the corridor.
Gu Qingxu recalled hearing it would be enclosed with glass and heated in winter.
“He Ming’an is serious about this? Too much money to burn?”
But it was a good thing.
The temperature had been dropping, and snow was forecast.
Inside the classroom—
“Good morning, Ah Yang,” He Ming’an greeted.
Gu Yang nodded lightly.
Yu Bai had already recovered from his earlier gloom.
He ran up happily.
“I saw the corridor renovation—this is a public-benefit project! Class monitor, I won’t allow anyone to oppose you!”
He Ming’an smiled.
“So, you’ve gotten over it?”
Yu Bai wilted.
“What else can I do… we’ll just be brothers from now on.”
He Ming’an seemed satisfied.
He noticed Gu Yang’s mood.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Gu Yang said lazily. “Gu Yuhui arranged a blind date for my future this morning.”
Yu Bai was shocked.
“And you…?”
“I refused. I don’t want to get married. I don’t want children.”
His face showed clear exhaustion.
He Ming’an didn’t speak.
Yu Bai suddenly realized something.
“Right… in your situation, you can’t legally marry here, and you can’t have kids…”
He assumed Gu Yang and Song Yinxing were already in a stable relationship.
After school, Song Yinxing asked Gu Yang out.
He originally wanted to return the scarf.
But Gu Yang had already changed to a different one—and didn’t seem to remember leaving the previous one behind.
The scarf sat neatly in Song Yinxing’s bag.
For a moment, selfishness took over.
“I had a nightmare last night.”
“What kind?”
Song Yinxing hesitated, then said nothing.
Because it was just a nightmare.
A future that hadn’t happened yet.
Since it hadn’t happened, it could still be changed.
Only he remembered.
The pain had been real.
He looked at Gu Yang, his gaze deep like a stormy sea.
Gu Yang glanced at the hand holding his.
“How’s your burn?” Song Yinxing asked softly.
“It’s fine. It blistered, then burst. I went to the hospital.”
“Don’t let it touch water. Don’t scratch it.”
“You sound experienced.”
“I’ve been burned before.”
Gu Yang remembered a cruel scene from the original story—but it hadn’t happened yet.
Suddenly, Gu Yang’s phone buzzed.
Lu Ji and Xie Wu had been beaten and sent to the hospital.
Lu Ji had been ambushed in an alley. Though strong, he was outnumbered.
Xie Wu passed by and helped.
With a helmet on his head, he fought fiercely.
Just as they were escaping, Xie Wu was struck from behind.
He collapsed.
Before losing consciousness, he thought: Good thing I listened to Gu Yang and carried a helmet…
The attackers fled, but the police arrived and caught them all.
At the hospital, people crowded the room.
Even Lu Ran came—though he looked slightly disappointed Lu Ji wasn’t seriously hurt.
He Ming’an had already contacted Xie Wu’s family.
Soon, Xie Wu’s older brother arrived.
The moment Song Yinxing saw him, his old ear injury throbbed again.
The brother rushed to the bedside, pushing Lu Ji aside.
Xie Wu, half-conscious, looked at him with teary eyes.
Then—
A voice echoed in his mind:
[So this is the older brother Xie Wu gets involved with later?]
[Turns out he likes married women… preferably widows with children. No wonder he got manipulated and lost everything.]
Xie Wu: “……”
His already dizzy head spun even more.
