Chapter 194
The education system in the Hundred Beasts Tribe was divided into three stages.
The first stage was kindergarten, which enrolled cubs between three and six years old. However, since most cubs only transformed into their human forms around the age of three, Bai Tu kept the curriculum simple—as long as they could recognize numbers, write their own names, and find the bathroom, they passed.
The second stage was primary school, for cubs aged six to ten. They learned basic literacy, how to distinguish authentic tribal emblems, and other fundamental knowledge.
The third stage was more specialized. Unlike the previous phases, it was not a one-size-fits-all education. Instead, students chose different fields of study—those interested in medicine studied with doctors, those wanting to farm joined the plantation, and those interested in construction were assigned to specialized classes.
When the three youngest cubs in Bai Tu’s family entered kindergarten, it meant one thing—Lang Sui and Lang Ying had graduated.
Back when Lang Sui and Lang Ying first started school, Bai Tu had struggled to let go. But when it was the triplets’ turn, he actually felt relieved.
However, Bai Tu soon realized that some things couldn’t be avoided, even after sending the cubs to kindergarten.
He had named the triplets: Lang Yao, Lang Chu, and Bai Ye.
Among them, Lang Chu (Second Cub) was far more talkative than his older brother, Lang Yao. From the moment he transformed into human form, his mouth had never stopped running. And as his vocabulary grew, so did the number of people he managed to offend.
The only person spared from his verbal assaults was Bai Tu.
However, Bai Tu not being a victim didn’t mean he was off the hook—because he had to clean up Lang Chu’s messes.
For example, on the fourth birthday of Ying Xiao Yi through Ying Xiao Wu (Ying Mian’s five kids), Bai Tu had invited Ying Mian, Xiong Liao, and the five eaglets over for a celebration.
In the Beast God Continent, birthdays weren’t a traditional concept. Transforming into human form and reaching adulthood were far more significant milestones—because they symbolized growing stronger.
Once a cub transformed, it meant they were less likely to die young. And upon reaching adulthood, they were ready to find a mate.
But Bai Tu liked celebrating birthdays. To him, it was a way to commemorate another year of growth. On their birthday, cubs could eat special foods that weren’t available on ordinary days.
While adult beastmen didn’t think much of it, the cubs loved birthdays—especially when Bai Tu was there to celebrate with them.
Ying Xiao Wu, in particular, had been talking about finding “Daddy Bai Tu” for days.
Most cubs called Bai Tu “Uncle”, but Ying Xiao Wu was different. He had hatched right beside Bai Tu, so his attachment to Bai Tu was unique.
At first, he followed the three wolf cubs, calling Bai Tu “Daddy” just like they did. Later, to distinguish between Bai Tu and Ying Mian, he added two extra words when addressing Bai Tu.
Meanwhile, Lang Chu had been in human form for two years already. His speech and walking were far more advanced than the eaglets. Because he talked so much, his communication skills were the best among the cubs.
And during dinner, Lang Chu demonstrated his exceptional talent—by questioning his own father’s abilities.
“Why are there five little eagles… but only three of us?”
Bai Tu and Lang Qi had never hidden the cubs’ origins from them.
As a result, Lang Sui, Lang Ying, and the triplets all knew that they weren’t born from the same litter—and that they didn’t even have the same parents.
No one took Lang Chu’s question seriously. Bai Tu set down his chopsticks, about to explain that the number of siblings varied naturally—some families in the tribe even had only one child.
But before he could speak, Lang Chu kept going.
“Daddy lets Xiao Wu call him ‘Daddy’… is it because we’re too few?”
“Uncle Ze said the stronger someone is, the more cubs they have. If someone has too few cubs, it means… they’re weak. Father, are you weak?”
Bai Ye was sitting next to Bai Tu, and Lang Yao was beside Bai Ye.
As soon as they heard Lang Chu’s second sentence, they realized something was wrong—but by the time they reached out to cover his mouth, it was too late.
That night, the dinner party ended with Xiong Liao feeling smug, only to get beaten up by Lang Qi afterward.
Meanwhile, the five little wolf cubs were sentenced to a week of boarding school.
When it was time to pick them up, Bai Tu arrived half an hour early.
The cubs had been counting down the days, and the moment they saw their father at the school gate, they couldn’t hold back any longer.
They pressed their faces against the classroom window, staring longingly at Bai Tu.
Bai Tu had sharp eyesight, so even from a short distance away, he could clearly see their eager little faces pressed against the glass.
In that moment, all his exhaustion and frustration disappeared.
After all, the cubs weren’t really at fault—were they?
It’s all Lang Qi’s fault.
As soon as Bai Tu arrived, Bai Chi, who was on patrol, waved at him and went into the classroom to call out the three youngest cubs. He also took the opportunity to bring along Lang Sui and Lang Ying, who were already in middle school, handing over all five cubs to Bai Tu.
“Daddy!”
“Daddy!”
“Daddy, Daddy!”
Their voices rang out one after another.
Bai Tu had originally planned to leave them at school until the scheduled time, but seeing how happy they were, he couldn’t bear to send them back.
After thanking Bai Chi, he started heading home with the cubs crowding around him.
On the way, Bai Tu spoke to Lang Chu in a serious tone, “You are not allowed to speak carelessly. No—just don’t speak at all!”
This cub has no filter—they had no idea what could or couldn’t be said. And in the end, it was he who suffered the consequences.
“Why can’t I talk?”
“Daddy, why am I not allowed to talk?”
“Daddy, can I sleep at home tonight?”
“Daddy, what’s for dinner?”
“Daddy…”
“Daddy……”
Bai Tu: “……”
He immediately regretted picking them up. He was seriously considering sending them back to school.
Meanwhile, Bai Chi—who had suffered a week of endless chaos—noticed Bai Tu hesitating and felt a surge of panic. He pointed at the gate and urgently shouted to the gatekeeper, “Close the gate! Quick! CLOSE IT!!!”
Bai Tu: “……”
Completely unaware of the chaos he caused, Lang Chu kept asking questions.
“Daddy, did you miss me?”
“Daddy, I missed you.”
“Daddy, can we have braised pork for dinner?”
Bai Tu hadn’t even responded yet, but hearing “I missed you” made his heart instantly melt.
Then, hearing the dinner request, he sighed helplessly, “Daddy’s not eating braised pork. We’re having pork belly tonight.”
“Oh.” The little wolf cub was completely unfazed—pork belly was just as good.
Bai Tu finally breathed a sigh of relief. At least he had stopped talking—
“Daddy, why was Father so angry?”
“Daddy, will Father still be mad?”
Hearing these words, Bai Tu felt a sharp pain in his lower back.
For the sake of his own survival, Bai Tu sternly warned Lang Chu, “Once we’re home, you absolutely, absolutely cannot bring this up! Otherwise, you’ll have to stay at school again next week!”
Cubs from distant tribes usually studied at nearby schools within their own territories. But in Bai Tu’s settlement, aside from their own tribal cubs, the only others attending school were from the Black Hawk Tribe. The dormitory area, which had been prepared long ago, was only occupied by the little eaglets.
To make things easier for adult beastmen, the school offered dormitory options even for cub families who lived relatively close.
If a beastman had to work or was too busy to care for their cubs, they could temporarily leave them in the dorms—whether for a few days or longer.
Normally, Bai Tu and Lang Qi only sent their cubs to stay overnight for a day or two when they were truly overwhelmed with work.
This was the first time the cubs had stayed for an entire week.
Hearing Bai Tu’s warning, Lang Chu immediately covered his mouth.
He definitely didn’t want to stay another week—not only would he miss Daddy, but he’d also get beaten up by his brothers!
Seeing that Lang Chu had finally quieted down, Bai Tu could finally relax. However, his threat of making the cubs stay another week was just talk—if they really had to stay another week, not just the cubs, but even he wouldn’t be able to take it.
To ensure that the cubs could stay home, Bai Tu seriously instructed Lang Chu again. Then, he turned to the other cubs and said, “Next time you hear Lang Chu talking, make sure to cover his mouth!”
Since he couldn’t always be around to stop Lang Chu at the right moment, the other cubs, who were always playing together, would be his best defense—they could shut him up immediately.
“Got it!” Lang Yao accepted this important mission. Bai Ye obediently nodded, clutching Bai Tu’s hand, looking incredibly well-behaved.
Lang Sui and Lang Ying were already older, so they no longer clung to Bai Tu like before. Hearing his words, Lang Ying coolly nodded, “Understood, boss!”
“Where did you learn that?” Bai Tu had a strong feeling that this way of responding was very familiar—and from experience, when something felt familiar, it usually wasn’t a good thing.
“Didn’t learn it from anywhere!” Lang Ying instantly denied it. Then, before Bai Tu could question him further, he sped off toward home with his backpack, yelling, “I’m starving! Time to eat!”
Bai Tu’s heart skipped a beat—damn, that sounded even more familiar!
“Daddy, I’m going to eat too.” Lang Sui followed after his brother.
“Go, go.” Bai Tu waved them off, suddenly feeling exhausted—he was absolutely sure there was some kind of stubborn genetic trait running through the wolf tribe!
“Daddy, Daddy! I’m hungry too!” Lang Chu tugged at Bai Tu, urging him to hurry up.
He couldn’t drag Daddy any faster, and after walking for so long and talking so much, he was starving. At this point, whether it was pork belly or braised pork didn’t matter—he just wanted to eat as soon as possible.
Bai Tu sighed and resigned himself to leading the cubs home.
After a week of forced school dormitory life, Lang Chu had finally learned his lesson—he was much quieter at the dinner table this time. At the very least, he wasn’t constantly shouting “Daddy, Daddy”.
But the sudden silence felt a bit strange to Bai Tu. He dished out the food in front of the cubs, making sure each one had a portion.
The table was built to fit adult-sized beastmen, so while it was just right for him and Lang Qi, the cubs had to sit on high stools to reach.
Even then, their arms were too short—even the older cubs couldn’t reach the food in the middle. So, Bai Tu always prepared individual portions for them in advance—just enough for each cub to finish a meal.
However, after just a few days, their appetites had already grown again. Bai Tu was still eating, but the cubs had already finished their portions.
One look, and Bai Tu immediately knew—they weren’t full yet. Without hesitation, he divided up the remaining food on the table and distributed it evenly among the cubs.
After feeding the cubs, Bai Tu handed the last bit of food to Lang Qi. Lang Qi’s appetite was flexible—if there was less food, he ate less; if there was more, he ate more.
But today, there was barely anything left for him. Bai Tu made a mental note to cook some extra food later—they didn’t have to sleep early tonight anyway.
Just as everything seemed peaceful, Lang Chu suddenly spoke up—
“Daddy, Uncle Xiong Liao said they have a new cub at home. When will we have another cub?”
Bai Tu: “!!!”
What food? What staying up late? All those thoughts instantly disappeared—he was completely stunned.
His first reaction was to look at Lang Qi—thankfully, Lang Qi’s expression didn’t change at all.
Bai Tu secretly sighed in relief.
Even a starving wolf would be full after a week—not to mention Lang Qi was already an adult and a father of five. He had at least some self-control, right?
Seeing that Lang Qi didn’t react, Bai Tu felt much more at ease.
He quickly pointed at the food in front of Lang Chu and said, “Hurry up and eat! If you don’t finish soon, Uncle Lang Ze will come and eat it all—you won’t have a single bite left!”
The cubs had big appetites, but all of them combined still couldn’t match Lang Ze.
Since Lang Ze was always outside, they didn’t eat together often, but every time they did, the cubs were shocked. The food that took them so long to finish—Lang Ze could devour in one bite.
Last time, Lang Chu had talked too much while eating, and before he realized it, all his food was gone—Lang Ze had eaten it all!
Since then, whenever Lang Ze was around, Lang Chu was always extra quiet.
Whether anyone else believed Bai Tu’s warning or not, Lang Chu certainly did—he immediately buried his head in his food.
Successfully distracting Lang Chu from saying anything more, Bai Tu began clearing the table.
He handed the empty bowls and plates to Lang Qi and said, “Go wash these. I’ll clean up after the cubs.”
Lang Qi glanced at him, then nodded.
“Alright.”
Bai Tu didn’t notice anything unusual at first. Since he hadn’t seen the cubs for more than a week, he wanted to spend more time with them this time and even planned to ask what snacks they wanted.
At school, the cubs’ meals varied daily—three standard meals a day, plus two snack breaks. As a result, they didn’t really have any cravings. Bai Tu was indulgent when it came to the cubs—if he ever came across something delicious, he would prepare it in advance before the cubs even had to ask.
But for the cubs, the happiest thing wasn’t that Daddy was making yummy food—it was that Daddy was spending time with them.
Since the weather had been hot lately, Bai Tu thought for a moment and decided to make sour plum soup for the cubs.
The herbal pharmacy had already pre-mixed the ingredients, so all Bai Tu had to do was wash them, put them in a pot to boil, and add some sugar in the middle—simple enough.
Sour plum soup was technically a medicinal drink, but unlike bitter herbal medicine, it had a sweet and tangy taste, making it a delicious treat for the cubs—almost all of them loved it.
Since there were many cubs and two adults, Bai Tu used two packets and double the water to make a large batch. Once it was ready, he poured it into bowls, letting it cool slightly before serving.
Lang Qi hadn’t spoken a word the entire time.
Once the cubs finished their sour plum soup, he suddenly called over Lang Ya from next door and told him to take the cubs over to rest.
Bai Tu: “Why are they going next door?” The cubs had just come home!
“To finish their homework.” Lang Qi replied.
“What homework?” Bai Tu frowned.
Lang Qi didn’t answer. Instead, he grabbed Bai Tu’s hand, and once Lang Ya led the cubs away, he wordlessly picked up both Bai Tu and the remaining sour plum soup and carried them straight to the bedroom.
By the next morning, not a drop of sour plum soup was wasted.
Bai Tu only managed to get out of bed after grumbling a few curses.
Lang Qi, completely unfazed by the half-hearted complaints, rubbed his face against Bai Tu’s cheek and said, “Lang Chu wants a little brother.”
For obvious reasons, Lang Qi never referred to his sons as a group—he always called them by name.
“Lang Chu was just talking nonsense! What does he even know?!” Bai Tu got angrier the more he thought about it.
Last night, at the dinner table, Lang Chu had casually repeated what Xiong Liao said. Bai Tu had even specifically checked Lang Qi’s reaction at the time—since there was no visible change in his expression, Bai Tu had let it go.
Who could’ve guessed that Lang Qi would latch onto that one sentence and think about it from dinner all the way to bedtime?!
“There will be no new cubs! Not a single one!”
Bai Tu yanked open the nearest cabinet, pulled out a clean set of clothes, and threw them at Lang Qi.
“Hurry up and put them on! And get out as soon as you’re done!”
The more Bai Tu looked at him, the more annoyed he got—no matter how much time passed, he was still exactly the same as before, with only one thing on his mind.
After eating his fill, Lang Qi was exceptionally agreeable—he did whatever he was told. He put on his clothes and even reached out, intending to help Bai Tu dress.
“Get out! I can do it myself!” Bai Tu snapped, kicking him out of the room.
Only after Lang Qi’s figure disappeared through the doorway did Bai Tu carefully shift out from under the blanket, change into fresh clothes, and slowly get out of bed.
“Beast,” Bai Tu cursed inwardly.
Originally, he had planned to take a break for the next couple of days and spend quality time with the cubs. But after just one night, Lang Qi had completely thrown all his plans into chaos. The cubs were full of energy, and in his current state, there was no way he could keep up with them.
Thankfully, the entire tribe was made up of their own people, so the cubs could roam freely without needing an adult watching them every second.
After breakfast, Bai Tu spent some time with the cubs. Watching them fidget restlessly on their chairs like they had ants in their pants, he could tell they were itching to go outside. He waved a hand, “Go play for a while, but be back early for lunch.”
“Okay!” The cubs cheered and dashed out excitedly.
Of course, they would have loved to play with their father, but he had already said he wasn’t feeling well today, so they had to go out on their own.
They felt a little disappointed, but the thought of all the fun they could have outside quickly lifted their spirits.
Like usual, the cubs left their home and headed toward the other side of the street.
However, after walking a short distance, they suddenly noticed something strange.
“There’s no one at the gate.”
Lang Ying, staring at the entrance of the residential area, whispered to the others.
In an instant, all the cubs turned to look at the gate, their gazes flickering with uncertainty.
Every cub in the tribe had been strictly warned by their relatives and teachers—they were not allowed to leave the residential area on their own.
But the outside world was a great unknown, full of mystery and adventure.
All the cubs longed to explore beyond the borders.
Unfortunately, their chances to go out were extremely limited—they were only allowed to leave a few times a year. Even then, their trips were short—they would go out in the morning and have to return by the afternoon, meaning they only got half a day outside at most.
“No.”
Lang Yao, not the oldest, but definitely the most level-headed, firmly shook his head at his two older brothers and two younger brothers.
“Dad will be mad.”
The moment those words were spoken, all the cubs fell silent.
Sure, going outside was tempting, but… if they snuck out, their dad would get angry.
At home, Bai Tu rarely lost his temper, but whenever he did, it was not easy to calm him down.
The cubs exchanged glances, sighed like little adults, and muttered, “I really wanna go outside…”
Even though they knew they couldn’t, they weren’t the only ones who felt this way—all the cubs in the tribe wanted to go out.
After all, they had so much free time that they had already explored every nook and cranny of the tribe. Even the adult beastmen didn’t know the area as well as they did.
There was nothing fun left inside the residential area, but they had no chance to go outside.
It was so unfair.
“Let’s wait until Dad gets better. Then he can take us outside.”
Lang Yao, looking longingly at the world beyond the gate, patted Lang Chu reassuringly.
Lang Sui and Lang Ying were at least rational enough to hold back, but Lang Chu was already on the verge of bolting out the gate.
Lang Yao, copying the way his father grabbed their uncle by the scruff, firmly grabbed his younger brother’s collar and said, “You’re not going anywhere.”
“Alright, alright,” Lang Chu grumbled.
Truth be told, he had been planning to sneak out when his brothers weren’t paying attention. But now that he’d been caught, he could only give up.
Even so, Lang Yao didn’t let go of his grip.
Because their dad had once said, “Your little brother and your uncle are exactly the same—if no one holds them down, they’ll fly straight up to the sky.”
Lang Yao had never actually seen his younger brother or uncle fly, but he understood what his dad meant—he had to keep an eye on Lang Chu at all times.
Meanwhile, their other younger brother was calmly standing beside him, being his usual well-behaved self.
Although he was still young, Lang Yao had already realized the responsibilities that came with being an older brother.
After lingering near the gate for a while, the cubs slowly began to head back.
But they hadn’t gotten very far when they saw a beastman approaching from another direction.
The man casually walked up to them, as if he had just happened to pass by.
Glancing at the cubs, he suddenly lowered his voice and asked,
“Do you want to go outside? I can take you there.”
His tone was soft and quiet, meant only for the cubs to hear.
A few beastmen standing farther away could only see that he was talking to the cubs, but couldn’t hear what he was saying.
In the tribe, everyone knew these were Bai Tu and Lang Qi’s cubs.
Since these cubs were smarter than most, the tribe members enjoyed teasing them for fun.
So when they saw this scene, no one thought anything of it.
The cubs, curious, looked up—when they saw that the man was a complete stranger, their eyes lit up instantly.
