Chapter 124: The Shaman’s Suggestion
Chu Feng arranged to meet Chu Anzhi at a restaurant near the academy.
“Brother Feng, sorry to trouble you again.”
Chu Feng smiled. “It’s no problem.”
Chu Anzhi scratched his head. “The world is really getting chaotic lately. Good thing there was that wandering hero who stood up for justice.”
“Wandering hero who stood up for justice?” Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. What the heck is that supposed to mean?
Chu Anzhi nodded. “Apparently, someone couldn’t stand the actions of those people in the lab and reported them to the Bureau. That’s how we got rescued. There are still good people in the world!”
Chu Feng forced a smile. “Maybe.”
Illya looked at Chu Anzhi and said sympathetically, “You look very weak.”
Chu Anzhi laughed awkwardly. “Yeah…” He had been drained of blood in the lab and injected with various strange substances as part of drug testing. Even though he’d been rescued, he still felt awful.
Illya handed him a bottle of elixirs. “Here, this will help replenish your energy and blood.”
Chu Anzhi asked curiously, “From a traditional Chinese doctor?”
Illya nodded. “Yep.”
Chu Anzhi thought to himself: Brother Feng once gave me an antidote elixir and said it was from a traditional Chinese doctor. But maybe that doctor actually knows Illya, not Brother Feng. Looks like my cousin stumbled on a real gem!
He took a elixir and swallowed it. It quickly dissolved, and he immediately felt much more energized.
“This elixir is amazing!” Chu Anzhi said in surprise.
Chu Feng smiled. “As long as it helps.”
“Brother Feng, did you know? We only escaped thanks to someone with invisibility powers,” Chu Anzhi said mysteriously.
Chu Feng asked, puzzled, “How do you know?”
“I overheard two people from the Bureau talking.”
Chu Feng thought: So careless! Can’t believe people at the Bureau speak so freely where they can be overheard.
“They thought it was a ghost at first, but it turned out to be an invisibility ability-user. Very cautious, too—one of those ‘do-gooders who don’t leave their name’ types.”
Chu Feng chuckled. “Then you really were lucky.”
Chu Anzhi nodded. “Yeah. Do you know who took me? Were they after something?”
Chu Anzhi shook his head. “Not sure, but I think they were backed by a Feng Shui organization. The abandoned building we were held in had all sorts of accidents because of bad Feng Shui.”
“I heard the building’s owner jumped off the roof because he was sabotaged by a rival who hired a Feng Shui master.”
Chu Feng asked, “How did you know all that?”
Chu Anzhi frowned. “Overheard some researchers in the underground lab talking. Apparently that Feng Shui group targets rich people to make money.”
Illya tilted her head. “Feng Shui really is such a mysterious thing.”
Chu Feng nodded in agreement.
Chu Anzhi added, “Feng Shui might be mysterious, but that organization seems to be shifting focus. They’re now researching how to become ability users. They’ve also collected lots of weird stones.”
Chu Feng looked at him. “So what are your plans now? Go home or stay at the academy?”
Chu Anzhi frowned and said, “I’ll stay at the academy. It might not even be safe at home. Running home every time something happens isn’t a solution. After all this trouble, the academy has strengthened its security. It’ll be harder for anything like this to happen again. And since they’ve already failed once, they might not try again so soon.”
Chu Feng looked at Chu Anzhi and sighed. “Take care of yourself and keep exercising regularly.”
Everyone has their own life. Although Chu Feng felt some sympathy for his cousin’s experiences, he couldn’t watch over him all day long. All he could do was give him a few words of advice.
“I know,” Chu Anzhi shook his head. “There’s a saying: things don’t happen more than three times. I’ve already had two rounds of bad luck—surely I won’t be unlucky a third time… probably.”
Chu Feng said, “That’s hard to say. It’s best to stay on campus as much as possible and try to stay where there are people around.”
Chu Anzhi nodded. “I was thinking the same. The Feng Shui organization seems to have suffered a big loss this time. They probably won’t be coming after an ordinary person like me again—at least not anytime soon.”
After visiting Chu Anzhi, Chu Feng brought Illya back to the western-style house using teleportation to get some cash, then returned to the villa in the small town.
Looking at the familiar surroundings of the villa, Chu Feng couldn’t help but think, Teleportation really is a fantastic ability! Even flying from the Capital would take several hours, but with this power, it only takes a second.
Illya went to check the villa’s warehouse and found lots of large items.
“What did you buy this time?” Chu Feng asked.
“Fridge, color TV, washing machine, air conditioner…”
Chu Feng looked speechlessly at Illya. “Why did you buy a TV?”
Illya replied without hesitation, “To watch TV, of course!”
Chu Feng said helplessly, “But there’s no signal over there.”
Illya looked a little disappointed and nodded. “You’re right…” He sighed, clearly a bit lost in thought.
Chu Feng smiled. “If you really like it, you can buy some DVDs to watch instead.”
Illya’s eyes lit up. “That’s a great idea!”
Nowadays, most TVs don’t even have disc drives anymore…
Chu Feng and Illya returned to the Crescent Village. When the Shaman Qiu Luo saw the Witch Stone Chu Feng brought, he was completely stunned.
“This is…?”
Chu Feng smiled. “A Witch Stone, a gift for you, Shaman.”
Shaman Qiu Luo looked helpless. “This is too much… I can’t accept this.”
Chu Feng smiled. “It’s the least I can do.”
He gave him the smallest piece of Witch Stone, which wasn’t particularly full of energy—he wasn’t too heartbroken about it.
Shaman glanced at the two of them, beginning to understand why their powers had improved so dramatically lately. He frowned slightly. “This is far too valuable…”
He had read some ancient texts left behind by other shamans, many of which described this kind of legendary object as something witches dreamed of. Qiu Luo hadn’t expected he’d actually get the chance to own one.
Chu Feng smiled. “It’s alright, Shaman. Please just take it.”
Qiu Luo looked at him curiously. “Don’t you come from a world without ability users? How did you get a Witch Stone?”
Chu Feng took a deep breath. “There weren’t any before, but in the past few months…”
Shaman looked surprised. “Really? Has an Ability Tide occurred?”
Chu Feng looked confused. “What’s an Ability Tide?”
Qiu Luo shook his head. “I’ve only seen it mentioned in ancient records. It seems that our ability users here were born after an Ability Tide. When one happens, large numbers of new ability users appear.”
Illya looked puzzled. “How come I’ve never heard of that?”
Qiu Luo’s voice was calm. “It was a long time ago. Only a few ancient books even mention it.”
Illya nodded, softly responding, “Oh.”
Shaman glanced at the two of them. “You’ve been gone for several days—did you run into trouble over there?”
Illya nodded. “Sort of.”
Even though the trouble hadn’t been theirs directly, it still counted as trouble.
“Shaman,” Chu Feng asked, “the new humans who arrived—are they behaving themselves?”
Qiu Luo furrowed his brow. “More or less. They’ve used up all their strength. Even if they wanted to misbehave, they couldn’t.”
Most of the humans that Lichiya and Riye brought were originally elf hunters, so they were quite physically strong. But that worked out—it meant they could take on more hard labor. Whether with the dwarves or the mountain tribes, there was always plenty of heavy work to do.
Chu Feng nodded. “As long as they’re behaving.”
Shaman looked at him. “Are you planning to turn part of the castle into employee dormitories?”
Chu Feng nodded. “Yes.”
Qiu Luo rested his chin on his hand. “You’re really willing to give it up?”
Chu Feng laughed. “Of course. That huge castle needs people to live in it and maintain it.”
If such a large building was only visited occasionally by him and Illya, it’d become a haunted house in no time. Having more people around made everything livelier.
Qiu Luo gave him an odd look. “I heard Lan Hu is lobbying hard for a teacher’s dorm.”
Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. “Lan Hu really wants to settle down long-term?”
He then nodded. “Sure, why not?”
There were plenty of empty rooms—giving one to Lan Hu wasn’t a big deal.
Qiu Luo looked between him and Illya. “Enough about that. Chu Feng, since you have teleportation powers, why not visit a farther town? I heard there’s a winter market in Tianhai City. It attracts all kinds of traveling merchants. And now that we’re rich…”
Chu Feng thought it over. That’s right!
He had teleportation powers—he shouldn’t let them go to waste. He could instantly jump to major cities in the other world and experience different sights and cultures.
Why didn’t I think of that sooner?
Illya’s eyes lit up in surprise. There were so many places he’d once wanted to visit, but transport was inconvenient and travel time long. After coming to the real world, the local towns hadn’t impressed him much, so he’d lost interest.
Now that he’d gotten bored of real-world malls, he was suddenly intrigued by this otherworld winter market.
“Shaman, is there something you want us to buy for you?” Illya asked.
Qiu Luo nodded. “I heard they’ll be selling some rare plants in Tianhai City. If you go, please bring a few back.”
Chu Feng: So that’s it. This Shaman isn’t just suggesting a fun trip—he’s sending them out as deliverymen!
Come to think of it, with his teleportation ability, he’d be a top-tier shopping agent…
