Tomb Aftermath

Chapter 111: Tomb Aftermath

After eating with Chu Anzhi, the two returned to the villa. Illya was lazily sprawled out on the couch, looking boneless and utterly relaxed.

Chu Feng looked at him with some confusion. “Why are you lying like that?”

Illya’s posture was unmistakably what people online call the “Ge You slouch.”

Illya lazily lifted his head and glanced at Chu Feng. “I saw a lot of people lying like this online.”

Chu Feng rolled his eyes and thought: Ever since Illya learned how to use the internet, what kind of weird stuff has he been absorbing?

As the saying goes: “It takes ten years to learn something good, and three minutes to learn something bad.”

Chu Feng seriously wondered if he was the one who had spoiled Illya.

Illya tilted his head and looked at Chu Feng. “What are you thinking about?”

“N-nothing,” Chu Feng replied awkwardly. Beautiful people really are different… Anyone else lying like that would look sloppy, but Illya makes it look… kind of seductive.

“Want to go shopping?” Chu Feng offered enthusiastically.

Illya shook his head. “No need.”

Chu Feng blinked. “Lost interest in shopping already? That was fast. Weren’t you really into it just a little while ago?”

Illya looked at him and said, “Isn’t there online shopping? I heard it’s really convenient—and cheaper, too.”

Chu Feng nodded. “That’s true.”

Illya grumbled, “Why didn’t you tell me about it before?”

Chu Feng shrugged. “You never asked.”

Illya nodded thoughtfully. Fair point. “I compared the prices between online stores and physical stores—online stuff is way cheaper. Plus, I don’t have to disguise myself as a human to shop online.”

Chu Feng rubbed his neck, thinking: Is Illya about to evolve from a mall shopping maniac… into an online shopping maniac?

“This time, we should be able to bring more things over,” Illya said with passion. Previously, when he traveled through the underground tomb, he hadn’t brought anything. He ended up staying there for more than seven days. Although he had a large stockpile of supplies, it was always an outflow with no replenishment, and he wasn’t absorbing the energy of the Witch Stone either.

Chu Feng’s power had increased significantly. According to previous patterns, the stronger he became, the wider the spatial tunnel between the two worlds. With the help of the Witch Stone, his abilities had advanced rapidly, so it wasn’t impossible that he could now carry twice as much material as before.

Illya sat in front of the TV, playing on his phone while watching television. Chu Feng shook his head and muttered inwardly, Illya is really starting to show signs of becoming a shut-in!

Chu Feng sat on the sofa and took out the tightly wrapped Witch Stone, trying hard to absorb its energy.

The Witch Stone was incredibly valuable. Even though its aura had been temporarily sealed, Chu Feng didn’t feel safe leaving such a treasure lying around. It was better to use it quickly and lock in the gain.

Hugging the stone, Chu Feng cultivated for several hours straight. When he finally opened his eyes, Illya’s face was right in front of him.

“You’re awake?” Illya asked.

Chu Feng blinked. “Yeah! Have you been waiting long? Are you hungry?”

Illya shook his head. “No.”

“Then do you want to use the Witch Stone?”

Illya shook his head again and handed Chu Feng a tablet. “Take a look at this.”

Chu Feng glanced at the tablet. It displayed a news article:

Massive Explosion at Ghost Village Cemetery; Swarm of Poisonous Insects Emerge — Ghost Village Revealed to Be the Original Scorpion Village!

Chu Feng frowned. “It actually made the headlines?”

Illya also frowned. “The tomb was blown open with explosives.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Seems that way.”

Chu Feng thought to himself: I wonder which group of tomb raiders did that. To use such extreme methods… Maybe they were also after the Witch Stone. Because the stone’s aura disappeared, they resorted to violent tactics. If that’s the case, and someone finds out the Witch Stone is in my possession, it could be big trouble.

Outside Ghost Village, a man in a Gray robe and another in a black robe were engaged in a heated argument.

“The commotion was too big — it’s already alerted the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities,” the black-robed man said.

The Gray-robed man frowned. “I wanted to take it slow too, but something unexpected happened in the tomb. The item might’ve been taken.”

He covered his face, clearly troubled. “We really can’t sense the spirit stone’s aura anymore. Even the instruments that detect spiritual energy are picking up nothing.”

Inside the ancient tomb, it’s filled with ghostly spirits. Ordinary people entering would be doomed without a doubt.
Even if a few people could somehow be immune to the ghostly scorpion spirits, it would still be impossible to reach the deeper chambers of the tomb. You saw it yourself—the passage was sealed with layers of heavy stone. There’s no way anyone could’ve gotten in ahead of us,” said the black-robed man.

“That’s true,” he admitted. “But there could be exceptions. Lately, a number of strange ability-users have been appearing.”

Chu Feng rubbed his temples and thought to himself: Is Illya evolving from a shopping mall addict to a full-on online shopping maniac?

“This time, we should be able to bring more stuff over!” Illya said enthusiastically.

Last time, when they came from the underground tomb, he hadn’t brought anything at all. He ended up staying there for more than seven days. Though he had a decent stock of supplies, they had only been used up, not replenished—and he didn’t absorb much of the Witch Stone’s energy.

Chu Feng’s strength had grown significantly. Based on previous patterns, the stronger he became, the wider the space-time tunnel between the two worlds would be. With the Witch Stone’s assistance, his abilities had skyrocketed. Carrying double the amount of supplies he used to shouldn’t be impossible.

Illya sat in front of the TV, playing on his phone while watching a show. Chu Feng shook his head and thought to himself, Illya is seriously on his way to becoming a shut-in.

Chu Feng sat on the couch and took out the tightly wrapped Witch Stone, focusing on absorbing the energy within.

The Witch Stone was far too valuable. Although its aura was temporarily sealed, he didn’t feel safe leaving such a treasure lying around. It was better to use it quickly—“a stone in the hand is better than one lost,” after all. Chu Feng held the stone and trained for several hours.

When he finally opened his eyes, Illya’s face was right in front of his.

“You’re awake?” Illya asked.

Chu Feng blinked. “Yeah! Have you been waiting long? Hungry?”

Illya shook his head. “No.”

“Want to use the Witch Stone?”

Illya shook his head again and handed a tablet to Chu Feng. “Take a look at this.”

Chu Feng took it and glanced at the screen—it was a news article:

“Massive Explosion at Ghost Village Tomb — Swarms of Venomous Insects Emerge. Ghost Village Revealed to Be the Former Scorpion Village.”

Chu Feng frowned. “It actually made the trending news?”

Illya also frowned. “Looks like the tomb was blown open with explosives.”

Chu Feng nodded. “Seems that way.”

He thought to himself: I wonder which group of tomb raiders did it. Using such violent methods—maybe they were after the Witch Stone too. Because its aura disappeared, they resorted to explosives. If people find out the Witch Stone is in my hands, that’ll be big trouble…

Outside Ghost Village, a man in a Gray robe and another in a black robe were arguing heatedly.

“The commotion was too much—it’s already drawn the attention of the National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities,” said the black-robed man.

The Gray-robed man frowned. “I wanted to proceed slowly too, but something unexpected happened in the tomb. The item might have already been taken.”

“That doesn’t make sense!”

The Gray-robed man’s face darkened. “We really can’t sense the spiritual stone’s aura anymore. Even the instruments for detecting spiritual energy aren’t picking up anything.”

“The tomb is full of ghostly scorpion spirits—ordinary people going in would die for sure. Even if some people are immune to those spirits, getting into the deeper tomb chamber is impossible. You saw it yourself—the passage was completely sealed with stone. No one could’ve gotten in before us!” said the black-robed man.

“What you’re saying makes sense, but… there could still be exceptions,” he added. “Recently, a lot of strange ability-users have emerged. Is it possible someone could teleport directly into the tomb?”

The black-robed man frowned. “Even if someone had the ability to enter, the tomb is crawling with ghostly scorpion spirits. Surrounded by those things, not even bones would remain. These scorpions aren’t simple! Even with your insect control abilities, you still can’t handle them, can you?”

The man in the Gray robe frowned and said, “That’s true. Among these insects, there’s definitely a Scorpion King, and its abilities are extremely powerful.”
Because of the Scorpion King’s presence, he had been unable to fully control the swarm of scorpions.

“Could it be that the spirit stone was absorbed by the ghostly scorpions?” he asked.

The Gray-robed man furrowed his brow. “That’s also possible.”

Earlier, in order to quickly locate the items buried in the tomb, the Gray-robed man had used a large amount of explosives to blast the tomb open. After the explosion, the place was filled with corpses of ghostly scorpions.

The black-robed man shook his head. “Since the aura has vanished, the item must be gone. The National Bureau of Paranormal Abilities has already caught wind of this—we’d better leave quickly.”

The Gray-robed man squinted his eyes. “Even if the spirit stone is no longer there, there should still be plenty of burial goods. Based on our previous investigation, this is definitely a large tomb—it might even belong to a noble or a royal.”

“ability-users are human too, and humans are always tempted by wealth.”

“But the tomb is sealed shut in layers,” the black-robed man said seriously. “If we keep using explosives, we might collapse the entire tomb. Not to mention the scorpions.”

The scorpions in the tomb were extremely venomous and difficult to control. Although the Gray-robed man could direct their movements to some extent, it wasn’t foolproof.

The Gray-robed man gritted his teeth, unwilling to give up. “Fine. Let’s leave for now.”

After the black-robed and Gray-robed men left, a number of police vehicles arrived at the scene. Several special forces soldiers set up a perimeter and cordoned off the area. Fully armed operatives entered Ghost Village.

“General Shen, this place seems strange. It’s said that villagers who lived here didn’t live long.”

“That’s just superstition. The people who died here before were most likely poisoned. Be extra cautious of those scorpions.”

“Sir, the scorpions that appeared in the tomb are probably ghostly scorpions, though it’s unclear why they’ve grown so large.”

General Shen frowned. Ghostly scorpions are extremely toxic, but they’re very rare. The ones in this tomb are far too large—they must have mutated.

He looked toward a woman adjusting an instrument and asked, “Are you detecting any energy fluctuations?”

The woman nodded at Shen and replied, “There’s still a trace of residual energy, but it’s almost gone now.”

Shen furrowed his brows. “Could there have been a spirit stone here?”

The online discussions about ability-users only started trending recently, but in reality, the government had noticed something months ago—some unknown elements in the air were beginning to shift. Research into ability-users had already begun months earlier.

Spirit stones can enhance the abilities of ability-users. These stones are believed to have fallen from meteorites and are scattered across the world. Before the great transformation of the world, the energy in most spirit stones had been sealed. But after the transformation, they were reactivated.

So far, the government has already collected seven or eight spirit stones—all of them are securely stored in a top-secret national laboratory.

Spirit stones are incredibly attractive to ability-users.
The higher-ups understand their value, and it seems that some underground ability-user organizations have also gotten wind of it. In just the past few days, several battles have broken out over spirit stones.

Ability-users possess some truly unbelievable abilities, and not all of them are willing to side with the government. Some radical ability-users believe they are the new rulers chosen by heaven and earth, and that ordinary humans are nothing more than stepping stones for them. They stir up chaos everywhere they go, and these people have made maintaining public order increasingly difficult.

Although the government has tried to keep things under wraps, the power of the internet is vast. News about Ghost Village is spreading wildly online.

Inside the house, Chu Anzhi opened WeChat. A lot of people had messaged him.

“Anzhi, when do you plan on returning to the academy?”

Chu Anzhi rolled his eyes. “I lost a lot of blood. I’d like to properly recover before going back.”

Sha Yihang nodded and gave an awkward laugh. “Right. You should definitely take time to heal—eat more blood-nourishing food.”

Sha Yihang continued talking to himself: “I heard a lot of people want to go to Ghost Village.”

“The scorpions discovered there seem to be a new species. Some students are even thinking of catching a few to use as specimens.”

Chu Anzhi replied, “Those people didn’t know what Ghost Village really was before. They thought the rumors were just exaggerated, so they went. But now they know…”

“Now that they know what’s really in Ghost Village, and they still want to go catch scorpions? They must have a death wish.”

“Anzhi, did you know? The scorpions in Ghost Village seem to feed on corpses. That’s probably why their venom is so deadly. And apparently, there’s even a cave there where bodies thrown in just vanish.”

Chu Anzhi felt his scalp go numb and said speechlessly, “None of that has anything to do with me.”

Sha Yihang gave an embarrassed laugh. “I was just making conversation.”

“By the way, how are Chen Yibo and Lu Junhan doing?” Anzhi asked.

Sha Yihang frowned. “Their lives were saved, but they’re not fully recovered. I heard the doctors were completely useless—at first they all fought for credit, and when things went south, they just kept blaming each other. Honestly, the only reason those two recovered at all was because of your blood.”

Chu Anzhi gave a dry laugh. “Is that so?”
So his blood is really that potent… No wonder so many people are after it.
