Chapter 20: Identity Cards
All identity cards were processed in the registration office.
Elder Xuan Yi was responsible for testing, Elder Xuan Er handled registration, Elder Xuan San took photos, Elder Xuan Si produced the cards, and Elder Xuan Wu stood by to check for any omissions.
As for the dean, he was in charge of sitting there, drinking tea, and watching everyone else work.
The identity card was very similar to an ID card on Earth. On the front left was a headshot of the student; on the right were personal details such as name, date of birth, physique attribute, enrollment date, and contracted soul pets.
The back displayed a picture of the academy’s Longevity Turtle Pond, along with an embossed academy name and the Black Tortoise totem.
Soul pets had similar identity cards, except they required more photos: a headshot, full-body front view, full-body back view, full-body left side, and full-body right side.
Si Er’s photo session was simple—done in one second.
He was used to these kinds of photos from school days: hair couldn’t cover the eyebrows or ears, no makeup, no strange outfits, and so on.
His face could handle any requirement without fear.
Guagua wasn’t afraid either. When not fighting, it was just an ultra-cute little white rabbit. No matter how you photographed it, it looked adorable.
Cuicui was even less worried. Aside from the headshot, its other four photos looked exactly the same. Elder Xuan Si even hesitated over whether it was necessary to include them all.
As for Benben…
It wasn’t afraid of photos—but Elder Xuan San, who was taking them, definitely was.
Because Benben had its own aesthetic standards!
When taking the headshot, it stubbornly insisted on a tilted-head pose with a wink.
It was undeniably cute—but it didn’t meet the official ID headshot requirements!
Elder Xuan San explained the rules again and again. Each time, Benben understood—but still tilted its head. Elder Xuan San grew so frustrated he nearly wanted to twist its head straight himself.
“Si Er, I have faster and smarter mount-type soul pets. How about we slaughter this one and replace it?”
“No, no, no!” Si Er waved his hands quickly.
This is the mount I picked through a race! If it gets killed now, wouldn’t my effort back then be wasted?
I used every ounce of strength I had—even my strength!
Strength that’s already been spent must never be wasted, or I’d be at a loss!
“Elder Xuan San, it just wants one tilted-head wink photo. Once you take it, it’ll behave.”
“If it keeps misbehaving, I’ll pluck all the feathers on its head and make it a bald bird!”
Elder Xuan San: “……”
What benefit would a bald bird bring him? It would only hurt his eyes.
Fine. Elder Xuan San considered himself broad-minded. Suppressing both his disdain and regret, he took a tilted-head winking headshot.
Satisfied, Benben stopped fussing. The remaining photos were completed in seconds.
Elder Xuan San felt an itch in his hands. What a pity—Si Er actually liked such a disobedient ostrich.
If Si Er didn’t like it, he could immediately slaughter this tasteless bird and replace it with a prettier mount.
He thought the newly arrived Azure Wave Turtle in the Hundred Beasts Garden was excellent—entirely emerald green, as clear and beautiful as jade, and amphibious.
Though slower, its back was much broader than this ostrich’s, allowing Si Er to lie down comfortably.
The Flame-Wind Ostrich’s fiery red tail feathers were beautiful, but its thin head, thin neck, and thin legs paired with a heavy, weight-like body made it look terribly uncoordinated.
Elder Xuan San, who adored reptiles, simply couldn’t appreciate the beauty of a Flame-Wind Ostrich. After finishing the photos, he turned away to admire his beloved turtle and refused to look at Benben again.
Elder Xuan Si processed the cards quickly. Soon, Si Er received four identity cards.
The soul pets’ cards mainly listed their scientific names, nicknames, birth dates, and contracted soul master.
Under scientific name, the three were listed as: Strong Melon-Eating Rabbit, Healing Green Mushroom, and Flame-Wind Ostrich.
Behind Strong Melon-Eating Rabbit was an additional note: hybrid of Power Rabbit and Guagua Rabbit.
Si Er glanced down and couldn’t help laughing.
Elder Xuan Si is quite thoughtful. Knowing I dislike attention, he even registered false information for them.
And the random names I came up with were actually accepted. That’s kind of embarrassing.
But this “hybrid” explanation is way too perfunctory, isn’t it? Guagua Rabbits do eat melons, but they also eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables—and they love imitating little frogs with “gua gua” sounds.
Guagua Rabbits specialize in sonic attacks. Our Guagua doesn’t even have that skill.
Hearing this, Elder Xuan Si pursed his lips. What else could he do? Aside from the one in Si Er’s arms, there were no other rabbits in the world that specialized in eating melons!
After receiving the identity cards, Si Er followed Elder Xuan Wu’s instructions and exited the registration office through a golden door with his three soul pets.
Behind the door stood an elegant and beautiful female instructor. When she saw Si Er, she offered a gentle smile.
“You must be Si Er. My name is Lou Ya. You can simply call me Instructor Lou Ya.”
“Today I’m responsible for guiding outstanding students to register at the Special-Class Dormitory. Once Yu Beixuan comes out, we can go together.”
Si Er asked curiously, “Is it just Yu Beixuan and me staying in the special dormitory?”
Instructor Lou Ya nodded with a smile. “Among the freshmen, only you two.”
“There aren’t many small courtyards in the special dorm area. To qualify, one must either have exceptional talent or exceptional strength.”
“There are currently only two senior students living there. They’re from two cohorts above—both reached Soul Lord before twenty. Already rare geniuses.”
Although Si Er and Yu Beixuan were also Soul Lords and even younger, their talents were abnormal enough that ordinary standards didn’t apply.
After chatting a bit more with Instructor Lou Ya, Si Er grew curious about Yu Beixuan’s soul pets.
Guagua, can you see the panels of Yu Beixuan’s soul pets?
[No problem. Let’s take a look.]
Guagua lightly tapped Si Er’s forehead with its paw. Instantly, an image appeared in Si Er’s mind of Yu Beixuan testing his soul pets.
The first to be tested was a black wolf. Its panel read:
—
Scientific Name: Devouring Night Sky Wolf
Attributes: Dark & Fire
Quality: Top-tier, Supreme
Rank: Third Rank, Nine Stars
Age: 14
Diet: All dark matter, baleful beast flesh and blood
Attack Skills:
Dark Flame
Burning Flame Tail
Rending Flame Claws
Basic Skill:
Night Stealth
Domain Skill:
Endless Night (All hostility merges into the night, becoming nourishment for the domain and strengthening it.)
Control Skill:
Pitch Black (Locks onto one or multiple targets, causing temporary loss of the five senses for half an hour, as if falling into a dark abyss.)
—
Wow. Yu Beilang’s panel looks so powerful and terrifying. You’d never guess from everyday appearances.
Even though it doesn’t look like one, its usual expression really resembles a husky.
You really can’t judge a wolf by its looks.
