Chapter 78
The butler quickly picked up the little snow leopard, which had been circling the little cub and meowing nonstop, and carried it out of the bedroom.
At the same time, Yun Yuan hurried upstairs with several doctors.
As he headed downstairs, the butler explained, “Xiao Rong exhausted himself too much while healing spirit forms, and it caused some problems with his body. Until he wakes up, it’s best not to go near him. Staying by his side will only worsen the strain on his body.”
The snow leopard’s puffed-up tail gradually drooped back down. It curled obediently in the butler’s arms, its eyes brimming with worry.
It had read descriptions of healers in books before. Healing power, like spiritual power, could be overused. The books said the body would normally protect itself—once it was consumed past a certain point, it would stop overflowing, and the person would simply become extremely tired and need plenty of rest to recover.
But it still felt that Xiao Rong’s condition did not quite match what the books described.
His breathing had become so faint it was barely noticeable unless someone leaned in very close, and he gave no response to the outside world at all, as though… he had fallen into a deathlike sleep.
Tang Rong’s condition was indeed unusual.
Yun Yuan had warned the butler earlier to watch Xiao Rong’s state at all times and remove him immediately at the slightest sign of fatigue, and the butler had been paying close attention all along.
But accidents happened in an instant.
One second, the little cub had still been in decent spirits, happily petting fluffy creatures. The next second, he had suddenly collapsed, and no matter how they called to him, he would not wake up.
Fortunately, when he fainted, a few of the fluffy creatures had reacted quickly and darted beneath him to cushion his fall, so he hadn’t hit or scraped himself.
The butler had immediately summoned the recovery base’s healers and doctors. The examination results showed that he had simply overexerted himself beyond what his body could bear and needed quiet rest. Apart from that, all his other physical indicators were normal. The only mystery was why he still would not wake up.
Quite a few healers had tried using their healing power on him, but it had done almost nothing.
In his current state, he was not suited to remain in the recovery base or the hospital. There were too many people with damaged spiritual power there, and even if they were not in the same room, their presence could still continue affecting him. So the butler had brought him home first.
But home was not exactly “safe” either. The family members’ spiritual power damage would, more or less, still affect him.
So after bringing the snow leopard downstairs, the butler handed it over to Tang Hu, who was carrying a schoolbag on his back.
“We’re going to stay at your place for a few days,” Tang Hu said to the little snow leopard.
The little snow leopard: “…?”
A moment later, the little snow leopard was sitting in a hovercar heading home.
Besides it, every member of the Tang family was in the car as well. The whole group looked as though they were fleeing from disaster, all of them once again wearing anti-bite muzzles and other restraining gear, worried that if they left Xiao Rong’s side, they might lose control. Their expressions were dark, and the atmosphere inside the car was heavy and oppressive.
After learning of Tang Rong’s condition, Han Zhi and Shen Chuanqiong were also extremely worried. They generously offered to let them all move directly into the house where their son used to live, so they could keep a distance from Xiao Rong and avoid affecting him. The house had not been lived in for a while, but it had always been kept clean, and everything inside was complete and ready to use.
Only the butler and Yun Yuan were left to care for Tang Rong.
Returning to the place he had once lived in, the little snow leopard felt no nostalgia whatsoever. It climbed onto Tang Hu’s shoulder and watched the surveillance footage on the optical brain with him.
It was the bedroom camera. Several people were gathered around Xiao Rong, but he still had not woken up.
Because he had not finished lunch, the snow leopard’s stomach started rumbling before evening even came, yet it had no appetite at all. Resting its head on its tail, it stared at the surveillance footage without blinking.
An entire afternoon passed, and Xiao Rong still had not woken up. All sorts of medical equipment surrounded him, monitoring his condition in real time. The sight of it was extremely frightening.
Thankfully, the data displayed on the machines was all normal.
“Grrrr…”
When the snow leopard’s stomach rumbled for the nth time, Tang Hu brought over some snacks and held them near its mouth.
“Eat a little to fill your stomach first. Dinner will be delivered soon.”
The little snow leopard turned its head away and refused.
Last night, when its belly had been hungry, Xiao Rong had still fed it milk from a bottle with his own hands… but today…
The more the little snow leopard thought about it, the sadder it became. It quickly bit its own tail, trying hard not to let the little pearls fall.
The books said a man’s tears should not fall easily, and it rarely cried.
But now, it truly could not hold back any longer.
It was so afraid something would happen to Xiao Rong, so afraid Xiao Rong would never open his eyes again, so afraid of losing him.
Tang Hu could do nothing but place the snacks beside it.
At last, dinner was delivered—several tubes of nutritional solution, and the snow leopard’s special meal.
The little snow leopard only took two bites and then stopped.
Tang Zheng’en had never imagined that the little crown prince’s feelings for his child had already grown this deep. He let out a sigh in his heart, but there was nothing he could do.
The little crown prince was not like Xiao Rong. He was not easy to coax.
Unable to stand watching any longer, Lin Fei deliberately said, “Xiao Rong might be fine tomorrow. If you don’t eat and end up getting sick from hunger, then when Xiao Rong recovers, you’ll be the one who’s ill, and you definitely won’t be allowed near him.”
Those words had some effect.
The little snow leopard got to its feet and licked up a bit of the nutritional solution with its tongue, considering that its dinner. It had no mood for the luxurious leopard meal. The chicken drumsticks in it took too long to chew, and it couldn’t be bothered.
Tang Qiu, who had been quiet the whole time, suddenly noticed something. She came over to the snow leopard holding a few items and asked, “Can… we use… these?”
In her hands were some colored paper, a pair of scissors, and several pens.
They were things their parents had once bought for it to make crafts and pass the time. At the beginning, just like Bai Tu, it had not been very good at controlling its strength and often damaged things by accident. Doing crafts had been a way to train that control.
But it had only ever liked making crafts together with Mom and Dad. If they were not there, it had no interest, so these things had been left here.
The little snow leopard nodded its head in permission.
Tang Qiu immediately cut the colored paper into many long strips, then wrote a line of words on each one: “Xiao Rong, get well soon.” Then, with nimble fingers, she folded one into a little star.
The snow leopard’s attention was captured. Curiously, it watched her fold another star, this one containing the words: “Xiao Rong, may you be safe and blessed.”
It knew how to fold stars. Mom and Dad had done it with it before, using specially made star-folding strips. It had found it too boring, though, and after folding a few had asked them to teach it something new instead.
It had never expected words could also be written inside them.
Seeing that the snow leopard’s attention had finally shifted, Tang Qiu gently invited, “Do you… want to fold… lucky stars… for Xiao Rong… together?”
Lucky stars…
The little snow leopard suddenly stood up, ran back to what had once been its own bedroom, and returned a moment later—this time, Shen Muhan, fully dressed.
Tang Qiu immediately handed him a strip of paper and a pen.
Shen Muhan rapidly filled the strip with writing, all of it blessings for Tang Rong, then carefully folded it into a little star.
Tang Qiu smiled faintly and looked toward everyone else in the room.
She could feel that everyone in the family was trying their best to suppress their spiritual power. Without Xiao Rong’s soothing presence, and with all of them gripped by anxiety over his condition, the long-familiar loss of control over their spiritual power might return at any moment.
Lin Fei was right. Xiao Rong was already sick—they could not afford for anything to happen to the rest of them as well. They had to stay well and wait for Xiao Rong to recover.
And so, everyone joined in folding stars.
When one’s attention was anchored to a task, emotions no longer controlled the body so easily.
By the end of just one evening, an entire jar had been filled with lucky stars containing written blessings.
Warm, soft light glowed inside the house. Outside, snow lay under the moonlight. The atmosphere was still heavy, but tonight was at least a “peaceful night.”
…
Tang Rong slept for three whole days.
He did not wake once during that time, yet all of his physical indicators remained normal.
The first semester of kindergarten also quietly reached its first winter break while he was still asleep.
During those three days, Shen Muhan did not go to kindergarten either. He either watched the surveillance footage, folded stars, or ran outside to mold things from the snow.
There was a freezer in the house, and after shaping them, he would put them inside so they wouldn’t melt, planning to show them to Xiao Rong once he woke up.
Aside from that, he still spent most of his time in his little snow leopard form out of habit. A snow leopard’s face was covered in fur, making its sadness less visible.
That first snowfall in Eden lasted a full week. The day it finally stopped was the same day Tang Rong woke up.
Tang Rong himself woke groggy and confused. When he opened his eyes, he had thought he was still at the recovery base, but instead he found himself back home, lying in his own bed in his bedroom.
Beside the bed lay the butler and Yun Yuan, both sleeping lightly, along with a number of medical devices he did not recognize.
The system had nearly worried itself to death. [Host, are you okay?!]
Since the host had been asleep the entire time, even the system sharing his consciousness had been unable to communicate with him, so naturally it had been very anxious about his physical condition.
The system had a few guesses about the cause of this long sleep, but for now it still could not be completely certain. It would need later verification.
The butler and Yun Yuan also noticed his waking immediately. They hurried over, asking about his condition, and at once called in some doctors.
Tang Rong simply shook his head blankly, indicating that he felt no discomfort at all. It felt as if he had merely slept a long sleep—in fact, after waking, his body felt unusually light.
Just then, Tang Rong’s optical brain received a video call.
It was from Xiao Han-ge.
Although Tang Rong still had no clear grasp of the situation, he quickly pressed accept.
The moment the call connected, an enlarged leopard face filled the screen.
“Baobao,” Tang Rong called out instinctively, using the old nickname.
“Miao-ao-ao… mi… wuwu…” Xiao Rong, you finally woke up, wuwu…
The little snow leopard could no longer hold it in. It bit its own tail and let several little pearls plop down in rapid succession.
