Fake Psychic Products

Chapter 115: Fake Psychic Products

Business at Lin Zhihao’s wood carving shop was booming. Meanwhile, the clothing stores next door were practically deserted.

“Why are those carvings selling so well?”

“They’re in high demand. Two guys just now tried to buy out the entire shop — even offered to pay extra.”

“Must be hired actors, right? Those carvings aren’t antiques.”

“Exactly. Rich people really don’t know what to do with their money these days.”

“I heard that shop also has an online store. Sales there are good too. A lot of buyers say the carvings have calming and meditative effects.”

“And that’s enough to charge such high prices?”

“I heard the carvings are somehow related to psychics.”

“No way. Don’t tell me they help people awaken powers or something.”

“If that’s true, then the high prices make sense.”

These days, anything remotely related to psychics would skyrocket in value.

“Can’t be helped. Wealthy people are obsessed. Someone online once said they’d pay 100 million to become a psychic — and got laughed at. People said even 10 billion wasn’t enough.”

After selling everything, Lin Zhihao closed up shop. A few employees from nearby stores came over to chat.

“Zhihao, heading out already?”

Lin Zhihao nodded. “Yep.”

“Did you really sell out all your carvings?”

He nodded again. “Yeah, everything’s gone.”

“That fast?!”

“Mhm.”

“With business that good, aren’t you getting a commission? Even just 1% would be huge.”

Lin Zhihao gave an awkward smile. “Nope, I’m on a fixed salary. How much the shop makes has nothing to do with me.”

“What a shame.”

Lin Zhihao shook his head. “Not really. The base salary is already generous. And now that everything’s sold out, I get a paid break until the next batch arrives.”

Chu Feng brought a pile of wooden carvings back to the villa in the real world and appeared inside it. He opened his phone and glanced at it—his eyes widened in shock.

Illya looked at Chu Feng and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Chu Feng shook his head and replied, “Nothing.”
It was just that his account balance suddenly increased by 80 million. The carvings must have all sold out. But… was the shop really doing that well? Why didn’t he know about it?

Still, with such a large income, he wouldn’t need to worry about money for a while. Although it felt a bit strange for such a huge sum to arrive so suddenly…

Chu Feng checked his messages and saw a few left by Lin Zhihao.
He glanced at Illya and said, “Go ahead and play for a bit. I’ll order some food delivery. Zhihao should be here soon.”

Illya nodded. “Okay.”

Not long after, Lin Zhihao’s car arrived at the front door.

“You’re quick!” Chu Feng said with a smile.

Lin Zhihao smiled back. “Not too bad.”

After all the wooden carvings sold out, Lin Zhihao had been trying to contact Chu Feng and only just now managed to reach him.

Chu Feng smiled. “Everything in the shop sold out?”

Lin Zhihao nodded. “Yeah! A couple of days ago, two people rushed in and bought everything. Each of them wanted it all to themselves.”

Chu Feng: “They both wanted it all? The carvings are really that popular?”

So they were too cheap. Way too cheap.

Lin Zhihao pursed his lips. “Before, someone online asked me if our wood carvings could ward off evil spirits.”

Chu Feng: “Do they really have that effect? Legend says peachwood can drive away evil spirits… maybe the wood we use also has that effect?”
Honestly, that wouldn’t be impossible.

Lin Zhihao tilted his head. “I don’t know if our carvings really ward off evil, but a lot of people left comments saying they have a calming effect.”

Chu Feng: “Calming, huh? That might actually be true.”

“Brother Feng, have you heard about the recent surge in supernatural events?”

Lin Zhihao said enthusiastically.

Chu Feng shook his head. “No.”
Lately, he’d been busy cultivating and jumping between worlds—he barely had time to check anything online.
He glanced at Illya, who had been spending more time online lately, but he only seemed interested in clearance sales.

“The most talked-about thing is the recent recruitment video by the ‘New World Alliance.’”

Chu Feng frowned. “New World Alliance? What’s that?”

“I’m not exactly sure either, but it’s been showing up a lot online.”

Lin Zhihao opened a video and said, “Watch this.”

In the video, a man condensed a knife out of thin air and sliced a car in half. Two men in black trench coats and sunglasses stood on top of a high-rise, looking smug. One of them said:

“The new world has arrived. If you’ve ability-users your power, you are now part of the new humanity. Join me, and let us rule this new world together!”

“…What is this, a recruitment ad?” Chu Feng muttered.

Chu Anzhi frowned. “Experts analyzed it—there’s no sign the video was edited.”

Chu Feng narrowed his eyes and thought, Really…?
He turned to Illya. “What do you think?”

Illya looked a bit uncertain. “Your special effects are very convincing here… it’s hard to tell.”

Lin Zhihao put away the tablet. “At first, I thought it was a joke too, but now tons of forums for ability users have popped up. Many organizations are recruiting like crazy. The fight for talent is intense.”

Chu Feng: “This video feels like some cult propaganda. Isn’t anyone cracking down on it?”

“They want to,” Lin Zhihao replied, “but the video spread too fast. They’ve tried to ban it, but the uploader is overseas, so it’s out of reach.”

“Brother Feng, check out this other video.”

Chu Feng played it and saw a little kid and an older child crossing the street when a Maserati came speeding toward them. Just as the car was about to hit, it suddenly flew sideways and crashed. The younger child fell to the ground but was unharmed.

“This one’s said to be real. Lots of people saw it happen. Later, a bunch of vehicles showed up and took both kids away. The video hit over 2 million views and made headlines, but it was taken down quickly. Still, people had already downloaded it and are sharing it in chat groups.”

Chu Feng took a deep breath watching the video. “Flipping a whole car—what a powerful ability!”

He had originally thought his own awakening gave him a head start, a huge advantage. But now even little kids had such incredible powers. It was… discouraging.

Illya pursed his lips and watched for a while. “That’s probably telekinesis—using mental power to move objects. But it’s not necessarily that powerful. Most likely, the kid’s power erupted in a moment of extreme danger.”

Chu Feng looked at Illya. “You mean it was a burst of superhuman strength?”

Illya nodded. “More or less. Power bursts come with risks. Some ability users can’t use their powers again for a long time after. In serious cases, they may lose them permanently.”

Chu Feng squinted, thinking, I knew it. That kid’s ability was too extreme.

Lin Zhihao, hearing the conversation, looked confused. “What are you two talking about?”

Chu Feng glanced at him and said, “I was just wondering when the food delivery will get here.”

Lin Zhihao: “…”
Really? Brother Feng is definitely brushing me off.

“Brother Feng, did you know? There are all sorts of ability-related items for sale online now.”

Chu Feng asked curiously, “Really? Like what?”
Abilities had only started emerging recently—merchandise was already out? These merchants had sharp noses, that’s for sure.

Lin Zhihao blinked. “They’re selling Awakening Potions—3,000 a bottle. Supposedly, they can increase the chance of awakening by 10%.”

Chu Feng’s eyes widened in shock. “Does it actually work?”

Lin Zhihao shook his head and said, “There probably weren’t any side effects. Afterward, they found out that the shop owner used to sell shady, unregulated drinks. Originally, he couldn’t sell a bottle even for three yuan, but after rebranding them as ‘superpower awakening potions,’ sales skyrocketed.”

Chu Feng: “A regular, unregulated drink… selling for three thousand a bottle? That’s robbery! Suddenly those wood carvings from Mu Li’s shop feel cheap in comparison!”

“They say he was arrested after being reported by a competitor,” Lin Zhihao added.

Chu Feng: “Are unregulated products really that popular?”

Lin Zhihao shrugged. “These days, lots of companies are recruiting superpowered individuals, offering annual salaries in the millions. Once you become one, you won’t have to worry about finding love either. You could say that gaining superpowers can instantly change your fate.”

Chu Feng nodded. “You’re right.” His own fate had changed because of his powers gained through crossing worlds. If he were still an ordinary guy, maybe he would’ve tried one of those shady 3,000 yuan drinks himself.

“When one shady merchant falls, thousands more take their place. There are at least thirty different types of so-called ‘awakening potions’ or drinks being sold online right now.”

Chu Feng: “There’s one called Blue Paradise’ that claims to increase your awakening rate by 50%. One guy who drank it ended up in the hospital getting his stomach pumped. Another even died from poisoning.”

Chu Feng thought silently: These swindlers today are truly shameless. Selling fake potions is one thing—but selling something lethal? That’s going way too far.
