Chapter 102: I Am Also Dual-Element
Watching this incredible scene unfold, Su Mubai’s pupils constricted in sheer disbelief.
A Wood-element ability… He had truly awakened a second superpower! Better yet, it was the Wood Element, an ability of immense value for survival support, battlefield control, and long-term potential. This meant he would no longer be limited to healing wounds; he could now hold his own in combat as well.
“Brother! That’s amazing! You have a new ability!” Little Yu was the first to cheer, his tears instantly giving way to a bright smile.
“Congratulations, Little Bai!” Chu Yang grinned warmly, his eyes crinkling with genuine delight. “This is fantastic! A dual-element user! Our team’s combat power just took a massive leap forward!”
The Wood Element held tremendous utility. Whether as support or direct offense, they had just gained a formidable trump card.
Even the typically reserved Jiang Jue gave a concise nod. “Congratulations. Take time to adapt to it.”
Lin Xiao stared at the fresh emerald green wrapped around Su Mubai’s fingertips—a vibrant symbol of new life and hope—and the heart that had been caught in his throat finally settled back into place. The overwhelming panic that had rattled him gradually dissolved into a wave of profound relief, along with a faint, unspoken trace of… pride.
Still, he refused to let any softness show. Reaching out, he somewhat roughly brushed the cold sweat from Su Mubai’s forehead with the back of his hand, though an undeniable tenderness lingered beneath the blunt motion.
“Don’t pull a stunt like this again. Know your limits when you absorb a core. You almost… scared me to death.” Pursing his lips, Lin Xiao quickly looked away, the tips of his ears flushing slightly red.
Feeling the faint pulse of energy at his fingertips and seeing his companions so full of care and joy on his behalf, a deep warmth spread through Su Mubai’s chest.
He nodded earnestly. “Yeah, I understand. I’ll definitely be more careful next time. Thank you, everyone.”
Noticing that Su Mubai’s condition had stabilized and his breathing had evened out, Jiang Jue turned to Chu Yang and murmured, “Let him rest. We should head back.”
Chu Yang nodded, then lowered his voice as he spoke to Lin Xiao and Little Yu. “Brother Xiao, Little Yu, we’re going next door. Call us right away if anything comes up, don’t hesitate.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got him,” Lin Xiao replied.
Only then did Chu Yang tip-toe out of the room alongside Jiang Jue, quietly clicking the door shut behind them.
Back in their own room, Chu Yang flopped down onto the bed, unable to contain his excitement. “Little Bai is truly incredible! He usually seems so gentle and quiet, but who would’ve thought he had this kind of potential? He managed to awaken dual elements without making a sound! The Wood Element, no less—his offensive capability is going to be so much stronger now!”
Jiang Jue stood by the window, gazing out into the pitch-black night. Hearing the undisguised admiration in Chu Yang’s voice, he stayed silent for a moment before speaking up in a remarkably calm, even tone.
“I am also dual-element.”
“Huh?” Chu Yang blanked out for a second, caught off guard. He turned his head to look at Jiang Jue’s tall back.
Jiang Jue turned around, fixing his dark eyes squarely on Chu Yang, and repeated himself. “Aside from the Lightning Element, I also possess a second superpower. It’s Psychic-type.”
Chu Yang froze, his eyes widening in complete astonishment as the words failed him.
Of course he already knew!
In the original novel, Jiang Jue’s psychic ability was his most closely guarded trump card, a lethal secret he almost never exposed to outsiders. It was precisely this hidden edge that allowed him to outmaneuver rival factions, survive fatal crises throughout the apocalypse, and eventually climb to the absolute peak. Even among the elite core team he established later, those who knew this secret could be counted on one hand—and every single one of them had earned his absolute trust through countless near-death trials.
To the rest of the world, he was simply the terrifying wielder of destructive lightning.
Yet the apocalypse had only just started. How could Jiang Jue share such a vital secret with him so casually?
A turbulent rush of emotion hit Chu Yang all at once: shock, disbelief, and the overwhelming weight of realizing he had been completely, unreservedly trusted.
Did the big boss… genuinely see him as a brother worth trusting with his life?
“Brother Jiang…” Chu Yang started, his throat suddenly dry. He searched Jiang Jue’s steady, bottomless gaze and found no hidden motives, no calculation—only complete, honest transparency.
Chu Yang took a deep breath to calm the storm in his chest, immediately straightening his posture. His voice turned solemn, carrying the weight of a sacred vow. “Brother Jiang, don’t worry! I, Chu Yang, swear to heaven that I will take this secret to my grave! I won’t breathe a single word of it, even if someone threatens my life! I won’t even murmur it in my sleep!”
He paused, then broke into a bright grin, his eyes practically sparkling with pure admiration. “Seriously though, Brother Jiang, you’re unbelievable! Dual abilities are rare enough as it is, but Lightning paired with Psychic? That is literally an unbeatable combination! No wonder you’re always so calm and sharp. That’s insane!”
Watching Chu Yang’s open, unguarded admiration and loyalty, a faint glint of warmth surfaced in Jiang Jue’s usually calm black eyes, and the corners of his lips curved upward.
“Mm,” Jiang Jue murmured, his voice noticeably lighter than usual.
“Alright, Yangyang,” Jiang Jue said, walking over to the side of the bed and naturally reaching out to ruffle Chu Yang’s messy hair. “Time to sleep. You’ve been up half the night, so get some rest. We need to save our strength for the road tomorrow.”
“Oh, right.” Feeling the gentle brush against his hair, a heavy wave of exhaustion finally hit Chu Yang. He couldn’t help but let out a long yawn, a tiny tear forming in the corner of his eye.
Slipping off his jacket, he slid beneath the covers. “Brother Jiang, get some rest too. Good night…”
Soon, the room fell quiet, save for the rhythmic rise and fall of their breathing. Chu Yang fell asleep almost instantly, while Jiang Jue lay quietly in the dark for a while longer, listening to the steady breaths beside him before finally closing his eyes.
Meanwhile, in the room next door.
Once Chu Yang and Jiang Jue were gone, Lin Xiao finally let his shoulders drop, realizing the back of his shirt was damp with cold sweat. Seeing that Su Mubai was still struggling to stay awake, he stepped forward and gently helped him lie flat.
Little Yu, who had been waiting quietly by the wall, shuffled over to the side of the bed. Grasping the bed frame with both hands, he tilted his small head up, his large eyes still tinged with worry. “Brother Little Bai, are you really alright? Does it still hurt anywhere?”
Su Mubai turned toward him with a comforting smile. “I’m really okay now, Little Yu. It doesn’t hurt at all anymore. Go to sleep, okay?”
“Listen to him, Little Yu. We have a long journey ahead of us tomorrow,” Lin Xiao added, softening his voice as he ruffled the boy’s soft hair. “Go get some rest. Kids who stay up late don’t grow tall.”
“Okay! Good night, Brother Little Bai! Good night, Brother Xiao!” Reassured at last, Little Yu obediently climbed into his bed. Within minutes, the faint, steady sound of gentle breathing filled the space. The boy had been terrified for hours; now that the danger had passed, he fell into an exceptionally deep sleep.
Lin Xiao turned his attention back to the bed.
Su Mubai had already shut his eyes, his complexion appearing even more pale in the dim light. The pajamas he wore were drenched from the cold sweat of his earlier agony, clinging tightly to his skin and tracing his slender frame. The darkened fabric around his collar and back looked sticky and utterly uncomfortable.
