Chapter 120: The New Intruders
“Boss, the infirmary you mentioned has been set up. Do you want to take a look?” Chui Shi walked in and asked.
Chu Feng nodded. “Alright.”
He walked into the infirmary and nodded in satisfaction.
The infirmary was arranged much like one in the modern world. Entering it gave the impression of stepping into a modern hospital.
Seeing the medicine cabinet on the side, Chu Feng asked, “You bought a lot of common meds?”
Illya nodded. “Yes, I went to a pharmacy and bought a lot. The staff at several pharmacies even gave me membership cards.”
Chu Feng thought: The world’s going downhill! Even pharmacies are giving out membership cards now. But with all the intense competition across industries, if you don’t try to build customer loyalty, it’s easy to go out of business.
Illya crossed his arms and said, “Your side is really weird. There are three pharmacies in that small shopping area. Do people really need that much medicine? Everyone over there seems pretty healthy to me.”
“The people in Crescent Village used to rely on hunting, which had a high injury rate. The village shaman was always overwhelmed. But it’s different on my side. They don’t seem to need to do dangerous work, and yet pharmacies are everywhere.”
“It’s not just sick people who take medicine. Healthy people take meds too.”
Illya confused, “If healthy people take medicine, wouldn’t that make them sick?”
Chu Feng nodded, “Exactly. Once they get sick from the meds, they’ll need more meds—great for business! The pharmaceutical industry is a highly profitable one. With the current market downturn, most physical stores are struggling—clothing stores, restaurants—many are shutting down. But pharmacies are thriving.”
Hands on his hips, Chu Feng said, “Illya, do you think the shaman would be willing to come over now that the infirmary is set up like this?”
Without hesitation, Chui Shi replied, “Yes, definitely.”
Chu Feng looked at him, a bit puzzled. “How do you know?”
“The shaman already came by.”
“He did? How come I didn’t know?”
“You told Shaman Qiu Luo?”
Illya shook his head. “Nope. I was planning to surprise him.”
Chu Feng thought: If neither of them said anything, could it be that Qiu Luo found out on his own and came ahead of time to scout the place? Who would’ve thought—Qiu Luo might actually be an impatient type?
“Did the shaman say anything?” Chu Feng asked.
Chui Shi shook his head. “Not really. But he looked really happy! Seemed eager to move in. Not surprising though—the infirmary has air conditioning. Once it’s turned on, the place gets warm and cozy.”
Chu Feng stepped outside and saw Fei Ying .
Looking at him, Chu Feng asked, “What’s going on?”
Fei Ying frowned. “Some people came looking for us.”
“Another group that got lost?” Chu Feng asked.
Fei Ying shook his head. “No. There’s a squad of elf hunters, plus two nobles. Looks like the elf hunters were hired by the nobles to search for elf villages—and they found us.”
“What do you plan to do with them?” Chu Feng asked.
Fei Ying shook his head. “Don’t know yet.”
Feng Ying said with some difficulty, “I don’t have any extra slave rings on hand… We can’t let these people leak our location. We should just kill them.” Fei Ying said calmly.
Fei Ying thought to himself: There are already too many humans here; we can’t afford more. And this group is different—they include elf hunters. Our village has too many good things now. If these people escape, next time it won’t just be a small team.
Lan Hu shivered involuntarily after hearing that.
Lan Hu always felt that using second-hand slave rings was kind of demeaning. But at this moment, he suddenly felt that having any at all was good enough—no need to be picky.
Chu Feng looked at Illya. “Let’s go check it out.”
Illya nodded. “Okay.”
Fei Ying looked at Lan Hu. “Want to come too? Maybe you’ll recognize someone. I can fly you over.”
Lan Hu hesitated, then nodded. “Okay.”
“Five work tickets.”
Chu Feng rolled his eyes. So that’s what this is about. When did Fei Ying and Lan Hu become so friendly? Turns out it was a friendship based on monetary transactions. Money talks.
Chu Feng and Illya instantly vanished from the spot.
Watching them disappear, Fei Ying said enviously, “Boss Chu Feng is amazing!”
He could fly, yes—but flying still took time. Chu Feng could teleport from the castle to Crescent Village in an instant.
The new intruders were locked in a room. Chu Feng looked through the doorway and saw several humans with their hands tied behind their backs, trapped inside the room, looking confused and uneasy.
“What did the shaman say?” Chu Feng asked.
Delice stood with her hands on her hips and lifted her chin slightly. “The shaman said to starve them for now.”
Chu Feng nodded. “Makes sense.”
A few days of hunger will make them obedient. It’s already winter. When harvests are bad, even peasants only eat one meal a day. No reason to treat these prisoners to good food. Unlike Lan Hu or Shi Qi, these people came here for priceless elf resources. No need to be courteous.
Chu Feng glanced at Delice. “The village assigned you to watch them?”
Delice nodded. “Yep.”
Chu Feng: “…” What is the village thinking? Always assigning this pretty girl to guard prisoners. Aren’t they worried she’ll turn into a fierce little shrew?
Hands on hips, Delice said, “Back when Teacher Lan Hu got captured, he requested several buckets of instant noodles. He was so smug.”
“He’s a teacher now?” Chu Feng said.
Delice puffed her cheeks in annoyance. “Lan Hu becoming a teacher really went to his head. This time, we can’t let these people trample over us again. But I doubt many of them can read. Most of them will probably be doing manual labor.”
Delice leaned toward Chu Feng with a mysterious look. “Boss, did you know? That woman in the fire fox fur—she might be Lichiya!”
Chu Feng frowned. “Lichiya?” That name sounded familiar.
“Boss, do you think she came chasing after Lan Hu? Doesn’t make sense though—Lan Hu only left because she rejected him.”
Chu Feng looked at Delice and suddenly realized why the name sounded familiar—it was the woman Lan Hu used to like.
“You sure know a lot,” Chu Feng said.
Delice held her head high and said, “Of course!”
Chu Feng though: This little girl is really nosy! The one next to Lichiya, that Riye, also seemed like a damn noble. It looked like Riye and Lichiya were dating.
Chu Feng took a deep breath and thought of what Manning had mentioned before—Shi Qi having a crush on Lan Hu. This was shaping up to be a disaster! A fire pit waiting to happen! Chu Feng had originally hoped that if Shi Qi and Lan Hu spent enough time together here, feelings might gradually develop. But now with Lichiya showing up, things were bound to get complicated.
Chu Feng rubbed his nose and muttered to himself: he had to worry about villa construction, inter-racial diplomacy, and now his subordinates’ love lives? Better to let these people handle their own messes.
Lan Hu descended from the sky, carried by Fei Ying.
Chu Feng glanced at the two of them, gave a dry laugh, and said, “You’re here!”
Lan Hu looked at Chu Feng and asked, “Are the humans you captured inside?”
Chu Feng nodded. “They’re in there.”
“I want to take a look,” Lan Hu said, walking excitedly to the window and peering inside. Blinking in surprise, he said, “Why are they here?”
“Do you know the people inside?” Chu Feng asked.
Lan Hu hesitated a bit and replied, “Lichiya from the Rockefeller family is a friend of mine.”
Delice tilted her head and asked curiously, “A friend? Not a lover? Didn’t she dump you?”
Chu Feng glared at Delice. “Don’t talk nonsense.” You don’t hit someone in the face, and you don’t call out their humiliations! If Lan Hu says they’re friends, then they’re friends.
Lan Hu scratched his head awkwardly. “The other one is Riye, from the Morgan family.”
Delice asked curiously, “Is he your ex then? You two probably don’t get along well, right? Did you fight before? Could you beat him? He looks buffer than you.”
“We haven’t fought… but I think I’m stronger than him…” Lan Hu said.
Delice scoffed, “That’s not necessarily true. He looks muscular. You’re just full of fat.”
Chu Feng took a deep breath and asked, “Those two—are they from the other two major noble families in the Imperial Capital?”
Lan Hu nodded. “Yes.”
Chu Feng rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. What the hell was going on?! Somehow, he had gathered the direct heirs of all three major noble families from the capital in one place. And this was a wilderness zone, tens of thousands of miles from the capital! A bunch of spoiled young masters and ladies, instead of enjoying a lavish life in the capital, came running out here for ‘adventure’? Clearly bored out of their minds.
Killing them might cause serious trouble later, but just keeping them locked up wasn’t a real solution either.
Chu Feng asked, “How do their statuses at home compare to yours? Are they also unloved and neglected?”
Lan Hu: “…”
Since when was he unloved and neglected?
Chu Feng: “Does Riye have an older brother?”
Lan Hu nodded. Chu Feng responded with a quiet “Oh.” Good, not an only son. In their nobility system, it was the firstborn who inherited everything. The difference in status between first and second sons was massive.
Chu Feng glanced toward the prison cell. This should be handled by Shaman Qiu Luo.
Shi Qi walked over. Lan Hu waved him over and said, “Shi Qi, look—Lichiya is here.”
Chu Feng muttered, “This idiot… what does Shi Qi even like about this guy?”
Shi Qi walked to the window, looked inside, and said, “Young Master Riye is here too, huh.”
Originally, Riye and Lichiya were romantically involved. Lichiya had many admirers in the capital, and Riye wasn’t particularly outstanding among them.
When Lan Hu left the capital, his parents were actually relieved—he only brought embarrassment at home anyway. But after some time passed with no word from him, they started getting worried. The relationship between the Merdes family and the Rockefeller family began to subtly shift.
Lichiya had been unhappy in the capital, so she found an excuse to leave. Riye got wind of it and followed her out. Although many people chased after Lichiya, Riye wasn’t among the most prominent. But once they left the capital, he suddenly stood out.
Recently, their relationship had grown quickly. While traveling in the Falling Leaf Ridge, they stumbled upon rumors of an elven tribe deep within the Thorn Forest. Curious about elves, Lichiya agreed to an expedition that Riye suggested.
Riye now bit his lip in regret. After entering the forest, he’d wanted to turn back multiple times. But worried Lichiya would think he was cowardly and afraid of death, he forced himself to press on. If he had known things would turn out like this, he’d never have come to this damned place.
Lan Hu shook his head and said, “What was that idiot Riye thinking, leaving the capital?”
Chu Feng: “…You yourself weren’t thinking clearly when you left, and you’ve got the nerve to talk?”
“Shi Qi, do you think Lichiya’s gotten uglier?” Lan Hu asked.
Chu Feng: “…” This guy—he literally ran away from home for Lichiya, and now he’s saying she’s ugly?
Chu Feng had already seen Lichiya’s face—by modern standards, she’d be considered goddess-tier. But in the Crescent Village, there were too many beautiful women. Compared to someone like Qinglan, Lichiya indeed seemed a little less impressive.
Lan Hu peeked at the people inside for a bit, then lost interest and said, “Let’s go eat hotpot.”
Shi Qi stared at him for a moment, then nodded.
Aunt Snow Rabbit, who used to sell skewers, had recently switched to running a hotpot restaurant—and business was booming.
Chu Feng watched Lan Hu’s back and thought silently: The person you like is locked up in there, and instead of planning a rescue, you’re thinking about hotpot? This idiot. No wonder he got dumped.
Chu Feng looked at Illya and said, “Let’s go find the shaman.”
Illya nodded. “Alright.”
When Shaman Qiu Luo saw the two of them arrive, he put down his pestle and smiled. “You’re here.”
Illya nodded. “We’ve seen the ones who were captured.”
Qiu Luo looked at Chu Feng and asked, “What do you think should be done?”
Chu Feng said calmly, “Just handle it as you normally would. I won’t interfere.”
Qiu Luo nodded. “Alright then.”
Illya asked, “Are you going to execute them?”
Shaman Qiu Luo shook his head and said, “No need for that. Isn’t the castle short on manpower? Those lords at least count as laborers. It’d be a waste to kill them.”
Illya nodded. “That’s true. But humans are cunning. Without slave collars, they’re hard to control.”
“I’ve developed Heartbreak Powder,” the shaman added.
Illya was a bit puzzled. “Weren’t you short on ingredients?”
Shaman Qiu Luo nodded. “I was, but recently I managed to gather enough.”
Chu Feng was confused. “What’s Heartbreak Powder?”
Illya glanced at Chu Feng. “It’s a kind of drug used on prisoners. After ingesting it, they need to take an antidote every three days. Without it, their intestines will rot and they’ll die painfully.”
Chu Feng silently thought: …That brutal? No wonder you’re the shaman. You can even make something like that. Good thing I didn’t offend you.
With hands behind his back, Illya said, “If we have Heartbreak Powder, I think it’s manageable.”
Chu Feng looked at Illya and said, “I have no objections either.”
Shaman Qiu Luo took out a bundle and said, “These people are different from those from Lan Hu. They actually carry valuable stuff.”
Illya took the bundle and opened it. “Bauhinia Merchant Guild’s silver notes?”
Shaman Qiu Luo nodded. “Yes, totaling 80,000 gold coins.”
The Bauhinia Merchant Guild was extremely wealthy, with branches across the land. Anyone holding their silver notes could exchange them for gold coins at any of their stores.
Chu Feng nodded secretly, thinking: Now this is how nobles should be! That Lan Hu guy came over dirt poor.
Illya’s eyes lit up. “That’s a lot. Two years ago, this would’ve been an astronomical sum for Crescent Village. But now, such a huge amount doesn’t feel like much anymore.”
Shaman Qiu Luo looked at Illya. “Take the silver notes if you want. Use them to buy what you like.”
Illya shook his head. “Alright, but let’s leave them with you for now, shaman. We might ask you for them later.”
Qiu Luo nodded. “That’s fine.”
He used to want a lot of things but had no money. Now that he had money, he strangely didn’t want anything anymore.
