After Reincarnating as the Dragon King, I Made a Fortune with Seafood – CH41

First Credit

Chapter 41: First Credit

Lu Ao sat up and stared at the large ship.

It was already very close, only about one or two nautical miles away.

The ship across from them stopped at a distance, seeming to be waiting for something.

Lu Ao’s ears were sharp. He heard movement inside their own ship too.

He stood and walked to the railing, looking down. On the lower deck, King and the female researcher beside him had gotten up at some point.

King was carrying a large case and taking the female researcher downward.

Lu Ao stared at them.

There was a speedboat tied to the stern of this ship. The two of them were probably planning to take it over to the other vessel.

King somehow noticed him. He suddenly turned and looked up.

Lu Ao met King’s eyes in the darkness.

King no longer had that warmth or friendliness on his face. In the depths of the night, he looked like a dangerous beast.

Lu Ao’s face was expressionless.

King, however, smiled at him and raised a hand in greeting. It seemed like a farewell, but it carried no small amount of triumph.

When he raised his hand, Lu Ao noticed a small dark shape in it, as if he were holding something. Looking carefully, he realized it was a handgun.

The female researcher beside him also looked over, raising the gun in her hand and aiming it at Lu Ao.

Lu Ao was not frightened, nor did he move. He had no intention of waking the companions beside him.

This group was even more dangerous than Lu Ao had imagined. It was not suitable to wake Xiang Xingchang and the others.

King turned and said something to the female researcher.

He spoke in the language of Country U, and Lu Ao did not understand.

After listening, she lowered the gun, looked away, and continued walking down side by side with King.

The two of them calmly placed the case into the speedboat, started it, and headed toward the large ship.

Lu Ao watched them.

King waved to Lu Ao, though whether it was mockery or farewell was unclear.

A surge of killing intent rose in Lu Ao’s heart.

He gently closed his eyes.

Their ship was on the vast sea. In every direction, there was water.

Lu Ao remembered that day when Song Zhou had taught him how to make rain, how to draw clouds over, how to make the tiny water droplets inside clouds collide.

There were no clouds here, but there was endless water.

Lu Ao’s consciousness drifted across the boundless sea. Countless tiny droplets became lighter and smaller, riding the wind as they floated over the surface, spreading a soft veil over the ocean.

“King.” Not long after the speedboat set off, the female researcher suddenly sensed something was wrong. Her voice changed slightly. “There’s fog.”

King looked around. Pale-white mist was slowly gathering. At first, it was barely visible, but after only a few breaths, the fog grew thicker and thicker.

A bad premonition rose in King’s heart. He looked back toward the ship behind them.

Lu Ao was still standing on the deck, gradually shrinking into a small dark silhouette.

The female researcher said anxiously, “No, the fog is getting thicker. We need to slow the speedboat down.”

Just then, the satellite phone in their hands rang.

The female researcher picked up, and the person on the other end shouted, “Catherine, why aren’t you here yet?!”

“There’s fog,” the female researcher said. “We need to slow down. Wait for us a little longer.”

“No! Speed up!” King suddenly barked, lunging over and pushing the engine to maximum.

With his excellent eyesight, he had already seen another dark shadow appear behind the young man named Lu Ao.

The shadow seemed to be embracing him. As the shadow grew clearer, the fog around them became thicker and thicker.

The person on the satellite phone also shouted, “Hurry up! If you’re any slower, we’ll be trapped in this sea fog too.”

“We are.” King’s voice was still calm. “Prepare to receive us.”

“We’re ready. The water tank is already running, and the cold storage is prepared. We’re just waiting for your Chinese coelacanths.”

“We’re almost—”

Before he could finish, the satellite phone crackled, and the sound suddenly disappeared.

He shouted into the phone, “Hello!”

There was dead silence from the other end, as if what he held was only a brick.

The female researcher looked around uneasily.

At some point, the white fog had already surrounded the small boat. Under the dim night, the mist was tinged with an ominous gray.

She turned on the bow light. The orange-yellow glow was extremely dim and could not even pierce the fog one meter ahead.

Everything around them seemed to have vanished. King’s expression changed, and he lunged forward to shut off the engine.

Their speedboat came to a stop, floating like a leaf on the vast surface of the water.

“How did this happen?” Catherine hugged her arms, filled with fear.

She knew there were two large ships around them, but she did not know where they were. If they crashed into either ship, or if the two ships moved toward each other and caught them in between, only death awaited them.

King was alarmed and uncertain. “Just now, I think I saw a shadow behind Lu Ao.”

“That’s impossible, right?” Catherine forced a smile. “This isn’t funny. Don’t joke around.”

King knew he was not joking.

Not only had he seen it, he had clearly felt that the moment the shadow appeared was the moment the fog rapidly thickened.

Lu Ao had exhausted himself creating this fog.

Once the fog rose, his whole body went weak. He had no strength left at all.

He staggered backward a few steps, and his back suddenly pressed against a broad, warm chest.

Lu Ao instantly recognized the scent of the person behind him. “Song Zhou…”

He relaxed and leaned against the person behind him, murmuring, “Why are you here?”

“I sensed the fluctuation on your side.” Song Zhou helped him sit down, took out a small bottle of liquid, and fed it to him. “Don’t talk. Drink some water first.”

The liquid was icy and slightly sweet. After Lu Ao swallowed it, his dry, burning throat was quickly soothed.

After drinking, Lu Ao finally felt alive again. “What is this?”

“A spiritual spring from old Songzhou.”

Song Zhou asked, “Are you sleepy? Do you want to go back and rest for a while?”

“They—” Lu Ao wanted to ask about Xiang Xingchang and the others, but when he turned, he saw that everyone was sleeping soundly, one little snore after another rising like a symphony.

They were sleeping so peacefully that Lu Ao was almost infected by it and wanted to fall asleep too.

Song Zhou said, “Go back and sleep. Everyone nearby is asleep.”

Lu Ao looked at the vast white fog. “Including the ship across from us?”

“Yes. They’re asleep. Their instruments have also malfunctioned. They can’t leave.”

Lu Ao stood and looked at the nearly endless white fog. “Did I make all of this?”

“No. You started it. I helped supplement it.” Song Zhou looked at him, his eyes carrying a smile. “After this, you should more or less be able to learn how to make rain.”

Hearing that, Lu Ao could not help recalling that mysterious feeling of countless water droplets floating lightly upward. Even now, he was still partly immersed in that sensation and could not quite pull himself out.

After taking a moment, Lu Ao stood. He still wanted to handle the important matter first. “Since the captain is asleep too, I’ll borrow the phone and call the police again.”

“I’ll go with you.”

Lu Ao had only used the phone that evening, so he was now extremely familiar with it.

He called the Qianyong Maritime Navigation Public Security Bureau and reported that King and the others had poached coelacanths and were also carrying guns.

The people at the bureau knew him and told him, “Captain Zhang has already taken people there overnight.”

“So fast?” Lu Ao added, “Now there’s another large ship no smaller than ours coming to receive King and the others. The people on that ship may also be armed. Does Captain Zhang have enough people and firepower?”

The officer who answered was not too clear on the details. Hearing this, he hurriedly said, “I’ll report this to our superiors immediately. Thank you for the information.”

“No problem. There’s fog on our side now. The ship across from us seems to be trapped in the fog too. I just don’t know how long it can hold them.”

“Alright. I’ll report it,” the officer said. “Please keep in contact.”

After hanging up, Lu Ao simply stopped trying to sleep and sat on the deck with Song Zhou.

It was rare for the two of them to do nothing and simply lean together, talking.

By the time the fog had risen, it was already the latter half of the night. Lu Ao felt as if only a short while had passed before the edge of the sky began to pale like a fish’s belly.

Dawn was coming.

Before long, the sunrise would appear, and the rest of the people on the ship would wake.

Song Zhou lifted his eyes and looked into the distance. “The police are here. I’ll go back first. We’ll talk after you return.”

“Alright.” Lu Ao was somewhat reluctant. “Be careful on your way back.”

Song Zhou waved. His figure gradually faded and disappeared.

Lu Ao leaned against the railing. The salty morning sea breeze whipped his hair until it flew.

He looked up at the sky, which had just begun to reveal its blue, and narrowed his eyes, feeling a little lost.

Even though he knew they would meet again soon, watching Song Zhou disappear still made him feel sad.

The sky grew bluer minute by minute.

In front of Lu Ao, the fog remained dense. Behind him, however, the broad expanse of sea was bright and clear, without the slightest trace of mist.

As the sky brightened, the satellite phone beside Lu Ao rang again.

He answered. On the other end was an unfamiliar voice. “Hello, Lu Ao. This is Lu Chengyin from the Qianming Sea Third Fleet. We have arrived near the target. Please report the coordinates again.”

Lu Ao gave the coordinates and said, “There’s sea fog in the nearby waters. Please be careful when you come over.”

“Received. Please wait where you are and prepare to receive us.”

After both sides hung up, it did not take long before Lu Ao saw a massive warship rushing over from the horizon.

Lu Ao took off his jacket and waved it hard.

At that moment, perhaps sensing his movement, Xiang Xingchang and the others gradually woke up.

Everyone rubbed their sleepy eyes, unable to believe that they had actually slept so deeply under these circumstances.

At this point, the fog was slowly dispersing. By the time the warship approached, the fog around the opposite ship had almost cleared as well.

The people on the warship immediately discovered the large fishing vessel that had entered Chinese waters without filing a report.

The people on that ship had only just woken up as well. The Chinese soldiers boarded abruptly and caught them red-handed.

As for King and Catherine, who were still on the speedboat, they had already raised their hands in surrender under the encirclement of several small boats carrying soldiers.

Catherine’s face was ashen. Her eyes were full of terror. Even as she was arrested, she kept muttering about ghosts.

The soldier cuffing her heard her vague Country U words and snapped without any courtesy, “Behave yourself! Only people with ghosts in their hearts see ghosts everywhere!”

Dozens of soldiers also boarded Lu Ao’s ship.

The captain had long since obediently gone to cooperate with the investigation.

Xiang Xingchang looked at the soldiers who had descended like divine troops and found it hard to believe. “How did they get here so fast?”

“The higher-ups were very interested in these foreign forces this time. The moment they received the information, we came.” Captain Zhang strode over and shook Lu Ao’s hand. “Not bad, Lu Ao. You’ve made another great contribution.”

Lu Ao had not slept all night, and he had created a fog in the middle of the night, consuming a tremendous amount of energy. Hearing this, he waved his hand. “I’d rather not run into this kind of thing at all.”

“Hahaha, even if you do, it’s fine. Just notify us in time.” Captain Zhang was familiar with Lu Ao now, so he revealed a little more. “The people who boarded the other ship just sent word. This time, they seized quite a few good things, including some high-precision instruments that Country U bans from export. With this result, you deserve the first credit.”

Captain Zhang was in high spirits and extremely delighted. Seeing that Lu Ao could barely stand, he patted him and said, “You go rest for a while. After our people finish taking inventory, come over and cooperate with the investigation.”

Lu Ao did not stand on ceremony. “Then I’ll go sleep first.”
