Chapter 14: Buying a Car
Chu Feng glanced at Anzhi, who had followed him. “Why’d you come along?”
“They’re off being all lovey-dovey—what am I supposed to do, stand there like a lamp post?”
Honestly, Anzhi hadn’t even wanted to tag along with Jin Hui in the first place. He just couldn’t say no to Aunt Yan Ping.
Chu Feng nodded. “Fair enough.”
“Brother Feng, you just said you’re buying a car—what kind are you thinking of?”
Chu Feng answered casually, “Something ordinary.”
With all the secrets he had, it was best to stay low-profile.
Anzhi nodded in agreement. “Doesn’t matter if it’s 50K, 150K, or 500K—they all have four wheels. As long as it drives, it’s a car, right?”
“You’re pretty wise for your age, Anzhi.”
Anzhi scratched his head with a smile. “Aw, come on.”
“So what brand are you thinking?”
“Volkswagen.” If I want to keep a low profile, that’s the way to go.
The two of them walked into a dealership. A salesperson spotted them and eagerly came over.
“Looking to buy a car today?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”
“What price range are you considering?”
“Around 200,000 yuan.”
The salesperson smiled. “Right this way.”
Anzhi leaned toward Chu Feng, lowering his voice nervously. “Isn’t 200,000 a bit high?”
Chu Feng replied calmly, “It’s fine.”
Chu Anzhi: “…”
The salesperson stepped forward with a smile.
“Gentlemen, how about this model? It’s one of our newest releases this year, and we’re currently running a big promotion on it.”
“We’ll keep looking,” Chu Anzhi said.
“Can we test drive it?” Chu Feng asked.
The salesperson nodded. “Of course. If you’ve brought your driver’s license, you’re welcome to take one of our cars for a spin.”
“Great,” Chu Feng replied.
Chu Anzhi glanced sideways at Chu Feng, his emotions a mix of excitement and unease—but he told himself they were just looking, not actually buying, so he calmed down again.
With 5 million yuan in his account, Chu Feng moved quickly. He paid the full amount on the spot and was ready to drive the car home.
“Sir, would you like to drive the car off the lot now?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes, I’ll take it now.”
Chu Anzhi blinked at the bank card in Chu Feng’s hand. He had been worried that the saleslady might say the card didn’t have enough funds, but surprisingly, the payment went through without a hitch.
Even as he sat in the passenger seat, Chu Anzhi still felt like he was in a dream.
“Brother Feng, you paid in full?! Where’d you get all that money?!”
Chu Feng casually replied, “I went on a work trip a few days ago, bought a lottery ticket, and accidentally won a million.”
Chu Anzhi’s voice shot up. “What?! A million?!”
Chu Feng waved a hand. “Keep it down! Don’t distract me while I’m driving.”
Chu Anzhi frowned. “Cousin, you’re way too low-key. That’s a million bucks and you didn’t say a word?”
Chu Feng smiled. “It’s no big deal.”
“Did you really win a million?” Anzhi asked.
Chu Feng nodded. “Yup.”
Anzhi said enviously, “You’ve got some insane luck. Maybe I should buy a few lottery tickets too!”
Chu Feng shook his head. “Don’t get your hopes up. Luck like mine isn’t for ordinary people.”
Chu Anzhi: “…”

After dropping Anzhi off, Chu Feng drove home.
Inside Anzhi’s home, his mother, Gu Jia, asked, “Xiao An, did your cousin Jin Hui buy a Volkswagen? I thought he was getting a BMW? Why the sudden change?”
Anzhi shook his head. “Mom, are you blind? That wasn’t Jin Hui’s car—it was Brother Feng’s.”
Gu Jia was surprised. “Xiao Feng bought that car? How much did it cost?”
Anzhi scratched his head. “About 250,000.”
Gu Jia frowned. “That expensive? Where’d he get the money?”
Anzhi chuckled. “He took out a loan.”
In truth, Chu Feng had won a million yuan and bought the car without blinking. He even generously gave Anzhi a new iPhone.
Anzhi chose to keep Chu Feng’s full payment a secret. He understood why—if Aunt Yan Ping found out about the lottery win, Brother Feng would never have peace again.
Gu Jia shook her head. “When did Xiao Feng start picking up your uncle’s family’s bad habits—taking out loans?”
Anzhi smiled. “Mom, loans are the trend nowadays. Money’s getting less valuable by the day, and it’s easier to repay over time.”
Gu Jia said sharply, “What if he loses his job?”
Anzhi blinked. Well… technically he has lost his job. But he just won a million yuan, so even if he does nothing for a while, he’ll be fine.
“Has your older cousin picked out a car yet?”
Anzhi frowned. “Not yet. That woman wants a BMW 5 Series, says the 3 Series is too common.”
Gu Jia sighed. “That girl your cousin found sure has high standards. I heard from your aunt that the handbag she brought last time cost 30,000 yuan!”
Anzhi nodded. “Something like that.” The last time, she was carrying a Burberry bag; this time, it looked like a Gucci.
Gu Jia shook her head. “Girls nowadays only care about expensive and impractical things. You better not bring home someone like that—we can’t afford it.”
Anzhi scratched his head. Even if I wanted to, women like her wouldn’t even look at a broke guy like me…
