Chapter 103: If He Became a Little Angel
Gu Tang and the system were still holding hands when they both turned toward the doorway at the same time.
They saw that His Majesty the Demon King’s face was dark and terrifying, his expression one of pure murderous intent. In his right palm, a blackish-purple flame had condensed.
The dark fire locked onto the system’s position.
The system was so frightened that it froze on the spot.
Gu Tang hurriedly cried out to stop him. “Don’t!”
“You feel sorry for him?”
The Demon King narrowed his eyes, and the fire in his palm flared even more fiercely. “Then I want to kill him even more.”
How could this weak little pretty boy, who looked like he could be slapped flying with one hand, compare to him in any way?
And yet the little angel was holding his hand and smiling so happily.
Last night he had worked so hard, and the little angel had not even smiled at him like that!
Gu Qinian was both envious and jealous, to the point that he felt the two demon horns on top of his head were glowing with a sickly green jealousy.
It was making him furious!
“Calm down. He’s just a child!”
Gu Tang tried to soothe the furious Demon King.
In his panic, the bedsheet slipped from his shoulder, exposing a body covered in faint red marks.
“!!!”
The Demon King extinguished his flames in an instant and rushed forward, wrapping Gu Tang’s body in his own cloak. “You’re not even dressed, and you dared let someone see you!”
Gu Tang shrank into the cloak and retorted with a red face, “You should think about whose fault that is.”
“…” Gu Qinian pressed his thin lips into a straight line.
He had been careless.
From now on, after cleaning the little angel’s body, he absolutely had to dress him personally.
This body was even more alluring than he had imagined.
Only he was allowed to enjoy it. No one else even had the right to look at it.
While the Demon King fell into thought, Gu Tang secretly signaled to the system with his eyes: Run!
The system had worked with its host for years and understood immediately. It quietly began backing toward the door.
“Stop.”
Gu Qinian suddenly spoke coldly.
The system’s footsteps froze, and every hair on its back stood on end.
When the Demon King wanted to kill someone, he never left any room for escape.
It was the first time it had condensed a human form in a small world. Was it really about to be written out this quickly?!
The little system was on the verge of tears.
It had not even had enough fun yet!
Then it heard the Demon King ask icily, “How old are you?”
The little system answered honestly, “J-just turned eighteen…”
Flames reappeared in the Demon King’s palm. He snorted coldly. “Since you’re already an adult, then you’re not a child.”
“You can be killed.”
System: “!!!”
If it had known, it would have made itself one or two years younger!
It really had not needed to be an adult that badly!
The little system wondered whether crying on the spot like a child might earn it mercy.
Gu Tang anxiously grabbed the demon’s arm. “Please, don’t hurt him!”
The more the little angel protected him, the more he deserved to be silenced.
Gu Qinian’s eyes were dark and unfathomable, his killing intent fully exposed.
At that critical moment,
a clear and elegant voice came from outside the door. “Your Majesty, pardon the interruption.”
“The High Priest?”
Gu Qinian recognized the visitor’s voice. He temporarily extinguished the fire and said calmly, “Come in.”
A man in luxurious black robes walked in slowly. Although his features were gorgeous and seductive, his complexion was deathly pale, completely bloodless. Even his lips were bluish-purple, and faint blue veins could be seen under the skin of his neck.
The man called the High Priest bowed slightly. “Greetings to Your Majesty and the City Lord.”
“Your Majesty instructed me to examine the City Lord’s body. Shall I begin now?”
The Demon King had only just put out his fire, but the moment he heard that, it surged up again. “He looks perfectly healthy to me.”
He could even secretly flirt with a pretty boy behind his back!
Gu Tang knew exactly what the demonic Young Master Gu was thinking, so he rolled his eyes at him.
His Nian Nian was such a jealous freak!
Except usually he only dared be secretly jealous, bottling it all up until he split into several fragment worlds.
Gu Tang truly did not feel any physical discomfort either, and he was even more afraid that if anything happened, Young Master Gu would get irrationally jealous again and chop down this innocent High Priest too.
So not getting examined was probably for the best…
Besides, Young Master Gu had washed him thoroughly inside and out last night.
Although the process had been humiliating, at least it would not cause him to develop a fever.
“Thank you, but I’m fine. There’s no need to examine me.”
Gu Tang poked his head out from inside the demon’s cloak and answered politely.
“Normally, angels have an innate rejection response toward demons. For the City Lord to be this exceptionally gifted, Your Majesty is truly blessed.”
The High Priest spoke in a faint, ghostly tone.
Hearing that, Gu Tang’s face turned bright red.
But Gu Qinian’s mood improved a little because of those words.
The Demon King secretly thought to himself: We really are meant for each other!
But he did not say it aloud.
He only rejoiced over it in private.
The High Priest seemed not to notice the very different expressions on the two of them. He opened the box in his hands. “Also, the items Your Majesty requested have been prepared.”
What items?
Gu Tang curiously leaned over to look.
Inside the box were a number of little bottles and jars in various colors. The semi-transparent material looked strangely familiar.
The High Priest kindly explained, “These are fragrant balms refined from the essences of many plants and medicinal ingredients using the secret techniques of the blood clan. They are especially suitable for lubrication and relaxing massage.”
Gu Tang: “…”
No wonder they looked familiar!
These gel-like things looked suspiciously similar to certain items in the drawer beside the bed in his bedroom!
At home, it was also Young Master Gu who was responsible for restocking those things.
They had never once run out.
All kinds of scents, every type imaginable.
Young Master Gu even liked making him try new products, saying they each had different levels of slickness…
He had never expected that even in a small world, he still had not forgotten about this sort of thing!
Gu Tang turned his head and glared at the Demon King in shame and anger.
Gu Qinian felt the slightest bit guilty and avoided the little angel’s gaze, saying to the High Priest, “Leave them.”
He was a demon.
He was not going to feel sorry for desiring the little angel.
Besides, the little angel had clearly looked very comfortable last night too. Adding some necessary aids to make intimacy more pleasurable—what was wrong with that?
“The red bottle contains a small amount of aphrodisiac ingredient…”
The High Priest was still diligently explaining the product line.
Gu Tang was scarlet in the face and muttered quietly, “We don’t need those.”
“We really don’t.”
This time, demonic Young Master Gu finally stood on the same side as him.
However, before Gu Tang could be happy for even a second, the man went on in a tone of blatant boasting, “We’re already very compatible without aphrodisiacs.”
Gu Tang: “?!!”
That was not the kind of thing he needed to tell other people!
“Is that so?”
The High Priest lifted his lips knowingly. “Then I wish the two of you a pleasant experience.”
For some reason, Gu Tang felt an extremely strong sense of pressure from this High Priest.
For a moment, he could not remember where he had felt a similar sensation before…
Just as he was wondering, the Demon King said generously, “The things are good. I’m satisfied. What reward do you want?”
“Nothing in particular…”
The High Priest turned to look at the pitiful little system hiding in the corner and doing its best to make itself invisible. “What happened to this child? Did he offend Your Majesty? Why not leave him to me?”
At that moment, the Demon King’s mind was full of thoughts about how to happily use that box of items with the little angel. He waved his hand impatiently. “Do as you like.”
Gu Tang had wanted to stop him, but then he received a look from the system.
The system quietly signaled: It’s okay.
Gu Tang glanced at the High Priest again and faintly understood.
No wonder he had felt that pressure.
The High Priest was the senior boyfriend the little system had mentioned!
In that case, there was no need to worry too much.
Gu Tang said nothing more.
“I won’t disturb Your Majesty and the City Lord any longer. I shall take my leave.”
The High Priest bowed again and left the Demon King’s sleeping chamber. Before stepping out the door, he said to the baby-faced boy, “Follow.”
The system had no choice but to obediently trail after him, carefully watching his step to avoid treading on the long hem of the High Priest’s robe.
They continued all the way to a secluded place with no one around.
“Thank you for helping me out, Senior.”
The innocent little system thanked him, then immediately tried to slip away.
It wanted to avoid the senior who insisted on being its boyfriend doing strange things to it again, like he had in the previous fragment world.
Unfortunately, before it could even take a step, it was grabbed and pinned down in the grass.
“I like this body of yours.”
The High Priest’s cool fingers stroked the boy’s cheek, and he licked his lips with excitement. “I’m very pleased with the form you took this time. It’s much better than the cat and shell from before.”
The system lowered its head and glanced at itself a few times.
Although it also liked its new appearance very much, it did not feel it was all that different from a cat or shell.
Weren’t they all just outer forms?
But clearly, the senior seemed especially interested in this current shape and even proposed a mad idea—
“How about we simply remain in this world?”
“That’s not possible!”
The system tried to talk its senior out of such a dangerous thought and reminded him, “This is only a desire fragment of the male lead.”
The High Priest’s tone remained calm. “That’s easy.”
“We just need to replace the main world with it.”
“!!!”
The system said anxiously, “B-but then… the male lead and the host won’t be able to go back!”
The High Priest shrugged indifferently. “What does that have to do with me?”
The system’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You can’t do that!”
“Oh?”
The High Priest curved his lips in amusement. “Then that depends on whether you can please me.”
In other small worlds, the system had used different forms to learn how to make its boyfriend happy.
It looked around and, seeing no one nearby, gently touched the other’s lips with its own.
Then it asked in a small voice, “…Would this work?”
Back when it had been a little cat, this trick had worked quite well.
But now it no longer seemed very effective.
The High Priest gave a dissatisfied little scoff. “Just that?”
The system clenched the hem of its clothes. “…Then what else do I have to do?”
This was its first time using a human form in a small world.
How was it supposed to please the other?
It did not know…
“Do you want to learn?”
The High Priest narrowed his eyes and spoke in a low, seductive voice. “It’s the part the main core blocked out from you.”
The system instinctively swallowed.
It was both curious and a little scared.
“I’ll teach you slowly.”
The High Priest bent down. His bloodless lips parted, revealing the two sharp fangs unique to the blood clan, and he gently pierced the delicate skin of the boy’s neck.
The system’s pupils shrank abruptly.
Then slowly widened again.
The High Priest’s figure was reflected in those dazed eyes.
Black mist rose around the blood-clan man, and from within it spread an enormous pair of bat wings that wrapped tightly around them both.
By the time the black mist dispersed, there was no trace of either of them left on the grass…
—
Inside the sleeping chamber.
The Demon King lowered his eyes, using his long lashes to hide his emotions.
Gu Tang: “…”
He was very familiar with this tea-like expression from Young Master Gu.
Back when his proposal at the Yu family had gone wrong, Young Master Gu had worn exactly this same mix of anger and grievance.
Gu Tang patted the bed beside him. “Come here.”
Although in a bad mood, the Demon King was very good at reading the situation.
Keeping his face stiff and cold, he quickly came over and sat down. Then he shifted a little closer on the big bed, wanting to snuggle against him.
Gu Tang wanted to lean closer to Young Master Gu too, but his range of movement was limited by the chain.
He tugged at the metal chain irritably. “Take this off.”
Gu Qinian had just been about to say no when the little angel dangled bait in front of him.
“If you do, then I can hug you.”
The little angel curved his eyes and gave him a sweet, adorable smile that no one could possibly resist.
Gu Qinian: “…”
With a click, he unlocked the chain.
The Demon King pursed his lips and turned away, leaving the little angel with a lonely, desolate back view.
It was so tea-like that not hugging him would have felt cruel.
Gu Tang wrapped his arms around the man’s broad shoulders from behind. “I want to talk with you.”
The Demon King lowered his gaze to the little angel’s jade-white arms, and to the kiss marks along the inside of them that had not yet faded. Then his eyes secretly flicked toward the bottles and jars the High Priest had just delivered.
In his heart, Gu Qinian thought sourly: Just talk?
What a waste!
Clearly there were many things they could do.
Unfortunately, Gu Tang really did only want to talk. “Tell me, why are you unhappy?”
Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will win every battle.
Only if he knew what was going on in demonic Young Master Gu’s head could he figure out how to wake him up.
What Gu Tang did not know, however, was that the Demon King’s head was currently full of indecent thoughts.
Only after being asked did he barely remember the reason he was upset.
“Why were you protecting that boy?”
The Demon King’s tone sounded like a child blaming a parent for being nicer to someone else than to him. “Why wouldn’t you let me kill him?”
Gu Tang almost wanted to punch him twice. “Listen to yourself!”
“You can’t just kill people!”
The Demon King truly did not understand. “I’m a demon. Killing people is perfectly natural.”
Reasoning with a demon was useless, so Gu Tang took the hardline approach instead. “If you dare have that kind of thought again, then don’t even dream of touching me.”
The Demon King froze for a moment, then turned his head away in a sulk.
Seeing that demonic Young Master Gu was not very good at arguing, Gu Tang soothingly rubbed one of his horns. “It’s not what you think…”
The Demon King emphasized, “I’m angry.”
Gu Tang: “…”
May I ask how old you are? Since when does being angry require making a formal announcement???
But his own man could only be indulged by himself.
Gu Tang sighed. “Fine. Then tell me, what will make you happy?”
Gu Qinian thought: Isn’t that easy?
In the whole world, only the little angel had the ability to make him happy.
The Demon King pressed his lips together and said nothing. Instead, he used his actions to tell the little angel exactly how he wanted to be pleased.
He yanked away the thin blanket Gu Tang had been using to cover himself.
Then he stuffed a pillow under the young man’s lower back.
Before Gu Tang could even cover his body, his legs had already been lifted high.
The posture was far too embarrassing.
Gu Tang kicked his legs in anger and humiliation. “What are you doing now for no reason?!”
“Doing what makes me happy—”
The Demon King answered very succinctly. “Invading you.”
That choice of word was especially… vivid.
Gu Qinian leaned close to Gu Tang’s ear and murmured in a low voice, “Just like when the demon realm invaded Angel City—driving straight in, snatching you from the high seat of the city lord and carrying you into my bedchamber, hiding you on my bed, locking you up, and never letting you leave me.”
Gu Tang: “…”
The Young Master Gu in this world of desire really was seriously ill.
Usually he was only tsundere.
Here, he was downright yandere!
“I almost forgot.”
Gu Qinian seemed to suddenly remember something. “The city lord really should be seated high.”
Gu Tang: “???”
Very soon, he found out exactly what the demonic Young Master Gu meant by “high.”
He was lifted up on top.
Seeing the little angel say nothing, the Demon King assumed he was very satisfied with the position.
Then he began making him ride up and down.
Earlier, Gu Tang had still been regretting that although he had the title of City Lord of Angel City, he had been unable to open his wings.
Now, however, he found himself trembling as a pair of pure white angel wings spread open behind him.
His shadow on the wall looked like that of a dying swan, shuddering all over while feathers drifted down.
One white feather spiraled slowly through the air.
The man caught it between two fingers and wound it around them, playing with it leisurely.
The demon lifted the feather to his nose and inhaled its scent, then raised a hand to stroke the pink-tinged skin of the young man. “How is a body like this supposed to keep being an angel?”
“You might as well fall into the abyss with me.”
Gu Tang bit his lip and did not dare open his mouth, afraid strange sounds would slip out.
The angel helplessly flapped his wings.
But the demon’s large hand was clasped tightly around his slim waist, leaving him unable to fly even if he wanted to.
“The way you look now is beautiful…”
The Demon King’s dark eyes were filled with obsession. With a wave of his hand, he swept aside the layers of curtains hanging on the walls.
Only then did Gu Tang realize that countless mirrors of all sizes were hanging all around the room.
In those mirrors were reflected the entwined figures of angel and demon.
Gu Tang only glanced accidentally once before his whole face turned red. He squeezed his eyes shut and never dared open them again.
Young Master Gu had truly gone insane…
He had such deep desire for him…
Their married life had always been harmonious, so how had he become this repressed?
Gu Tang could not understand it, though through his haze he could not help worrying too.
…Was it still even possible to wake him up now?
—
Gu Tang’s head hurt terribly.
In the earlier fragment worlds, once body and heart had both been handed over, Young Master Gu woke up.
But now demonic Young Master Gu seemed to have built up resistance.
No matter how many times they did it, he still would not wake up.
Gu Tang rubbed his aching waist, full of helplessness.
“Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
Lieutenant Jiang Yiwen had been ordered by the Demon King to attend to the City Lord of Angel City.
Of course, considering that the young man was the Demon King’s treasure, he could not stand too close. Only after vaguely seeing the young man rubbing his waist through the bed curtains did he dare ask.
Earlier, Gu Tang had still been wondering why he had not seen his childhood friend in this fragment world.
So this was where he had ended up.
Jiang Yiwen could not help him much, so Gu Tang only asked him for news about the system.
Jiang Yiwen answered vaguely, “As far as I know, that angel youth has already been given the Embrace by the High Priest and has become a member of the blood clan.”
Gu Tang did not understand. “What is the Embrace? Angels can become blood clan too?”
“The blood clan can use the Embrace to place a mark on their prey. He belongs to the High Priest now. Perhaps at this very moment, he’s still in the High Priest’s bed…”
Jiang Yiwen’s face reddened. He felt he should not explain any more clearly than that, so he stopped there.
“In any case, you don’t need to keep worrying about him.”
Gu Tang: “…”
That setting sounded a little twisted. But the little system had said the senior was his boyfriend…
So it should be fine, right?
Just as Gu Tang was worrying about the system, the Demon King returned to the bedchamber, still dusty from travel.
Lieutenant Jiang led the servants away and carefully shut the doors behind him, leaving the two of them alone.
Gu Tang had a new plan for waking him up.
Once the Demon King came near, Gu Tang kissed him on the lips of his own accord. “Your Majesty, why did you come back early today?”
“I missed you.”
The Demon King answered directly and deepened the kiss with the little angel.
After kissing him, he asked, “Do you love me?”
Gu Tang: “…”
Lately, demonic Young Master Gu had become very fond of asking this question, especially during intimate moments. He did not know how many times he would repeat it.
If Gu Tang got annoyed and refused to answer, keeping his lips shut, those lips would be kissed open by force.
And then the question would be asked again and again.
“Yes, I love you. I love you most.”
Gu Tang shook the chain on his wrist. “Take this off, and I’ll love you even more.”
Gu Qinian narrowed his eyes. “So you really do only love me because you have an ulterior motive.”
Gu Tang could not be bothered to play word games with him and said directly, “I want to go outside for a walk.”
“…” The Demon King hesitated.
Angels had wings, after all.
Like little birds that could fly.
What kind of person would take their pet bird outside without either chaining it up or locking it in a cage?
Wouldn’t that just be releasing it into the wild!
Gu Qinian frowned, feeling deeply insecure.
“The weather is lovely today. Ever since I came to the demon realm, you’ve kept me chained to the bed. I haven’t even seen the gardens of the Demon King’s palace.”
Gu Tang wrapped himself around the man’s arm. “Will you come with me?”
“…” The Demon King began to waver.
If a little bird capable of flying were willing to perch on his shoulder of its own accord, what a beautiful thing that would be.
Sensing that his expression had softened slightly, Gu Tang pressed harder, coaxing him. “We can stroll through the garden hand in hand, just like an ordinary couple. Wouldn’t that be nice?”
As he spoke, he shook the man’s strong arm.
“Fine.”
The Demon King could not resist the temptation and blurted out the agreement.
No one could refuse a little angel acting spoiled.
A short while later, the Demon King was indeed strolling through the garden with his soft, weak, bed-bound little favorite.
Ever since Angel City had been conquered by the demon realm,
the only people who had been allowed near Gu Tang were a handful of servants.
Everyone had assumed that the Demon King had only taken the city lord away in order to humiliate him, and that the Angel City lord would never submit beneath the Demon King.
Some rumors had even claimed the city lord was already dead.
That the Demon King had broken his wings, carved his flesh, drained his blood, and ground even his bones into dust.
Otherwise, why had no one ever been able to see him?
And yet, at this very moment,
the people not only saw a very much alive and kicking city lord, they also saw His Majesty the Demon King personally pushing him on a swing!
Perhaps he had pushed too hard,
because the city lord whimpered, “My wings hurt…”
At once, the noble Demon King bent down and carefully massaged the base of his wings.
If he rubbed too hard, the city lord pouted. If he rubbed too lightly, the city lord said it tickled.
Only when the pressure was exactly right and the city lord felt better did he tilt his head up and reward the Demon King with a little kiss.
The demon realm citizens: Are we the ones who’ve gone mad, or are they?!
Having the wings rubbed felt wonderful, but the extra chain around his wrist still annoyed Gu Tang.
He raised his hand and shook it. “Why am I still chained up?”
They had agreed to go for a walk in the garden, yet he was still locked to him.
Only, the chain was much shorter and lighter now, one end fastened to him and the other to Young Master Gu’s wrist.
“If you don’t like it, then we can go back.”
The Demon King still did not dare loosen his hold completely.
The little angel’s wings had recovered very nicely, and although that made Gu Qinian happy, the moment he thought of the other simply flapping those wings and leaving him far behind, his heart sank all over again.
Gu Tang knew this was about as much compromise as he could manage for now, so he relented. “Fine. This is okay too.”
He laid his hand over the man’s and slid his fingers into the gaps between his.
Their fingers intertwined.
The lonely Demon King had never held hands with someone like this before, and his lips could not help curling upward.
Watching the changes in his expression, Gu Tang thought: This time I’ll definitely get you.
“These flowers are so pretty.”
The little angel pointed to a small pink blossom.
Without thinking, Gu Qinian picked the flower and offered it to him.
Gu Tang took it and sniffed it, then tucked the lovely pink flower beside Young Master Gu’s ear.
Set between the Demon King’s black horns and his cold pale ear was a small pink bloom.
On anyone else, it would probably have looked ridiculous.
But style depended mostly on the face.
With Young Master Gu’s exceptional features paired with that brilliant flower, the result was unexpectedly beautiful.
“Nian Nian is so handsome.”
Gu Tang could not help praising him.
The Demon King froze. “What did you just call me?”
“Nian Nian.”
Gu Tang curved his eyes. “It sounds nice, doesn’t it?”
He had thought it through.
Since all the previous methods had failed to wake demonic Young Master Gu,
he had to try something new—such as calling him by the affectionate name he always used, letting Young Master Gu gradually remember the original world through constant exposure.
A doubled pet name was something only very intimate people used.
Coming from the little angel’s soft voice, those two syllables carried an inexplicable warmth and happiness.
Gu Qinian turned his head aside. “It’s fine.”
Gu Tang laughed and poked him once. “You awkward thing.”
Young Master Gu had always been the type to say no when he meant yes.
If he said it was fine, then that meant he liked it very much.
Suddenly, Gu Tang thought that this whole “Demon King Nian Nian” roleplay was actually kind of fun.
In this fragment world, Young Master Gu could vent some of his repressed desires, and Gu Tang also got to see a different side of him than usual.
He hooked a finger into the man’s sleeve. “So now… are you happy?”
The Demon King’s ears gradually turned red. After a long while, he finally let out a low, “Mm.”
Gu Tang slipped his fingers into the man’s sleeve and mischievously traced circles where the chain was fastened. “Undo my lock, and tonight I’ll make you even happier.”
