Transmigrated to the Beastman World as a Veterinarian – CH94

Check Up

After the Beast Festival, Jian Mo reopened his clinic.

This time, he made sure to wear his mask securely—not only for hygiene and safety but also to hide his expressions.

Some cases truly tested his composure, and he feared he might burst out laughing.

Generally, the locals were fine. Though some indulged in rather bold activities, these were usually private moments between couples and didn’t pose significant risks of cross-infection.

From what Jian Mo observed, it wasn’t all that bad.

When the rush of patients tapered off, and the crowd seeking group check-ups finally dispersed, Jian Mo turned to Wu Jiong. “I’d like to visit the Meng Shui Tribe.”

Wu Jiong asked, “The reckless beastman from their tribe hasn’t come back to see you, has he?”

Jian Mo shook his head. “No, he hasn’t. But I do need to follow up with him. More importantly, I want to check on Xing Yuan. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him, and I’d like to know how he’s been settling in at the Meng Shui Tribe.”

After all, Xing Yuan was the young beastman they had rescued, and Jian Mo still cared deeply about his well-being.

Wu Jiong nodded. “I have to lead a hunting team tomorrow. How about the day after?”

Jian Mo readily agreed. “Perfect. That’ll give me time to restock my medicines and sterilize the equipment.”

As word of Jian Mo’s visit to the Meng Shui Tribe spread, several people discreetly approached him.

Zhou Fu and a few sub-beastmen pulled him aside into a house, their expressions conspiratorial.

Jian Mo looked at them curiously. “What’s going on?”

Zhou Fu’s eyes sparkled. “You’re going to the Meng Shui Tribe, right?”

Jian Mo nodded. “Yes, why?”

Zhou Fu pulled out a roll of fabric from a basket. “Can you help us trade for some balm while you’re there?”

Another sub-beastman chimed in softly, “We used up most of our balm during the Beast Festival.”

Jian Mo eyed their offerings and remembered the surprising variety of balm recipes he had inadvertently gathered while treating patients from various tribes in recent days.

The Meng Shui Tribe’s balms were… unique, to say the least.

Zhou Fu noticed Jian Mo’s silence and asked hesitantly, “What’s wrong? Is it not possible?”

Jian Mo deliberated before responding, “I was just thinking that maybe it would be better if our tribe made its own balm.”

Zhou Fu’s face lit up. “You can make balm?!”

Jian Mo admitted, “I couldn’t before, but I’ve learned recently. The only thing is I’ll need some time to actually make it.”

Zhou Fu and the others eagerly shoved their fabric into Jian Mo’s hands.

“No rush! Take your time, we’ll wait.”
“If you can make it, things will be much easier for us.”
“We just wanted to stock up on a bit more balm after the festival.”

Jian Mo returned the fabric to them, insisting they wait until the balm was ready before trading.

Zhou Fu and the group didn’t mind—they were simply thrilled at the prospect of Jian Mo making balm for their tribe.

Jian Mo was very familiar with the Meng Shui Tribe by now and felt at ease heading there.

They departed early in the morning, and by the time Chirpy landed near the Meng Shui Tribe, the sun had just risen.

Yun Long came to greet them personally. “What brings you here?”

Jian Mo smiled. “I wanted to check on Xing Yuan and see how he’s doing. Also, I’d like to give him a follow-up examination.”

Yun Long beamed. “Thank you for your hard work. I’ll take you to him.”

They followed Yun Long to Xing Yuan’s new home.

The young beastman had shifted into his human form to greet them. He seemed livelier than before, his eyes shy but no longer fearful or anxious.

When he saw Jian Mo and Wu Jiong, he timidly said, “Doctor Jian Mo, Chief Wu Jiong.”

Jian Mo patted his little head. “I’m here to check on you. Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

Xing Yuan shook his head so vigorously he looked like a bobblehead. Jian Mo chuckled and pulled out his stethoscope. “May I still take a look?”

Xing Yuan nodded obediently.

Jian Mo listened to his heartbeat and abdominal sounds, carefully examined the areas where his skin had once been ulcerated, and found everything in excellent condition.

It seemed his adoptive fathers had taken very good care of him. His skin and nails were healthy and shiny, a clear sign that he was thriving and living a normal life.

After the check-up, Jian Mo reassured Xing Yuan’s fathers, telling them he was recovering beautifully and only needed continued nutrition and rest.

Before leaving, Jian Mo couldn’t resist patting Xing Yuan’s fuzzy head again. His hair was short and fluffy, making it irresistible to touch.

Outside the house, Jian Mo turned to Yun Long. “I’d like to see Qi Xia. Where does he live?”

Yun Long asked, “Qi Xia? What’s wrong with him?”

Jian Mo waved it off. “Nothing serious. I just have a medical matter to discuss with him. Is he available?”

Yun Long nodded. “Sure, follow me.”

They headed to Qi Xia’s place, catching him just as he was preparing to join a hunting party. The moment he saw them, his expression froze.

“D-Doctor Jian Mo, Chief Wu Jiong, uh… Chief!” he stammered, greeting them one by one.

Jian Mo, his mask firmly in place, said, “I need to discuss a medical matter with you. Can we talk privately?”

Qi Xia’s ears turned a deep shade of red. “Of course! Inside, please.”

With stiff, almost comical movements, Qi Xia led them into his home.

Yun Long glanced at Wu Jiong, who stayed outside with him, and said with a smile, “I’m really curious about what medical issue Doctor Jian Mo is asking about.”

Wu Jiong replied calmly, “You can ask Qi Xia about it later.”

Yun Long chuckled. “But if Jian Mo specifically said he wanted a private conversation, wouldn’t asking ruin the fun?”

Wu Jiong’s response was curt. “It’s nothing serious.”

Seeing Wu Jiong’s demeanor, Yun Long gave up probing further. “If it were something serious, they wouldn’t dare keep it from me. But I have to say, Doctor Jian Mo is really trusted by everyone.”

Wu Jiong said matter-of-factly, “He deserves it.”

His tone made it clear the conversation was over. Yun Long, despite his usual conversational prowess, had no choice but to fall silent and wait alongside him. Feeling idle, he resorted to watching the drifting clouds rather than continuing the dialogue.

Inside, Jian Mo wasn’t asking anything dramatic—he simply inquired about the beastman who had soaked his lower body in moss. “Is he doing better?”

Qi Xia nodded vigorously. “He’s fine now.”

Jian Mo instructed him to pass along a message: “Have him keep an eye on things for a while. If anything feels off, he should come to the He’an Tribe immediately for a check-up. This isn’t something to take lightly—it could affect his long-term well-being.”

Qi Xia nodded so fast it seemed his neck might snap. He didn’t dare utter a word more.

Having delivered his instructions, Jian Mo said goodbye and left the room. Qi Xia, looking immensely relieved, bolted off like a rabbit, murmuring something about needing to hunt until sunset.

Watching him disappear, Jian Mo sighed, took off his mask, and tucked it away. “Wearing this thing for so long feels suffocating.”

Yun Long turned to them. “Not in a rush to head back, are you? How about coming to my place for some tea?”

Yun Long had picked up the habit of tea drinking from the He’an Tribe.

Jian Mo shook his head. “Thanks, but I’ll pass. It’s been hectic lately, and if we return early, we can get more done before nightfall.”

Yun Long smiled warmly. “You’ve worked hard making this trip. Thank you.”

Jian Mo waved it off. “It’s no trouble. If I didn’t come, this issue would’ve kept nagging at me.”

As they chatted, someone called out from behind, “Doctor Jian Mo!”

The voice was unfamiliar. Jian Mo turned to see a beastman running toward them.

This beastman had slightly dark skin and a well-defined face. Upon reaching them, he greeted everyone in one breath, “Doctor Jian Mo, Chief Yun Long, Chief Wu Jiong—”

Jian Mo nodded. “What’s the matter?”

The beastman, introducing himself as Shao Yuan of the Zheng Chi Tribe, explained, “I’m here to trade supplies and heard you were in the area. My mate is pregnant—just a few months along—and I’d like you to check on him.”

Jian Mo’s face lit up. “Congratulations!”

Shao Yuan grinned sheepishly. “Thank you. You mentioned before how important it is to have regular check-ups during pregnancy, so we thought we’d ask you to take a look.”

Pregnancy was rare among sub-beastmen, and this was Jian Mo’s first time encountering a pregnant patient. He glanced at Wu Jiong and Yun Long for their opinions.

Wu Jiong nodded his approval, and Yun Long, ever the gracious host, said, “Let’s head to my house for the check-up. We can share some food as well.”

This time, Jian Mo didn’t refuse. “Thank you for your hospitality.”

Yun Long chuckled. “It’s our pleasure. We could all use some good news.”

Shao Yuan shifted into his beast form and carefully carried his mate, Ning Wo, to Yun Long’s house.

Ning Wo, cheerful and outgoing, greeted them with a smile. “It’s really nothing serious—Shao Yuan’s just overly nervous.”

Jian Mo reassured him, “It’s good to be cautious. It shows Shao Yuan is a responsible mate.”

Ning Wo glanced at Shao Yuan, their interaction radiating warmth and affection.

Jian Mo asked Wu Jiong and Yun Long to step outside while he conducted the examination.

Ning Wo was just over a month into his pregnancy. Using a stethoscope, Jian Mo was able to detect the fetal heartbeat.

Sub-beastmen typically had slower heart rates, around forty beats per minute. In contrast, the fetal heartbeat was brisk at approximately one hundred beats per minute.

While Jian Mo lacked in-depth knowledge about sub-beastmen pregnancies, both Ning Wo and the baby seemed healthy. Ning Wo’s rosy complexion, smooth hair, and shiny nails were further evidence of his well-being.

After completing the examination, Jian Mo advised them to maintain a balanced diet and ensure plenty of rest.

Ning Wo and Shao Yuan happily agreed, their joy palpable.

After the visit, Jian Mo and Wu Jiong called Chirpy and flew back to the He’an Tribe.

During the flight, Jian Mo turned to Wu Jiong with a question. “Do sub-beastmen typically give birth in six or seven months?”

Wu Jiong nodded. “Around that, though it varies slightly depending on the species.”

The local calendar months were much longer than Earth’s. Jian Mo mentally calculated and realized it wasn’t too different from human gestation periods.

“What about when they give birth?” Jian Mo asked. “Are the babies born in human form or beast form?”

Wu Jiong replied, “They’re born in beast form. They need time to grow before they can shift into human form. I’m not too familiar with the specifics—maybe Qing Kuo would know more.”

Jian Mo nodded thoughtfully. “Do complications like difficult labor happen often?”

Wu Jiong looked at him with some concern. “Occasionally, but it’s not common. Are you worried?”

Jian Mo shook his head. “Not exactly. I was just thinking, if complications arise, wouldn’t it be helpful to have forceps ready in advance? Complex tools like that take time to prepare, and having them on hand could save lives.”

“Forceps?” Wu Jiong asked.

Jian Mo gestured with his hands to illustrate. “They’re used in cases of difficult labor to carefully guide the baby out of the birth canal. They’re gentler and less invasive than using hands, reducing risk for both the parent and the baby.”

Wu Jiong nodded as understanding dawned. “That does sound useful.”

Jian Mo smiled. “I’ll look into it over the next few days and see if we can prepare a set.”

Jian Mo, after graduating, returns to his small hometown and opens an animal clinic. One night, while he's asleep, he hears a persistent thumping noise on the roof. Assuming it's just a rat, he steps outside with a can of food to lure in a friendly, easily tricked, beautiful kitten. The kitten is indeed stunning, but while Jian Mo is happily hugging and cuddling it, the kitten looks utterly confused. Suddenly, a booming voice interrupts him. Turning around, Jian Mo is startled to find an enormous cat, much larger than himself, standing right behind him. The giant cat glares at Jian Mo with a raspy voice: "Let go of my brother!" Now it's Jian Mo's turn to be confused. As he looks up, he realizes the park, city streets, and cars around him have transformed into forests, snowy mountains, grasslands, and tribal settlements. —He has crossed into a world of beastmen! The only silver lining? He's a veterinarian, so at least his skills are somewhat relevant. Treating animals to treating beastmen... well, with some effort, it’s not entirely impossible. Extra Snippet: One day, Jian Mo and his partner Wu Jiong head out to gather supplies. As they enter the forest, they hear a series of faint, rustling noises. Peeking through the gaps between the leaves, they see a group of fluffy little creatures huddled in a circle, seemingly "complaining" about him. A chubby chick sulks: "Doctor Jian Mo said I overate and have indigestion, so I have to starve for a whole day. Chirp chirp." A little snow leopard with tearful eyes: "Doctor Jian Mo said I have cavities, so I can't eat honey anymore. Waaa." A small beaver sniffles: "Doctor Jian Mo confiscated all my hidden snacks, saying they'd make me sick. I never want to visit his clinic again. Boohoo." A little Pallas's cat glances at its companions and softly squeaks, "But... when I get treated, Doctor Jian Mo always hugs me." The fluffy critters fall silent, lost in thought about Jian Mo. Behind the trees, riding on the back of his partner who has transformed into a giant wolf, Jian Mo listens to the whole conversation: "..." The giant wolf turns to gently lick Jian Mo's newly grown beast ears. "The little ones all came to ask me to put in a good word for them." Blushing from the lick, Jian Mo pushes away the fluffy wolf head, "Pleading won’t help; at most, I'll give them some extra treats to comfort them. And you—stop licking my ears!"
