Doomsday Grocery Store – CH358

Giants and the Homeland

Chapter 358: Giants and the Homeland

“Tang Tang, did you guys hear?”

A little blonde girl with braids ran up to Tang Yu’an, pointing in the direction of the teaching building, her face full of excitement.

“A bunch of weirdos came to the academy!”

“Hmm? Weirdos?”

Tang Yu’an put down the book in his hand.

At this moment, he and Zhou Qi were conducting magic research in the Elementalist Academy’s archives. Two or three months had already passed since they first entered the academy.

Because they weren’t starting entirely from scratch, their learning progress was rapid. It only took them a month to advance from the lower grades to the upper grades.

After that, the teachers at the Elementalist Academy stated that they had nothing left to teach them.

After all, the highest level among the teachers was only two stars, and the number of spells they mastered was limited. They had already taught them everything they knew.

If they wanted to learn higher-level magic, they needed to enter the archives themselves and self-study through magic books.

Holding a deep interest in magic, Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi naturally didn’t refuse.

However, they quickly encountered their first obstacle—

Reading the text.

The reason they were able to communicate flawlessly with the people of Roland before was entirely due to their voice translation packs. As for Roland’s written language, they couldn’t read a single word.

So now, using the magic books as textbooks, they began learning the language of the Roland Empire. And this little blonde girl named Sanna was their literacy teacher.

“What weirdos?” Tang Yu’an temporarily paused his studies and asked curiously.

“I heard they’re heroes from another world, here to save us!” Sanna said.

Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi couldn’t help but look at each other.

Heroes from another world?

They had heard Xenos mention the legends of Roland before, but they didn’t expect it to actually be true?

“But they look so weak,” Sanna said with a frown.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that Sanna was only ten years old; she was a little magic genius and had already passed the assessment for a one-star elementalist.

“I feel like they’re even weaker than my newborn baby sister!”

Tang Yu’an felt she was exaggerating a bit too much. Since they were heroes, how could they be weaker than a newborn baby?

At this point, the little girl lowered her voice again and said mysteriously, “I heard that one of the heroes was accidentally beaten to death by the guard squad as soon as he arrived.”

Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi were both stunned.

Roland actually had such a huge conflict with the heroes? Weren’t they supposed to be here to save this world? They formed such a massive grudge right upon meeting?

“So what’s the situation now?” Tang Yu’an asked nervously. “Did they fight their way into the Elementalist school?”

“No.” The little girl shook her head. “They came to learn magic.”

Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi were astonished.

Huh? One of their companions died, and the heroes didn’t care?

“How many heroes came in total?”

“Seems like dozens of them… They were really noisy and making a huge commotion,” Sanna said. “I wanted to keep watching, but the teacher chased me away.”

“Tang Tang, do you think these heroes from another world can really save Roland?”

Tang Yu’an thought for a moment and said, “Roland has an outstanding and benevolent leader, as well as hardworking and brave people. As long as you unite as one, I believe you can create a better future with your own strength.”

Sanna smiled and nodded, lifting her chin with a bit of pride. “That’s true!”

She then tossed that group of unreliable “heroes” to the back of her mind and ran over to the bookshelves to hunt for magical texts that interested her.

Tang Yu’an looked at Zhou Qi. He had originally wanted to discuss these suddenly appearing “heroes” with him a bit more, but he abruptly sensed something and couldn’t help but frown.

“Great God of Commerce, please send down a miracle and save us…”

Did something happen back at the homeland?

Sunlight filtered through the overlapping tree canopy, casting dappled, swaying shadows across the green fields of the forest.

The giant, You Ri, pushed aside the branches, turning his ear to listen to the movements within the woods.

A rabbit suddenly darted out from the bushes, running and bounding toward the depths of the forest.

You Ri quickly nocked an arrow and fired. The arrow grazed the rabbit’s body as it flew past, ultimately burying itself into a tree, its fletching quivering violently in the air.

Seeing that his strike had missed, You Ri didn’t waste any more arrows. He put down his bow and took great strides, chasing after the fleeing wild hare.

However, halfway through the chase, he suddenly came to a halt.

Behind the dense woods, something was faintly visible, and noisy sounds that didn’t belong in the forest drifted into his ears.

You Ri slowed his movements, carefully parting a leafy branch to reveal the scene behind the thicket.

Then, he laid eyes on a sight he would never forget for the rest of his life.

He saw that a clearing had appeared in this forest, and upon this clearing, an array of miniature houses of various shapes had been built at some unknown point in time.

These houses varied in height. The tall ones were perfectly square, with the tallest being about half a body taller than him. The smaller ones looked even more exquisite and cute, none of them exceeding the height of his knees.

And living inside these houses were palm-sized creatures.

The noisy sounds he had heard earlier were coming from these beings.

With his exceptional eyesight, he could see that every single one of these little creatures looked very much like him, practically miniature versions of humans, but their size was vastly smaller than his. Looking at them was extraordinarily fascinating.

Because he was far away, he couldn’t clearly hear what they were shouting, but it sounded somewhat like a structured language.

Were these his kin? But why were they all so small?

You Ri couldn’t help but step closer.

However, after advancing just a few steps, he was blocked by an invisible barrier. No matter how he tried to push forward, he couldn’t break through this layer of obstruction.

As he drew near, the noisy sounds also quieted down, as if the entire miniature kingdom had ceased to function.

Upon hearing the news, Old Man Li hurriedly rushed to the window. As soon as he looked up, he saw the massive figure roaming outside the homeland.

A giant.

He had heard the two children mention them before, but this was the first time they had seen a giant up close since they transferred to this world.

The towering figure was filled with a sense of oppression. Visually, it was nearly 20 meters tall, wearing clothes made of animal skins, and exuding a wild, barbaric aura.

Most of the residents in the homeland had discovered this giant.

Nearly a year had passed since they were brought to this world by the God of Commerce, and most people had already adapted to life here.

Under the protection of the guardian barrier, they could still live a quiet and peaceful life in this perilous primeval forest. Such a life felt full of unreality.

Now, seeing this giant appear outside their homeland, quite a few people actually felt a sense of the other shoe finally dropping.

Sure enough, suffering and danger always accompanied them…

Although they had seen many monsters in their original wasteland world and frequently encountered giantized creatures after arriving in this world, they had never seen a giant human before.

This feeling was utterly terrifying.

While giantized creatures possessed formidable strength, they lacked intelligence, and… that giant seemed to be able to see them!

This was something that had never happened before.

Could it be that the protection bestowed by the God of Commerce was ineffective against giants?

All activities within the homeland slowly ground to a halt. The people who were originally bustling with farming, infrastructure construction, and production operations all put down their work, holding their breath and not daring to make the slightest sound.

Panic spread through the crowd.

And the instinct for survival also caused some people to reach for their weapons.

This was the place they depended on for survival, and the homeland was not lacking in ability users. If a fight truly broke out, they could only defend their home to the death.

The believers from the Yanlong Homeland who had come to work and farm in the Desolate City Homeland began to pray devoutly in their hearts, hoping that the God of Commerce could hear their calls and send down a miracle once again.

Meanwhile, the ability users in the Desolate City Homeland had already quietly swung into action, observing the giant while communicating and formulating an action plan in their channels.

However, before they could take further action, three figures flew out from within the homeland.

“Aren’t those the inscription class teachers?”

“Teachers Tours, Jackson, and Lina! They can actually fly! Are they wind-element ability users?”

That’s right, the three people who took to the sky were exactly Tours, Jackson, and the others whom Tang Yu’an had brought to the homeland.

Having broken through their level restrictions, they were arguably the strongest individuals currently in the Desolate City Homeland—Red Carp, Chi Hao, and other mid-to-high-tier ability users who had received the news were still on their way back.

Tours controlled the equipment engraved with flying inscriptions, his eyes locked onto the giant in the distance, his expression solemn.

This giant somewhat resembled the races from Roland’s legends, and he was wearing animal skin clothing and holding a bow and arrow, meaning he should be an intelligent lifeform…

He didn’t know if communication was possible.

Under his watch, the giant suddenly clenched his hands into fists and began hammering against the invisible guardian barrier in front of him, all while saying something incomprehensible.

The sound was a deep buzzing, roaring in everyone’s ears like thunder.

Tours couldn’t help but frown. Gripping the magic wand he had only recently crafted, he was prepared to launch an attack at any moment.

However, right at that moment, a clear, ringing voice suddenly echoed out: “Wait a minute!”

Everyone looked toward the source of the voice, only to see two familiar figures swiftly flying over from the direction of the teleportation array. In a flash, they arrived at the front lines, blocking the space between them and the giant. It was none other than…

“Tang! Zhou!”

“Great! The two divine envoys have returned!”
