Chapter 13: Buying a Car and an Unexpected Encounter
With a freshly loaded bank card in his pocket, Chu Feng walked down the street feeling light as air.
He’d never realized before that making money could be so easy.
He used to scrape by, working hard for a measly 5,000–6,000 yuan a month. But now, with more money than he thought he’d ever make in a lifetime, Chu Feng found himself unsure of how to even spend it.
After thinking it over, he decided it was time to buy a car. He’d definitely need to transport supplies in the future, and he couldn’t keep relying on that rickety tricycle. It didn’t have to be too expensive—something around 200,000 yuan would do.
With that in mind, Chu Feng hailed a cab and headed to a car dealership.
He looked around the showroom. In fact, Chu Feng had considered buying a car for a while now. Originally, he planned to buy a secondhand one—cheaper, but risky if he ended up with a lemon that constantly needed repairs. Now that he had the money, there was no need to settle for something used.
As he wandered through the lot, someone suddenly called out to him.
“Brother Feng!”
Chu Feng turned around and saw his cousin, Chu Anzhi. He tilted his head in surprise. What are the chances of running into him here?
“What are you doing here? Shopping for a car too?” Chu Feng asked.
Anzhi shook his head. “I don’t even know how to drive. I came with Cousin Jin Hui. He’s inside checking out cars.”
“Then why are you out here?” Chu Feng asked, puzzled.
Anzhi scratched his head awkwardly. “He and his girlfriend are looking together. I felt like a third wheel, so I came out for some air.”
Chu Feng looked at Anzhi’s freshly cropped hair and nodded. “Yeah, you do kind of look like a third wheel.”
Anzhi: “…”
“Why’d you cut your hair so short? Trying to make a clean break from heartbreak or something?” Chu Feng teased.
Anzhi rolled his eyes. “What nonsense. It’s just hot lately—I wanted something cooler.”
“What kind of car is Cousin Jin Hui looking at?” Chu Feng asked casually.
Anzhi replied, “At first he wanted a BMW 3, but his girlfriend wants a 5.”
Chu Feng nodded. “Ah, I see.” A 3 versus a 5 isn’t just a difference of two—it’s a 200,000 yuan gap.
“Anyway, forget about them. Brother Feng, are you here to buy a car too?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah.”
“Anzhi, come in and have a look! Why are you just standing outside?” Chu Jinhui called out from the door.
His eyes landed on Chu Feng. “Oh, Chu Feng, you’re here too? Come on in.”
Standing beside him was a woman in red high heels. She glanced at Chu Feng with a flash of disdain in her eyes.
Chu Feng thought: So that’s the daughter of Jin Hui’s boss, huh? If he marries her, he might be able to skip a few years of struggle.
“You’re the cousin who delivers packages, right?” Shen Yue asked.
Chu Feng: “…” I got laid off, so technically, I’m not a delivery guy anymore.
“Yes,” he replied.
Shen Yue said with a patronizing tone, “Delivery work isn’t a long-term plan. You’re still young—why not take a college entrance exam? There are plenty of adult education options these days.”
Chu Feng: “…” You must be joking. After all these years of working, and now you want me to go back to school?
He thought to himself: She’s got that same condescending tone as Aunt Yan Ping. No doubt they’ll get along great.
“We’ll see,” he said casually.
Jin Hui said, “Why are you two just standing at the door? Come in and take a look. They’ve got some good cars here.”
Chu Feng shook his head. “Yeah, the cars are great—but they’re too expensive. Can’t afford them, so I’ll pass.”
He turned and walked away. Anzhi glanced at Jin Hui and Shen Yue, then grinned and said, “I’ll go too.”
He caught up with Chu Feng outside the BMW dealership.
