Chapter 123: Calling the Police to Save Them
Chu Feng found Chu Anzhi and the others locked in a cell. Chu Anzhi looked weak and pale.
Chu Feng examined them briefly. They had likely been drained of blood, but weren’t in immediate danger. He said, “Let’s get out first.”
Illya nodded.
They found a phone booth, and Chu Feng had Illya call the police. To avoid attracting attention, he used his ability-user ability while calling. Chu Feng further masked the information by speaking through a modified mobile signal.
Illya looked at him and asked, “Is this really necessary for a simple police report?”
Chu Feng smiled. “It’s not easy being discreet! Just being cautious.”
Illya nodded. “Alright.”
“Let’s head over,” Chu Feng said.
“Now? To rescue them?”
Chu Feng shook his head. “Let’s see how strong the police response is, then act accordingly.”
If he only wanted to rescue Chu Anzhi, he could simply teleport in and out. But that would make things too obvious. The people who abducted Chu Anzhi were likely backed by a powerful organization—only a large group could secretly turn an abandoned building into such a high-level lab.
Chu Anzhi was just an ordinary person. If Chu Feng rescued him directly, it could cause endless trouble for him. Just like last time—when he saved someone with a elixir, they ended up being constantly harvested for blood.
It would be better to stir things up first, then rescue them amidst the chaos.
Chu Feng and Illya re-entered the underground lab. This time, they weren’t so lucky. The moment they entered, they triggered a special sensor. Alarms blared through the entire building, and the sound of heavy metal gates slamming shut echoed everywhere. The lab quickly transformed into a steel prison.
Chu Feng looked at the falling gates and thought, These people are very security-conscious. If we were ordinary people, we’d be completely trapped by now.
He quickly teleported himself and Illya away.
Illya sat on a tree branch with a puzzled look and said, “Why did the alarm go off? I clearly used my ability!”
Feng An thought to himself: Maybe it triggered some kind of special security system—could be a gravity sensor or some scanning device.
Illya’s invisibility can fool human eyes, but not necessarily the machines in the lab. The people inside probably sensed someone breaking in but couldn’t catch them, which caused a panic.
Soon, several vehicles drove out from the building.
Chu Feng narrowed his eyes and said, “They’re getting ready to move. Can you shoot out the tires?”
Illya twirled his wrist, and a golden, intricately patterned handgun appeared in his hand.
The dwarven pistol, recently improved multiple times, had already reached its third generation, with much-increased firepower. Illya had excellent aim—even though the cars were speeding, every shot landed. The bullets wrapped in gray mist were so powerful they didn’t just puncture the tires; they blew them apart. His rapid-fire shots quickly drew the attention of the others.
Although Illya was invisible, the enemy wasn’t clueless. They tracked the bullet trajectories and roughly pinpointed their location.
Chu Feng grabbed Illya and teleported them a short distance away.
The sound of car horns blared. Chu Feng heard police sirens and was pleasantly surprised. He didn’t expect the police to be much help, but at least they might tie up the enemy forces.
Illya looked at Chu Feng and said, “The ability-users have been split up. Chu Anzhi is in the fifth truck, and the Witch Stone is in the fourth.”
Compared to the others, Chu Anzhi was guarded rather loosely—probably because the ability-user research institute had realized he was just an ordinary person and not of much use.
Chu Feng smiled and said, “Let’s go get the Witch Stone.”
Illya responded excitedly, “Okay!”
Chu Feng teleported with Illya directly into the fourth truck. The Witch Stone was sealed inside a special metal container.
“Your people are impressive,” Illya said admiringly. “They managed to find something that can suppress the Witch Stone’s energy fluctuations so quickly. But it doesn’t seem quite as effective as what Beechas made.”
Chu Feng looked at Illya and said, “Forget that for now—let’s grab it and get out.”
Illya nodded. “Alright.”
Several police cars ran into the research lab’s people, and a skirmish broke out. The lab had many experts, while the police were ordinary folks—not really a match.
However, with Illya secretly helping, the lab didn’t gain the upper hand either. He destroyed three vehicles in a row, forcing the lab’s people to abandon their cars and flee.
Chu Feng watched from the sidelines and only left after confirming that Chu Anzhi and the others had been taken away by the police.
Back at the police station, officers were busy investigating.
“The tires were completely blown apart. This doesn’t look like gunfire—it’s more like a high-powered explosive.”
“These were bulletproof tires. Regular bullets wouldn’t even make a dent.”
“Even if they hit, the car should’ve kept running for a while.”
“Any bullet fragments recovered?”
“No bullet fragments. The bullets exploded completely. It’s incredible. Who knows when this kind of weapon hit the market? Maybe it’s an ability-user weapon. A lot of ability-users have their own custom gear.”
“Looks like we ran into a real pro.”
“Maybe even a hero type!” someone quipped.
Ever since the mass awakening of ability-users, some suddenly gained strong powers and went down the wrong path.
Some, disillusioned by society, dreamed of overthrowing the world. Others, obsessed with martial arts dramas, took up swords to fight for justice and help the helpless.
Shen Yutong took a deep breath and said, “Let’s hope it was the heroic kind.”
Even though she found the idea of a “hero” a bit childish, it was still better than dealing with social terrorists.
This whole situation had been salvaged thanks to that hidden ability-user.
“Officer Shen, we’ve pulled the surveillance footage.”
The police had been responding to an anonymous tip. At first, they thought it might’ve been a prank, but decided to act just in case.
Now, someone suspected that the caller was connected to the person who blew up the tires, so they reviewed the security footage.
Shen Yutong nodded and walked over to view the video.
In the footage, the phone receiver seemed to lift off the hook on its own—and then disappeared.
“What the hell? A ghost?”
Shen Yutong frowned. “Probably an invisible ability-user.”
The lab personnel had reported that someone might’ve infiltrated the underground lab before the incident, but their own surveillance didn’t capture anything unusual.
An officer frowned and said, “An invisible ability-user, huh? There really are all kinds of powers now.”
“Officer Shen.” A female officer rushed over.
“Officer Shen, a researcher just reported that there was a spirit stone in one of the vehicles, but during the inventory check, it was missing.”
Shen Yutong’s expression changed instantly. Spirit stones are rare items that can instantly boost an ability-user’s power. Every organization fights for them—each one is incredibly valuable. Losing one was a serious matter.
Shen thought to herself: Could it have been stolen while we were collecting materials? That shouldn’t have happened…
If the problem didn’t occur here, then it likely came from the person who made the call. Maybe they weren’t trying to “uphold justice,” but simply wanted to steal the spirit stone.
That suddenly felt much more plausible. How many people really fight for justice these days? More often than not, people take action when there’s something to gain.
Chu Feng and Illya teleported to an empty Western-style villa in the Capital. Real estate in the Capital was insanely expensive, but surprisingly, a lot of houses sat vacant—many wealthy people owned dozens of properties they barely lived in.
The one Chu Feng picked had been empty for over a year. No one ever came by.
Illya opened the fridge and let out a surprised “Wow!”
Chu Feng looked at her and asked, “What is it?”
“The fridge is full of money!” Illya Chu Feng took a deep breath as he looked at the stacks of cash inside. “That’s quite a lot!”
Chu Feng thought to himself: So there really are people who keep money in the fridge? I always thought that only happened on TV.
Illya glanced at Chu Feng and asked, “Can I take two bundles?”
Chu Feng nodded and said, “Of course you can. With that much money not in a bank but in a fridge, it’s obvious it didn’t come from a clean source.”
“Will we be found out?” Illya was both excited and a bit worried.
Chu Feng replied casually, “Even if we are, it’s no big deal.”
Even if they were discovered, the owner might not dare to report it. They’d probably help cover it up. Or maybe the owner was so rich they’d completely forgotten about this property. The house was thick with dust—it made sense that it might have been forgotten.
Illya searched the house again and found even more cash in the cabinets and under the bed.
He began bundling the money together and said, “There’s probably about three million here.”
Chu Feng nodded. “Roughly, yeah.”
Illya tilted her head and asked, “Is it really okay for me to take this much?”
Chu Feng smiled and said, “It’s fine. Just think of it as robbing the rich to help the poor.”
Illya nodded. “You’re right.”
“When are we going back to the villa?” He asked.
Chu Feng frowned, “You don’t like it here?”
“This is an international metropolis! Lots of good food and fun stuff to do—”
Illya shook his head. “Too many people.”
Chu Feng nodded. “True.” It was, after all, an international city—wherever you went, it was packed with people.
“Let’s wait until we’ve seen Chu Anzhi. After we meet with him, we’ll head back,” Chu Feng said.
Chu Feng thought to himself: My cousin Anzhi really hasn’t had a lucky year. But thanks to him, I managed to get two more witch stones. In a way, I should be grateful to him.
Chu Feng looked at the witch stones in his hand and narrowed his eyes. One was only the size of a marble, while the other was about as big as a baby’s fist. Even combined, they were only about two-thirds the size of the one he found in the ancient tomb.
“Should we give this stone to the Shaman Qiu Luo?” If his abilities improved, he might be able to make all kinds of spiritual elixirs, which would be beneficial for them.
Illya nodded. “Sure!”
