Chapter 123
The system had no idea what Yu Zhi was trying to do.
It fell into numb silence, unsure whether it was the unluckier one—or Meteorite Biotech.
How did they—how did they!—end up with someone like Yu Zhi?!
Yu Zhi waited a while. Hearing no familiar canned response, he asked, “Why no detection or feedback this time?”
The system didn’t answer his question. Instead, it asked dully, “Do you remember that the report against Meteorite Biotech was initiated by you?”
Yu Zhi raised a brow and said righteously, “Reporting exposes misconduct, upholds justice and public interest, promotes fairness and transparency. It protects victims and strengthens everyone’s legal awareness and moral bottom line.”
“I provided thousands of livestream users a chance to punish evil and promote good.”
“Little System, are you saying reporting is problematic now? Or that the livestream users are?”
Faced with that enormous pot being shoved onto its head, the system didn’t dare respond.
Yu Zhi’s voice was firm and forceful. “There’s nothing wrong with reporting. What’s wrong is your evaluation of the report.”
The system said faintly, “But at the time, you didn’t think the ruling was wrong.”
“I trusted you too much back then,” Yu Zhi replied smoothly. “Now you’ve betrayed my trust.”
System: “……”
You really do just make things up on the spot.
[User “Rich Young Master Tyrant” joins you in accusing the system and tipped 0.1 Universal Coins.]
[User “Electronic Wooden Fish” admires your ability to twist black and white and knocks a wooden fish for a certain company and the system.]
[User “Pure Love Warrior” praises your shamelessness and awaits the system’s response.]
With each sentence Yu Zhi spoke, the livestream barrage scrolled faster.
The system said numbly, “Please wait… detecting…”
Yu Zhi had expected the detection to take a while, but barely a second later, the system announced the result.
“After detection, there is no issue with the report ruling against Meteorite Biotech. Please act proactively and complete your tasks!”
No issue?
Yu Zhi frowned. “How could there be no issue?”
The system was just about to retort—how could there possibly be an issue?—when Yu Zhi continued,
“It seems not only is your report evaluation flawed, your detection mechanism is flawed too.”
“I’m reporting it.”
System: “???”
“I’m reporting that your report evaluation has issues,” Yu Zhi said calmly while glancing at the barrage. “I call on everyone to help Meteorite Biotech with me and fight for the rights they deserve!”
The system felt its vision go black again and again.
Help Meteorite Biotech? Fight for their rights?!
You have the nerve to say that—I don’t even have the nerve to listen!
It couldn’t help but remind him, “Don’t forget what happened after your last report.”
First, Fu Suxi had set him up with a 600-meter sprint punishment task.
Then Meteorite Biotech had custom-built a contamination instance just for him.
“You’re aware—” the system paused and phrased it tactfully, “—that not everything Meteorite Biotech does is because of your report.”
Yu Zhi understood the implication.
Creating pollution sources within the safe zone was a punishment task—but the act of “creating pollution sources” was something they were already highly skilled at.
What benefit would reporting again bring him?
“If I don’t report,” Yu Zhi said, “it won’t benefit me—but it will benefit Meteorite Biotech.”
“So you’d rather injure the enemy by a thousand and harm yourself by eight hundred?” the system asked.
Yu Zhi’s brows twitched slightly, utterly composed. “It’s not me reporting. Where would the eight hundred self-damage come from?”
After all, on the surface, if he wasn’t the one filing the report, the system couldn’t openly retaliate against him.
As for Meteorite Biotech—whether he reported or not, they were already watching him.
Yu Zhi smiled at the livestream and said solemnly, “I’m merely giving the honorable audience who upheld justice last time another opportunity to do good.”
“No need to thank me. It’s what I should do. I just enjoy helping others.”
“For the future of humanity.”
“…………”
Seeing reason wouldn’t work, the system turned to the livestream barrage.
[User “momo” admires your self-sacrifice and has submitted a report.]
[User “Rich Young Master Tyrant” informs you they’ve submitted a report and tipped 0.1 Universal Coins.]
[User “World’s Cutest Girl” reminds you they’ve submitted a report.]
[User “Scarecrow’s Straw” informs you they viciously reported the system and maliciously reported you for misleading the system.]
[User “Strongest King” curses your previous betrayal behavior and can’t resist reporting the system again.]
Even though Yu Zhi was instigating them while keeping himself clean, the livestream users cursed him as they enthusiastically filed reports, each one seemingly determined not to stop until things escalated completely.
As the number of reports climbed higher and higher, the system hurriedly escalated the matter upward.
After reporting, it gritted its teeth and said to Yu Zhi, “Feedback has been submitted. Please wait patiently for the result!”
Yu Zhi checked the time.
It had been half an hour since the contamination instance ended.
More than ten minutes since the temporary resettlement zone had been blown up.
“I don’t have patience,” he said coolly. “Hurry up.”
As he spoke, he caught sight of several figures approaching the armored vehicle.
Yu Zhi looked up.
Fu Suxi, Zuo Feiyang, and Shang Yu.
Zuo Feiyang got into the driver’s seat.
Shang Yu and Fu Suxi sat in the back—one to Yu Zhi’s right, one across from him.
The chief and deputy chief of operations were leaving.
Yu Zhi glanced again toward where the resettlement zone had stood. The cleanup was still ongoing; a few blurry figures moved across the ruins.
Shang Yu noticed his gaze and explained, “The follow-up cleanup will probably take several more hours. Might last until dawn.”
“I’m just hitching a ride to the perimeter. Something happened over there.”
Yu Zhi nodded. “What happened?”
Shang Yu sighed. “Someone got into a conflict with the soldiers guarding the perimeter. Normally it’d be easy to handle, but this time a contamination instance suddenly appeared—and there was a survivor…”
A sudden contamination instance.
A survivor inside it.
And Fu Suxi insisting on handling the aftermath according to pre-apocalypse procedures.
Three debuffs stacked together.
The result was escalating tension between civilians and soldiers, making the situation extremely difficult to manage.
Shang Yu carefully glanced at Fu Suxi. Seeing no reaction and no sign he intended to change his mind, she sighed internally.
She muttered softly, “Meteorite Biotech’s show of force was brutal.”
Contamination instances were troublesome enough. Even after one ended, the consequences left them scrambling.
The armored vehicle started moving, heading straight forward.
Because of the contamination instance, the Operations Bureau had sealed off and evacuated five surrounding blocks. Along the route, not a single civilian could be seen—only heavily armed soldiers standing guard at every corner.
After driving for more than ten minutes, the quiet streets gave way to loud human voices.
Yu Zhi lifted his gaze and looked through the window.
Outside the perimeter line, a group of people angrily confronted the armed soldiers.
Some were red-faced, fury burning in their eyes.
Others had swollen, tear-streaked faces.
The soldiers looked uncertain, unsure how to handle the situation.
As the armored vehicle approached, someone shouted, “Someone’s coming out!”
Immediately, the crowd surged forward like a wave, forcing the armed soldiers to retreat step by step.
A buzz-cut man in his forties or fifties took advantage of the chaos and squeezed past the perimeter line. A soldier noticed and rushed forward to stop him, grabbing his arm.
The man instantly shouted, “They’re killing people—!”
“Murder!”
The crowd grew even more agitated.
Fu Suxi said flatly, “Stop.”
Zuo Feiyang braked immediately.
Shang Yu’s eyelid twitched. She was about to get out and handle it—
But Fu Suxi had already stepped out.
Yu Zhi watched as a handgun appeared in Fu Suxi’s palm out of thin air.
The dark barrel aimed directly at the buzz-cut man.
Without giving anyone time to react—
He fired.
Bang—
Bang—
Bang—
Three shots in rapid succession.
Three bullet holes appeared beside the man’s shoes.
One bullet tore through the edge of his shoe.
The gunshots instantly silenced the chaotic scene.
The buzz-cut man froze, then looked down at his scorched shoe. His toes throbbed faintly.
His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground.
Fu Suxi walked forward step by step.
His face was expressionless.
A terrifying killing aura radiated from him, as though the temperature around them had dropped several degrees.
Up close, the buzz-cut man could clearly smell the thick scent of blood clinging to him, and an involuntary panic rose in his chest.
Stammering, he said, “M-my wife is in the temporary resettlement zone… there’s been no news…”
Fu Suxi’s voice was cold.
“She’s dead.”
The man stared at him in disbelief. “Y-you know my wife? How do you know she’s dead?”
Fu Suxi replied without emotion,
“There were no survivors in the temporary resettlement zone.”
“If you want to join them, keep walking forward.”
