Chapter 92
Inside the interrogation room, the lights blazed harsh and white. Pale smoke drifted in thin strands, winding slowly between the two men.
Yu Zhi blinked. His gaze shifted away from Fu Suxi’s blurred face and fell instead on the hand holding the cigarette.
The ember between his fingers flared and dimmed. Several vivid red scratch marks streaked across the back of his hand, trailing beneath his sleeve, carrying a faint scent of blood.
Yu Zhi asked in return, “How did you know he stole my blood?”
“He wasn’t just hiding a bomb on him?”
After a pause, he added, “How were you sure something was wrong with him? You just aimed a gun at him like that?”
Fu Suxi took a drag. “Wasn’t sure. Just thought he looked suspicious. Tried my luck.”
“As for stealing blood…” He let out a soft scoff. “He’s part of the blood research team. If he didn’t steal your blood…”
His tone shifted, meaningfully. “What else could he steal? The thing you hid?”
Yu Zhi’s eyelid twitched. He caught the implication immediately—this lunatic was talking about the invitation from Meteorite Biotech.
This mad dog had been sniffing around it like he’d caught the scent of meat.
Feeling Fu Suxi’s unwavering stare, Yu Zhi replied calmly, “He could steal a person.”
[Truth detected.]
Fu Suxi: “…”
After a moment of silence, he exhaled the remaining smoke in his mouth. “Steal you? How?”
Yu Zhi’s lips twitched. “That’s a question for you. You’ve got more experience stealing people.”
“After all, didn’t you seize me by force?”
[Lie detected.]
Fu Suxi: “…”
Yu Zhi gave him a fake smile. “The passionate story of an S-class ability user being forcefully taken by his younger brother—you forgot already?”
Fu Suxi: “…………”
Of course he hadn’t forgotten. He’d been the one who said that to Yu Zhi in the first place.
Yu Zhi lifted his eyelids lazily and changed the subject first. “You said he wasn’t just carrying a bomb.”
Fu Suxi flicked ash off his cigarette. “The body’s right there. Check it yourself.”
Yu Zhi looked past him at the pile of corpses behind.
All the other bodies had been shot clean through the head. Only one looked especially gruesome—no head, arms intact, two bullet holes in the legs, clothes soaked with dried blood.
Yu Zhi didn’t go to check.
Partly because the corpse was too disgusting. Partly because if Fu Suxi was avoiding the question, then the researcher had definitely been hiding more than a bomb.
Most likely, he’d hidden Yu Zhi’s blood—planning to pass it to Meteorite Biotech for analysis.
Now the blood was probably already there. The researcher hadn’t managed to send it out before getting caught by Fu Suxi.
Thinking this far, Yu Zhi cut off his train of thought.
There was no point continuing. Fu Suxi had countless ways to get his blood anyway. As for Meteorite Biotech, he had even less control over that.
It was just a bit of blood. It wouldn’t kill him.
And research didn’t produce results overnight. Maybe by then he’d already be dead. Maybe the world would be destroyed first.
After consoling himself for a while, Yu Zhi opened a second pack of compressed biscuits.
He glanced at Fu Suxi. The man was already on his second cigarette.
Suddenly, Fu Suxi’s gaze sharpened. He strode over and pulled open the interrogation room door.
Several people stood outside. At the front was Lin Xiangyuan, hand raised mid-knock, frozen by the sudden opening.
Meeting Fu Suxi’s dark, heavy eyes, Lin Xiangyuan paused for two seconds before speaking slowly. “Minister Yu, Old Shang asked me to handle the bodies.”
Fu Suxi hummed and stepped out. After a couple of steps, he looked back at Yu Zhi. “Not hungry anymore?”
Yu Zhi paused slightly.
The next second, he felt everyone’s eyes on him—meaningful, suggestive.
“…”
Acting again, huh. Dog.
Expressionless, Yu Zhi stuffed a biscuit into his mouth and turned toward Lu Liming, who had been dozing off nearby. “Xiao Ming. Let’s go.”
Lu Liming stirred groggily, not quite processing what had happened, but instinctively followed Yu Zhi.
Lin Xiangyuan’s eyes widened.
It was one thing for Brother Yu to call over his ex. But Lu Liming actually dared to play third wheel?!
He quickly grabbed Lu Liming. “Xiao Ming, my arm’s a little injured and not fully healed. Stay and help us.”
Lu Liming glanced at them, then at the six corpses on the floor. Yawning, he said to Yu Zhi, “Brother Yu, I’ll come find you later.”
Later? Lin Xiangyuan couldn’t help pinching him.
He quickly said to Yu Zhi and Fu Suxi, “We’ll probably be busy all night. You two go ahead.”
Then he hurriedly shut the interrogation room door. Turning around, he saw Lu Liming staring at him gloomily.
“Busy all night?” Lu Liming asked. “You guys dismembering them?”
Lin Xiangyuan: “…No, I just said that for Minister Yu.”
He pulled Lu Liming aside and lowered his voice. “Don’t get involved between those two.”
“Minister Yu and the deputy are both ruthless. Their tastes are kind of twisted. When they fight, it’s all killing and blood. Just killed a bunch of people, and now they’re going to eat.”
“More importantly, do you know Minister Yu’s background? He—”
Hearing that last sentence, Lu Liming perked up slightly and cut him off. “Do you know Brother Yu’s background?”
“………”
Meanwhile, Yu Zhi followed Fu Suxi down a long corridor.
By the time Yu Zhi finished his second pack of biscuits and Fu Suxi his third cigarette, the hallway reeked of smoke.
Yu Zhi paused briefly to toss the trash into a bin, glancing subtly at Fu Suxi’s smoking profile.
Over this period, it was obvious: Fu Suxi loved smoking. If he wasn’t smoking, he was killing—people or monsters.
But this time was different. It was the first time he’d smoked this fiercely in front of Yu Zhi. One after another.
After so many cigarettes, the pitch-black depth in Fu Suxi’s eyes gradually returned to cold indifference. The sharp edge he’d had in the interrogation room faded.
Fu Suxi’s mental stability had issues. Ji had said it too—overusing his ability made him bloodthirsty. Blood helped him regain some clarity.
So cigarettes likely had a similar, albeit minor, effect.
Yu Zhi narrowed his eyes slowly.
Which raised the question.
In the interrogation room, Fu Suxi had only fired a gun.
Had he secretly used his ability too?
He’d been staring a bit too long.
Fu Suxi suddenly lifted his eyelids and looked over.
Yu Zhi instantly masked his thoughts. “Is there anywhere to eat?”
He struck first. “You’re really taking me to eat? Not planning to feed me something else?”
Fu Suxi: “…”
He glanced at Yu Zhi coolly. “Want something else?”
“My little brother’s big ability?”
Yu Zhi: “…”

Yu Zhi ignored the barrage and took two steps forward—then realized why Fu Suxi had suddenly stopped.
The combat department cafeteria was here, just around the corner.
It was large, buffet-style. Probably because the mainline Task Four had been released early this morning and another global instance mission had appeared, there were scattered ability users eating inside.
Yu Zhi scanned the room, spotted the payment counter, and asked, “Do we swipe cards here?”
Fu Suxi: “No need.”
Yu Zhi nodded, grabbed a tray, and piled two heaping scoops of fried rice onto it.
After just a few steps, his tray was stacked like a small mountain.
He picked a nearby seat. Fu Suxi sat opposite him. Several nearby ability users glanced over.
Some looked at Yu Zhi’s face, then at Fu Suxi’s. Recognizing them, they whispered to their companions and hurriedly left with their trays—as if the two of them were natural disasters.
Yu Zhi didn’t care. He picked up his chopsticks and started eating.
After finishing one plate, his body still didn’t feel physically full, as usual—but the hot food brought a psychological comfort.
He stood to get a second round.
The moment he left, a phone rang at the table.
Fu Suxi glanced around the nearly empty cafeteria and answered.
Ji Yangqiu’s voice came through. “I just checked Yu You’s blood. Nothing unusual so far. Completely normal human blood. The research department says the activity levels aren’t even as high as ordinary ability users.”
Fu Suxi responded perfunctorily. His gaze drifted to Yu Zhi piling another mountain of food onto his tray. His brow twitched.
Physically weaker than normal ability users. Yet his appetite was far bigger.
“There’s more,” Ji Yangqiu continued. “Someone’s definitely helping Yu You conceal his identity. Otherwise we wouldn’t have failed to dig anything up. What are you planning to do? Still going to kill him?”
Fu Suxi: “Not for now. He’s useful.”
Ji Yangqiu let out a small breath of relief. “I told you—doesn’t matter who he works for. If his ability’s useful, that’s enough. Look at you—”
Fu Suxi said coldly, “Hanging up.”
“Wait!” Ji Yangqiu hurried. “Something important. About the five-continent pollution source instances.”
“You saw the data, right? Asia has the most instances. We can basically confirm Meteorite Biotech’s main base is in Asia. Not sure if it’s domestic yet. They’ve got overseas branches and affiliated companies too.”
“We’ve got experience clearing pollution sources. But purification—”
He paused, tone turning grave. “Global purification progress is zero.”
“Should we try purifying them?”
After a moment of silence, Fu Suxi said slowly, “Ji Yangqiu, no matter what we do, a lot of people will die.”
“You know the fastest way to resolve conflict.”
Ji Yangqiu exhaled. “Escalate it.”
The call ended.
Ji Yangqiu stared at the dark screen for a long while, then let out a heavy breath and tossed the phone to a subordinate. “Call a meeting.”
The subordinate hurried after him. “Aren’t you going to tell Team Leader Fu that Yu You already knows about his ability and its side effects?”
“Not telling,” Ji Yangqiu snapped, irritation flaring at the thought of Fu Suxi’s temper. “Tell him my ass. He never gives me a heads-up before doing anything. Let him get screwed over by Yu You.”
“Hell, I hope he gets screwed over hard. With Yu You around, he won’t go completely insane anyway.”
Reaching the conference room, Ji Yangqiu straightened his clothes, pushed the door open, and announced bluntly:
“The combat department votes to eliminate the pollution sources.”
…………
Yu Zhi was thoroughly satisfied by this buffet.
Not physically—but mentally.
He’d tried every dish in the cafeteria. By the end, even Fu Suxi looked more pleasing to the eye.
Back at the research building’s lower fourth floor, Yu Zhi slowed when he saw Fu Suxi stop before the same door as him.
He stared at him. “This is your room?”
Fu Suxi replied lazily, “No. I’m here to steal someone.”
Yu Zhi: “…”
[User “World Cutest Girl” hopes you’ll be thoroughly stolen and tips 20 universal coins.]
