Chapter 13: Changes
Mo Qi pondered silently to himself. Just as he was about to act, he suddenly noticed a glowing green translucent crystal not far away.
It was diamond-shaped, looking like a core.
This should be the thing he had previously seen inside the body of that mutated plant—something resembling an inner core.
In an instant, Mo Qi realized that this must be the source of the mutated plant’s power. Although its shape was somewhat different from the inner cores he had seen in the cultivation world, he was certain that this was the plant’s core.
Simply put, it was the inner core of that mutated sunflower.
Instinctively, Mo Qi felt that this thing would benefit him.
Cultivators had always trusted their instincts, so without thinking too much, Mo Qi decided to treat a dead horse as if it were alive.
He lunged forward, grabbing the crystal core with all his strength and gripping it tightly in his hand. Then he immediately began absorbing the energy inside the crystal core as quickly as possible.
Unlike the sunflower that had just turned extremely ugly and grotesque, Mo Qi was surprised to discover that although the energy in this mutated sunflower’s crystal core was powerful, it was unexpectedly gentle.
Not only did it relieve his current symptoms, it even accelerated the compatibility between his body and soul, preventing him from being directly overwhelmed by his own spirit…
However, the process was far from easy.
His dantian was already swollen with demonic energy, and now he was being forced to absorb all the energy contained in the crystal core.
The collision of the two forces churned violently inside his body. His body felt like a container being repeatedly refined.
Just as it was about to burst and shatter, the assistance from the crystal core he had absorbed barely managed to restrain and stabilize it—again and again.
By the time the energy within the crystal core was finally completely digested, Mo Qi could no longer hold on and completely lost consciousness.
But what he didn’t know was that the moment he fainted, the demonic energy within his body began to be absorbed at an astonishing speed.
Even the demonic energy accumulated inside him was not enough, and his body began automatically absorbing the surrounding demonic energy, forming an invisible vortex of demonic energy that others could not see.
Meanwhile, on the other side, after Mo Xiu finished relieving himself and returned to the resting area, he discovered that the person who should have been waiting beside the car had disappeared.
“Mo Qi! Mo Qi! Where are you?” Mo Xiu called anxiously.
Receiving no response, he quickly searched the surrounding area, but still couldn’t find the person he was looking for.
Mo Xiu knew that he had already warned him beforehand. Based on his understanding of the man, the other party would never wander off on his own.
Especially since they had spent several days together, Mo Xiu was even more certain that although the man didn’t seem very bright, overall he was quite obedient.
Before leaving, he had specifically told him not to go anywhere. He refused to believe that the man would be so disobedient—besides, the man’s mobility was inconvenient to begin with.
“Did any of you see Mo Qi?” Mo Xiu asked the people in the group coldly.
Everyone looked at each other, clearly not knowing the answer either.
Mo Xiu keenly sensed that things were not that simple. His gloomy gaze swept across every person present.
To Mo Xiu, none of the people here mattered. The only person who mattered was the man—and he wasn’t here.
Something was wrong!
If Mo Qi had gotten into trouble because of some scheme from these people, he would never let them go.
Rage surged in Mo Xiu’s heart. Noticing his terrifying gaze, Xi Wenlin quickly lowered his head, not daring to meet his eyes.
Mo Xiu also immediately sensed that something was off about him.
Could this matter be related to Xi Wenlin?
Not far away, Lu Pingwan suddenly remembered that earlier she seemed to have seen Xi Wenlin walking toward the direction of Mo Xiu’s off-road vehicle.
However, she had been busy with other things at the time and hadn’t paid much attention.
The young girl pressed her lips together before quietly gesturing toward Xi Wenlin’s direction.
With Lu Pingwan’s confirmation, Mo Xiu wasted no time and strode toward Xi Wenlin.
He grabbed the man by the collar and lifted him up with one hand, his voice icy.
“Speak. Where did you take Mo Qi?”
“I—I don’t know! This has nothing to do with me!”
Xi Wenlin denied it in panic, struggling desperately to break free from Mo Xiu’s grip, only to realize that his strength was completely inferior.
Mo Xiu didn’t believe him at all. He knew this person’s hypocrisy and selfishness very well.
However, in his memory, Xi Wenlin had never been particularly brave. Without enormous benefits or strong backing, he normally wouldn’t dare do anything.
So he hadn’t expected that in the short time he had been gone, Xi Wenlin would actually dare pull such a trick.
Mo Xiu suddenly grabbed him by the throat and said coldly,
“Talk. If you don’t tell the truth, you die.”
Feeling the tightening pressure on his neck and seeing the intense killing intent in Mo Xiu’s eyes, Xi Wenlin finally realized that he wasn’t bluffing.
Mo Xiu was actually planning to kill him—for the sake of a fool.
“D-don’t kill me! I—I’ll tell you!”
Xi Wenlin struggled to speak. Clutching his neck, he pointed toward the opposite direction from where he had abandoned Mo Qi.
As soon as he finished speaking, Mo Xiu threw him to the ground.
But before Mo Xiu could act, someone who had just returned from relieving himself spoke up,
“That’s wrong. He’s lying.
Before I went to the toilet just now, I saw him dragging that guy called Mo Qi away. The direction was clearly the opposite of what he just pointed.”
Hearing this, Xi Wenlin trembled and turned angrily toward the man who had exposed his lie.
The man had a buzz cut and the surname Zhuang. His name was Zhuang Mingde.
Normally he had little presence in the group, with a somewhat dull personality, and he was skinny as a monkey.
Who would have thought that he would suddenly jump out to expose him?
Could it be because the last time they searched for supplies together, Xi Wenlin had secretly taken several boxes of biscuits from him—and now he was holding a grudge?
Xi Wenlin gritted his teeth and hurriedly denied it.
“That’s not true, Mo Xiu! He’s lying!”
Mo Xiu snorted coldly.
“Very good.”
The next second, he kicked Xi Wenlin in the knee, breaking one of his legs.
Unfortunately, Mo Xiu was still worried that Mo Qi might be in danger, so he couldn’t afford to waste more time on him.
After that kick, he immediately rushed in the direction Zhuang had pointed.
To move faster, Mo Xiu even used his wind-type ability to assist himself. Fortunately, because the direction was correct, it didn’t take long before he found Mo Qi.
Seeing the man unconscious on the ground, Mo Xiu’s heart tightened. When he noticed the zombie lying nearby, his expression became even uglier.
“Mo Qi! Mo Qi, how are you?”
Mo Xiu quickly helped him sit up and let him lean against his chest, asking anxiously. Even though he believed Mo Qi wasn’t afraid of the zombie virus, he was still nervous.
However, the person in his arms was unconscious and couldn’t respond.
Seeing the man’s pale face and the sweat on his forehead, Mo Xiu’s heart was filled with worry.
Fortunately, Mo Qi was still alive.
But why was the man’s breathing so weak?
Mo Xiu quickly scanned his body. There didn’t seem to be any bite marks from the zombie.
He had no idea what method Mo Qi had used to deal with that zombie.
Frowning deeply, Mo Xiu called out to him a few more times, but the man in his arms still didn’t wake up.
If it wasn’t the zombie, then what had caused his unconsciousness?
Mo Xiu glanced around the surrounding environment and noticed a lot of strange ashes on the ground, but he couldn’t tell what they were.
He couldn’t figure it out and didn’t want to waste any more time.
With no other choice, he picked Mo Qi up and returned to where the group was resting.
“Does anyone here know medicine? Come help me take a look at him!” Mo Xiu shouted to the group while holding Mo Qi.
Although he didn’t think any of them were doctors, he still couldn’t help asking.
Unfortunately, the result was exactly as he expected. Everyone looked at each other—clearly there wasn’t even half a doctor among them.
Xi Wenlin clutched his painfully broken leg. Seeing Mo Qi lying there, his life or death uncertain, he felt a surge of satisfaction.
Although he had been caught for what he did, it seemed that Mo Qi hadn’t ended up any better.
From the looks of it, he had probably been bitten by that zombie earlier.
Xi Wenlin believed that Mo Qi would soon turn into a zombie. When that happened, even if Mo Xiu didn’t want to, he would have no choice but to abandon him.
Already anxious and frustrated because he didn’t know when Mo Qi would wake up, Mo Xiu felt his anger boil over when he saw the gloating look in Xi Wenlin’s eyes.
His fists clenched so tightly they cracked.
Now that he had brought Mo Qi back, Mo Xiu had no intention of tolerating anything anymore.
He carefully laid the man on the spacious back seat of the vehicle so he could lie comfortably.
Then he called out to Lu Pingwan.
“Xiaowan, come help me take care of Mo Qi.”
After arranging everything, Mo Xiu stood up and looked coldly at Xi Wenlin as he slowly walked toward him, step by step.
