Chapter 110: The Unlucky Chu Anzhi
A sharp screech rang out as a massive scorpion lunged toward them—it was the same one they had encountered before.
Illya fired his gun to block the attack. The bullets, now wrapped in black mist, were much more powerful than before. Chu Feng looked at the Scorpion King; although many of the scorpions in the tomb had visibly shrunk over the past few days, this one had actually grown fatter.
Enemies meeting again naturally feel intense hatred. Chu Feng had the sense that the Scorpion King still remembered him. When he saw the half-eaten scorpion tail in its mouth, his heart skipped a beat.
Is it… eating its own kind?
Maybe it was benefiting from what it ate—because it had cannibalized others, it hadn’t wasted away?
Illya glanced at Chu Feng. “Try teleporting us out.”
Chu Feng quickly replied, “Got it.”
Just as he was about to activate his ability—BOOM! A loud explosion echoed through the tomb.
Chu Feng frowned. Is someone blowing up the tomb? They’re really going all out with the explosives. Shouldn’t grave robbers be stealthy? This is absurd.
He grabbed Illya’s hand and activated his teleportation ability.
“We made it out!” Chu Feng said in surprise.
Illya looked around and said, “We’re still within the ghost village’s boundaries.”
The bizarre patterns in the tomb seemed to interfere with teleportation. However, after spending several days in the other world improving his abilities, Chu Feng had just barely managed to break through the restriction.
“Should we head home now?” Illya asked.
Chu Feng nodded. “Yeah, let’s go home.”
He thought to himself: There’s a group of insane tomb robbers camped out here now. No idea who they are, but since I’ve already taken the tomb’s most valuable item, the rest can be theirs—if they’re capable of getting it. That Scorpion King isn’t going to make it easy.
Chu Feng held Illya’s hand and focused on his villa.
A flash of white light—and they reappeared on a road near the villa.
“Did we make it?” Illya asked.
Chu Feng shook his head. “Seems like there was a bit of a miscalculation.”
A car sped past them. The woman in the passenger seat looked alarmed. “Honey, did you just see two people by the roadside?”
The driver frowned. “It’s the middle of the night. Who would be out here?”
“I swear I saw someone…,” the woman mumbled.
The driver gripped the wheel tighter. “Let’s get out of here. I heard two people died on this road a few days ago.”
The car sped off.
Chu Feng and Illya stepped out from the shadows.
“I think we were mistaken for ghosts,” Illya said.
Chu Feng nodded. “Seems like it.”
Teleportation in this world is a bit of a hassle, Chu Feng thought. Even in the middle of the night, it’s hard not to get noticed.
Illya added, “Next time, I’ll use my power to cloak both of us. We’ll only become visible after making sure no one’s around.”
Chu Feng: “That actually sounds like a good plan. Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
“If I’d known, we wouldn’t have been mistaken for ghosts. I bet there’ll be ghost sightings on the news soon,” he added wryly.
Illya puffed out his cheeks. “I didn’t think of it either!”
After a good night’s sleep, Chu Feng called Chu Anzhi, only to learn that he’d gone back to his hometown.
Since he was back, Chu Feng arranged to meet him at a restaurant.
“Brother Feng, you’ve been off the grid for days!” Chu Anzhi said, shaking his head. Last time you disappeared for three or four days. This time it was almost a week!
Chu Feng replied calmly, “You should focus more on your studies. Your cousin here is doing well in his career and has a beautiful, caring partner—you don’t need to worry about me.”
Hearing that, Illya gave Chu Feng a bright smile. His beauty could light up spring itself. Even though Chu Anzhi was a straight guy, he had to admit Illya was stunning.
But showing off like this in front of someone who just escaped death and got dumped—is this really okay?
Clenching his teeth, Chu Anzhi broke his chopsticks. “Why so many dishes? Is this because I just got out of the hospital? Are you fattening me up?”
Chu Feng: My cousin is such an idiot.
“No, Illya just likes to eat, so I ordered more,” he replied casually.
Chu Anzhi frowned. “Why’d you go home anyway? Weren’t you supposed to be studying hard and making progress every day?”
Chu Anzhi sighed. “I wanted to. But the situation didn’t allow it.”
Chu Feng looked confused. “Why not? Was someone bothering you?”
Chu Anzhi scowled. “People keep trying to draw my blood.”
“Draw your blood?”
He sighed again. “There were several of us bitten. Three, to be exact. I was the most seriously injured. The other two—when their parents saw me recover fully—they came asking if I’d taken any medicine. I said no, but they didn’t believe me.”
He continued, “At first, the hospital doctors tried to take all the credit, saying they cured me. But when my classmates didn’t get better, they started blaming each other. Then someone suggested my blood must have antibodies. They began drawing it to try to save the others.”
Chu Feng thought: He did take the detox elixir. Maybe there’s some residual medicine in his blood?
“Did it help?” he asked.
Chu Anzhi nodded. “Apparently, yes. The other two pulled through.”
Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. I could’ve saved them myself with my abilities. But we weren’t close—no reason to go out of my way.
“At first, they only took a little. But then it got out of hand. Every other day, someone came asking for more. Not just the patients’ families—even the hospital doctors wanted to extract it for research. They pushed my blood donation up to the maximum safe limit a normal person can handle.”
Chu Anzhi felt that if things kept going the way they were, he might die from excessive blood loss. So, he applied for a fifteen-day leave from the academy, planning to lay low for a while and see how things developed.
“Brother Feng, have you seen the posts online?”
Chu Feng looked puzzled. “Posts? What posts?”
Chu Anzhi tilted his head. “People are saying there’ve been a lot of new ability users showing up everywhere—some with incredible strength, some who are extremely fast, and some who can eat an absurd amount.”
Chu Feng raised an eyebrow. “That’s not so unusual, is it? People who can eat a lot have always existed—aren’t there tons of competitive eating contests?”
He glanced at Illya beside him, who was eating with great enthusiasm, and smirked. Illya was especially good at eating. According to him, his body could generate gray mist that allowed food to be absorbed quickly. That meant he could eat as much as he wanted without any issue.
Chu Feng thought to himself: Illya’s ability is really beyond comprehension… probably something food lovers would kill for.
Chu Anzhi frowned and shook his head. “Not that kind of thing.”
Chu Feng frowned too. “Then what kind?”
“Abilities that are… not normal.” Chu Anzhi thought for a moment and said, “Like this one painter—they say he painted an entire building in a single night.”
Chu Feng blinked. “That’s actually impressive. With that kind of efficiency, a million-yuan annual salary wouldn’t be a dream at all.”
“Don’t look down on painters. Sure, it’s not a high-profile job, but some skilled ones easily make ten thousand yuan a month. If someone can work that fast, any real estate developer would pay big bucks to keep them. That’s real talent.”
Chu Anzhi shook his head. “Brother Feng, that’s not the point. A normal person couldn’t paint an entire building in one night, even without rest.”
Chu Feng nodded. “True enough.”
Anzhi furrowed his brows. “They say he did it while half-asleep, like in a dream. There were even photos. But then the internet tried to debunk it, saying it was the work of hundreds of laborers working around the clock. But eyewitnesses said there weren’t that many workers at all.”
“They say awakening abilities has something to do with a person’s strongest desires.”
Chu Feng thought: So because he was a painter, he ability-users some strange painting ability?
Then why did I end up with the power to travel between worlds? Back when I was a delivery guy, I vaguely remember wishing I could teleport so deliveries wouldn’t be such a hassle… and now I really do have that ability. But if I used it for deliveries, I’d probably scare people to death…
“I heard that guy was taken away by people from some research institute. If things go badly, he might end up dissected.”
Chu Feng: “…Getting dissected? That’s a bit much… though, not entirely impossible.”
Chu Anzhi rested his chin on his hand. “Brother Feng, have you heard? Lately, a lot of people have claimed to have seen ability users.”
Chu Feng lowered his head and thought: The way I got my powers was pretty strange… maybe there’s a trigger of some kind. Maybe other people have gotten the same kind of opportunity I did.
“Some people think I have an ability too,” Chu Anzhi said.
“You?” Chu Feng asked. “What ability do they think you have?”
“Immunity to all poisons,” Anzhi replied.
Chu Feng rolled his eyes. “Don’t overthink it. You only survived because of the detox elixir.”
Anzhi scratched his head. “Yeah, I don’t think I actually have powers either. But the way my body recovered was kinda strange. Anyway, I’m fine now, so no need to dwell on it.”
Anzhi nodded. “By the way, cousin, I couldn’t reach you earlier. My dad wanted me to give you that card.”
Chu Feng shook his head. “You keep it. Just consider it a gift from me.”
Anzhi frowned. “I can’t accept that… isn’t that inappropriate?”
Especially considering that when Uncle asked Chu Feng for money, he outright refused.
But Chu Feng just waved it off. “It’s not a big deal.” Truthfully, he didn’t care about that amount of money anymore. His cousin might be a bit dense, but it was thanks to him that Chu Feng got the witch stone.
Anzhi nodded. “Okay, if you say so.”
Chu Feng looked down, deep in thought: If a large number of ability users really start appearing, what kind of world would it become? Maybe the power structure would be reshuffled. After all, some of these powers are downright bizarre.
Since everything’s still unclear, there’s no need to stick my head out yet. I should focus on improving my own abilities first—can’t hurt, right?
