Chapter 103 – Extra
These two were busy swapping dog fur, and viewers found themselves torn between watching this exchange of “gifts” or seeing what the loot box had in store.
Finally, after Chen Bai had gathered two handfuls of fluff, he paused and leaned in to check the screen.
The loot box had yielded a single item—a pink hat.
After helping, Xu Sinian was unceremoniously dismissed as Chen Bai reclaimed his seat and commented, “Only one item? Xu Sinian, maybe your luck isn’t so great after all.”
Comments:
[Oh, it’s ‘Old Xu’ when you need him, and just ‘Xu Sinian’ after he’s done. Chen Yi Bai, you’re too much! ]
[That’s a rare item! The streamer next door took three days to get just one of these!]
[Stinky hand, you’re getting cocky if you dare say the luck king’s luck isn’t that great. ]
[Thanks for the invite. I’m here for the relatable struggle of pulling endless fragments before getting the skin. Some people just pull skins straight away. Rolls eyes and leaves.]
After reading the comments, he re-evaluated the “basic hat” and gripped Xu Sinian’s hand, rubbing it for luck. Xu Sinian let him rub his hand with a slight smile, while the chat rolled with laughter at how fast Chen Bai’s opinion of the hat had changed.
Wearing the “lucky” hat, which actually matched his outfit, Chen Bai spun around, admiring how well it fit. He was committed to using every last ounce of luck and even wore a platform-issued skin from his first year of streaming—one he’d made iconic. Now, fans associated the skin with him so much that they couldn’t see it without thinking of Chen Er Bai himself.
Comment:
[He wore the Yu Yi outfit in the drama; giving Er Bai this is only fair, right? (sarcasm)]
[Remember when he first got this outfit and was so annoyed by it? Now he’s fully embraced it!]
[Whenever I see that skin, I imagine his face. At this point, Chen Yi Bai, just put on that outfit IRL, please!]
Seeing the comments, Chen Bai shook his head with a laugh, “What goes on in your minds?”
He glanced at his companion and asked, “What do you think makes people’s brains this… full of ideas?”
Xu Sinian, who’d been leaning casually against the desk, lowered his gaze to the screen, then looked back at Chen Bai with a faint “Hmm?” His dark eyes on him made Chen Bai’s spine tingle. He quickly decided to keep his thoughts to himself and replied, “Never mind.”
The topic was dropped quickly as their little dog tried to jump onto the bed, and Xu Sinian picked it up, heading downstairs. With his nerves settled, Chen Bai returned to the stream.
Shedding fur like crazy, the dog left a new tuft of hair on the floor under the chair. Chen Bai moved his chair aside to reach down, Netizen caught a glimpse of the room behind him—showing viewers a corner of the bedroom, a nightstand, and a shelf with a potted plant and a couple of picture frames.
The camera’s auto-focus kicked in, centering on the closest frame: two people and a dog, with the big white dog’s face taking up half the picture as if it were trying to lick the camera. The other frame held a small collection of cards.
Comments:
[Wait! I thought it looked familiar. That’s my card! The one I made with that horribly drawn flower!]
[Familiar here too! That’s the card I gave him when he starred in his first drama at the hotel. I’d forgotten all about it, but he kept it and even framed it!]
[You little sneak! So glad I made it that day—he stopped taking fan flowers after that!]
[How come all of you got to see him in person? Am I the only one who’s never met him??]
Casual viewers who wandered into the stream quickly realized why Chen Yi Bai’s fans were so fiercely loyal. Moving between projects and homes, he’d kept even the tiniest notes fans had left with bouquets over the years, still safely displayed in frames, soaking up the sunlight every day.
It’s no wonder his fans stuck around, dedicated through every project and hiatus. The simple act of tucking away stray dog fur proved how deeply they valued these glimpses into his life. By the time he turned his chair back toward the screen, his chat had exploded into a frenzy of train station-like crying emojis.
Baffled, he blinked at the screen and tentatively asked, “Uh… friends, what’s… going on?” After a quick thought, he added, “Are you all just missing Old Xu?”
Feeling his logic was spot-on, he took off his headphones and started for the door, clearly intending to pull Xu Sinian back in. His chat instantly erupted, spamming messages to stop him, and he quickly halted.
Relieved the “crying” had ended, he put his headphones back on and continued streaming, still oblivious to what had happened.
True to his word, he only played two rounds. With no friends around to do baiting games, it felt a bit dull. So, after appreciating his newly acquired “lucky hat” a bit more, he switched to sipping water and chatting. Streaming well into the afternoon, he wrapped up before dinnertime to head to his parents’ house.
After a round of goodbyes, he ended the stream, ignoring his chat’s disappointed cries to stay longer. Downstairs, Yiwan and his dad were ready, waiting only for Chen Bai to join them to head out.
Since it was just a family visit, his parents had already sent a driver to pick them up. Settling into the back seat, Chen Bai noticed Xu Sinian typing away and asked, “Busy with work?”
“No, just placing an order,” Xu replied.
For a split second, Chen Bai sensed something was off, but he dismissed it, asking, “For Yiwan?”
With enough clothes from sponsors and his mother’s shopping sprees, his wardrobes were packed. Xu Sinian’s usual attire was simple—suits, home wear, and outdoor clothes, none of which really warranted a custom order. But it made sense if it was for Yiwan.
Curious, Chen Bai leaned closer. “What kind of clothes? Show me.”
Xu Sinian just smiled, explaining there was no picture available. Finding his curiosity unsatisfied, Chen Bai resigned himself to distracting himself with the dog, burying his face in Yiwan’s fluffy head.
Sometimes, however, a little curiosity is best left unexplored. Soon, the conversation was forgotten amidst the day’s events, and Yiwan was showered with new clothes from his grandparents, enjoying fresh outfits each day.
On an ordinary afternoon, a package arrived before Xu Sinian got home from work. A fairly large cardboard box, it was marked as clothing. As he carried it into the living room, he vaguely recalled the brief conversation in the car.
This delivery took a while; another couple of days, and he might’ve completely forgotten about it. Yiwan sniffed around the box, thoroughly inspecting it.
Chen Bai messaged Xu Sinian to let him know the clothes had arrived, then, seeing Yiwan circling the box, he decided to open it himself to try the outfit on their little dog.
Inside the cardboard box were several smaller, carefully wrapped packages. Trying not to damage the packaging, he unwrapped one while Yiwan curiously looked over his shoulder, blocking most of his view.
Unexpectedly, the first thing he saw was a pink outfit with a delicate white collar.
It was cute and somehow familiar, though it didn’t look quite right for Yiwan. Still puzzled, he took the garment fully out of the box and unfolded it, revealing a pink dress with soft fabric that draped smoothly over his lap.
Chen Bai froze, processing. “Huh?” After a three-second delay, he immediately stuffed the dress back into the box and frantically closed it.
Thinking that wasn’t enough, he shoved the smaller box back into the cardboard box and tried to seal it shut, almost as if trying to erase what he’d just seen.
Ahahaha
