Chapter 23: Go Ask Meng Yi
Jiang Yu was startled and wanted to help them up. At that moment, Tao Ran was yanked down by his father and forced to kneel as well. Ignoring Tao Ran’s injured leg, his father pressed his head down, making him kowtow heavily to Jiang Yu again and again, begging Jiang Yu to spare them and give Tao Ran another chance to return to school.
Jiang Yu was bewildered and anxious, but could only say from the bed, “Please don’t get so worked up—let’s all stand up and talk first. What exactly is going on? Who’s stopping you from going to school?”
Jiang Yu got too worked up and pulled his back again. He sucked in a sharp breath and lay back down on the bed. Han Cheng hurried over to help him, and Jiang Yu glared at him and asked, “What exactly is going on?”
Han Cheng sighed and explained shamelessly, “I didn’t do anything, really. I just broke one leg each for the two of them and then let them go. At most, I notified their schools about what they did.
Not treating their legs was their parents’ decision. Being expelled was the school’s decision. It has nothing to do with me.”
Jiang Yu curled his lips into a cold smile, his stare at Han Cheng clearly saying: Do you think I’d believe that?
Looking at the two big kids lying facedown on the floor, completely silent, Jiang Yu sighed helplessly.
He didn’t regret letting Han Cheng break their legs. After all, his own lumbar spine had been cracked from being kicked. He wasn’t a magnanimous person—if someone hurt him and he had the ability, he would definitely retaliate.
But he had never intended to ruin the rest of these two kids’ lives. Since each of them had already lost a leg, he considered them even.
Jiang Yu wanted to persuade Han Cheng to let these two—who could still be considered adolescents—off the hook. Then suddenly an idea struck him. He looked at Han Cheng and said, “They ambushed me because of Meng Yi. Why don’t we take them to see Meng Yi?
“Let them see what kind of person the one they fought so hard for really is. If they can find out why Meng Yi framed me, then that’ll count as making up for their crime. Let them go.”
Han Cheng frowned slightly and looked at Jiang Yu. “You know Meng Yi is here too?”
“I also know he’s in Ward 501.” Seeing that Han Cheng was thinking about transferring Meng Yi to another hospital, Jiang Yu grabbed the sleeve of Han Cheng’s jacket. With outsiders present, even his coquettishness was subtle. “President Han, don’t transfer Meng Yi. Once I’ve recovered, I want to go ask him personally why he targeted me.
If I don’t figure out the reason, I’ll probably spend the rest of my life thinking about it—confused, unable to eat or sleep. Just thinking about it makes me feel awful.”
Jiang Yu tugged lightly on Han Cheng’s sleeve twice before letting go. Tilting his head, he looked at the six people on the floor and said with a smile, “If you can help me find out the reason, I’ll be very grateful. We’ll wipe the slate clean. As long as you don’t provoke me in the future, I won’t come after you later either.”
“No problem. We’ll definitely find out why that Meng Yi wanted to harm you,” Tao Ran’s father swore solemnly, then asked in confusion, “But how did this Meng Yi harm you? Which incident are we supposed to ask about?”
“When you get there, just ask him why he wanted to hurt me. He’ll understand. If you can get the answer, you’ll know what kind of person he really is—and whether he’s worth hurting others for.”
Jiang Yu glanced at the two kids. He only saw Wang Qianqian’s shoulders tremble slightly. Tao Ran lay on the ground like a marionette, completely motionless.
Jiang Yu frowned faintly. Had Han Cheng disciplined these two kids a little too thoroughly?
He turned to look at Han Cheng, only to find Han Cheng staring at the hand Jiang Yu had just used to tug his sleeve.
What was this bastard thinking? Was he disliking him?
Jiang Yu immediately pulled his hand back under the blanket and asked coolly, “President Han, what do you think of my suggestion?”
Unable to see the hand anymore, Han Cheng lifted his gaze to Jiang Yu and smiled slightly. “You’re the one who was hurt. We’ll do whatever you say. I’ll take them to see Meng Yi right now.”
