Chapter 114: Kiss
Li Yu struggled to hold up Wang Qiang’s dead weight. Catching her breath, she looked at Su Mubai with an apologetic, worried expression. “Brother Su, I have to get this blockhead upstairs first; he’s completely wasted. As for Brother Lin…” She glanced toward Lin Xiao, who was still rambling to himself, and hesitated. “Can you handle him on your own? Do you want me to come back down and help you in a minute?”
Su Mubai followed her gaze.
Lin Xiao was trying to push himself up using the edge of the table, but halfway to his feet, his knees buckled, and he nearly crashed back down onto the tabletop.
Looking away, Su Mubai shook his head at Li Yu, his tone calm and steady. “It’s fine. Take Qiangzi up first. I can handle him.”
“Alright… sorry to trouble you, Brother Su,” Li Yu said with a nod. Without another word, she hauled the groaning, limp man toward the stairs, muttering under her breath, “I told you to go easy on the drinks, but you never listen. You weigh a ton… Just wait until tomorrow, see if I don’t give you an earful…”
Her footsteps slowly faded down the hallway, leaving only Su Mubai and Lin Xiao in the quiet dining room.
Su Mubai walked over to the table.
Lin Xiao sat slumped over, his forehead resting flat against the edge of the wood. His broad shoulders twitched faintly, as if the room were spinning wildly, and his breath reeked heavily of alcohol.
Reaching out, Su Mubai gripped his arm to steady his swaying frame and spoke softly: “Lin Xiao, time to go to bed.”
Lin Xiao slowly turned his head, squinting with great effort to focus on him.
Suddenly, a broad, silly grin broke across his face—an innocent, drunken smile completely devoid of the restless irritation that had shadowed his brow all day.
He raised a clumsy hand and gently poked Su Mubai’s cheek with a single finger. The touch was remarkably light, carrying an instinctive, childlike intimacy. “Little Bai… why are you… swaying? And… why are there two of you?”
Tilting his head, he leaned closer until his nose was practically brushing Su Mubai’s skin. He studied him intently through hazy eyes, then beamed even wider. “Doesn’t matter… both Little Bais… look really good…”
Su Mubai went rigid. The spot on his cheek where the finger had landed still burned with a lingering heat.
Yet he didn’t pull away, nor did he scold him. Instead, he softened his voice with a gentle patience he didn’t even realize he possessed. “Stop fooling around. Let’s get you upstairs to sleep.”
Lin Xiao let out a pair of goofy chuckles, though whether he truly understood the words was anyone’s guess.
All at once, he went completely limp, collapsing forward without warning. His heavy head, carrying hot, liquor-scented breath, dropped straight against Su Mubai’s neck and shoulder.
Caught off guard by the sudden weight, Su Mubai let out a muffled grunt. His footing slipped, and he had to take half a step backward to keep from tumbling to the floor.
Drawing a deep breath, he braced his arms and pulled the clinging man upright, his tone laced with helpless fondness. “Stand up straight. I’m taking you to your room.”
Lin Xiao gave a vague hum, nodding haphazardly, though he kept the majority of his weight plastered against Su Mubai. He mumbled softly, “Okay… I’ll listen to Little Bai… Little Bai is… the best…”
Tangled in an awkward, clumsy embrace, the two of them slowly shuffled and swayed their way up to the third floor.
Su Mubai was practically half-carrying, half-dragging Lin Xiao by the time he steered him through the doorway of an empty room.
The room was pitch-black, save for a pale sliver of moonlight filtering through the windowpanes.
Su Mubai navigated the dark toward the bed, intending to ease Lin Xiao down onto the mattress.
Just as he bent at the waist to let go, Lin Xiao—who had seemed entirely limp a second before—suddenly gripped him with surprising strength. His arms locked around Su Mubai’s waist, and leveraging their momentum as they leaned forward, he abruptly rolled—
Thump.
In a disorienting blur of movement, Su Mubai was dragged down by pure brute force, his back sinking deep into the soft mattress. Above him, Lin Xiao pinned him firmly against the bed.
“Lin Xiao, what are you—” Su Mubai’s breath caught in his throat.
He instinctively tried to push the other man off, but the heavy weight pinning him down and the tight embrace around his waist left him completely immobilized.
Before he could finish his sentence, his eyes locked with Lin Xiao’s, which were staring down at him, remarkably clear and bright in the dim moonlight.
It was no longer just the hazy glaze of drunkenness; there was an intense, stubborn focus in those eyes.
Lin Xiao stared intently at him, as though trying to memorize every line of his face in the dark. He murmured in a low daze, his warm breath fanning across Su Mubai’s skin: “Little Bai… you came back…”
His gaze drifted slightly, looking through reality as if reaching for an elusive figure that only ever visited him in the dead of night. “…It feels so nice.”
Then, before Su Mubai could process the words or the sudden turn of events, Lin Xiao leaned in with quiet, irresistible certainty.
A kiss—heavy with the scent of alcohol, yet impossibly soft—landed lightly on Su Mubai’s lips.
Su Mubai’s eyes blew wide open. Every muscle in his body instantly locked as stiff as stone, and his mind went completely blank with a deafening ring.
Time seemed to stretch out into eternity, freezing completely.
It was a gentle, fleeting touch, pulling away almost immediately—so brief that it could have easily been mistaken for an illusion.
Yet the lingering tingle on his lips, the burning flush against his skin, and the distinct, familiar scent of Lin Xiao hovering inches from his face were undeniably real.
Lin Xiao mumbled incoherently against Su Mubai’s trembling mouth, letting out a soft, contented sigh. “Little Bai… you’re so sweet…”
Having spoken those words, whatever lingering strength and consciousness he had left evaporated completely. His rigid posture collapsed, his arms went limp, and he rolled sideways off Su Mubai, slumping heavily onto the mattress.
Within seconds, the quiet room filled with the steady, heavy sound of drunken snoring.
Su Mubai remained pinned to the bed, frozen in place for what felt like ages.
Only after several long seconds did he slowly regain command of his limbs, pushing himself up into a sitting position with great effort.
In the dark, he couldn’t see his own reflection, but his cheeks and ears burned with a blistering heat.
His hand rose involuntarily, trembling fingertips lightly grazing his own lips.
The damp, tingling sensation still clung to his mouth, along with the deep, gravelly echo of ‘so sweet.’
He snatched his hand back as if he had touched a scorching flame.
Su Mubai had never considered himself anything other than ordinary. Back when they had first entered their university dorm, his roommates had been a typical group of straight young men—playing video games, gossiping about attractive girls, and daydreaming endlessly about future girlfriends.
At first, Lin Xiao had seemed no different: bright, sunny, fiercely loyal, always ready to take a hit for his friends, occasionally chiming in when the others debated which department had the prettiest girls.
Yet over time, Lin Xiao had always been a little different from the rest.
He had always been more attentive, and noticeably more… clingy, especially whenever it came to Su Mubai.
