Chapter 104: Antibodies?
There were quite a few 24-hour KFCs in the capital. Some homeless people would sleep inside temporarily. Chu Feng never thought that despite being a millionaire, he’d end up living this kind of life. Money really wasn’t everything.
He and Illya found a seat by the wall and rested for a while. In the unfamiliar setting, Chu Feng had trouble sleeping.
Illya, leaning on Chu Feng, quickly fell asleep.
Inside the restaurant, two employees kept glancing at them. Chu Feng took off his coat and covered Illya’s face with it. Even though Illya looked human in disguise, if he lost control of his ability while asleep and revealed his elf features, it could be a huge problem.
“There are more people sleeping here tonight,” said one short-haired employee.
The other nodded. “Yeah, two new ones showed up.”
The first frowned. “That guy’s dressed pretty well. What’s he doing here?”
“Maybe he went bankrupt. Probably his company collapsed.”
“Not necessarily. Maybe he just lost his job.”
“Or maybe he got caught up in gambling. Rich people love going abroad to gamble and then end up broke.”
“Or maybe he got scammed into a pyramid scheme. Those are still common these days.”
Chu Feng rolled his eyes inwardly. These two girls can’t think anything good about me?
Bankrupt, jobless… In reality, he was doing great in both love and business. Still, not having an ID really was a hassle—he’d definitely need to carry one next time he traveled.
He looked down at Illya and thought, He’s so calm—fast asleep like nothing’s wrong.
The next day, Illya woke up in a great mood and ordered ten breakfast combos.
She looked at Chu Feng. “This porridge tastes pretty good!”
Chu Feng smiled. “As long as you like it. Let’s head to the hospital after we eat.”
Illya nodded. “Alright!”
Their table was covered in different flavored porridges. Illya drank five bowls. Chu Feng noticed a few customers nearby sneaking glances at him.
He sighed inwardly—Illya’s looks were just too striking. If he became a mukbang streamer, he’d definitely go viral.
After breakfast, they left the restaurant and headed back to the hospital.
Even though Illya said the detox elixir worked and Chu Linsheng seemed stable, Chu Feng still felt uneasy.
When they arrived at the hospital, they found several doctors in the ward.
They were running tests and taking notes on Chu Anzhi’s condition. One doctor drew two tubes of blood from Chu Linsheng and carefully analyzed it.
The doctors were saying that Chu Anzhi’s recovery was a miracle, and it looked like they were preparing to write it up as a case study.
Chu Linsheng looked happy as he said to Chu Feng, “Xiao Feng, you’re here!”
Chu Feng nodded. “How’s he doing?”
Chu Linsheng smiled. “Anzhi is much better. The doctors said the IV treatment worked. They’re running blood tests to confirm his recovery.”
Chu Feng nodded and muttered, “Oh…”
He rolled his eyes internally—The IV worked?
If that had worked, it wouldn’t have taken this long to show any effect. They even issued a critical condition notice earlier, and now that he’s suddenly recovering, they’re quick to take all the credit.
Chu Anzhi was already awake, lying on the bed, deep in thought.
“Brother Feng, you’re here,” he said.
Chu Feng nodded. “How are you feeling?”
Chu Anzhi smiled. “Much better.”
Chu Feng crossed his arms and said, “Anzhi, I really don’t think you’re cut out for relationships.”
The last time, you were ready to die for a girl. Now it’s even worse—you almost lost your life over one.”
Chu Feng had expected Chu Anzhi to explode in anger, but surprisingly, Anzhi nodded in agreement and said, “Yeah, I’ve been thinking the same thing.”
Still a little shaken, he added, “I think from now on, I should just focus on studying and improving myself. No more girlfriend stuff.”
Chu Feng: This cousin of mine… sure looks like he got his heart broken.
After the doctors had busied themselves in the ward for a while, they finally left.
Chu Anzhi rubbed his forehead and sighed, “These doctors are something else. Back when I was poisoned, they barely checked on me. Now that the poison’s gone, they’re acting all eager and professional.”
Chu Linsheng shot Chu Anzhi a warning look and said, “Don’t talk nonsense. You two chat, I’m stepping out.”
Chu Feng watched Linsheng leave, then turned to Anzhi, “So you were poisoned? What actually happened?”
Anzhi looked at him and asked seriously, “Brother Feng, do you believe there are people with supernatural powers in this world?”
Chu Feng: Supernatural powers? Is he talking about what I think he is…?
But Anzhi chuckled and said, “What am I saying? As if that kind of stuff exists. Have you been watching too many TV dramas?”
Illya turned his head and gave Chu Feng a sideways glance, rolling his eyes.
Anzhi then said seriously, “No, really. I saw someone with powers.”
Chu Feng frowned: So there really are others with abilities?
“What did you see?”
Anzhi took a deep breath, “That day, we went to explore the Ghost Village and saw a man in a gray robe. He could control insects.”
Chu Feng thought: A bug-controller?
“There was an ancient tomb in the village crawling with all kinds of bugs. That gray-robed guy seemed like he was trying to tame them. At first, the bugs resisted, but after a while, they split into two groups. One side stood behind the gray-robed guy and the other side fought them.”
Chu Feng narrowed his eyes.
“Did the bugs bite you?”
Anzhi nodded.
“Yeah.”
Chu Feng thought: So that’s how he got poisoned?
Anzhi lowered his head, “It seemed like those bugs couldn’t leave a certain area. Once we ran out of the village, they stopped chasing us.”
“There were eight of you, right? Only three got bitten?”
Anzhi nodded, “Roughly, yeah.”
Chu Feng looked at him, arms still crossed.
“And how’d you end up being the slowest? Even got outrun by the girls?”
Anzhi blushed.
He had actually been running fast, but when he saw a few girls lagging behind and about to get caught, he kicked away a few bugs that were closing in. Unfortunately, those bugs seemed to hold a grudge. After that, the whole swarm targeted him.
His group decided to split up to draw the bugs away, and he ended up being the bait.
At the time, it was probably the best decision, but Chu Anzhi couldn’t help feeling a bit abandoned.
He’d risked himself to save others—and this was what he got for it.
After waking up, he checked his phone. The few classmates who weren’t hurt barely mentioned his poisoning.
Anzhi felt bitter. He had gone to the Ghost Village because of Xu Linlin, and now she wouldn’t even visit him, supposedly to avoid gossip.
Chu Anzhi closed his eyes, deeply regretting ever tagging along.
“I must’ve been crazy.”
Chu Feng looked at him, thinking: This cousin of mine… it’s like he grew up overnight.
Anzhi looked back at Chu Feng and lowered his voice.
“Brother Feng, did you give me something?”
Chu Feng shook his head.
“Nope.”
Anzhi looked skeptical.
“Really?”
He had been in and out of consciousness the entire time he was poisoned, but not completely unaware. He remembered that after Chu Feng arrived and gave him a cup of water, the discomfort started to ease.
He also overheard doctors saying he had developed antibodies naturally, which was why he survived.
Some people, they said, had unique constitutions—maybe one or two in a hundred could resist a particular venom without treatment. They figured he was just one of the lucky ones.
But Anzhi didn’t buy it. He felt like an ordinary person. That kind of luck? Not likely.
It must have had something to do with Chu Feng.
Why else would he start to recover right after Brother Feng showed up?
Still, seeing that Chu Feng didn’t want to talk about it, Anzhi didn’t press.
“Thanks, cousin.”
Chu Feng smiled and didn’t deny it.
“Just be more careful in the future. Your dad was worried sick.”
Anzhi nodded.
“I know.”
He sighed internally. After waking up, he could see that his father had aged several years overnight. That hit him hard.
“Brother Feng, can you help me get discharged?” Anzhi asked.
Chu Feng frowned, “Why rush? You just woke up. Shouldn’t you rest a bit longer?”
Anzhi shook his head, “No need. This hospital stay already cost a lot.”
Chu Feng laughed, “Money’s not the issue. Saving your life is what matters.”
Anzhi gave him a meaningful look, “Brother Feng, you really do talk differently now that you’ve won the lottery.”
Chu Feng thought to himself: Of course. There’s a big difference between how a rich man and a broke guy talk.
Anzhi shook his head, “I still want to leave. Every extra day here costs more. For someone like you, it’s nothing—but for my parents who work from dawn to dusk, it’s a huge burden.”
Chu Feng glanced at Illya. He nodded.
Illya could sense people’s energy, and earlier, Anzhi’s aura had been murky and weak—but now it was completely back to normal.
Alright, if you want to be discharged, then get discharged.
Chu Feng thought to himself: hospitals are crowded, full of sick people, and the environment isn’t great. Since he’s mostly recovered, getting discharged might be for the best.
