Chapter 24: Sending “People”
Four people sat around the table eating hot pot together. This kind of experience was something Mo Xiu had not had since the apocalypse began in his previous life.
After the meal, there was even fruit that Cheng Cheng had prepared. The satisfaction doubled. Mo Xiu hadn’t expected that after being reborn, he would still have moments this comfortable.
Especially with Mo Qi by his side, he could even taste a bit of warmth and happiness.
Looking at the dim yellow sky outside the window, Mo Xiu couldn’t help but sigh with emotion.
Unfortunately, the place they were currently in was Shanhe Base, a place he had absolutely no good feelings toward.
Coming here wasn’t just for revenge. Mo Xiu also had another purpose. In his previous life, he had encountered an opportunity that greatly improved his abilities, and this time he was determined to obtain it as well.
Only with true strength could they live better in the apocalypse.
Mo Xiu still remembered his most important opportunity. It happened when he went out with his team to search for supplies. They unexpectedly encountered a large group of zombies.
In order to cover the team’s escape, Mo Xiu volunteered to act as bait.
After finally escaping with great difficulty, he ran into a mutated gray wolf.
That mutated gray wolf was enormous. Mo Xiu nearly exhausted all his powers before finally killing it, but he was left covered in wounds.
When he recovered a bit of strength afterward, he realized he was starving.
So he started a fire and decided to cook the wolf as food.
While processing the wolf meat, he discovered a strange golden sphere inside the wolf’s stomach.
Later, Mo Xiu learned that it was the core of a mutated animal. It was extremely rare and had miraculous effects in improving supernatural abilities.
Coincidentally, the wolf’s core matched his own ability attribute.
Almost instinctively, he absorbed the core. Immediately, he felt the energy inside his body expand violently, and the pain caused him to faint.
When he woke up again, his lightning ability had jumped straight to the peak of Level 4.
So finding that gray wolf was the key to rapidly increasing his power level.
On the other side, after offering benefits, Xu Liang noticed that Mo Xiu hadn’t made any moves for several days and began to feel something was wrong.
It seemed that this man had never truly intended to pledge loyalty to him. In fact, he was even harder to deal with than Xu Liang had imagined.
But Xu Liang didn’t plan to give up.
He had someone find members of Mo Xiu’s previous team and ask them about the situation.
Coincidentally, the person they found was the old man whom Mo Xiu had once disciplined.
Ever since the old man pushed his wife out to block the zombies the first time, the old lady had stopped paying much attention to him.
On the road to the base she still tolerated him somewhat, but once they arrived and she realized the old man was unreliable, she stopped pretending.
With her excellent cooking skills, the old lady found a job in the cafeteria and abandoned the old man who liked lecturing others.
He was weaker than young people and had no powers. In the apocalypse, who would really listen to his moral lectures and manipulation?
So he ended up living a miserable life, sometimes with food, sometimes without.
When he first heard that the second-in-command of the base wanted to see him, the old man was nervous.
But when he heard they wanted to ask about Mo Xiu, he immediately became energetic.
In his opinion, all his current misery was caused by Mo Xiu.
If Mo Xiu had taken proper care of them back then and not forced them to go out searching for supplies, he wouldn’t have fallen out with his wife and ended up like this.
So without hesitation, he began spewing all kinds of bad things about Mo Xiu.
He described Mo Xiu as a tyrant who relied on his powers to bully others.
As for Mo Qi, the old man said he was just a pretty boy toy with a good-looking face whom Mo Xiu kept around.
“You don’t know this, but that Mo Xiu is a complete pervert. Instead of liking women, he likes men. What else would you call that if not a pervert?”
The old man spoke passionately, doing everything he could to slander Mo Xiu.
After hearing the same nonsense repeatedly, Xu Liang grew impatient.
Since the old man couldn’t provide anything new, Xu Liang had someone toss him two steamed buns and send him away.
“Brother Xu, do you think what that old man said could be true? We’ve seen Mo Xiu before. Is he really that kind of person? It doesn’t really seem like it,” Bian Tai said doubtfully.
Xu Liang smiled slightly.
“You can’t judge a person by appearance. How can you see someone’s heart on the surface? Besides, if Mo Xiu really is that kind of person, that’s not a bad thing.
Greedy and lazy people are easier to buy.”
“Didn’t that old man say? Except for being diligent when taking care of the pretty boy he keeps, Mo Xiu hardly does anything.”
Thinking of Mo Qi’s face, Xu Liang had to admit that the man indeed had the capital to be kept as a lover.
But since Mo Qi was picked up halfway and the two didn’t share deep history, it meant their relationship probably wasn’t that strong.
More likely, Mo Xiu was simply lustful and treated his lover well.
But lovers like that always get boring eventually.
If Xu Liang sent the right person to whisper sweet things in Mo Xiu’s ear, it would definitely produce twice the result with half the effort.
With that thought, Xu Liang—believing he had already grasped Mo Xiu’s weakness—immediately told Bian Tai to find several good-looking men and bring them to Mo Xiu’s residence.
When Mo Xiu opened the door and saw a circle of all kinds of men standing outside, he was stunned.
Not just him. Cheng Cheng, who was busy massaging his boss’s legs inside the room, was also confused.
Since being rescued, Cheng Cheng had behaved very well—especially in serving Mo Qi wholeheartedly—which Mo Xiu greatly approved of.
So Mo Xiu shared some cultivation methods for improving supernatural abilities that he had learned in his previous life.
Cheng Cheng treasured the knowledge like a precious treasure.
He actually had excellent talent in abilities. Otherwise he wouldn’t have become a powerful figure in his previous life. He just hadn’t known how to train before.
With Mo Xiu’s guidance, Cheng Cheng’s ability had already broken through to Level 2 in just a few days.
He was so happy that he served Mo Qi even more attentively than before.
He practically wanted to stay there 24 hours a day, looking for chances to prove himself.
But now what was happening?
Why had someone suddenly brought several weak, overly groomed men here?
Clearly these people couldn’t do heavy labor, and none of them had abilities.
Were they sent to serve them tea and water?
But sending one or two he could understand.
Sending four or five at once? They couldn’t even fit in the house.
Besides, he already served the boss. Wasn’t that enough?
If they stayed, what would he do?
Wouldn’t his chance to show loyalty decrease again?
Mo Qi, however, quickly understood Xu Liang’s intention.
When he was the Demon Lord in his previous life, he had seen things like this many times.
When they first arrived at the base, Mo Qi already knew Mo Xiu’s dual abilities would bring trouble like this.
He just hadn’t expected it to come so quickly.
Seeing those men dressed flamboyantly, flirting and posing in front of Mo Xiu, Mo Qi’s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.
He had finally found a pleasant “meal ticket” to rely on.
And now one after another people were trying to steal him!
