Allergic To Furry Things But Can Pet Them Mentally – CH13

Chapter 13

The butler, who was sitting across from him, was startled and quickly called for the family doctor.

“It’s just a bit of trouble adjusting to a new environment. Rest and some time to recover will be enough, so there’s no need to be too nervous. Keep your mood as relaxed as possible, and in terms of food, stick to simple and light meals. He can also drink children’s nutrient solution directly. If he keeps vomiting later on or shows any other adverse reactions, I’ll prescribe medicine then,” the doctor said.

“Understood.” Still worried, the butler asked a few more questions about what to watch out for.

Tang Rong sat listlessly on the sofa, clutching a soft baby tissue in his hand, his mood somewhat low.

He did not know what “trouble adjusting to a new environment” meant. He only knew that he was probably sick.

His stomach was hungry, but he had no appetite. If he ate, he would just throw it up again. It felt awful.

Still, it did not seem to be a serious illness. If he endured it for a while, it would probably pass.

Back when he was on the junk planet, he had gotten sick before too. Grandma had taught him to recognize a few simple medicinal herbs while she was still alive. Whenever he got sick, he would chew on some grass. It could fill his stomach a little, and then he would just wait for his body to heal on its own.

Seeing that the doctor had finished examining him and was now packing up his things, Tang Rong slipped his feet out of his little tiger slippers, leaned against a cushion, and curled himself into the sofa in a wilted little ball.

After seeing the doctor out, the butler returned to the living room. Seeing Tang Rong huddled into a tiny, pitiful ball on the sofa, he could not help but feel sorry for him. He bent down, rubbed his little head, and asked, “Would you like some nutrient solution? Or do you want to rest first?”

Tang Rong had never drunk nutrient solution before. He had only seen it in advertisements and knew it was expensive. Afraid he might drink it and then vomit it back up, wasting it, even though he was a little curious about what it tasted like, he still shook his head.

Then his gaze drifted toward the window, and he mumbled softly, “I want to go sit in the yard and bask in the sun.”

The sun was rising. The sunlight was not too strong yet, but it was obvious that today would be a bright, sunny day.

Grandma used to say that children were like little seedlings, and that if they wanted to grow tall, they had to get more sunlight. Unfortunately, the junk planet got very little sun. He had never seen such lovely sunlight before.

The butler immediately carried a lounge chair outside and then picked Tang Rong up and placed him on it. Afraid the morning temperature had not fully risen yet and that he might catch a chill, he also brought him a small blanket.

Tang Rong was so tiny that his whole body fit curled up on the lounge chair.

Seeing this, the butler went back inside to make a phone call, reporting Tang Rong’s condition to sir and confirming the matter of the video call later.

It had only taken him the length of a phone call, yet by the time he returned, Tang Rong had already pushed aside the blanket and climbed down from the lounge chair. His tiny figure had slipped into the garden, and his mouth was chewing away at something, though no one knew what.

A vein jumped at the butler’s temple. He strode over, gently pinched Tang Rong’s mouth, and interrupted his chewing.

When Third Young Master was little, because of the fluctuations in his spiritual power, he could only maintain his fox form. He was always picking up random things and gnawing on them, curious enough to bite two mouthfuls out of anything he saw. Every time the butler caught him, he would simply pry open the little fox’s mouth and make it spit everything out.

Toward the little child in front of him, the butler was much gentler. He only lightly pinched his cheeks to stop him from chewing any further and keep him from swallowing it down.

Only after seeing that Tang Rong’s mouth was full of chewed-up grass did the butler relax slightly.

The plants in the garden had all been carefully screened. Whether flowers or grass, none of them would cause any harm to the human body. In Eden, spiritual energy was abundant, so plants thrived wonderfully without needing any drugs or fertilizer.

The butler also recognized the grass in Tang Rong’s mouth. It was a very common plant and had no toxicity.

Still, eating raw grass like this was a little…

“Is Xiao Rong very hungry? We can ask the kitchen to make something else you might like. The nutrient solution tastes very good too, and there are lots of flavors. Would Xiao Rong like to try one?”

Naturally, the butler interpreted Tang Rong’s grass-eating as an act driven by hunger. Back on the ship, Tang Rong had shared some of his life on the junk planet with him, including how, when he got too hungry, he would look for certain plants and fruits to eat.

After hearing that, Tang Rong shrank back a little and wriggled free from the butler’s restraint. Almost unconsciously, he chewed the thing in his mouth a few more times and shook his head.

“This is medicinal herb,” he said while chew chew chewing. “It can cure sickness,” chew chew chew. “Every time I get sick, I eat this,” chew chew chew. “It helps me get better faster.”

He had only spotted this familiar medicinal herb by chance while basking in the sun on the lounge chair. So he had thought he would pick some and chew on it. Maybe it would help him feel a little better, and even if he threw up, at least it would not be a waste of anything.

The butler was so shocked that for a moment he did not know what to say.

Although it was true that most plants had some medicinal value, eating them raw directly was definitely not an especially good way to take them.

But for some people on the junk planet, that was really the only way available to them.

Afraid Tang Rong might swallow it down, the butler reached out again and lightly pinched his cheeks.

Tang Rong looked at him in confusion, his beautiful pale green eyes pure and innocent.

The little child simply knew too little. He was only dealing with the problem in the way he always had.

It could not really be called wrong—only very imperfect.

The butler did not want to reject that approach outright.

These past few days, he had been reading childcare materials every day, and together with some things he had learned long ago, he knew that a child’s education should not be filled with denial, but with proper guidance.

“Xiao Rong, spit the grass out first, and then Uncle will tell you why it’s better to spit it out, alright?”

Tang Rong froze for a few seconds, then nodded blankly.

Seeing that, the butler let go of him, and the little robot also brought over a trash bin.

With the chewed-up grass still in his mouth, Tang Rong obediently spat it into the trash bin. Afterward, the butler handed him a cup of warm water so he could rinse his mouth. Tang Rong obediently rinsed, then used a tissue to wipe his mouth clean.

The butler then carried him back to the lounge chair, tucked the small blanket over him, and patiently, step by step, began explaining in words a child could understand why medicinal herbs were best not eaten raw.

On the other side, Tang Yinsheng and Tang Zheng’en, who were watching the surveillance video while talking over a video call, had both fallen somewhat quiet.

Tang Yinsheng was lying in a hospital bed, wearing a tiger-patterned thumb ring on his hand, his fingertip gently rubbing over it.

His spirit form was a tiger, his zodiac sign was also tiger, and his name even contained the character “Yin,” one of the twelve earthly branches paired with the tiger.

The little tiger slippers Tang Rong was wearing had also been specially prepared by him.

Tang Zheng’en, meanwhile, was in his own room, already changed into the same loose hospital gown as his father.

Tang Qiu and Tang Hu had gone out early that morning and had not yet returned, so the two of them had started a video call first and planned to invite Tang Rong into it together once those two came back.

After a long silence, Tang Zheng’en glanced at his father on the video screen, rubbed his nose, and broke the quiet. “I didn’t expect Old Ji to be so good with children.”

Tang Yinsheng gave a soft sigh, his weathered face filled with emotions that were difficult to put into words.

Many years ago, Butler Ji had not yet been Butler Ji. He had been an orphan whom Tang Yinsheng and his wife had happened to find on another planet and then adopted as their godson.

He had grown up together with Tang Zheng’en, two years older than him, and the two were closer than real brothers.

Later, before he had even finished university, he got his marriage certificate with a girl he had met while doing volunteer work at an orphanage back in middle school. The two had always been deeply in love. After graduation, both found stable jobs, held their delayed wedding, and lived a sweet and happy life.

Not long after the wedding, the girl became pregnant. Every day, he busied himself preparing for the baby’s arrival so thoroughly that when Tang Zheng’en asked him out to play ball, he would not even bother responding.

Back then, Tang Zheng’en had always joked that once the child was born, this man would definitely turn into a hardcore super dad.

But good times did not last long. In the later stage of pregnancy, the girl was diagnosed with a health problem. At first, the plan had been to sacrifice the baby to save the mother, but in the end the situation worsened, and neither could be saved.

After that, he resigned from his original job and began focusing entirely on helping Tang Yinsheng handle all the little odds and ends under him, becoming the Tang family’s butler. He never dated or married again, and likely never would for the rest of his life.

Later, when Tang Zheng’en and Yun Jian’s three children were born one after another, although the butler watched them grow up, he was not the one personally raising them. He merely lent a hand when needed, because after all, they had their biological parents to care for them, and he himself was only an “outsider.”

Now, when it came to Tang Rong, he had given a great deal and also received a great deal in return.

It was obvious that he was slowly walking out of the shadow of twenty-some years ago. Otherwise, he would not have studied so many childcare materials or taken care of the little child so conscientiously.

As he cared for the little one, the little one was also healing him.

Meanwhile, Tang Qiu and Tang Hu finally finished shopping and got into the hovercar to head home.

Inside the car, Tang Hu was wearing a handsome black workwear outfit. Around his neck was a collar used to restrict spiritual power, and over his mouth he wore a black metal muzzle.

—Tang Qiu had personally matched the whole outfit for him.

Besides liking to dress up dolls in pretty clothes and accessories, Tang Qiu also liked dressing up her family members.

That was far more fun than those dress-up games on the market.

As soon as they got into the car, the two impatiently joined the family video call.

Father and Grandpa both asked how their shopping trip had gone.

When he learned that Tang Qiu had gone out today, Grandpa Tang Yinsheng had been shocked for a long while, but also very pleased.

“It went very smoothly. Sis even got hit on,” Tang Hu said cheerfully.

Tang Qiu immediately jabbed him with her elbow, and Tang Hu sucked in a breath from the pain.

Both Tang Yinsheng and Tang Zheng’en instantly wore curious, gossip-hungry expressions.

Tang Qiu’s cheeks grew a little hot. She already stuttered to begin with, and now she was even less able to get any words out.

Afraid of getting elbowed again, Tang Hu coughed lightly. “Sis ignored that person, so there was no follow-up. We bought a lot of things. Sis said she’s going to rush and stay up late to finish making the doll, and I also need to hurry up and record the audio.”

Tang Yinsheng smiled at the siblings sitting together, the wrinkles on his face full of happiness, then said earnestly, “Still, you both need to rest properly. No need to rush so much. Xiao Rong threw up when he got up for breakfast today. The doctor said it’s just a bit of trouble adjusting to the new environment, so he also needs to rest well during this time.”

The two had been out shopping all morning and had not paid attention to the surveillance or messages, so they had no idea Tang Rong was having trouble adjusting. As soon as they heard that, they immediately opened the surveillance feed and took a look at Tang Rong’s current situation.

Tang Rong was currently curled up on the rocking chair in the yard, basking in the sun with his eyes comfortably narrowed. The butler sat beside him, sunning himself together with him and chatting with him every so often.

Only after seeing that nothing serious seemed to be wrong did the two of them relax a little.

“When we get back, we’ll change into hospital gowns too and video call together.”

With nothing else to do in the car, the two started watching the surveillance footage from Tang Rong’s morning at double speed.

When they got to the part where Tang Rong was eating grass, Tang Hu could not help but laugh foolishly.

Tang Qiu turned her eyes to look at him.

Tang Hu looked proud. “As expected of my little brother. He really has my style from back then.”

Tang Qiu could not help but laugh softly and replied through AI, “You mean like that foxtail-cutting grass that makes a fox lose one tail every time it eats it?”

Tang Hu: “…”

Tang Hu instantly fell silent in embarrassment.

When he was little, in order to stop the little fox from chewing random plants, Mother had lied to him and said that the grass in his mouth was called tail-cutting grass, and that eating it once would make one of his tails fall off. Then at night she had gone home and counted his nine tails: “One, two, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight… oh dear, why are there only eight tails left now? Baby, from now on you can’t eat unfamiliar things anymore. If all your tails fall off, how ugly would that be?”

The little fox had been so frightened that it wailed loudly, stuffed all its tails into Mother’s arms, and never again dared chew random plants.

…That unspeakably humiliating dark history of his.

Tang Hu immediately sped the footage up even more and quickly skipped past that section of the little child eating grass, going straight to the part where the butler patiently explained everything to him.

Damn.

Back then, why had Uncle not explained things to him like this too? He had spent such a long time terrified that all his tails would really fall off.

Finally, the two arrived home and rushed back to their respective rooms, eagerly changed into hospital gowns, joined the video call, and sent a message over to the butler.

On screen were four people sitting neatly in exactly the same hospital gowns, and for a moment the image was oddly hard to describe without calling it ridiculous.

Tang Hu was the first to break and let out a snort of laughter.

“Be serious,” Tang Zheng’en coughed lightly, though the curve at the corner of his mouth was impossible to suppress.

Not long after, a new message popped up.

“Xiao Rong” has requested to join the video call.
