Chapter 93
The moment Yun Jian opened her eyes, she realized she was lying inside a square transparent container, her body wrapped in some unknown “liquid.”
The transparent container looked a bit like… a coffin.
As for the liquid inside, she was very familiar with it.
It was the kind often used in hibernation pods on returning starships. When a person lay inside, the body would be perfectly preserved, as if time had been pressed to pause. Whether it was a living person or a corpse, however they went in was exactly how they came out.
Yun Jian raised both hands and pushed open the coffin lid, and only then did she notice the little child lying unconscious against the coffin.
She paused, then carefully set the lid aside and sat up from the coffin.
She did not know how long she had been asleep, though she guessed it had not been too long. There was nothing wrong with her body, and all four limbs could move normally.
“Little one.” Yun Jian lifted her hand and lightly poked the child’s soft cheek.
What a beautiful child. She had no idea whose child this was or why he had ended up here.
What about her own baby…
Yun Jian glanced at her still-flat lower abdomen and immediately switched on her light-brain.
As she powered it on, she called out to the little child beside her a few more times, but he did not respond at all.
Something was clearly very wrong.
At that exact moment, her light-brain finished booting up, and not far away, the door was suddenly forced open in a rush.
A familiar figure charged in.
“Xiao En?” Yun Jian’s eyes lit up. She had just been about to contact her husband through her light-brain, yet he had appeared on his own.
Tang Zheng’en froze where he stood.
His eyes were filled with immense shock and utter disbelief.
He quickly rubbed his eyes and muttered, “This dream is way too real,” then turned and rammed his head straight into the wall.
Bang!
A piercing pain spread through his head, and hot crimson liquid began to run down rapidly, blurring part of his vision.
Could you really feel pain in a dream?
Yun Jian: “…?”
Had her husband become an idiot while she was asleep?
Yun Jian immediately climbed out of the coffin, scooped up the motionless little child lying beside it, and carefully carried him over to Tang Zheng’en, whose forehead was bleeding.
“Do you still remember who I am?” Yun Jian asked tentatively, testing whether her husband had truly gone stupid.
Tang Zheng’en felt dizzy and light-headed, but he still obediently answered, “W-wife.”
He remembered her, so at least he was not completely gone in the head.
Yun Jian asked again, “Where’s our baby? Is the child alright? A boy or a girl?”
Tang Zheng’en lowered his gaze to Tang Rong, unconscious in Yun Jian’s arms. His lips moved, and he replied mechanically, “Here.”
Yun Jian followed his gaze down to the little child in her arms. The child was pink-cheeked and adorable, but clearly at least four years old, absolutely not a newborn baby.
Finished. He had really gone stupid.
…
Half an hour later, all the family doctors had arrived. One was treating the wound on Tang Zheng’en’s head, while the others were separately examining the unconscious Tang Rong and the bewildered Yun Jian.
Yun Jian’s eyes stayed fixed on her four-year-old baby. She held his little hand, and like everyone else, she still had not recovered from the shock that more than four years had passed.
Yes.
She had been asleep for four years.
Four years later, her baby was already four years old.
Her husband had not gone stupid either. He had simply believed she was dead, and seeing her “come back to life” so suddenly had been too much for him to process.
Tang Zheng’en finally finished having his forehead treated and strode quickly to his wife’s side, taking her other hand in his. “A Jian.”
Yun Jian let out a quiet sound of acknowledgment. “I’m really fine. Look, even the test results are normal.”
She was a healer and also well-versed in medicine. She could read the data on the instruments, and everything looked normal.
Tang Zheng’en’s eyes turned wet again. Even though he still did not understand why his wife had come back from the dead, all he wanted now was to pull her into his arms and carefully confirm her warmth and breathing for himself.
But Yun Jian was still wearing all those monitoring devices, so he could not complete that embrace. He could only hold her hand tightly.
What worried Yun Jian most, though, was the unconscious little child beside her—her baby.
According to her husband, this was not the first time he had fallen into this sort of unconscious state. Last time it had been because he exhausted all his healing power at the recuperation base, and this time…
“This situation is similar to last time. The healing power inside his body has been completely depleted, so his body’s self-protection mechanism has kicked in. There should not be any major problem, but we still can’t let our guard down,” the doctor said.
A possibility exploded at once in everyone’s mind.
“Xiao Rong went to see you every night,” Tang Zheng’en said.
Yun Jian continued, “Could it be that Xiao Rong revived me?”
Tang Zheng’en said, “At this point… it’s very likely.”
Yun Jian pressed her lips together. “Wouldn’t that do serious harm to his body?”
Although she was overjoyed to be able to open her eyes again, if it had come at the cost of her baby’s health—or even his life—she would rather not have come back at all.
Tang Zheng’en understood her worry, because he carried the same fear in his own heart. But things had already come to this, and all they could do was keep moving forward.
Tang Zheng’en comforted her, “Our baby is very, very amazing.”
Yun Jian lowered her head and kissed the little child’s soft cheek. Then, unable to help herself, she kissed his forehead too before lifting her head again.
Nearby, the little snow leopard sat upright and watched everything.
Originally he had already shifted into his spirit-form and had been about to go train with Tang Rong’s father. Unexpectedly, Tang Rong’s father had suddenly received an alert on his light-brain about Tang Rong’s abnormal heart rate and rushed over immediately.
The little snow leopard had followed closely behind him the whole way, but it had not been taken into the room with the coffin. It had waited outside for a while, and then suddenly three people came out.
Aside from the unconscious Tang Rong and Tang Zheng’en, there was also an unfamiliar woman.
Only later did it learn that she was Xiao Rong’s mother.
Xiao Rong’s mother had come back to life.
When Xiao Rong woke up, he would definitely be so happy.
The doctor spoke again, “This time, it would be best to let him rest alone. Don’t stay too close to him. It won’t help his healing power recover.”
Tang Zheng’en suddenly came back to his senses and stood up. Their spiritual power was damaged, and staying too close to Xiao Rong would only put a greater burden on his body.
Yun Jian still wanted to remain right beside her baby, so she said to Tang Zheng’en, “Let’s stay in contact through video calls.”
They still had so, so much left unsaid.
“Alright,” Tang Zheng’en answered obediently.
Yun Jian had only just awakened herself and also needed quiet recovery. Having her stay with Xiao Rong really was the most suitable arrangement.
Tang Zheng’en turned around, casually scooped up the little snow leopard who had been silently watching from the side, and left the room.
The moment he stepped out, he immediately connected a video call with Yun Jian.
On the other end of the screen, Yun Jian was poking at the little child’s soft cheek for fun.
Tang Zheng’en’s gaze softened as he said, “Xiao Yao and Xiao Fei already got their marriage certificate and moved out. Xiao Hu and Xiao Qiu are still living here. Xiao Yuan also came back. And Dad… his health hasn’t been very good these past few years. Once Xiao Rong wakes up and your condition is stable, I’ll tell them.”
He was actually still afraid—afraid this might all turn out to be false joy. Bringing the dead back to life was simply too unbelievable. He feared that something might still go wrong.
He could bear that risk alone.
Yun Jian nodded. “Alright. Do you have any photos of them? I want to see.”
After all, four years had passed. They must have changed quite a bit.
“I do.” Tang Zheng’en immediately pulled up all the photos taken since Tang Rong had returned and sent them to his wife.
Yun Jian looked through them one by one and noticed that the little snow leopard appeared almost as frequently as Xiao Rong did. She immediately asked, “Does this snow leopard belong to Ah Zhi’s child?”
She still remembered that little snow leopard who had once bitten the little nine-tailed fox’s tail. It had been a very adorable child.
Tang Zheng’en nodded at once and brought the little snow leopard in his arms closer to the camera so she could see. Then he explained its relationship with Xiao Rong, including how the two had met and become close.
Yun Jian looked rather surprised and murmured, “They’re that close?”
Then she added jokingly, “When I meet Ah Zhi later, I’ll have to bring up the matter of a childhood engagement.”
Her memory was still stuck four years in the past. Back then she had been pregnant with Xiao Bao, and Ah Zhi had often come to visit her. The two of them had joked more than once that perhaps they could arrange a childhood match for the two children in the future.
Of course, it had only ever been a joke between adults, just a way of teasing children. Arranged marriages had long since become an outdated thing of the past.
Little snow leopard: “!”
Its tail immediately curled up.
A childhood engagement? For it and Xiao Rong?!
…
Tang Rong woke up three days later.
When he opened his eyes, he found someone sitting beside him, fingers fiddling with his hair.
Having slept for three whole days, his body did not feel particularly uncomfortable, just a little stiff from lying still too long.
Before he used that card, the system had already warned him that fainting was possible, in order to make his mother’s resurrection seem more believable.
Seeing him wake up, the system’s surprised voice rang out instantly in his mind: [Host, you’re finally awake!! Look at Mom! She’s been staying by your side this whole time!]
During all those days while the host was unconscious, it had seen everything. Mom had been especially, especially good to him. Every day she wiped his little face, kissed him, and even held him while sleeping.
With the system’s excited shouting in his head, Tang Rong drowsily opened his eyes.
His mother, who had been lying asleep in the coffin, had really come back to life. She was holding one strand of his hair, halfway through braiding it into a tiny plait, and was looking at him with delight.
She had light green eyes, just like his.
So very gentle.
“Mom?” Tang Rong said blankly as he sat up, only to realize that his head felt a little heavy.
He instinctively reached up to touch it and discovered—
His head had been braided all over in all kinds of tiny little braids.
Yun Jian gave a guilty little cough and quietly hid the small elastic band in her hand.
Her baby was just too cute, and his hair was already long enough… she had not been able to help herself.
