Chapter 62: A Kiss, a Test, and a Surprise Bid
Gu Qinian looked at the innocent little sunflower in front of him. “You thought I was just acting out the scene with you?”
Gu Tang blinked his big eyes. “Wasn’t that it?”
Noticing how Young Master Gu’s face was gradually darkening,
Gu Tang hesitated and changed his tone. “…So it wasn’t?”
Why was Nian-Nian unhappy again?
The hopeful look in the boy’s eyes turned cautious.
Seeing that expression made Gu Qinian’s heart ache. Helplessly, he let out a sigh.
He had figured it out.
Forget Gu Tang being slow to realize things—even if Gu Tang never liked him in this lifetime, or even if he came to like someone else,
Gu Qinian still could not bear to hurt him for the sake of his own selfish desires. He could not even stand seeing Gu Tang unhappy, so how could he ever allow himself to make him cry?
Gu Qinian took a deep breath and forced himself to say, “Yes, I was just helping you rehearse.”
“Did you like it?” he asked on purpose.
“I liked it!”
That was enough.
To hear Gu Tang say a carefree “I liked it,” no matter what exactly he liked, as long as the words were said to him, that was enough.
Gu Qinian deceived himself with that thought and looked at the little sunflower, now smiling brightly again. “Which part do you want to rehearse?”
“Let me see!”
Gu Tang rubbed his hands excitedly.
Rather than liking rehearsal itself, what he really liked was playing with Young Master Gu.
“Pick a harder scene,” Gu Qinian suggested from the side.
That was exactly what Gu Tang had been thinking.
He flipped through the script document on the computer, looking for a difficult section to act out.
While he was focused on finding a scene, Young Master Gu bent down close to his ear and murmured, “Let’s do the scenes after the imprisonment.”
Gu Tang: “?”
After the Merman Immortal was imprisoned, there really was a confrontation scene with the River God.
But the problem was…
“Senior hasn’t written that part yet!”
Gu Tang pointed at the string of little ellipses at the bottom of the script.
Gu Qinian had not even looked at the script. He simply closed the laptop screen. “That’s perfect. We’ll improvise it ourselves, and later you can tell her. It might even give her some inspiration.”
Gu Tang thought that made sense and nodded obediently. “Mm-hmm!”
Gu Qinian curled his lips into a smile. “Tell me, after the River God imprisons the Merman Immortal, what do you think he’d make him do?”
Gu Tang repeated, “Make him do what?”
The boy’s lips were red and full, looking moist and glossy in the evening sunlight, unbearably tempting.
Gu Qinian licked his lips. “The River God would demand that every night, he give him a goodnight kiss.”
“???”
Gu Tang shook his head. “Nian-Nian, that doesn’t work. Goodnight kisses came from the West.”
Traditional folk tales from their own culture did not have things like that.
He wore a little expression that seemed to say, I may be innocent, but I’m not stupid.
Gu Qinian: “…”
Tsk. He really was not easy to fool.
Since all of Young Master Gu’s suggested plot ideas were unreliable, Gu Tang could only choose the scenes himself.
But Gu Tang did not feel confident in live performance, so he wished he could rehearse every major part. By the time the two of them finished practicing in the student council office, the moon was already high in the sky, and it was time to go back to the dorm to sleep.
Gu Tang could not fall asleep. Hugging his laptop, he curled up on the bed, pulled the bed curtains closed, and continued studying the script.
Every time he thought of something interesting, he sent it to Senior Ye Xiao. The more excitedly they discussed, the more engaged they became, until the other side called him, and the two of them ended up talking through voice chat.
Gu Qinian lay on the neighboring bed, leaning back and listening through the opaque bed curtain to Gu Tang chatting away inside.
He knew Gu Tang was innocently discussing the script, but that did not stop sour jealousy from bubbling up inside him.
Gu Tang stayed on that call for however long it lasted, and Gu Qinian kept drinking down jealousy the entire time.
Shrrk—
The curtain between their two beds was pulled open.
A fluffy little head poked in.
“Nian-Nian, are you asleep?”
Gu Qinian was still busy being jealous. He was very much awake.
Looking at the suddenly appearing little cutie, he gave a cold huff. “Weren’t you busy talking on the phone? What are you doing here?”
Every word came out carrying a strong sour edge.
Gu Tang quickly climbed over and squeezed himself into the narrow space between Young Master Gu and the wall, then very naturally rested his head on the other boy’s arm. “Senior sent the new script. Do you want to read it?”
He asked Do you want to read it?, but did not even bring the laptop over.
Gu Qinian understood Gu Tang too well. Glancing at him, he said, “No. Tell me about it.”
“Mm-hmm!”
Gu Tang’s eyes lit up instantly, and his little mouth began chattering away as he described the new developments in the plot.
“Senior said the Merman Immortal willingly went back with the River God because he understood him. The River God is lonely inside and often can’t sleep all night, so at the end, there really is a scene where the Merman Immortal soothes the River God to sleep.”
“Nian-Nian, you’re so amazing. You actually guessed that.”
Gu Qinian: “…”
No. He had not guessed it.
If he were the River God, then that was exactly what he would demand of the Merman Immortal.
Suddenly, Gu Tang felt something tighten around his waist. Looking down, he saw Young Master Gu’s hand had hooked around him.
He did not feel there was anything wrong with that and tilted his head up as he kept talking. “But Senior said she couldn’t think of how exactly the Merman Immortal would soothe the River God to sleep…”
“Could it really be a goodnight kiss?”
“…”
Gu Qinian narrowed his eyes at the oblivious little block of wood in front of him. “What do you think?”
Gu Tang’s mind was still immersed in the story. He shook his head and muttered, “I don’t know…”
When they were little and it was bedtime, Grandma Mei used to give each of them a goodnight kiss on the forehead.
Young Master Gu had never liked it much and always dodged when he could.
But Gu Tang loved it.
In his previous life, no family member had ever given him a goodnight kiss.
When Grandma Mei gently kissed his forehead, he felt like the happiest child in the world.
So after he grew older, he would occasionally give Young Master Gu a goodnight kiss too, though knowing the other boy did not really like it, he always stopped at the right point.
One kiss, then he ran away.
If they were sleeping together, then he did not kiss him.
So whether a goodnight kiss worked depended on the person. He liked it, but that did not mean Young Master Gu liked it, and it certainly did not mean the River God would like it.
Would it really fit into the plot?
“How about trying it?”
Seeing Gu Tang hesitate, Gu Qinian deliberately guided him. “If we rehearse it again, won’t we know whether it fits?”
“That works too.”
On a film set, if a take went wrong, you could reshoot it. But for the performance at the fair, once it was done, it was done. There would be no second chance.
No matter how many times they rehearsed, it would never be too many.
Gu Tang pushed himself upright, looked at Young Master Gu’s delicate face, and hesitated over where exactly to place the goodnight kiss.
Usually, when he gave Young Master Gu a goodnight kiss, he kissed his cheek.
But the Merman Immortal and the River God were not that familiar.
After thinking it over with pursed lips, he lifted a hand, brushed back the loose hair on Young Master Gu’s forehead, and lightly touched his lips there.
“Goodnight.”
Gu Qinian only felt two soft lips brush against his forehead like a dragonfly skimming water. The touch was gone almost before he could savor it, leaving behind only the faintest damp trace.
Too light.
Not enough.
Just as Gu Tang was about to pull away, an arm suddenly tightened around his waist.
He lost his balance and fell right back onto Young Master Gu.
In the cramped space enclosed by the bed curtains, the air suddenly became subtle.
Gu Tang inexplicably felt a little hot. Pinned down with a hand on his back, he could not sit up, so he pushed lightly at the person beneath him. “Rehearsal’s over. I want to go back and sleep now.”
“No.”
Gu Qinian’s voice was low and heavy. “Once the River God gets the goodnight kiss, he won’t let the Merman Immortal go.”
Lying on top of Young Master Gu’s chest, Gu Tang tilted his head in confusion. “Why?”
“…”
Gu Qinian said nothing, only tightened his arms more firmly around Gu Tang’s waist.
The two of them stayed like that, pressed close and staring at each other, for quite a while.
Gu Tang waited and waited, but no answer came. He let out a tiny yawn and murmured, “Then maybe there shouldn’t be a goodnight kiss.”
“After a goodnight kiss, neither the River God nor the Merman Immortal would be able to sleep.”
Gu Qinian’s breathing caught.
He knew Gu Tang did not mean it that way, but hearing him say that neither of them would be able to sleep… it was very hard not to let his thoughts wander.
After thinking for a moment, Gu Tang’s eyes curved into a smile. “How about changing it to singing instead?”
“In the legend, the Merman Immortal also sings beautifully.”
Suddenly struck by inspiration, he wriggled around, trying to get back to his own bed so he could write the idea down.
But Young Master Gu absolutely refused to let him go.
“You River God—how can you not keep your word?”
Gu Tang poked at his chest and scolded him. “You promised to let him go after soothing you to sleep!”
Gu Qinian let out a quiet laugh through his lips. “The River God was never a good person to begin with.”
Even as he said that, he finally loosened his arms.
If he kept holding him any longer, it would be a disaster if something physical happened.
Before Gu Tang noticed anything, Gu Qinian let him go and quietly took a deep breath, then changed the subject. “The DNA test with the Yu family—isn’t the result supposed to come out tomorrow?”
Gu Tang smacked his forehead. “Ah! I completely forgot…”
These past few days he had classes, end-of-term exam preparation, and work for the fair. Everything else had been tossed cleanly to the back of his mind.
Only after Young Master Gu reminded him did he suddenly remember.
Because Gu Tang cared so little about the Yu family’s matter, Gu Qinian became happy instead, the corners of his mouth curving upward despite himself.
Gu Tang lifted one finger and poked at his ticklish spot. “What are you smiling about, Nian-Nian?”
Gu Qinian was not ticklish at all. A couple of pokes did nothing to him.
But just to indulge Gu Tang, he smiled even more pleasantly. “Nothing.”
It would be best if that damned test result never came out at all.
Bzzz bzzz bzzz—
Early the next morning, Gu Tang was rudely woken up by his vibrating phone.
Without even opening his eyes, he grabbed it and answered.
From the receiver came Yu Yang’s lively, energetic voice. “Tangtang! Are you happy? Excited? The report comes out today!”
Gu Tang spoke lazily. “Oh…”
Yu Yang clicked his tongue. “Why are you so listless?”
Gu Tang finally managed to open one eye and glance at the time on his phone. “It’s only six in the morning, Brother Yang…”
Under normal circumstances, if he did not sleep until at least seven fifteen, then he was failing the dorm bed the school had kindly provided him.
Yu Yang clicked his tongue again over the phone. “You’re really calm. I was so excited I didn’t sleep all night!”
“…”
Gu Tang had heard from Yu Xiao that the test was only being done to comfort Yu Yang and Mother Yu. The Yu family’s little brother was actually already gone.
So he would not be the Yu family’s child.
The result would definitely disappoint Yu Yang.
The more excited Yu Yang was now, the more crushed he would be when he saw the report.
If things went badly, he might even have an episode…
Gu Tang immediately became nervous, and all his drowsiness vanished. “Brother Yang! Um… no matter what the result is, we have to face it calmly.”
“It’s fine!”
The man on the other end sounded extremely optimistic. “No matter what the result is, it won’t affect us becoming one family.”
Gu Tang: “???”
As he was still confused, another voice suddenly came through the speaker—
“Mad dog, you tossed around all night, and now you’re barking again this early in the morning?!”
Gu Tang: “!!!”
It was Little Uncle’s voice, much hoarser and more exhausted than usual.
And the first thing out of his mouth was him cursing Yu Yang.
Then Yu Yang completely forgot about the call, and even forgot to hang up, lowering his voice to coax Gu Lin.
The things the two of them said were enough to make a person blush.
Gu Tang listened to a couple of sentences, his face turning bright red. Afraid he might hear something he absolutely should not, he hurriedly muttered, “Blessings,” and ended the call as fast as he could.
So that was what Yu Yang had meant.
It was only six in the morning. If the two of them had not spent the night together, there was no way they would already be with each other this early…
Becoming one family really was only a matter of time!
The instant Gu Tang hung up, he lifted his eyes and met Young Master Gu’s dark, deep gaze.
Those black eyes were hard to read.
Gu Tang was startled by the look.
Only then did he suddenly realize that he was still in Young Master Gu’s bed.
Last night, while they were discussing the script, he had somehow fallen asleep. Young Master Gu had not woken him, and after sleeping through the night, it had not even felt cramped.
Of course it had not felt cramped.
More than half of his body had been sprawled over Young Master Gu, using him as a body pillow!
Having slept with Young Master Gu since childhood, this was the first time in Gu Tang’s life that sleeping together suddenly felt embarrassing.
Thinking of the clingy way Gu Lin and Yu Yang had been talking just now,
Gu Tang’s cheeks burned as if they were about to catch fire. In a weak little voice, he said, “Morning, Nian-Nian…”
“You’re not bothered by it?”
Staring at Gu Tang, Gu Qinian asked urgently.
He had heard it just now—Gu Tang had even offered blessings to the two people on the phone.
When he saw the boy lower his head without answering, Gu Qinian became anxious and reached out to grab him. “Those two… that kind of relationship, you don’t think it’s strange?”
“W-what’s strange about it?”
Gu Tang was already feeling guilty. The moment Young Master Gu grabbed him, every bit of skin that touched suddenly felt as if it had been singed by flame.
He hurriedly pulled his arm back out of the other boy’s grip.
At a moment like this, he leaned fully into sheer stubbornness.
“If two people like each other, isn’t that enough? What does gender matter so much for?”
Lifting his neck stiffly, Gu Tang poked Young Master Gu right over the heart. “Nian-Nian really is such an old-fashioned fossil.”
As soon as he said that, he jumped out of bed and ran.
Like he was fleeing for his life.
But the moment both feet hit the ground, Zhu Xu’s scream rang out as if he had seen a ghost. “Why did you jump down from his bed?!”
Zhu Xu had not done it on purpose.
Back in the day, it had been common enough to see Gu Tang climbing into Gu Qinian’s bed—but that had been when they were still kids. Once they got to high school, everyone cared more about privacy, the dorm had bed curtains installed, and every bed became its own sealed little space.
He had clearly seen Gu Tang climb into his own bed the night before, and the whole night passed without him poking his head out once. So how on earth was he coming down from Gu Qinian’s bed this morning?
Was there some secret passage or something?!!
“…”
Gu Tang had no answer.
At any other time, he would proudly have invited Zhu Xu to admire the little hidden passage between his and Young Master Gu’s beds.
But now, that curtain panel that could be pulled open somehow made him feel embarrassed.
It was all Little Uncle and Brother Yang’s fault!
Pretending he was still half-asleep, Gu Tang mumbled incoherently and ran to the bathroom. The moment he got in, he locked the door.
Only then did Zhu Xu react. “Hey! Wait! Let me go first—I really need to pee!!!”
Gu Qinian was still sitting behind the bed curtains.
Thinking about Gu Tang’s flustered expression just now, his thin lips curved into a smile.
Inside the bathroom, Gu Tang wrung out a cold towel and slapped it over his face.
He wanted to cool himself down.
But the terrible thing was, the more he covered his face, the hotter he felt.
At that moment, the system began announcing something in a drowsy tone.
Its electronic voice crackled lazily, as if it had not fully woken up yet.
[Congratulations, Host. You have completed… bzz… the hidden achievement “Ignite the Male Lead’s Hope.” Reward: 50 Life Points, Plot Coins x5. Additional reward: “Share Card x1.” Please use it properly…]
Gu Tang froze. “?”
What hope had he ignited in Young Master Gu?
“And what is a Share Card?”
Face steaming, Gu Tang asked weakly.
[Bzzz… It’s a magical item card that lets you share your rewards with someone else!]
If that was how it worked, then didn’t that mean life points could also be transferred?
Gu Tang silently took note of that and stored the Share Card away, planning to use it later if necessary.
Then he lifted his face again
and continued pressing the cold towel to it…
Inside the president’s office of Yu Group, Yu Xiao removed his gold-rimmed glasses and asked, “Has the test result come out yet?”
One of his subordinates checked the time and replied, “One more hour.”
“So slow??”
Yu Yang sat on the sofa in the lounge area nearby. “Can’t they make it come out an hour earlier?”
Yu Xiao took a deep breath and leaned back in his executive chair. “It’s already been rushed. For something like this, accuracy matters more. Wait a little longer…”
As he spoke, he suddenly seemed to remember something and straightened up sharply. “Did you bring your medicine?”
“Linlin packed it for me.”
Yu Yang patted the pocket on his chest, unable to suppress the lovestruck look on his face.
Yu Xiao: “…”
For a moment, he felt a little worried.
If Gu Tang really was their little brother, then the generational hierarchy was going to become such a mess that the Gu family might want to kill somebody.
“Big Brother, how much longer?”
“I keep worrying that something will go wrong if this drags on…”
Yu Yang’s illness had not fully stabilized yet. Once he got anxious—especially when it involved his little brother—he immediately began pacing, repeating the same restless behavior.
Yu Xiao’s heart ached seeing him like that, but he could not interrupt. Stopping repetitive behaviors might worsen the condition, so all he could do was soothe him. “Soon. Very soon…”
Ding—
Thinking it was the test report, Yu Yang rushed to Yu Xiao’s computer.
But Yu Xiao pointed outside instead. “Someone’s here.”
The subordinate went to open the door.
Yu Yang could not even be bothered with manners anymore. Irritated, he dropped himself heavily into the executive chair.
When the door opened, both brothers froze.
“…Mom?”
Yu Yang was the first to speak. Yu Xiao had already stepped forward to support their mother.
Fatigue was written plainly across Yin Ruan’s face. In a low voice, she said, “Your father’s condition isn’t good. The doctors said… we need to prepare ourselves.”
Back then, when Father Yu had rushed into the fire to save his youngest son, he had failed to escape in time and inhaled too much smoke. Though he had survived, he had remained unconscious ever since.
As the years passed and he grew older, his body’s functions had only deteriorated further.
Even with extremely expensive medicine keeping him alive, the end had finally come.
“At most, three more months…”
Yin Ruan had already been mentally prepared for her husband’s condition, but her voice still carried regret. “If we find your little brother and he still can’t see his father one last time… how heartbroken your father would be…”
“Mom!”
Yu Yang suddenly shouted at the worst possible moment.
His eyes were locked tightly on the computer screen. Only after checking it again and again did he finally cry out.
But his lips trembled so hard with excitement that he could not form a single word and could only look frantically toward his older brother.
As if sensing something, Yu Xiao strode to the computer.
The moment he saw the DNA result displayed on the screen, he took a deep breath. “Mother, there’s something I need to tell you.”
But after saying that, he too found himself unable to force out another word.
In the end, Yu Xiao simply picked up the tablet and brought it straight to his mother.
Yin Ruan had no idea what kind of news could leave both her sons—men who had weathered much greater storms—so shaken that they could not even speak clearly. She lowered her eyes to the screen.
After one single glance, her lips trembled as she asked,
“Where is he?!”
On the day of the fair, the school was as lively as New Year’s.
The morning was for warm-up activities.
Social elites and accomplished alumni, energetic students, and all the little radish-like children brought from Tang Tang Orphanage… people of every age group moved through the campus, lingering before each carefully decorated booth.
At the publicity department’s booth, Gu Tang was performing magic tricks, surrounded by little radish kids.
“I want a bunny!”
“I want a little bear!”
“I want a little tiger!”
“Everyone gets one, everyone gets one. Don’t rush, little friends. Big Brother will slowly make them all for you.”
With a quick stroke on white cardstock, Gu Tang drew the little animals the children had asked for. Then with a flick of his fingers, out popped matching plush bunny, bear, and tiger toys.
It was a little trick he had hurriedly learned from Grandma Mei. The toys had all been hidden beneath the large wooden box he was sitting on.
The children burst into cheers, and the way they looked at Gu Tang was even more worshipful than if they had been looking at Ultraman.
“Director Big Brother, I—I want a chicken drumstick!!!”
There was always one child with truly unique taste.
All the other children had gotten toys, but one little round-faced girl in puffy clothes still stood there empty-handed. When Gu Tang asked what she wanted, she unexpectedly said she wanted a chicken drumstick.
It reminded Gu Tang of his childhood playmate, Chicken-Drumstick Girl Jiang Yiyi.
After Jiang Yiyi and Jiang Yiwen went abroad, they had kept in touch with him. Now Yiyi no longer dared to eat chicken drumsticks however she pleased for fear of her figure.
She had even told him over the phone that she wanted to major in fashion design in college.
The other children nearby immediately protested on behalf of the little girl: “Ask for a small animal or something! Director Big Brother can’t make a drumstick!”
“Who said that?”
Gu Tang laughed. “Big Brother is going to make a drumstick for you to see!”
As he spoke, he sketched a fat, plump drumstick in a few lines on the paper.
Then with a flip of two fingers—a golden chicken-drumstick-shaped pillow appeared before the children’s eyes.
“Waaah—”
“Director Big Brother is amazing!!”
“He really made a chicken drumstick!!!”
The little girl hugged the chicken-drumstick pillow with both arms, rubbed her cheek against it, and then ran over and threw herself into Gu Tang’s arms. “Thank you, Director Big Brother!”
The other children saw this and all started squeezing into Gu Tang’s arms too.
Every one of them wanted Director Big Brother to hug them.
Gu Tang hurriedly soothed the little radish babies piling into his embrace.
Then, suddenly, he felt a gaze on him.
Turning around, he saw an extremely elegant lady standing not far away. She looked perhaps a little older than Shen Yiyi and was watching him with soft eyes.
“Would you like to try too?”
Gu Tang assumed she was an alumna and warmly invited her.
The woman shook her head, but her eyes stayed fixed on him.
As though she were identifying someone through him.
Gu Tang found that strange too.
He was sure this was the first time he had ever met this lady, yet he felt an inexplicable sense of closeness toward her.
And for some reason, even though she was smiling, and the smile was gentle and beautiful, a mist seemed to gather in her eyes as if she might start crying at any moment.
For no reason at all, Gu Tang’s heart suddenly hurt.
He wanted to make this lady happy again.
“How about I show you a magic trick?”
Gu Tang stepped forward and took a deck of cards from his pocket, fanning them out before her. “Please pick one.”
The lady gave a little start, then curiously lifted her hand and tapped a card.
“It’s the Queen!”
Gu Tang flipped the card over to show her.
Then he held the card between two fingers and gave it a lightning-fast turn. In an instant, the card transformed into a vivid red rose pinched between his fingers.
This kind of close-up magic was extremely difficult.
The woman had not seen at all how Gu Tang had done it. Her eyes widened in astonishment, and after a brief stunned pause, she began to clap for him.
“This is for you.”
Gu Tang handed her the rose.
Though a red rose did not feel quite right to give an elder, he had to admit a little sheepishly that he had not prepared props in other colors.
The woman seemed to read the embarrassment on his face and smiled. “That’s all right. I like red roses.”
Gu Tang smiled too. “That’s wonderful. I hope you have a lovely day.”
The woman glanced at all the little radish children gathered around him and asked, “Why do they call you Director Little Brother?”
“Oh, because I’m the honorary director of the Tang Tang Orphanage they belong to, haha.”
It was his first time introducing himself that way.
Gu Tang touched his nose in embarrassment.
The woman looked both surprised and gratified. “You really are an outstanding child.”
The praise made Gu Tang even more shy, but he still remembered to drum up donations for the kids. “This afternoon there’ll be a charity auction for the cooperation project between our school and the welfare home. If you’re interested, please come to the auditorium.”
As he spoke, he pulled a flyer for the charity auction from the booth and handed it to her.
“I’ll definitely be there.”
Her hand trembled slightly as she held the flyer. “This promotional illustration is very beautiful.”
Gu Tang smiled. “Thank you. I drew it.”
The lady looked as though she had just received several layers of surprise all at once. “Really? Then what about the original?”
Gu Tang replied, “That’s one of the auction items too.”
All the auction items were either handmade crafts from the children, works by the welfare home teachers, or donated items from teachers and students of Jiang City No. 1 High. As the director, he naturally had to contribute what he could to help raise a little more money for the children.
The woman nodded. “I understand.”
“I’m looking forward to it very much.”
After saying that, she turned and left.
Gu Tang scratched his head where he stood.
He had wanted to tell her that it would not actually be easy to win an auction item, since there were so many elite figures on site today, and surely plenty of people eager to donate.
If she liked it, he could always paint another one.
But the woman had left too quickly, so all he could do was hope the bidding would go well for her.
That afternoon’s charity auction turned out in a way Gu Tang never expected.
The moment one of his paintings appeared on the stage,
Gu Quan and Yu Xiao started furiously raising their bid paddles, no longer looking like they were participating in a charity auction but more like they were fighting over some priceless treasure.
Yu Xiao: “Tangtang’s work is absolutely mine!”
Gu Quan: “My good little cub painted it, so of course I have to take it home and hang it up!”
No matter how hard Gu Tang tried, he could not stop the two of them. “Enough, enough! That’s enough already!”
He truly did not understand.
Papa Gu, fine, that made sense. But what was Big Brother Yu going crazy for?
A painting of his with a starting bid of fifty was being driven up into the thousands just by those two!
Was this still even a charity auction?!
So for the second half of the auction, Gu Tang physically pressed down Papa Gu’s hand, while Young Master Gu held down Yu Xiao’s.
The two of them were forbidden from raising their paddles.
Still, under the crazy influence of the heads of Gu Group and Yu Group, plenty of other people who wanted ties with the two companies jumped into the bidding too, and in the end, a truly enormous sum of money was raised for the welfare home.
Then came the grand finale item—it was the very same painting of Gu Tang’s printed on the promotional flyer.
The starting bid was still fifty yuan.
This time, before either Gu Quan or Yu Xiao could call out a price, a gentle female voice spoke first: “Five million.”
Gu Tang: “?!!”
