Daily Life of Being Turned Gay by the Male Lead After Transmigrating into an Apocalypse – CH69

That Means Tacit Consent

Chapter 69: That Means Tacit Consent

Chu Yang did not answer right away. Instead, he turned his head to look at Jiang Jue, his brows slightly raised as he silently asked for his opinion with his eyes.

Jiang Jue’s gaze fell on Jiang Lin’s face, which was filled with pleading and stubborn resolve. His lips parted faintly, as if he intended to say something, but in the end, he remained silent.

Averting his gaze completely, as though she were nothing more than thin air, he stepped forward and continued marching along their planned route.

Seeing this, Lin Xiao, Su Mubai, Wang Qiang, and Li Yu exchanged quiet glances and fell in line behind him, none of them asking a single question.

Jiang Lin stood rooted to the spot, watching their broad backs recede without hesitation. She blinked in mild surprise before her eyes brightened with a faint spark of hope, a tiny smile curving the corner of her lips.

He didn’t speak… and he didn’t explicitly refuse me… That means tacit consent!

Without a moment’s delay, she broke into a light jog to trail at the rear of the formation, maintaining a careful distance—neither too far to lose sight of them nor too close to seem intrusive.

As he walked, Chu Yang couldn’t resist looking over his shoulder at the persistent figure trailing behind them. Glancing back at Jiang Jue’s tall, rigid back ahead, he grumbled inwardly: What does Brother Jiang actually mean by this? Is it a yes, or is it a no?

Grumbling aside, Chu Yang kept his pace steady, following closely in Jiang Jue’s footsteps.

The squad moved silently through several deserted streets before coming to a halt in front of an eight-story, old-fashioned mixed commercial and residential building.

Jiang Jue tilted his head back, his sharp gaze sweeping across the façade before settling on the middle floors.

His thumb unconsciously brushed the hilt of the blade at his waist. When he spoke, his voice was quiet, yet it carried an unmistakable weight that instantly put everyone on high alert: “Stay sharp once we step inside.”

The group filed through the shattered entrance. The open ground floor was littered with broken debris and thick layers of gray dust, with several overturned metal shelves lining the corners. Any discerning eye could tell that this place had been a bustling supermarket before the world ended.

Most of the inventory had been cleaned out long ago, but a handful of overlooked supplies still lay scattered across the aisles.

The air hung heavy with the pungent smell of dust mingled with a faint, damp mildew.

After confirming that the immediate vicinity was clear of threats, Wang Qiang took the initiative.

Hurrying over to an overturned rack, he dropped onto one knee and reached deep beneath the metal frame to scavenge. Before long, he pulled out several intact bags of potato chips and two unopened bottles of mineral water. Wiping the grime from the plastic, he deftly slipped them into his bulging hiking backpack.

Chu Yang crouched in a shadowy corner, picking up a sealed loaf of bread covered in a thick layer of dust.

He dusted it off, tore off a small piece, and popped it into his mouth. To his surprise, the rich aroma of wheat paired with a subtle sweetness bloomed on his tongue; it actually tasted quite fresh.

Jiang Lin slipped inside behind the rest of the group. Her eyes swept quickly across the vast hall, lighting up the moment they caught sight of the scattered food packages.

Her movements were remarkably nimble and quiet. She prioritized compact, high-calorie items with long shelf lives: vacuum-sealed braised eggs, bags of dry toasted bread slices, packs of cured beef jerky, and a few bottles of electrolyte sports drinks.

Her modest backpack was soon stuffed to the brim.

Testing the weight of the bag, she unzipped the deep inner pocket of her heavy winter coat. She tucked several bars of high-energy chocolate and nutrient bars inside until the pocket bulged into a round mound, only then pulling the zipper shut to conceal her private stash.

She worked in complete silence, taking great care not to create unnecessary noise, occasionally scanning the dim corners with sharp vigilance to ensure no danger was creeping up on her before continuing her search.

The others dispersed across the floor, systematically combing the supermarket for useful goods.

Lin Xiao wandered around the checkout counters when his eyes suddenly gleamed. Reaching beneath a broken register, he hauled out a few packs of spiced peanuts and vacuum-sealed edamame beans. Squeezing the packaging, he chuckled under his breath, “Not bad at all. Perfect to go with a drink.” With a grin, he shoved them straight into his sack.

Tucked away in the corner of another counter, Li Yu uncovered a stash of sanitary pads. While the men had no use for them, they were indispensable monthly necessities for her.

Meanwhile, the other survivors who had chosen to fend for themselves had scattered throughout this building and the adjacent storefronts, frantically scouring every corner for survival supplies.

“Mom! Over here! There are canned goods!” In a neighboring grocery shop, a young boy called out in hushed excitement, pointing toward several glass jars of preserved fruit beneath a shelf as he waved frantically to the woman beside him.

“Keep your voice down!” The woman rushed over, clamping a hand over the child’s mouth while her eyes darted nervously across the room.

Confirming that nothing was stirring, she let out a shaky breath of relief, swept the jars into her canvas tote bag, and hissed, “Hurry, check if there’s anything else! Not another sound!”

On the second floor of the main complex, another small scavenging team found several pristine crates of instant noodles tucked inside a dry storage closet at the end of the hall.

“We hit the jackpot! We’re rich!” A young man’s voice trembled with excitement, but he clamped a hand over his own mouth a second later. Working frantically with his partner, they tore open the cardboard boxes and stuffed the noodle packets into their packs until the seams threatened to burst.

“Aaargh—!”

A bloodcurdling shriek suddenly ripped through the building!

It was the young man named Xiao Chen!

A shadow lurking in the high rafters—moving with terrifying, unnatural speed—dropped straight down from the ceiling corner. Its long, blackened talons drove violently into the side of his neck!

Dark blood erupted like a fountain. Xiao Chen’s eyes bulged in shock, a wet, choked gurgle catching in his throat before his body collapsed heavily onto the floor.

“Xiao Chen!!”

“Zombies! It’s a zombie!”

“Run—!”

Facing sudden, brutal death at such close quarters, the survivors completely lost their heads. Hysterical screams and frantic sobs echoed through the corridors as people scattered blindly, while others collapsed to their knees in sheer terror.

Jiang Jue and his squad were directly below on the first floor.

Almost at the exact second Xiao Chen’s scream rang out, Jiang Jue snapped his head upward. His sharp gaze didn’t fix on the monster that had just claimed the young man, but shot straight toward the third floor above!

His heightened perception caught it—a presence vastly different from an ordinary, clumsy zombie, flickering past the stairwell at blistering speed!

“Leave this to us,” Lin Xiao called out, reacting instantly. Glancing toward the stairs, he rolled his shoulders as the heavy straight blade at his waist slid smoothly into his grip, gleaming with a frosty edge.

He exchanged a quick hand signal with Wang Qiang.

Flanking the entrance from the left and right, the two men advanced toward the stairwell, their footsteps light yet radiating lethal intent.

Su Mubai held the center, gripping his weapon to shield Li Yu and young Little Yu while keeping a vigilant eye on the dark perimeters to intercept any sudden ambush.

Chu Yang’s attention, however, was not on the panic erupting above.

He noticed Jiang Jue’s brow suddenly knit tight, a flicker of rare gravity flashing across those fathomless dark eyes.

In the next instant, Jiang Jue’s gaze locked onto the shadowed landing above the stairwell—a spot where, to the naked eye, nothing existed except murky gloom.

Without warning, Jiang Jue launched into motion!

Without uttering a single command to the squad, his body blurred as he leaped forward.

Instead of taking the stairs, he lightly tapped the toe of his boot against the metal frame of an overturned shelf, using the momentum to vault straight into the upper air like an arrow loosed from a bow.
