Modern-Day Goods

Chapter 113: Modern-Day Goods

Inside the room.

Lan Hu was crunching away at the chips—crack crack crack—and finished the whole bag in no time.

Lan Hu said in disappointment, “This bag is so big, but there’s so little inside. Seriously.”

Shi Qi looked at Lan Hu and sighed. “Young Master, you really should consider losing some weight.”

Lan Hu scratched his head and replied, “Let’s talk about that later.”

Shi Qi rolled her eyes. As a noble, gaining several kilos in the first month of being a slave—he might be one of a kind. “Didn’t you ever think about escaping?” she asked.

Lan Hu shook his head and replied with a serious face, “I’m a slave now. How could I run away?” Running away is way too dangerous!

Shi Qi rolled her eyes again. “…Whether you can escape is one thing. Whether you want to is another. Judging from how you look now, you’re clearly enjoying yourself and don’t want to leave.”

Lan Hu looked at her and said, “Shi Qi, isn’t being a prisoner here actually pretty good? We’ve got food, clothes, and no one yells at us. You really don’t need to overthink things.”

Shi Qi: “…”
She had been a slave all along, so this didn’t feel like anything new. But the young master used to be nobility and was still so calm—it was a bit surreal.

“Young Master, how many labor vouchers do you have? Lend me a few, won’t you?” Lan Hu asked sheepishly.

Shi Qi looked at him, a bit helpless. “Young Master, what are you planning to buy this time? You already bought that mole doll, and within two days, you smashed it.”

The “mole” she mentioned was a stuffed toy. If you hit the mole on the head, it would squeak—chirp chirp chirp. The village kids loved it, and Lan Hu bought one too.

Lan Hu looked a little embarrassed. “I didn’t expect the doll to be that fragile!”

“It’s getting colder by the day. I think we should start saving up for some blankets,” Shi Qi said.

Lan Hu nodded. “That does make sense.”

There were so many good things in Crescent Village. If he could drive that car and load it up with goods to take back, he’d surely make quite a splash. If that happened, even his parents might look at him with newfound respect. The beauties of the capital would probably see him in a whole new light too.

As far as he knew, Chu Feng had used exactly this kind of approach to win over the many hot-headed folks of Crescent Village.

Shi Qi looked at Lan Hu curiously and asked, “Young Master, what are you thinking about?”

Lan Hu pulled himself back from his thoughts and smiled. “Oh, nothing, nothing at all.”

Looking at the way Lan Hu was nearly drooling, Shi Qi thought: The young master must be daydreaming again.

While the two of them were chatting, a knock came from the door.

Shi Qi opened it and saw Hu Xiaosan. “What are you doing here?”

Hu Xiaosan said while wagging her fluffy tail, “A few of the humans are handing out clothes. Do you guys want to come check it out?”

Hu Xiaosan had a very full, fluffy tail, and as she spoke, the big tail swayed back and forth. It made Shi Qi really want to reach out and touch it.

Lan Hu asked curiously, “Do I get one too?”

Hu Xiaosan thought for a moment. “Not sure!”

Lan Hu nodded. “I’ll go check it out anyway.”
Even if he didn’t get anything, joining in the excitement was good enough.

Lan Hu hurried to the distribution site, which was buzzing with energy. He saw the truck loaded with clothes, and a few villagers picking out what they wanted. Some people had already put on the clothes right on the spot.

Halfway through the distribution, Chu Feng arrived. Seeing that the crowd had already put on their pajamas, Chu Feng noted that everyone’s expression was more and more smug—like they weren’t wearing sleepwear that cost less than 100 yuan, but custom luxury pieces worth millions.

Lan Hu approached Chu Feng, a bit obsequiously, and called out, “Boss Chu.”

Chu Feng glanced at Lan Hu and said, “What is it?”

Lan Hu looked a bit embarrassed and said, “Boss, I didn’t register… this outfit—”

Chu Feng smiled and said, “Just go register with Hall.”

Lan Hu brightened up and said, “Really?”

Chu Feng nodded. “Of course.”

With Chu Feng’s approval, Lan Hu left happily. Watching him leave, Chu Feng shook his head and thought: Lan Hu, that spoiled rich kid, really has no backbone. Just hearing that he could get a pair of pajamas got him all giddy and eager. He comes from one of the three great noble families in the royal capital. Even if he’s not the heir, he’s never lacked food or clothing. Yet just one piece of clothing is enough to sway him? No self-restraint at all.

Chu Feng stood by the vehicle, his eyes casually sweeping across the crowd.

“You look really good in that,” Sterling said to Duvian.

Duvian smiled and replied, “Do I?”

Sterling nodded. “You look warm and cozy.”

Chu Feng: People from Crescent Village even compliment others like this?
He’d heard Sterling and Duvian might become a couple. If they really did, maybe he should prepare a wedding gift.

Qing Lan pulled Illya aside. “Did you bring the things I asked for?”

Illya brought over a box. “Everything’s in here.”

She pulled out a bra and said, “Look at this one—it’s got an underwire, so things won’t sag.”

Chu Feng, standing off to the side and listening to their conversation, was speechless.
Why did I ever think people here were conservative? I really overthought it.
Talking about bras, in broad daylight and in front of everyone—was that really appropriate?

Lan was excited. “This is great! With this, those two lumps on my chest won’t keep drooping. I was thinking about cutting them off!”

Chu Feng: “…”
Women in this world are seriously intense! But also… what the hell is she even saying?
Qing Lan looked like at least an E cup—something countless women in his world dreamed of. And here she was, calling it a burden and wanting to cut it off.
She really has no idea how lucky she is.

As Qing Lan and Illya continued talking, a few more people gathered.

“This is the thing that’s like a chest wrap, right? Looks pretty good,” said Tilly.

“I want one too!” said Lise, excitedly.

Tilly glanced at Lise and pouted, “What do you need it for? You’re so small, you can’t even use one yet. And even when you grow up… well, some people just don’t.”

Lise, flustered and indignant, shot back, “That’s nonsense! I’ll grow up—I’ll grow bigger than you!”

To prove her point, she puffed out her tiny chest.

Tilly crossed her arms. “And what would you do with them if they were that big?”

Lise lifted her chin proudly. “None of your business.”

Chu Feng: The customs in this world are seriously wild. People argue about stuff like this right out in the open?

“What is this thing, anyway?” Qing Lan asked.

Illya shook her head. “No idea. Ask Chu Feng, but he won’t say. Seriously.”

Qing Lan glanced at Illya. “Maybe Chu Feng doesn’t know either. Even if he’s amazing, that doesn’t mean he knows everything.”

Illya shook her head. “He knows. He’s just not telling us. His ability told him something, and he’s hiding it on purpose.”

Tilly waved a sanitary pad in front of Chu Feng. “Boss Chu, how exactly do you use this? Come on, don’t be stingy!”

Chu Feng turned away, face flushed.
My skin still isn’t thick enough. If only I were a bit more shameless…

Qing Lan opened one of the sanitary pads, looked at it, then sniffed it. Suddenly, a realization seemed to dawn on her, and she packed the whole bag away. “I think I know what this is for now.”

Illya looked surprised. “Really? You figured it out? What is it for?”

Tilly and the others stared at her, annoyed. “Say it! What’s with the secrecy?”

Qing Lan now understood how Chu Feng felt.

After distributing the clothes, Chu Feng and Illya returned to the castle.

The two of them continued absorbing power from the Witch Stone. Over time, their ability to withstand its energy grew stronger and stronger.

Chu Feng placed his hand on the Witch Stone and felt a stream of energy rushing into his body. The flow accelerated, and impurities began to rise to the surface of his skin. As the energy circulated, more and more impurities emerged. After a long while, Chu Feng finally finished his cultivation.

When he came to, Chu Feng noticed he stank all over.

Illya tilted her head at him. “Your power seems to have increased again.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Seems like it.”

Illya looked him over. “Your strength is rising fast. Your aura’s almost on par with mine now.”

Chu Feng smiled. “Really?”
Even among ability users, talent varies. He probably belonged to the more gifted category.

Looking at the Witch Stone in his hand, Chu Feng saw that it had already changed from when he first got it.

Illya wrinkled her nose. “Let’s go wash up over there.”

Was Illya implying he smelled?

Chu Feng gave a sheepish smile. Yeah, I probably do stink right now…

He took Illya back to the villa. Chu Feng found that his control over his powers had grown significantly. At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before he could freely travel between the real world and this otherworld.

Back at the villa, Chu Feng headed straight for the bathroom. This cultivation session had yielded major results—he scrubbed off a thick layer of grime from his body.

After his shower, he stood in front of the mirror, examining himself from all angles.

Illya walked by and asked, “Why have you been standing in front of the mirror so long?”

Chu Feng tilted his head. “Don’t you think… my skin looks a lot better?”

He never thought he was bad-looking, but standing next to someone like Illya always made him feel a bit plain. Looking a little better was something to be happy about.

Illya considered it. “Yeah, your skin has improved. You even look a bit younger.”

Chu Feng rubbed his face. Am I… aging in reverse?

He asked, “Do you think if I look younger, my lifespan will increase too?”

Illya nodded. “Probably. Your body’s in better shape now, so naturally you’ll live longer.”
