Buying a Villa

Chapter 22: Buying a Villa

When Chu Feng returned to his room, it was midnight. He had spent the past few days in the other world sleeping rough and constantly on the move. He hadn’t rested properly in days. Now, lying under warm covers, he felt a rare sense of bliss.

He slept straight through until noon and was finally awakened by his phone ringing.

It was a call from Chu Anzhi.

When he learned Chu Feng was home, Chu Anzhi said he’d be over soon.

“Brother Feng, where’ve you been these past few days!”

Chu Feng casually replied, “Just out having some fun.”

“Brother Feng, even though you won a million, you still need to be careful with spending. I had a classmate whose family got three houses from a land compensation deal—they were suddenly rich. But then his parents went gambling, lost all three houses, and racked up a bunch of debt. Now his parents have run off, and he’s stuck living with his grandparents. No idea what they’ll do.”

Chu Feng: …Is he seriously comparing me to a gambling addict?
He chuckled. “Don’t worry, I didn’t go gambling, and I didn’t go looking for prostitutes either.” He was a law-abiding citizen, after all.
“So, why were you looking for me?”

“Aunt came by a few days ago. She wants to borrow your car,” Chu Anzhi said.

Chu Feng frowned. “What’s with their family? Weren’t they going to buy a car themselves?”
If they’re buying one, why borrow mine?

“Yeah, but they haven’t actually bought it yet.”

“She even went to your workplace,” Chu Anzhi added.

Chu Feng frowned deeper. “She went to my job? What for?”

“No idea. But she found out you quit.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Oh.”

He took a deep breath. Seems like it’s time to buy a new house. Living under everyone’s watch like this is too annoying.
Normally, his relatives didn’t even think of him, but now they were all suddenly crowding around.

Chu Anzhi frowned. “Brother Feng, why’d you quit your job?”

Chu Feng smiled. “I wanted a change.”

“Do you have any plans yet? You’ve got some money now—maybe you could start a small business,” Anzhi suggested.

Chu Feng shook his head. “Not yet. I’m planning to take a break for now.”

“That’s fair. You’ve worked so many years—it’s time to rest. You should go travel! Go abroad and see the world. What about Thailand? You could go check out the ladyboys!”

Chu Feng waved him off. “Alright, I’ve got things to do. Go play by yourself.”
He was practically going on otherworldly tours every few days now—international tourism just didn’t excite him anymore. Compared to half-elves and beastmen, ladyboys weren’t exactly impressive.

Chu Anzhi: “…”

Chu Feng brought his ID and headed to the Jinshui Bay villa district. Located by the river, it was a bit remote and not cheap, so sales weren’t great. Not many people were buying houses there.

When he entered the sales center, a few agents were chatting among themselves.

They glanced at him when he walked in, then quickly looked away.

Chu Feng thought: These agents are too stuck-up—can’t even recognize a big client when they see one. All blind.

“Sir, are you looking to buy a villa?” a somewhat timid female sales agent came over to ask.

Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”

He looked over at the model display. “This one—it’s on special offer?”

The saleswoman nodded, her expression shifting slightly. “Yes, this villa is currently priced at a steep discount. It was originally 5.6 million, but now you can get it for just 4.6 million. It’s a great deal.”

Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. He remembered a rumor: nearby was a river called Jinshui River.

Recently, two people had drowned themselves there—both at the same spot. Because of that, the river had become jokingly known as a “suicide destination.” With the current slump in the housing market and these tragedies, it was no wonder the villas were harder to sell.

The villa he was looking at was the closest one to the spot where those suicides happened. That probably explained why it was being offered at such a big discount.

Well, other people might be superstitious—but to me, that just means peace and quiet.

“I’ll take this one,” Chu Feng said.

The saleswoman hesitated. “Are you sure you want to buy it?”

Chu Feng smiled. “Yes. I’d like to move in as soon as possible.”

She nodded. “All the villas here come fully furnished. You can move in right away.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Really? That’s perfect—saves me the trouble.”

“Are you planning to pay in full or in installments?”

“Full payment,” Chu Feng replied.

The saleswoman nodded. “I’ll get the paperwork started right away.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Thanks for your help.”

At the side, the other sales agents who had been chatting stopped and turned their attention to Chu Feng and the transaction.

With the money transferred, the procedures were completed quickly, and not long after, the keys to the house were handed to Chu Feng.

After buying the villa and the car, Chu Feng was a bit shocked to realize that the 5 million yuan he had just received was nearly all spent.

As soon as Chu Feng left, the other sales agents immediately began gossiping.

“You really can’t judge a book by its cover! That guy was dressed head to toe in cheap Taobao clothes, and he just bought a villa in full without even blinking.”

“He was only driving a Volkswagen too.”

When Chu Feng had arrived, the female sales agents had all been slacking off.

They had sharp eyes, after all. They all saw Chu Feng drive up in a VW and assumed he was just there to browse. If he had driven up in a Porsche, they would’ve swarmed him immediately.

“Who would’ve thought that girl Xueli would luck out like that.” A commission on a villa was 30,000 to 40,000 yuan, and watching that kind of money slip through their fingers made their hearts ache.

“She has to treat us—definitely has to treat us to dinner.”

“That guy’s a rookie! He probably doesn’t even know someone died here. If he finds out, do you think he’ll try to get a refund?”

“He bought a discounted property—it’s non-refundable.”

Chu Feng left promptly after buying the villa, unaware that the sales staff were still talking about him long after he left.
