Chapter 86: Want to Touch?
“Third, where’s the Boss?”
Lin Xiao’s voice came from the RV doorway, heavy with the lethargy of the sweltering afternoon.
Seeing that the door was ajar, he leaned in, his gaze scanning the interior. “I clearly saw him come in just now. How did he vanish into thin air?”
Chu Yang was sprawled across the bed, trying to catch every bit of the faint, cool breeze blowing from the air conditioner.
Hearing Lin Xiao, he didn’t even bother opening his eyes. He just lazily tilted his chin, gesturing toward the bathroom at the back of the cabin. “Over there,” he muttered listlessly. “Taking a shower.”
Lin Xiao turned his full attention to Chu Yang.
The young man was lying there openly, shirtless and wearing only a pair of light shorts. His pale skin looked especially striking in the dim light, and his relaxed posture was enough to make anyone jealous.
“Tsk, an RV really is something else!” Lin Xiao clicked his tongue in envy. Stepping inside without ceremony, he flopped down onto a nearby folding chair.
He leaned back and let out a long, contented sigh. “Being able to lie down for a nap, and this AC… even if it sounds like it’s gasping for its last breath, it’s still ten times better than outside! Man, this is comfortable!”
“Of course it is,” Chu Yang said, a smug grin tugging at the corners of his lips. He turned his head and raised an eyebrow at Lin Xiao. “Brother Jiang had the foresight to prepare this. This rig is practically a cheat code for surviving the apocalypse.”
As he spoke, his eyes caught the open doorway. Waves of scorching air were rolling in from outside, quickly swallowing the precious cool breeze from the air conditioner.
Chu Yang frowned instantly and glared at Lin Xiao. “Hey, didn’t anyone teach you to close the door behind you? You’re letting all the cold air out! Hurry up and shut it, the heat is pouring in!”
“Alright, alright, I’m on it!” Lin Xiao replied casually, though his body stayed glued to the seat. He slowly turned, reached out, and pulled the door shut with a heavy clang.
He clapped his hands together, only then remembering his actual errand. “Right, Li Yu and the others finished making lunch. We set up under that old locust tree outside—it’s a lot cooler over there. Come on, hurry up.”
“Food?” The word only seemed to deepen Chu Yang’s exhaustion.
He rubbed his flat stomach. It was completely empty, but he had zero appetite, his throat feeling parched and tight. “This damn weather… the heat is suffocating. Who has the energy to eat? Back in the day, mealtimes were the highlight of my day.”
Lin Xiao looked at his sluggish expression, his eyes trailing down to Chu Yang’s flat, slender midsection. Suddenly, a teasing smirk appeared on his face.
Sitting up straight, Lin Xiao puffed out his chest with an exaggerated wink. “Hey, Third, I’m not trying to lecture you, but look at those skinny arms and legs. You’re all skin and bones—not a single ab in sight! Now take a look at my build—”
Getting carried away, he grabbed the hem of his T-shirt with one hand, ready to hike it up and show off the solid muscle he had earned from surviving the apocalypse.
Just as his fingers lifted the fabric an inch—
Bang!
The bathroom door was yanked open with force.
Jiang Jue stepped out.
He had a dark bath towel wrapped loosely around his waist. Drops of water trailed down from his damp black hair, gliding past his sharp jawline into the hollow of his collarbone, then tracing the firm, clean contours of his chest before disappearing into the towel.
He didn’t look at Chu Yang. Instead, his ink-black eyes locked straight onto Lin Xiao’s restless hand. His gaze was perfectly calm, yet it radiated a heavy, silent pressure that instantly made the air in the cabin freeze.
Lin Xiao’s hands stopped dead in their tracks.
He couldn’t pull the shirt up, nor did he dare drop it down.
Letting out a dry, nervous laugh under that intense stare, he obediently and slowly smoothed the hem of his shirt back into place.
Only then did Jiang Jue shift his eyes toward Chu Yang on the bed. When his gaze fell upon the bare torso, he paused for a brief second.
Stepping over to the bedside, he picked up the clean T-shirt Chu Yang had tossed aside earlier and moved to slip it over his head.
“From now on, you’re not allowed to walk around shirtless,” Jiang Jue said. His voice was quiet and even, but it carried an undeniable firmness.
Chu Yang was taken aback for a moment before catching on. He took the shirt and pulled it on with practiced ease, muttering a quiet excuse: “Brother Jiang, you can’t blame me for this. It’s way too hot… Wearing clothes just makes the sweat stick to your skin, and it’s uncomfortable.”
Jiang Jue offered no reply. He simply looked down at him, his gaze lingering on the shoulders now covered by the fabric. Only after Chu Yang had straightened his shirt did Jiang Jue give a slight, approving nod.
Turning back to Lin Xiao, his tone returned to its usual crisp, flat delivery: “Anything else?”
“Nope, nothing at all!” Lin Xiao felt as though he had just been pardoned from an execution and scrambled out of his seat. “Just came to call you guys for lunch! I’ll head over first—don’t take too long!”
Before he even finished speaking, he backed toward the exit, nearly tripping over his own boots. He pulled the door shut with a hasty clang. Only when his back pressed against the outside of the RV did he let out a long breath of relief, smacking his own forehead in annoyance. “Why did I forget about that… With those two, why was I trying to show off? I practically asked for that!”
Inside the RV, Chu Yang finished fixing his shirt, only then taking in Jiang Jue’s current appearance.
The towel hung loosely around his waist, leaving his broad upper body completely bare.
Water droplets rolled across well-defined muscle lines. The sculpted eight-pack abs on his midsection rose and fell faintly with his breathing, exuding an undeniable sense of raw strength.
Chu Yang’s eyes widened in genuine awe. Staring openly, he made no effort to hide his envy. “Whoa… Brother Jiang, your build… is incredible!” He unconsciously swallowed hard.
Jiang Jue noticed his shining eyes and the hungry, admiring look on his face. A faint, subtle warmth stirred deep in his dark eyes, though his tone remained perfectly level: “Want to touch?”
Chu Yang’s eyes lit up even brighter, his head nodding eagerly like a chick pecking at grain: “Can I?!”
Jiang Jue gave a slight nod.
With permission granted, Chu Yang immediately reached out. Driven by sheer curiosity and admiration, he pressed his hand against Jiang Jue’s abs.
The muscle beneath his palm was rock-solid and firm, carrying the cool moisture of the fresh shower, yet burning with vibrant heat and strength just beneath the skin.
Chu Yang’s fingers were slender and slightly rough; long hours of wielding a blade had left thin calluses along his fingertips and the crook of his thumb.
That slightly coarse texture brushed across Jiang Jue’s bare skin, carrying the curious warmth of his touch.
Jiang Jue’s entire body instantly locked up.
A strange, sharp tingle sparked from the point of contact, racing through his nerves in an instant.
The ironclad self-discipline he had always taken pride in seemed completely useless at that moment; even his steady breathing faltered by half a beat.
Right then, Chu Yang let out a soft sigh, his fingertips lingering as he rubbed the defined contours reluctantly. “So solid… The muscle tone is amazing… Why can’t I get mine to look like this?”
Pulling his hand back, he looked down and poked his own soft, flat stomach. Comparing it to Jiang Jue’s physique, his shoulders slumped in dejection. He muttered, “I train hard and slash zombies every single day just like everyone else… How come I can’t build abs like that?”
Jiang Jue’s Adam’s apple bobbed heavily. His eyes drifted to Chu Yang’s fingertips, his throat tightening noticeably.
Without a word, he grabbed his fresh clothes from the side and turned his back to Chu Yang. Moving with uncharacteristic haste, he pulled the shirt over his head, thoroughly concealing the tense, sculpted lines beneath the fabric.
Chu Yang was still busy lamenting over his own stomach, reminiscing about the feel of those solid muscles. Seeing Jiang Jue get dressed so quickly, he felt a bit disappointed, but didn’t dwell on it.
Oh well. No matter how great someone else’s build is, it still belongs to them.
He clenched his fists, silently making a vow to himself—starting tomorrow, he was definitely doubling his training routine!
