Chapter 70
Before long, Tang Rong was sitting on a little blanket, surrounded by a whole crowd of rabbits.
There were lop rabbits, lionhead rabbits, Angora rabbits, Siamese rabbits, giant rabbits, snow rabbits, chinchilla rabbits…
They all looked different, and their fur came in all sorts of colors too.
Some were very small, while some were even bigger than the little snow leopard. Some had drooping ears, while some had ears like a cat’s. Some had very short fur, while others were especially fluffy. Some had very short legs, while some only revealed themselves to be long-legged rabbits when they suddenly stood up.
Almost all of their tails could stretch out like measuring tapes too, which was especially fun.
Tang Rong petted this one, hugged that one, and was so blissful that he simply couldn’t pet them all fast enough.
Every single one of them was so, so satisfying to pet!
The rabbits were all very happy that Bai Tu had made a new friend, so they did their best to cuddle up to him and make him happy. Especially Bai Dad—a long-legged snow rabbit—who had just rushed home after finishing a meeting because his son had called him back.
In Tang Rong’s mind, the point notifications kept ringing one after another. He had never expected such a huge haul today.
Bai Tu and Shen Muhan sat to the side watching this scene, each with their own thoughts.
Bai Tu happily swung his little legs.
It was wonderful that Xiao Rong liked his rabbit family so much!
Shen Muhan, on the other hand, was resting his chin on one hand, his tongue pressing lightly against one of his canine teeth. His mood was not exactly great.
Why did Bai Tu have so many fluffy family members that Xiao Rong liked, while the dog raised by his own cousin could only make Xiao Rong allergic…?
If only his family were all little snow leopards too.
The moment that thought popped up, Shen Muhan immediately rejected it.
Forget it, forget it. If they were all little snow leopards, then he wouldn’t be the most special one anymore.
Xiao Rong’s little snow leopard could only be him.
…
Just like that, the day passed quickly. After eating a lavish carrot feast at the Bai house that evening, Tang Rong returned home with a basket full of carrots.
The carrots were all very fresh. The butler selected some to keep at home, since they could simply be washed, cut into small pieces, and eaten raw like fruit. The rest he handed to the chef, telling him to come up with more ways to prepare them.
That night, Tang Rong lay in bed holding the little snow leopard, eyes closed, and together with the system in his mind, they counted up all the points he had earned recently.
The system said, [Today you petted 23 rabbits in total! You earned more than 300 points!]
More than 300…!
Tang Rong still remembered that, after the system first bound itself to him, the very first dog he touched—the one that made him break out in allergies—had only given him 1 point.
The difference was simply enormous.
So excited that he couldn’t help himself, Tang Rong wound the little snow leopard’s tail around his fingers.
The system said, [Once you start learning healing abilities from Little Uncle, you’ll be able to go to the recovery center, pet even more fluffies, and earn even more points.]
The system had more or less summarized the point-earning rules based on the different kinds of fluffy creatures the host had petted recently—
If the target being petted had a close relationship with the host, the host would earn more points. For example, the rabbit relatives of Bai Tu that he petted today gave him fewer points than petting his own family members did.
The stronger the target’s spirit power, the more points he would gain.
If the target was injured or in a state of fluctuating spirit power, the more points he would gain as well.
Taken together, the fastest way to earn points would be to learn healing abilities as soon as possible and then work part-time at the recovery center.
Of course, the host’s body also had to be taken into consideration. He was still too young. Healing too many spirit bodies would overburden him physically, and that would do more harm than good.
There was no need to rush. Taking it slowly was fine.
Originally, the system had been mentally prepared for the possibility that its host might only find a way to safely earn points—without risking his life—after growing up and reaching adulthood. Compared to that, their current progress was already as fast as riding a starship.
While absently winding the little snow leopard’s tail around his fingers, Tang Rong wandered through the points store again under the system’s guidance.
Compared to the confusion he had felt the first time he browsed the points store, he could now understand many more product names.
“What is a Mind-Reading Card?” Tang Rong asked in his head.
The system explained, [A Mind-Reading Card lets you choose a target and hear their inner thoughts. A low-level card costing 10 points only lets you hear one single thought, and you can only use it once per day. A mid-level card costing 100 points lets you hear the target’s thoughts for ten minutes, also only once per day. A high-level card costing 1000 points lets you hear the target’s thoughts for 24 hours, with no restrictions on usage time.]
The system suggested, [You could buy a 10-point one just to try it out. It’s not expensive at all—petting one fluffy creature would earn that back.]
Tang Rong was indeed a little tempted by that. He immediately bought one and used it on the little snow leopard in his arms.
The instant he used it, he heard a familiar voice:
“Does Xiao Rong think my tail isn’t as cute as a rabbit’s tail?”
Tang Rong froze for a moment and opened his eyes. He realized that without noticing, he had wound the little snow leopard’s tail up into a tiny snail-shell shape, and it looked adorable.
And the little snow leopard’s icy blue eyes were slightly narrowed, as if it were preoccupied with something, quietly watching him.
Why would it think that? Rabbit tails were cute, of course, but the little snow leopard’s long tail was cute too.
Tang Rong immediately kissed the curled-up tail and coaxed it, “Baby’s tail is super cute. I like long tails.”
That low-level Mind-Reading Card could only let him hear one thought, so Tang Rong didn’t know what the little snow leopard was thinking now. But he could vaguely sense that it was in a very good mood. It took the initiative to wrap its little tail around his wrist a few times, lightly nibbled at the back of his hand, and burrowed its little face into the crook of his neck. One of its ears twitched quickly, making his neck feel a little itchy.
The system smiled helplessly.
Children this age always had inexplicable things they got hung up on.
…
The next morning, Tang Rong used another low-level Mind-Reading Card on Butler Uncle and heard his inner thought say, “When is the little crown prince’s oral fixation phase ever going to end?”
Tang Rong blinked and looked down at the back of his own hand. Last night, after the little snow leopard fell asleep, it had indeed nibbled and suckled there, leaving a few marks. But they didn’t hurt, and they didn’t bother him much, so he personally thought it was fine.
What he didn’t hear was the butler’s very next thought: “If it doesn’t end soon, I really want to put a muzzle on him. Bad snow leopard.”
Just after breakfast, Little Uncle Yun Yuan knocked on the door.
Today he had tied back his curls and changed into a cleaner, more refreshing style.
It was time to start learning healing abilities.
Although Tang Rong was still very young, he was clever and quick-witted. He was able to understand basically everything Yun Yuan said. Added to that, he had a strong desire to learn, so his progress was very smooth.
When the first day’s lesson ended, Yun Yuan stretched lazily and praised him, “Xiao Rong is the smartest student I’ve ever taught.”
Tang Rong felt a little embarrassed by the praise and curiously asked, “Little Uncle taught other children before too?”
Yun Yuan smiled. “I’ve taught a few, but not children. Most of them were teenagers.”
In truth, he didn’t really like dealing with children whose ages were still single digits—but Tang Rong was an exception.
Right before he left, Tang Rong used another low-level Mind-Reading Card on Little Uncle and heard his thought say, “I wonder when Xiao Qiu will finish making the clothes for me.”
So Sister Xiao Qiu was making new clothes for Little Uncle too? Tang Rong felt very curious and excited.
What he didn’t hear was Little Uncle’s next thought: “This time the skirt hem is definitely going to be gorgeous. I’ll absolutely do a beautiful makeup look, find a nice spot on the main planet, and take lots and lots of pictures.”
…
Shen Muhan also went back once to his own home in Eden today and didn’t return until evening.
Because of what he had said on the hovercar yesterday—“I’ll go learn it as soon as I get back”—the little crown prince had contacted his parents and his former teacher in advance last night, and had trained all day long.
He wanted to learn with Xiao Rong, improve together with him, and grow stronger together.
Once Xiao Rong saw his beast ears and tail in human form, he would definitely like him even more.
Completely unaware of what had actually happened, the teacher wiped away nonexistent tears in relief, feeling that the little crown prince had finally grown up.
…
Just like that, the two little children studied diligently for an entire week.
Occasionally, the little lion, the little fox, and the little bird would come over to audit the lessons, obediently huddling beside the child and keeping him company while he learned.
With his family accompanying him, the little child studied with greater happiness. And in between lessons, he could also pet the fluffy creatures, so work and rest were well balanced.
Although the little snow leopard still couldn’t manifest beast ears in human form the way Butler Uncle could, in the virtual sparring grounds it could already defeat some adults while using a false identity.
Another Monday arrived. Near dismissal time, Shen Muhan suddenly pulled Tang Rong outside into the little courtyard beyond the classroom with an air of mystery.
Tang Rong used to be extremely familiar with this process.
But ever since learning the identities of Shen Muhan and the little snow leopard, he had not been dragged outside by Shen Muhan for whispered conversations in a long time. After all, once they logged out of their learning pods, there was all the time in the world to talk slowly.
Because of that, Tang Rong’s heart was full of curiosity as he followed him out of the classroom.
He had no idea what it could be this time that couldn’t wait until they left the pod.
Shen Muhan didn’t explain anything at all. He merely put on a profound look and said, “Close your eyes first.”
Tang Rong obediently did as told and shut his eyes.
Once his vision was blocked by his eyelids, he didn’t hear any strange sounds in front of him either.
A few seconds later, Shen Muhan’s voice sounded again.
“You can open them now.”
Tang Rong immediately opened his eyes. The moment he saw the change in the person before him, he widened his eyes in surprise and delight.
On Shen Muhan’s head was now a pair of fluffy snow leopard ears, and behind him was a soft, fluffy snow leopard tail.
