A Box of Candy

Chapter 25: A Box of Candy

After sending the children away, Chu Feng let out a sigh of relief.

Illya looked at Chu Feng curiously and asked, “What’s in that suitcase?”

“Candy.”

“All of it?”

Chu Feng nodded. “That’s right.”

“You actually brought a whole suitcase full of candy?”

Chu Feng nodded again. “Yeah.”

Illya widened his eyes in surprise, thinking: Candy isn’t cheap. Even common families would only buy a piece or two occasionally to treat their kids.

“Is candy and salt worthless in your world?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Not worth much.” He had liked candy as a kid, but found it too sweet as an adult.

“If salt and candy aren’t worth much, then what is?” Illya asked in confusion.

Chu Feng thought for a moment and pointed to the watch on his wrist. “This is valuable.”

Illya looked puzzled. “That’s worth a lot?”

Chu Feng shook his head. “This one isn’t. I bought it when I was broke—only cost a few dozen yuan. But brand-name watches like this can be worth enough to buy hundreds of boxes of candy.”

For many men, watches are symbols of status. A few tens of thousands for a designer watch is normal, and watches worth over a million are common too.

Illya frowned slightly. “That thing just tells time. Do other watches do anything else?”

Chu Feng shook his head. “Nope, just tells time.”

“Then why is it so expensive if it does the same thing?”

Chu Feng: “…” Because it’s a brand name? “It just is.”

Illya was baffled. “That expensive, and people still buy it?”

“Of course. Lots of people buy them.” Some couldn’t even afford food, while others owned hundreds of properties and didn’t even have time to collect rent. When people have more money than they can spend, they naturally find ways to burn it. Otherwise, what’s the point of having so much?

Chu Feng felt a bit smug. Thanks to this world-hopping ability, he’d gone from broke to being worth over 100 million.

Illya looked at him and murmured, “People in your world are really strange.”

Chu Feng laughed. “Maybe so.”

He moved the suitcase into the room. Although Illya was curious about the other two suitcases, he didn’t ask further.

After leaving Gray’s house, Moore and the others couldn’t wait to try the candy.

“This is so good!”

“This one’s weird—it makes my mouth feel all cool.”

“Mine’s a little sour—sweet and sour.”

Chu Feng had just grabbed a handful randomly from the suitcase, so each kid got different types.

“Gray, where exactly is that Chu Feng from? Don’t tell me his whole suitcase was full of candy!” Moore said.

Gray frowned. “I think he’s from across the sea. And he’s really rich.”

Moore said enviously, “I want to go across the sea too.”

Gray glanced at him and shook his head. “So do I. But without space-travel abilities, I don’t think we can.”

“Gray, his backpack is so nice! What do I have to do for him to give me one?” Hill asked.

Gray rolled his eyes. Just hearing the word backpack made his heart ache.

The backpack he had brought back had been taken by some village elders to be studied. They ended up tearing it apart and stitching it back together—looking far worse than before. Gray had been upset about it for a long time.

“Brother.” A little wolf pup came bouncing over.

Loga picked him up. “Luo’ao, why are you here?”

The little wolf looked up at Loga with sparkling eyes. “Big brother, what are you eating? I want some too.”

Loga nodded. “Alright, I’ll give you a few pieces of candy.”

Word of the candy Chu Feng had given out quickly spread across the village, stirring the curiosity of the teens who hadn’t gone to meet him.

“Sister Daifis, that outsider entered the village.”

A young elven girl was fiddling with her bow. “Mm, I saw him. No human can be trusted. That guy is definitely suspicious.”

“Gray says that human is a good person,” said Xueli.

Daifis snorted. “That idiot’s been fooled by a human.”

Xueli pouted. “Gray said that human is really rich. Our village doesn’t have anything worth exploiting anyway.”

Daifis narrowed her eyes. “Really rich? Then he must be a human noble. And human nobles are the absolute worst.”

Xueli pulled out two pieces of candy and showed them to Daifis. “Look, these are candy.”

“Where’d you get them?” Daifis asked.

“Hill gave them to me. He helped that human with his luggage, and the human gave them to him,” Xueli explained.

Daifis frowned. “That spineless fool. Got bribed by that damned human.”

Xueli nodded. “If the human keeps using candy like this, Hill and the others will definitely be won over.”

Daifis said angrily, “There’s not a single decent human.”

Xueli hesitated. “Hill gave you this candy. If you don’t want it…”

Daifis sulked. “Who said I didn’t want it? Give it here.”

Xueli, a bit disappointed, tossed the candy to Daifis.

“Aren’t you worried it might be dangerous?” Xueli asked.

Daifis said casually, “What’s to worry about? This is our territory. And it tastes good.”
