Chapter 104
In the end, everyone split open the fully ripened coconut that had hit Shen Yuchun on the head and shared it among themselves.
A day later, Tang Yao and Lin Fei successfully arrived at the first planet of their honeymoon.
The moment they stepped out of the starport, they called the main planet on video.
Tang Rong sat right in the middle, staring unblinkingly at the scene on the other side of the screen, his face full of curiosity.
As a little cub not yet five years old, Tang Rong had only ever been to two planets—Trash Planet and the Main Planet.
So when it came to his brother and sister-in-law visiting many different planets on their honeymoon, Tang Rong felt especially envious and especially excited.
If he were not afraid of becoming an extra little third wheel, he would have loved to travel to other planets with them too.
After all, every planet had its own climate, scenery, and culture. It had to be very interesting.
Though, to be fair, he still had not finished exploring the Main Planet yet, so there was no rush.
Tang Yao and Lin Fei’s first stop was a planet whose surface was drenched in beautiful shades of pink.
Because of the planet’s special soil composition, the ground carried a faint rosy tint. Its climate was mild, with almost no harsh winters or scorching summers, making it especially comfortable. Flowers and greenery bloomed all year round, and it was known as one of the galaxy’s premier dating destinations.
In the video call, his brother and sister-in-law had just left the starport and gotten into a hovercar. Outside the window stretched vast seas of gorgeous flowers, breathtakingly beautiful.
The two of them were busy enjoying their trip, so the video call did not last long, but it still left behind a deep, unshakable impression in Tang Rong’s heart.
Without realizing it, his little hand began rapidly stroking the soft fur of the little snow leopard. At some point, this had become a habit of his. Whenever he was thinking, spacing out, or dwelling on something, he liked to pet the little snow leopard.
The little snow leopard lay limp in its nest on the hovering little robot, so comfortable from being petted that although it had no strength at all and even meowing took effort, a soft purring still rumbled in its throat.
The snow-leopard-brand little motorbike had started up again.
…
That night, Tang Rong slept with his father and mother.
Because of his physical condition, the little snow leopard could only sleep by itself in the nest off to one side, in case someone accidentally rolled onto it during the night and it did not have the strength to break free.
Tang Zheng’en, meanwhile, had changed into his little lion form and taken the little snow leopard’s usual place, his small tail curling around his little cub’s wrist.
Tang Rong thought the little snow leopard’s tail felt more comfortable wrapped around his wrist, but he did not say it out loud, afraid of hurting his father’s feelings.
The window in the room was left half open. The sea breeze on the island carried a salty scent, and brushing across the skin at night felt especially pleasant.
The moon by the sea always seemed brighter than anywhere else, but after being filtered through the translucent white gauze curtains, it did not disturb the good dreams inside the room.
Before bed, Yun Jian told the two little cubs a bedtime story for a while.
The little snow leopard was already exhausted, so it soon drifted off drowsily. Tang Rong, however, was unusually awake and showed no sign of wanting to sleep.
After finishing one story, Yun Jian looked down at the little treasure in her arms, his beautiful pale green eyes still wide and round as he gazed at her. She glanced at the little snow leopard already asleep in its nest nearby, did not continue with another story, and instead pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“Still not sleepy?” she asked softly.
Tang Rong immediately kissed her back on the face. Squirming shyly, he finally could not help voicing the thought he had been keeping hidden.
“Mom, I want to go to another planet too.”
“Is there any planet you especially want to visit?” Yun Jian asked.
Tang Rong pressed his lips together, then burrowed a little deeper into his mother’s arms before replying in a muffled voice, “Trash Planet.”
His brother and sister-in-law’s planet was very beautiful, and he wanted to visit it too. But the place he most wanted to go right now was still Trash Planet.
He had not told anyone, but during the New Year holiday he had thought of Grandma.
Only the system had read his thoughts and comforted him a little.
The emotion that surfaced when he thought of Grandma was not sadness, but regret.
The system was right. Grandma had already been very old, and she had died because her body had simply worn out. Even if her body had been preserved intact and she were brought back, all that would mean was forcing her to continue enduring the burden of an aging body in this world.
His regret came only from the reluctance and worry in Grandma’s eyes before she died.
He wanted to go back to Trash Planet and have a look. He did not even know what exactly he wanted to look at. He simply felt that he should go back.
“All right. Once your brother and sister-in-law return, Mom will book the tickets and we’ll all go together to the place where Xiao Rong used to live. Xiao Rong will have to be our little tour guide, okay?” Yun Jian touched her forehead lightly to his.
“Mhm!” The thing that had been weighing on Tang Rong’s heart was finally gone. Sleepiness quickly welled up, and before long he was asleep in his mother’s arms.
Yun Jian exchanged a glance with the little lion nestled in the crook of her arm, then lowered her head and gently kissed the little lion on the forehead as well.
…
After they returned from spending a few days on the island, the little snow leopard’s condition finally improved somewhat. It could stand up again, and its tail could once more curl around the little cub’s wrist when they slept.
It still tired easily, though. After walking for a bit it would be too exhausted to continue, and even chewing on little chicken drumsticks felt like too much trouble. After several days on nutrient solution, the whole leopard had grown noticeably thinner.
When Tang Rong held it in his arms, he could clearly feel the difference from before, and it made his heart ache terribly.
Because of the little snow leopard’s physical state, the two little cubs both took leave from kindergarten.
Doctors and researchers came every day to examine the little snow leopard and record its condition, and Tang Rong always stayed by its side.
Because the night it had suddenly transformed into a big snow leopard had been something never before seen in the entire galaxy for one so young, it naturally had to be documented carefully.
Everyone knew that the little snow leopard was amazing.
Tang Rong only knew that the little snow leopard had grown thinner.
Aside from making sure the little snow leopard ate properly every day, Tang Rong had also secretly started growing a little potted plant.
The little snow leopard’s birthday fell at the turning point between spring and summer. It was coming very soon.
This little plant was the birthday gift he had prepared for the little snow leopard.
To stop the little snow leopard from finding out, he had placed the flowerpot in Sister Xiao Qiu’s room.
Because Xiao Sister Qiu’s house had been expanded several times, it now extended all the way to the farthest edge and was the most distant from his. On top of that, she liked peace and quiet, and she was always making all kinds of new little outfits for the little snow leopard, so the little snow leopard rarely went there.
Tang Rong ran over to his sister’s place several times a day to take care of the little sprout in the flowerpot. When he was not there, his sister helped him look after it too. Because of this, every time he came back, the little snow leopard would look at him with a very odd expression.
It always felt as though he were just waiting for its body to fully recover so he could start a whole new round of “dress-up games.”
About a week later, the little snow leopard finally made a full recovery and could once again run, jump, and devour little chicken drumsticks to its heart’s content.
But it had tried, and it truly could no longer transform back into its big snow leopard form.
The doctors and researchers said it had only been a temporary burst of potential triggered by extreme stimulation. If it wanted to switch stably into its big snow leopard form, it would need to keep working hard.
The snow leopard sighed.
Still, at least his father had realized something was wrong that night and recorded everything from beginning to end. It had already watched the footage from that night over and over several times.
Its big snow leopard form had looked majestic beyond words, far more handsome than that other snow leopard on the mountain. Xiao Rong had been especially surprised and had loved it very much.
From now on, no other snow leopard would ever casually dream of replacing it again.
Once it recovered, the little snow leopard finally changed back into human form and began doing little shell crafts with Tang Rong using the shells they had picked up on the beach before.
A few days later, the two little cubs, both still under five years old, had successfully made shell wind chimes, shell necklaces, shell bracelets, and other small accessories.
Yun Jian was very surprised by how skillful they both were with their hands.
Tang Rong made sense—he was learning to carve healing runes as part of being a healer, so he already had some foundation. Shen Muhan, on the other hand, simply had astonishingly strong natural hands-on talent.
The two of them carefully wrapped the little shell gifts one by one and sent them to family and friends.
On Shen Muhan’s birthday, he was picked up early by people from the royal family. It was said that a birthday banquet would be held for him in the palace.
But he only needed to attend the banquet in the morning. He would be able to come back in the afternoon and celebrate his birthday once more with Tang Rong.
After all, he was the Empire’s Crown Prince. His birthday, for the royal family, was not merely a birthday.
But once he returned to Tang Rong’s side, then his birthday would simply be a birthday again.
Once the evening banquet was over, his parents would come by to spend time with him too.
At last, after enduring the entire morning, Shen Muhan took just one perfunctory bite of cake and eagerly boarded the hovercar back to Eden.
By the time Shen Muhan arrived, Tang Rong had already wrapped up the gift for him and was standing at the little courtyard gate waiting.
Shen Muhan was still dressed in an exquisite little formal outfit, yet he did not put on the slightest aristocratic airs. He ran straight toward the little friend he had had his eyes on the whole time.
“Happy birthday, Xiao Han-brother.” Tang Rong handed him the gift box in his hands.
He liked giving gifts first. That way he would not keep thinking about them and have them distract from all the happiness that came after.
Shen Muhan took the gift box with both hands and hurriedly opened it.
Inside was a small flowerpot filled with many little green leaves.
This was… this was…
Shen Muhan quickly leaned in and sniffed it. His whole body jolted, and it felt as though he had flown up into the clouds, weightless and blissful.
It—he—he was going to lose control…
Without another thought, Shen Muhan quickly shoved the little flowerpot back into Tang Rong’s hands. In the next instant, his whole person disappeared, replaced by a little snow leopard half-buried under a pile of clothes.
Tang Rong immediately crouched down, set the flowerpot aside on the ground, and “rescued” the dazed little snow leopard from underneath the clothes.
“Mii-woo.” The little snow leopard ran over to the flowerpot and sniffed it again. All four paws went weak, and it simply collapsed to the floor, rolling over to expose its fluffy little belly and squinting in bliss as it rolled around.
What an intoxicating, happiness-inducing scent for a leopard!
Tang Rong took the chance to rub the little snow leopard’s belly and said to the system in his mind, “Xiao Han-brother really does like catnip.”
