Chapter 68
Ordinary humans who can manifest a spirit form are usually only able to switch between their human form and their spirit-beast form.
A human form with animal traits from the spirit form, however, belongs to a higher-level category of enhancement—meaning one can enjoy both the convenience of a human body and the power of a beast form.
It is essentially a strengthened version of the human form: one can manifest beast ears with the sharp hearing of an animal, a beast tail for balance, and can also freely control the growth of nails and teeth, possessing the power to tear and bite through a throat.
Not many people can reach this level. In most cases, only those with S-rank spirit power or above can barely achieve it, and even then, for most of them, it functions more as an auxiliary visual enhancement than a true retention of the beast spirit’s strength.
That alone showed how formidable the butler really was.
Yet in truth, he was only A-rank. But because Tang Yinsheng had adopted him when he was young and raised him alongside Tang Zheng’en—fighting with him all the way through childhood and into adulthood—his abilities had been passively honed and strengthened.
He had thought that, after becoming the Tang family’s butler, the master’s family was so much stronger than him that his own abilities would never have any real use.
He hadn’t expected there would one day come a time when he could use them to amuse a little child.
…
The hovercar finally arrived at the Bai residence.
From a distance, the two of them saw a familiar grandmother standing at the gate.
It was Grandma Bai, whom they had seen before in virtual space.
She held a small gift box in her hands and was smiling warmly in their direction.
But Bai Tu himself was nowhere to be seen.
The hovercar stopped temporarily outside the courtyard. The butler led the two little radish heads out of the car and over to her.
“Hello, Grandma,” the two children greeted obediently.
Grandma Bai answered with a smile and handed over the gift box in her hands.
The box had a little weight to it. Tang Rong and Shen Muhan held it together, both looking at it with obvious curiosity.
Grandma Bai said, “You can open it directly.”
So the two of them each tugged at one side of the ribbon and untied it.
The instant the lid came off the gift box, a fluffy rabbit head suddenly poked out.
It was a pure white lop rabbit with red eyes, about the size of two adult male palms laid out side by side. Its fur was entirely free of any mixed coloring, like a little clump of winter snow.
Tang Rong jumped in surprise. Luckily, Shen Muhan had been prepared and held the box steady, preventing both the box and the lop rabbit inside from falling to the ground.
Once the surprise passed, Tang Rong’s eyes burst with excitement.
Such an adorable little rabbit! It looked so soft! He wanted to pet it so badly!
The system said: [Go ahead, Host. It won’t make you allergic either.]
The moment the system finished speaking, Tang Rong immediately reached out and rubbed the little lop rabbit’s head.
It felt even better than he had imagined!
The instant his hand touched it, he heard the notification that he had gained 20 points.
Only after petting it did he suddenly realize something.
Given that he was allergic to ordinary small animals, but not to fluffy spirit forms,
it followed that the little rabbit in front of him must also be a spirit form.
“This is… Xiao Tu’s spirit form?!” Tang Rong guessed the right answer almost immediately. This time, instead of asking the system silently in his mind, he blurted it out loud in surprise.
“That’s right. Xiao Tu said he wanted to use his spirit form to give you two a surprise,” Grandma Bai explained with a smile.
A small optical-brain screen appeared above the lop rabbit’s head. On the screen was the image of a little heart.
Originally, Bai Tu had never dared tell his classmates the secret that he had a spirit form. In many people’s eyes, having a spirit form meant possessing great talent and power. But for Bai Tu, it only made others think he was even more violent. Added to the fact that he had once been mocked with the nickname “Violent Rabbit,” it had made him even more sensitive and insecure.
But after spending this period of time with the children in his class, and with Grandma’s patient encouragement, he had found a lot more courage.
It was obvious that Xiao Rong really liked fluffy little animals. Maybe… maybe he would like his spirit form too?
And besides, with Big Brother Xiao Han around, he was no longer the one with the greatest strength. Maybe then he wouldn’t be seen as some violent rabbit.
And so there came this “meeting through opening a gift.”
The facts proved that Xiao Rong really did seem to love his spirit form!
Staring at the little heart floating above the lop rabbit’s head, Tang Rong couldn’t hold back any longer. He lifted it out of the gift box and rubbed his cheek against its soft fur.
“Xiao Tu, your spirit form is so cute.”
The little lop rabbit got so excited it wished it could run to the vegetable garden and pull up every last carrot in one breath.
Unfortunately, all the carrots that had matured in the little vegetable garden had already been pulled out yesterday, so there was nothing left to yank up.
Though excited, the little lop rabbit was still terribly nervous in Tang Rong’s arms.
It was afraid that if it failed to control its strength, it might accidentally hurt Xiao Rong. But it was trying very, very hard to control itself. It absolutely, absolutely must not hurt its friend.
Seeing this, Grandma Bai invited them all inside. After all, it wasn’t much of a plan to keep standing around in the courtyard.
Only Grandma Bai and Bai Tu were home. Bai Tu’s mother was away on a work trip to another star system, and Bai Tu’s father happened to have an important meeting today that he couldn’t get out of, so he likely wouldn’t be back until evening.
The moment they walked inside, Tang Rong caught a strong scent of carrot.
On the floating table in front of the sofa sat many delicate little snacks and a huge plate of carrot cakes pressed into all kinds of shapes with molds.
The butler couldn’t help feeling that the scene was oddly familiar.
Not long ago, the first time he had gone to the hospital to visit the old master, the moment he entered the room he had been hit by an intense smell of dragon fruit.
Well… it really was kind of similar.
Tang Rong couldn’t put the little lop rabbit down. He lightly squeezed its little ears and poked its little tail.
The little lop rabbit happily enjoyed his petting.
For some reason, although his family often petted it too, none of them had ever felt as comfortable as Xiao Rong.
Held in Xiao Rong’s arms, it felt as though it had turned into a little snow rabbit and was about to melt from how comfortable it was.
But then, very suddenly, the little lop rabbit thought of something. It opened its eyes and began looking around. When it didn’t find what it wanted, a small optical-brain screen appeared above its head again.
On it were the words:
[Where’s the little snow leopard? Why don’t I see it? Didn’t you bring it with you?]
Because of the “Violent Rabbit” nickname, Bai Tu liked quieter activities, such as studying and reading. Compared to other children his age, he recognized more words.
Tang Rong had recently learned the three characters for “little snow leopard,” so he more or less guessed what the rabbit was asking. Instinctively, he turned to glance at Shen Muhan sitting beside him.
Receiving the signal, Shen Muhan suddenly took off his slippers and folded his legs on the sofa.
In the next second, Shen Muhan disappeared, and a familiar little snow leopard crawled out from beneath his clothes.
—This had been discussed before they came. If Xiao Tu asked, they would simply let him turn back into his little snow leopard form and then slowly explain things to him.
The little lop rabbit: !!
Its drooping ears nearly stood straight up from shock.
A few minutes later, Tang Rong had explained the whole story to the little rabbit.
The little lop rabbit’s mood went from utter astonishment to immense delight.
It was the delight of having found a “kindred spirit.”
Big Brother Xiao Han was just like it!
Since Xiao Rong liked Big Brother Xiao Han and Big Brother Xiao Han’s spirit form so much, then he would definitely like its spirit form too!
The little lop rabbit happily flopped over in Tang Rong’s arms and acted spoiled. Tang Rong obligingly rubbed its little belly.
Prompted by the little lop rabbit, Tang Rong picked up a carrot cake from the table and popped it into his mouth.
It was made from raw carrot chunks that had been pressed directly into shape with a mold, so it wasn’t very thick.
Slightly firm, sweet, and perfect for chewing.
Then Tang Rong picked up two more carrot cakes—one he handed to the little snow leopard sitting neatly at the side, and the other he held in his hand to feed the rabbit in his arms.
Compared to eating himself, he much preferred feeding fluffy creatures.
The little lop rabbit’s two front teeth were a little longer, and it very easily bit off one corner of the carrot cake, its three-part mouth chewing rapidly. It was unbearably cute.
Tang Rong fed it two pieces in a row, but then remembered how he had once overfed the little snow leopard with milk and made it sick, so he didn’t dare give it any more. After all, the little lop rabbit was even smaller than the little snow leopard.
Seeing Xiao Rong holding the little rabbit in his arms and feeding it instead of himself, the little snow leopard felt inexplicably disgruntled. It bit into its rabbit-head-shaped carrot cake with loud, crunchy ka-ka sounds.
After finishing, and seeing that Tang Rong still held the lop rabbit in his arms and couldn’t bear to let it go, paying absolutely no attention to him sitting off to the side, the little snow leopard finally couldn’t take it anymore. With one swift move, it bit down on the little lop rabbit’s tiny round tail, trying to get its attention and make it voluntarily leave Xiao Rong’s arms.
Hadn’t they agreed they would settle this once and for all?
Unexpectedly, the tiny little round tail, once bitten and pulled, stretched out like a retractable measuring tape, turning from a fluffy little ball into a fluffy long strip.
The little snow leopard: …?!
