Chapter 205
Due to habit, many beastmen do not work during the rainy season. Even if they do, their workload is lighter than in other seasons. As a result, everyone has plenty of time to rest this month. Sleeping to the sound of raindrops is probably one of the most comfortable things, especially on a soft bed. Bai Tu felt completely relaxed, as if soaking in a warm hot spring.
A normal nap lasts about two hours, just enough time to wake up when the midday sun is no longer scorching. On rainy days, naps tend to last longer. Bai Tu’s sleep schedule was irregular, and lately, he had been sleeping longer than usual. When he woke up, the sky outside was already dark. He opened his eyes and stared blankly out the window. Darkness was normal, but why did the view look so strange?
Also, the blanket felt extra comfortable today. It didn’t feel like this when he first fell asleep. Did Lang Qi switch the bed sheet to a blanket while he was sleeping? But it wasn’t the season for blankets yet—wasn’t it a little early? Still groggy from sleep, Bai Tu’s mind was a mess. He pondered for a long time but couldn’t figure out the key point—until a dark shadow suddenly appeared in front of him, and something rubbed against his head.
Bai Tu: “?”
Slowly, lightly, and very lazily, he turned his head—only to see a massive black wolf, hundreds of times larger than himself. Shock flashed in his eyes. Why had Lang Qi grown so much? The last time he transformed, the size difference wasn’t this extreme.
As Bai Tu was still processing his thoughts, Lang Qi had already shifted back into human form, quickly put on his clothes, scooped up the dazed little rabbit from the bed, gave him a quick kiss, and tucked him into his arms.
Lang Qi was satisfied.
Bai Tu, still in shock, only snapped out of it when Lang Qi walked out of the room.
Wait… did Lang Qi just take the opportunity to kiss him?
Still a little slow to react, Bai Tu yawned as he glanced at the dark sky outside. Even though he had just woken up, he still felt sleepy. Not only that—his mind was sluggish. He was usually much quicker than this. He blamed it on his beast form, assuming that turning into an animal must have reduced his brain capacity. With that excuse, he successfully convinced himself.
Since he was already in Lang Qi’s arms, Bai Tu decided to just go with the flow and sleep a little longer.
He felt like he had forgotten something, but the drowsy Bai Tu couldn’t remember what it was. After thinking for a moment, he gave up. He’d figure it out when he woke up.
Sensing that the little rabbit in his arms had fallen asleep again, Lang Qi slowed his steps.
Meanwhile, the cubs, who had already dressed and were waiting for their dad to call them, waited and waited—but instead of their dad, their strict father showed up. They were instantly disappointed.
Where was Dad? A whole dad just vanished?
Lang Chu looked behind Lang Qi and realized that Dad wasn’t following. Immediately, he shouted, “Where’s Dad? Where’s Dad?”
Lang Qi quickly covered the little cub’s mouth. “Quiet.”
Lang Chu started struggling, but Lang Qi had much more experience dealing with little ones than they had in escaping from adults. With just one hand, he held Lang Chu firmly in place.
Unable to break free, Lang Chu immediately called his brothers for backup.
Lang Ying was the first to rush over and grabbed onto their father’s hand. Just as the two brothers were about to exert force together, Langyao suddenly spoke. “Stop.”
Lang Ying and Lang Chu froze and stared at Langyao in disbelief. Whose side was he on?
Baiye pointed at their father’s clothes. “Dad is in there.”
In an instant, the brothers who had been wrestling with Lang Qi stopped and instead grabbed onto his clothes.
“Where’s Dad?”
“Dad, are you in there?”
“I wanna see!”
Lang Qi had had enough. “Shut up!”
“Oh.”
For once, Lang Chu was unexpectedly obedient. Since he was told to be quiet, he stayed quiet. But his eyes remained fixed on Lang Qi’s clothes, making it clear he wanted to see their dad.
Lang Qi pulled out the little rabbit from his arms, showing him off in front of the cubs for just a second—then swiftly tucked him back in.
The cubs, who had just reached out their hands: “???”
Lang Chu protested loudly, “Give me back Dad!”
“Hurry up!”
Lang Qi glanced at them and flatly refused, “No.”
He was keeping him.
Lang Chu immediately started climbing up Lang Qi’s clothes, attempting to steal his dad back himself.
But Lang Qi wasn’t about to let him succeed. He lifted the little cub off and, still holding the small rabbit, turned toward the door. “I’m going to cook. You guys do your homework.”
“We already finished it ages ago!” Lang Chu protested. He just wanted to hold his dad. His dad’s beast form was even smaller than theirs—he could fit right into a pocket!
Langyao watched their father’s delighted expression, then looked at Lang Chu. He said nothing.
Since Bai Tu was resting, Lang Qi didn’t make much noise and only prepared some simple dishes.
The cubs were usually picky about their food, but today was an exception. Even Lang Chu, who talked the most, didn’t complain at all. With Bai Tu absent, Lang Qi hadn’t even distributed the food yet, but the cubs had already served themselves.
Lang Qi looked at the unusually well-behaved cubs and instinctively tightened his hold around the little rabbit in his arms. Seeing his reaction, the cubs exchanged glances.
Lowering his gaze, Lang Qi quickly finished his meal and instructed, “Wash your own dishes.”
“Okay.”
“Got it!”
“Mm.”
“Huh?”
“Yes, Father.”
Back in the bedroom, seeing that the little rabbit showed no signs of waking up, Lang Qi securely closed the doors and windows, took a quick shower, changed clothes, and shifted into his beast form before once again tucking the little rabbit into his fur.
Now, everything felt right.
Watching the little rabbit sleep soundly against him, the large black wolf was finally content. Just like during the day, he closed his eyes and pretended to nap.
A rustling sound came from the cubs’ room.
“Where are my shoes? Where did they go?”
“Hurry up, get dressed! Quickly!”
“I buttoned my shirt wrong!”
…
After a chaotic scuffle, several cubs quietly appeared at the doorway.
First, they anxiously scanned their surroundings before cautiously creeping toward the bedroom.
When they were younger, they had all lived in this room together. Only after growing up did they move out. Their familiarity with the room was second only to Lang Qi’s, so even in the darkness, they could find their way without trouble. Besides, night didn’t mean they couldn’t see—it just wasn’t as clear as daytime.
Carefully avoiding anything that could make noise, the cubs made their way to the window outside the bedroom, reaching out to push it open.
This window faced the courtyard directly and was about the same height as Lang Sui. When they were younger, they used to stand on the windowsill inside, watching the snow or rain outside.
One time, Lang Chu had gotten so excited upon seeing Bai Tu return that he slammed into the lowest pane of glass, shattering it. The window had since been replaced with a new one, slightly different from the original—it could now be opened from the outside.
Lang Ying crouched on the ground, supporting his older brother on his shoulders, while three other cubs steadied them from below.
Lang Sui fiddled with the window for a while.
“Click—”
A very faint sound signaled their success in unlocking the window.
Having accomplished one of the most difficult tasks, the cubs silently cheered before shifting into their beast forms one by one, leaving Lang Ying in human form to help them climb in.
After all the cubs were safely inside on the windowsill, Lang Ying remained outside, listening nervously. Once his brothers successfully retrieved their dad, he would be waiting to catch him.
The cubs crouched on the windowsill, and Lang Sui was the first to jump down.
Being a few years older, he was more agile than the younger cubs. Even jumping from a windowsill as high as himself didn’t faze him—thanks to years of “training.”
After landing smoothly, Lang Sui shifted into human form and reached up to help the three younger ones down.
Once inside, the cubs transformed back into their human forms and quietly crept toward the bed.
Knowing their father was also asleep in the room, they moved with extreme caution, trying their best to make no sound.
Just as they reached the bedside, the large black wolf on the bed suddenly opened his eyes.
Lang Sui, who had been closest to the head of the bed: “!!!”
They had been caught!
Langyao, right beside him, sensed that something was off. He looked toward the bed, let out a slow sigh, and accepted reality.
They wouldn’t be able to steal Dad today.
Baiye had already spotted Bai Tu, but there was now a much bigger problem—how were they supposed to take Dad from their wide-awake father?
Lang Chu, who was sneaking up from the foot of the bed, had no idea what was happening on the other side and was still urgently whispering. “Did you find Dad? Did you find him?”
Lang Qi: “Found him.”
“If you found him, then hurry up and—”
Before Lang Chu could finish his sentence, his mouth was covered. In the next instant, he realized something.
Wait.
The one who answered… was their father, who was supposed to be asleep!
Lang Chu froze.
How could this happen?!
Lang Qi calmly lit the oil lamp in the room.
In an instant, the room became much brighter than before.
Lang Ying was slightly taller than Lang Sui, but the difference wasn’t enough for him to see what was happening inside. He could only see the light shining through the window.
Seeing that the others had entered the room and even lit a lamp, Lang Ying broke into a cold sweat and whispered, “Why did you turn on the light? What if you get caught?!”
Hearing no response from inside, he thought his voice was too soft, so he raised it slightly and called again, “Bro, hurry up and turn off the light!”
The moment he finished speaking, a window was fully pushed open, and a hand reached out, grabbing him and pulling him inside.
Lang Ying: “???”
What just happened?
Why was he being dragged in too?!
Once inside, Lang Ying took a good look around and was just as shocked as Lang Chu.
One giant question filled his mind—Why was their father awake?!
Lang Qi stared at his little cubs, who had come together in an attempt to steal his mate. Without mercy, he flicked each of them on the forehead. “Will you still dare to do this in the future?”
“No—”
Lang Sui hadn’t even finished his response before Lang Chu’s loud voice drowned him out.
“Yes! I’ll be back tomorrow!”
Lang Sui, who had been answering seriously, turned to look at his reckless little brother.
Lang Ying was even more shocked. Someone actually dared to talk back after getting hit?!
Lang Qi: “I’ll replace the window tomorrow.”
Right now, this was the only window that could be opened from the outside. The others could only be opened from inside the room. Once this window was replaced, even ten Lang Chus wouldn’t be able to sneak in.
Lang Chu put his hands on his hips. Hmph! He had other ways! Ways his father didn’t know about!
Lang Qi saw through his son’s scheming thoughts but didn’t expose him right away. It didn’t matter when they tried to sneak in—there was no way they’d be able to steal the little rabbit away.
Selfishly, Lang Qi tucked the little rabbit into his arms, refusing to let the cubs see him. He waved them off in annoyance. “Out. Now.”
Lang Chu huffed. “I’ll come back tomorrow! You won’t even noti—”
Langyao reacted quickly, covering his younger brother’s mouth. Who the hell announces the exact time before a sneak attack?!
But Lang Chu wasn’t worried at all. If tomorrow didn’t work, he’d come the day after. If that failed, he’d try the day after that. No matter what, he was going to steal Dad away!
One by one, the cubs left the room.
Now, only Lang Qi and the little rabbit remained. Carefully, Lang Qi finally took the little rabbit out of his arms.
Fast asleep, the little rabbit remained undisturbed by the commotion. He simply shifted slightly, rubbing against the nearby blanket.
Wait…
Why wasn’t the blanket as fluffy as before?
Half-asleep, Bai Tu thought to himself—When he woke up, he was going to buy a whole bunch of fluffy blankets and switch them out every day. Fluffy was the best!
Lang Qi had no idea what was going on in the little rabbit’s mind. He lay down and adjusted his position, making sure Bai Tu was as comfortable as possible.
The fluffy warmth returned, and Bai Tu slept even more soundly. But for some reason, in his dreams, he felt like someone was watching him.
Lang Qi didn’t close his eyes for the rest of the night. He kept watch until morning when Bai Tu finally woke up.
Bai Tu had slept from the afternoon all the way through the night. All his exhaustion from the past few days was gone. Though still a little groggy, he felt much better than when he had woken up yesterday afternoon.
At least this time, he understood why the outside looked different—it was because he had shifted into his beast form. He also realized he hadn’t been sleeping on a blanket but on Lang Qi.
Pushing himself out from under Lang Qi’s paws, Bai Tu jumped onto the bed and shifted back into human form, hurriedly pulling on some clothes.
“Why didn’t you wake me up last night?” He glanced outside. Given the time, the cubs should already be awake by now.
“You needed more rest.” Lang Qi replied, helping Bai Tu straighten his clothes. “I have something to take care of today. Stay home.”
“Okay. What is it? Is it serious?”
Bai Tu rubbed his temples. He had been asleep almost nonstop since yesterday afternoon, only waking up briefly. While he slept, he had no sense of the outside world.
He hadn’t heard anything or noticed anyone coming in.
If Lang Qi was in such a hurry, that meant something must have happened last night.
Bai Tu grew a little worried.
“It’s nothing, just a broken window at home. I’m fixing it.”
“Huh?” Bai Tu hadn’t expected this answer at all. But… when did the window break? Why didn’t he know about it?
Lang Qi didn’t explain further. After finishing breakfast, he immediately went to the carpentry team to get some tools.
The night before, he had said he would replace the window, but in reality, he didn’t. After all, Bai Tu was very familiar with everything in the house—if a window was replaced, he would definitely notice and ask why the old one had broken.
So in the end, Lang Qi didn’t change the window. Instead, he added a latch on the outside, similar to a door lock. Once secured, the window couldn’t be opened from the outside, but it could still be opened from inside as usual—just with an extra step.
While Lang Qi was installing it, Bai Tu walked over and took a look. “It’s not broken.”
Lang Qi, completely serious, lied with a straight face. “The wind blew it open last night. It was really cold.”
Bai Tu thought for a moment. He vaguely remembered feeling a cold breeze while sleeping last night, but he had fallen back asleep when the blankets turned into a soft, fluffy pile.
Now that he was fully awake, he realized—it hadn’t been a blanket. It was Lang Qi himself.
He had to admit, sleeping on Lang Qi was much more comfortable.
That night, as soon as Lang Qi finished “fixing” the window, the cubs once again snuck out and quietly approached the bedroom. Just like before, they planned to push the window open.
But this time—no matter which angle they pushed from, no matter how much strength they used—the window wouldn’t budge.
Inside the room, Bai Tu hadn’t fallen asleep yet since he had slept too much the previous day. Still in his human form, he vaguely heard two soft knocks on the window.
He asked quietly, “What’s going on outside?”
A knocking sound in the middle of the night? That was kind of creepy.
“The wind.” Lang Qi answered casually, pulling the blanket up and tucking Bai Tu in completely.
Bai Tu didn’t resist his care. During the rainy season, the temperature difference between day and night was drastic—completely different from the rest of summer. Even if it rained during the day, the temperature was still fine, but at night, it dropped so low that it felt like winter was coming.
By now, Bai Tu had figured something out—he often shifted into his beast form while sleeping.
It was a little familiar. The same thing had happened when he was pregnant with his other three cubs.
Since it was beyond his control, Bai Tu simply accepted it. If he shifted, he shifted. It didn’t matter—Lang Qi was right beside him, protecting him. No matter how small his own beast form was, he didn’t have to worry about safety.
Outside, the window rattled twice but soon fell silent.
Hearing nothing more, Bai Tu closed his eyes and began drifting off to sleep.
Lang Qi, however, lowered his gaze to his drowsy mate, then let his eyes linger on the bedroom door for a moment.
He had forgotten something.
There was another way into the bedroom.
When the cubs were four years old, they had gone through a phase where they preferred moving around in their beast forms—sometimes staying shifted for an entire day.
To make things easier for them, Bai Tu had installed a small pet-sized door in the main bedroom door—just big enough for a cub to squeeze through.
As the cubs grew older and moved to their own rooms, the little door had been abandoned. Even Bai Tu probably didn’t remember it was there anymore.
Lang Qi? He had completely forgotten about it.
Now, hearing faint movements outside, Lang Qi lightly patted Bai Tu. Once he was sure Bai Tu had fully fallen asleep, he quietly got out of bed, walked to the bedroom door—and suddenly yanked it open.
A pile of cubs, pressed against the door, tumbled inside in a heap.
Lang Qi: “…”
Expressionless, he picked them up one by one, grabbed a wet towel, and wiped them all down before dumping them onto a small bed nearby.
“Sleep here!”
The cubs instantly perked up.
They couldn’t steal Dad away… but they could still see his beast form up close!
Most cubs had absolute trust in their family members. In their human forms, they liked to talk and interact with them. But in their beast forms, they loved it even more—except communication wasn’t done with words. It was all through body language.
Cubs of the same age could easily understand each other. Even cubs of different ages, while not as in tune, could still pick up on the general meaning.
The cubs loved shifting into their beast forms. It was already fun when their siblings were around, but having their parents nearby made it even better. The ultimate joy? Their parents shifting into their beast forms as well.
However, Bai Tu was a sub-beast, and his beast form was smaller than the wolf cubs’. Even Bai Ye, another sub-beast, had a beast form larger than his.
He wasn’t even as big as his own cubs.
Since his beast form was inconvenient, Bai Tu usually remained in human form. That’s why the cubs were so excited—they desperately wanted to sneak him into their room.
Lang Qi, on the other hand, wasn’t keen on sharing a room with the cubs. As they grew older, a natural sense of distance developed between adult beastmen and their offspring. Even if they had a close relationship, they wouldn’t live together.
But Lang Qi also knew that if the cubs kept sneaking around every night, they would wake Bai Tu sooner or later. Instead of letting that happen, it was better to let them sleep nearby for a night.
Before dawn, Lang Qi woke the cubs up and sent them back to their rooms to rest.
As they left the bedroom, they kept turning back reluctantly.
“Father, can I hug Dad?” Lang Chu stared longingly at the little bunny on the bed, wanting to snatch him away.
“No.”
“Then… can I sleep here a little longer?”
“No.”
“Can I at least stay for a while?”
“No.”
Finally, Lang Qi managed to herd them out of the bedroom into the living room. He urged them to shift into their beast forms and, without hesitation, stuffed them into a bamboo basket before carrying them back to their rooms.
Then, he brought them their clothes. Once they shifted back into human form and got dressed, they transformed into a group of neat and adorable children once again.
When Bai Tu woke up, all he saw were human-shaped cubs. He had no idea what had happened the night before.
Still, he often heard strange noises at night, which left him a little puzzled.
“Do we have mice in the house?” he asked casually during breakfast. “Should we bring a cat beast cub to stay for a few days?”
With the increasing food supply in the tribe, problems had begun to arise.
For example—rats.
They had been rare before, but once food storage increased, they started appearing everywhere.
Not just in their tribe—neighboring tribes and storage hubs had also noticed rat infestations.
Everyone hated these food thieves, but beastmen were too large in their beast forms and too slow in their human forms. By the time they spotted a rat, it was already gone.
Rats could hide anywhere—sewers, rooftops, walls… too many escape routes. Some warehouses stored grains in the back, only to discover later that rats had multiplied to shocking numbers.
Bai Tu immediately thought of the cat tribe.
His plan was simple: Assign two cat beastmen to each warehouse.
Whenever a warehouse was opened, they would hunt the rats. After that, they wouldn’t even need to go inside—just meowing outside every few days was enough to keep the rats away.
Sure enough, once a warehouse had been visited by the cat tribe, rats never returned.
The method quickly spread—not just to warehouses but also to storage hubs. Tribes that worked with these hubs started borrowing cat beastmen as well.
But rats multiplied like crazy. The cat tribe soon became overwhelmed, constantly moving between the Beast Tribe, transit hubs, and other tribes.
Even after clearing out the warehouses, rats began appearing in people’s homes.
By then, most cat beastmen had been dispatched elsewhere, and the few that remained were focused on warehouse patrols. They had no time to go house-to-house catching rats.
Beastmen, frustrated and helpless, once again turned to Bai Tu for a solution.
His response? Lend out the cat beast cubs.
The cubs might not be as skilled as adults, but they had one advantage—their natural aura as predators.
Even just meowing in a house could scare the rats away.
The plan worked. Soon, more and more beastmen started borrowing cat beast cubs.
Now, these tiny cubs—smaller than the rats they were scaring off—had higher merit points than most other cubs.
Bai Tu thought about the noises he had been hearing at night. They had a lot of food stored at home.
Even though he had never seen a rat before, it was better to be safe than sorry.
“Maybe we should bring a cat beast cub over just in case.”
At his words, the cubs suddenly froze mid-bite.
“Dad, do I really look like a mouse?” Lang Chu poked his fingers together, looking very conflicted. “Isn’t there anything cuter than a mouse? Aren’t we your favorite cubs? And yet, you want to hold the cat clan’s cubs? Even take care of them for a few days!”
Bai Tu recalled the noises he had heard at night. “Not too sure, but what else could it be besides a mouse?” After speaking, he looked at Lang Qi. “Did you hear anything?”
As far as he knew, Lang Qi had much better hearing than he did. If even he could hear something, Lang Qi definitely should have too. Lang Qi glanced at the little cubs across the table. “I didn’t hear any mice gnawing on things. The warehouse is very clean. No need to take in the cat clan’s cubs.”
Bai Tu nodded. If there were no mice in the warehouse, it should be safe. After all, mice were creatures that stole food. If there were any in the house, there would definitely be signs in the kitchen and warehouse.
Since there were no mice, there was no need to take in the cat clan’s cubs. After all, the wolf clan was of the canine family, and they didn’t get along too well with felines. Adult beastmen wouldn’t easily get into conflicts, but things were different when it came to cubs being put together. Every time Bai Tu brought home a cat clan cub, the little ones at home would howl for a while.
But since it happened during the day, by the time the cubs came over at night, they were much quieter—afraid that making too much noise would get them mistaken for little mice by their dad.
In his beast form, Lang Chu hopped around on the ground. How did he look like a mouse? How?! He was way cuter than a mouse, okay!
That night, Bai Tu drank too much water and woke up in the middle of the night needing to go to the bathroom. In a daze, he transformed into his human form and immediately saw a gray, unknown creature bouncing in the middle of the bedroom. He was so startled that he called out to Lang Qi. “Qi! I think there really is—”
Bai Tu often turned over in his sleep, so Lang Qi hadn’t paid much attention earlier. But when Bai Tu transformed, he realized he was about to get out of bed. It was already too late to tell Lang Chu to quiet down.
What Lang Qi hadn’t expected was that Bai Tu would actually be scared.
Lang Qi quickly got out of bed and lit the lamp. As soon as the flame flickered to life, the little cub crouching in the middle of the room became clear. Seeing that it was Lang Chu in his beast form and not a mouse, Bai Tu let out a sigh of relief.
“It’s the middle of the night. Why are you in your beast form?” Just as Bai Tu finished asking, he noticed the small bed beside him—there were several more cubs, all in their beast forms!
For a moment, Bai Tu forgot everything else. His eyes were only on the neatly arranged little cubs. He immediately pounced over. “When did you all come? Come, come, let Daddy hug you.”
Lang Qi: “…”
No matter how much he tried to prevent it, Bai Tu still found out.
Lang Qi knew how much Bai Tu adored beast-form cubs. Letting the cubs sneak in at night and leave in the morning was meant to keep Bai Tu from noticing. But plans never kept up with reality—he had still been found out.
Lang Qi glanced at the bed behind him and sighed inwardly.
Tonight, the cubs were sleeping on the small bed. Tomorrow, they might be sleeping in the big bed.
After hugging all the cubs on the small bed, Bai Tu didn’t forget about Lang Chu on the floor. But since this little one had been rolling around—not just once—Bai Tu grabbed a clean towel, soaked it in warm water, and picked up Lang Chu to wipe him down. Once cleaned up, he was a fresh and tidy little cub again. Bai Tu cuddled him and rubbed his fur. “When did you start coming in? This isn’t your first night, is it?”
Lang Chu lay there lifelessly as Bai Tu rubbed and wiped him down. He felt utterly defeated—boohoo, his dad really thought he was a little mouse…
“What’s wrong?” Noticing that the cub in his arms seemed unhappy, Bai Tu asked in confusion. “Are you feeling unwell? Or do you not want Daddy to hold you?”
Lang Chu, who had been feeling down, immediately clung to Bai Tu’s arm upon hearing this.
Of course, he wanted to be held!
Only then did Bai Tu relax. He rubbed the little cub again and gave each one a kiss before placing them back onto the small bed. But five cubs on one small bed was a bit cramped. Bai Tu hesitated. “Maybe we should—”
“No.” Lang Qi immediately rejected the idea. He refused to be squeezed into just one-sixth of the space.
Bai Tu: “…”
Considering his partner’s feelings, Bai Tu didn’t insist on moving the cubs to the big bed. Instead, he widened their small bed a bit, so they wouldn’t be so cramped.
Being able to sleep in the bedroom and see their dad from time to time already made the cubs very happy. Even better, now that their dad knew, they no longer had to wait for him to fall asleep before sneaking in every night.
Bai Tu’s bedtime routine now included playing with the cubs for a while before going to sleep.
Even though it turned out to be a misunderstanding, Bai Tu had been startled by Lang Chu earlier that night. He even had a dream about it.
In the dream, he was back on that vast grassland again. But this time, there were no cubs. The three little wolf cubs were all missing.
That was unusual. Every time he dreamed of that grassland, the cubs were always there. Even when he dreamed about the past, it was the same.
Just as Bai Tu was wondering about it, he heard two faint cries.
Bai Tu had been around many cubs, so even though the voices were soft, he still heard them. But this time, he felt a bit wary—he didn’t want to be startled again.
However, in the end, his concern for the cubs won out. Bai Tu followed the sound and saw a little gray wolf cub curiously staring at two tiny rabbit cubs in front of him.
The rabbit cubs were very small, barely half the size of his palm. Huddled together, the two of them were still smaller than the little gray wolf cub, which, to an adult, was already tiny.
The rabbit cubs seemed to be facing extreme danger. The black one hid behind the white one, while the white one, though also scared, bravely puffed itself up and let out little squeaks, trying to scare off the gray wolf cub.
The little gray wolf cub only grew more curious. It reached out a paw, trying to touch the two baby rabbits, which looked just like his dad in beast form.
Bai Tu quickly stopped his son. “Lang Chu!”
Lang Chu was shocked—his voice sounded like Dad’s!
Excited, Lang Chu pounced forward, only to be picked up mid-air.
Bai Tu let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, he had stopped him in time before he touched the two baby rabbits.
No wonder beastmen and avian species only ever gave birth to one type per litter.
Keeping different species together was just too dangerous.
