Waiting for a Breakup Every Day – CH67

An Accident

Chapter 67: An Accident

Wang Wan’er was sentenced to only three years. That woman had wanted to kill him—hiring someone to commit murder and only getting three years? Jiang Yu was furious about it.

When Han Cheng came to see him that night, Jiang Yu casually brought it up.

Han Cheng leaned over and planted a loud kiss on Jiang Yu’s cheek, smiling as he explained, “No way around it—the Wang family offered too much. They gave me a portion of shares in their daily chemical group.

“I now hold ten percent of Ruojun Daily Chemicals, and I’ve given three percent to you. From now on, all you have to do is lie back and collect money.”

“Ruojun Daily Chemicals?!” Jiang Yu’s eyes instantly widened like copper bells. Was it the Ruojun Daily Chemicals that dominated seventy percent of the national market?

Han Cheng pinched Jiang Yu’s nose and laughed. “Yes, the one you’re thinking of. Three percent of the shares—doing nothing all year, you can still collect around a hundred million. That’s their compensation and apology to you on Wang Wan’er’s behalf.”

“One hundred million! That much? I like this compensation.” Suddenly rich, Jiang Yu’s eyes shone brighter than light bulbs.

“Mm. You’re a rich man now—you can do whatever you want. But don’t even think about running away again. Otherwise, I’ll take your shares back. Even if you run to the ends of the earth, I’ll drag you back.”

“You’ve already given them to me—can you really take them back?”

“I only gave you the money equivalent to three percent of the shares. The shares themselves are still in my hands. If you leave me, you won’t get this money.”

“Heh.” Jiang Yu instantly wilted. Old fox.

Han Cheng smugly stole another kiss and continued, “The person who snuck into your bedroom to stash the drugs was sent by Wang Wan’er. Following that lead, I uncovered quite a lot.

Our country is extremely strict about drugs. Their family was already dirty to begin with, and they were even more afraid of me pursuing the matter, so they cut off a huge chunk of flesh to compensate me.

I checked into it. While you were in prison, that older man really did hate drug dealers—his son was lured into taking drugs and ruined by it. You were just unlucky to be locked up with him.

Fortunately, I arranged for Meng Zhao to be by your side in advance. Otherwise, you really would’ve been in danger.

As for the three people who tried to bully you later—they were the ones Wang Wan’er had sent in. Those three have already been silenced by the Wang family, so now we can only prosecute Wang Wan’er for using bribes to pursue a personal vendetta and bribing officials to deny treatment for your waist injury.

But don’t worry. However she treated you, I’ll make sure she experiences the same thing in prison.”

“You bribed people too? Won’t that be investigated? That’s illegal. Can you follow the law a little better?”

“I am a law-abiding citizen, okay? Don’t worry—I’m not as stupid as she was. Relying on her family’s power, she directly shoved money at people and forced them to do things. If they didn’t take it, she’d threaten them. If she hadn’t been so arrogant, the people she bribed wouldn’t have turned around and reported her.”

Jiang Yu looked at Han Cheng sideways, not believing for a second that Han Cheng was a law-abiding citizen. Han Cheng got embarrassed and angry, and went back to pinching Jiang Yu’s bony cheeks.

Jiang Yu hurriedly changed the subject. “You took so many shares from the Wang family—won’t they retaliate?”

“There are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests. That saying is absolutely true.

Before, the Wang family was run by Wang Wan’er’s branch, but there are plenty of ambitious people in that family. I simply cooperated with the current decision-makers of the Wang family. Wang Wan’er’s branch was brought down by their own people.

Now that Wang Wan’er, her father, and her grandfather are all in prison, the Wang family has changed hands. We’re working together quite well.”

“Then what about the Wei family and the Zhuang family? Are they still going after you? I saw on the trending searches that your family is getting engaged here and making announcements there. Did you force your family members into political marriages? What era is this—you’re still using methods like that?”

Methods don’t matter—if they work, they’re good methods. Besides, I didn’t force anyone. I paid enough, and they were all very happy.

It’s just a form of cooperation. Even if they get married, they can still each play around however they like—it doesn’t stop them from pursuing true love.”

“That’s called being unfaithful to marriage,” Jiang Yu said with a disdainful curl of his lips. Rich people really knew how to play.

“Life is only a few short decades—of course you should live however makes you happiest.”

“Then what about you? If one day you also have to enter a political marriage, would you be unfaithful to it too, each of you doing your own thing?”

“I won’t enter a political marriage. No one can force me to. I have the final say in the Han family now. I’ll only marry the person I love, and I’ll be loyal to my marriage.”

“So you’ll get married, then?”

“There are plenty of countries that allow men to marry men. Don’t even think about running away.”

“…”

Jiang Yu stayed in the hospital for a full three months. Lying around so long, he felt like his whole body had rusted.

After a comprehensive checkup, Doctor Zhang finally allowed Jiang Yu to be discharged, but warned him not to engage in any strenuous activity.

This time he was lucky—no nerves had been damaged. If his lower back were injured again and the nerves were compressed, it could be irreversible.

Jiang Yu nodded furiously, committing Doctor Zhang’s words to heart. He didn’t want to spend another three months like this. Glancing back at Han Cheng, he thought that the biggest danger around him was Han Cheng himself.

Han Cheng flicked Jiang Yu on the back of the head, dissatisfied. “What are you looking at me for? As long as you don’t make me angry, your back will be fine.”

Rubbing the back of his head, Jiang Yu rolled his eyes. That bastard was moody and got angry for no reason all the time—was that something Jiang Yu could control?

After three months in the hospital, there was a lot of luggage. Han Cheng, Wang Huan, Meng Zhao, and Aunt Chen were all carrying big and small bags as they headed out. Only Jiang Yu was stopped by Han Cheng from carrying anything, walking empty-handed among the four of them. He really looked like a pampered young master being waited on.

Both Jiang Yu and Han Cheng were public figures, so plenty of people took photos along the way. Feeling embarrassed, Jiang Yu broke into a small run and rushed outside.

“Don’t run!” Han Cheng shouted anxiously from behind. This cursed kid—his back had just healed and he was already running.

Jiang Yu ran out of the hospital. There were too many cars outside, and his car was parked across the street.

He ran out just as the light turned green. Without stopping, he dashed onto the crosswalk. Suddenly, though, he heard the roar of an engine rapidly approaching.

Turning toward the sound, Jiang Yu saw an SUV running a red light, probably going around 120 kilometers per hour. Like an enraged bull, it charged straight at him.

Every hair on Jiang Yu’s body stood on end. Staring at the rapidly approaching SUV, he froze in overwhelming terror, his legs so weak he couldn’t run at all.

“Watch out!” Han Cheng’s voice from behind was filled with panic. Jiang Yu felt a tremendous force strike his back, sending him flying forward. He hit the ground, rolled several times, and tumbled all the way to the other side of the road.

When he turned back, he saw Han Cheng crashing to the ground along with the luggage. Han Cheng rolled a few times and then lay still. Jiang Yu watched in horror as a dark red pool of blood slowly seeped out from beneath Han Cheng.

“Han Cheng!”

Panic, fear, despair—every negative emotion surged into his mind in an instant. Jiang Yu scrambled to his feet and rushed to Han Cheng’s side.

Han Cheng’s eyes were closed, and the strong smell of blood assaulted all of Jiang Yu’s senses.

“He can’t die. He can’t die. He can’t die.” Jiang Yu’s mind went completely blank, filled with nothing but the thought that Han Cheng must not die.

Thankfully, the hospital was right next door. Jiang Yu tried to lift Han Cheng to carry him inside.

Meng Zhao and Wang Huan had already caught up. Meng Zhao stopped Jiang Yu. “Don’t move him. It could be internal bleeding. Don’t touch him. I’ll go get the doctors. You stay here and don’t move him.”

Dropping the luggage, Meng Zhao ran off. The green light at the intersection had already turned red. Cars waiting at the light drove around Han Cheng and slowly left.

No one stopped to help. No one wanted to get involved in something like this.

Watching the cars pass by, Jiang Yu was suddenly overwhelmed by a boundless sense of helplessness.

Clutching Han Cheng’s hand, Jiang Yu couldn’t stop his tears. Crying and shouting, he called out, “Han Cheng, you can’t die. If you wake up, I’ll marry you, okay? Don’t die. Don’t leave me.”

At that moment, Jiang Yu didn’t want to think about anything else. He didn’t want to wonder whether Han Cheng truly loved him, or whether Han Cheng had kept him around as a shield by not letting him leave. He only wanted to be true to his own heart.

He loved Han Cheng. He didn’t want to leave him. He didn’t want to keep guessing whether the man who had risked his life to save him truly loved him or not.
