Chapter 16
Marshal Feng Wu, who was farming and buying vegetables in the city, had absolutely no idea that a small group of people were heartbroken because of his “departure.”
After carrying Lin An’an away from the crowd, the giant wolf ran all the way back to their courtyard before transforming back into human form.
The little cub slipped off the wolf’s back and landed in Feng Wu’s palm, rolling over once after he fell.
When the cub did not move, Feng Wu grew a little worried. “An Cub?”
Lin An’an was bending his little tentacles, murmuring ying-ying-ji-ji as he calculated something. Hearing Feng Wu call him, he lifted his head, revealing the watery sheen in his bean-like eyes.
Feng Wu’s heart skipped a beat. His mind automatically replayed what had just happened, wondering whether he had accidentally let someone hurt or frighten the cub without noticing.
Then Lin An’an suddenly pulled out his terminal and typed shakily with his little tentacles:
[Brother Wolf, we’re going to get rich!]
The little cub had run the numbers in his head several times already. After subtracting the cost of buying seeds, the fruits and vegetables they sold today had earned them tens of thousands in pure profit.
Tens of thousands of star coins! In a single day!!!
Not long ago he had still been a penniless little cub who had to sneak around picking up scraps just to fill his stomach. Now these star coins had dazzled his eyes.
Tens of thousands every day meant over a million a month, and over ten million a year…
Not to mention that once he expanded the planting area and increased the yield, the profits could double, then double again, and double yet again.
The sudden windfall left the cub dizzy with joy. He rolled happily around in Feng Wu’s palm, making Feng Wu both amused and charmed, his heart melting into softness.
The livestream was still ongoing. However, the virtual camera could not keep up with the giant wolf’s speed and only just now managed to climb over the courtyard wall and return to its owner.
The one-hour front-page promotion had already ended. The livestream had long since surpassed one hundred thousand viewers, and the number was still climbing. The comment section was as noisy as if someone had poked a monkey nest.
[Ahhh! One hundred star coins for a bag of tomatoes! I’ve never seen such a conscientious streamer!!! [sobbing jpg]]
[Even the discounted defective produce at fruit shops isn’t this cheap. [whose eyes are red, I won’t say jpg]]
[Why didn’t you list them in the livestream room?! Why why why— [frantic screaming jpg]]
[Waaah I came too late and couldn’t get any. Cubby, will you set up a stall again tomorrow? Those cucumbers look so crisp and sweet. [drooling jpg]]
[Probably not tomorrow. Everything’s already sold out. [biting handkerchief in grief gif]]
[You’d have to till the soil and sow again. Even then, the new crops would take at least two or three days to mature.]
Seeing that comment, the little cub felt puzzled.
[No need to replant. These can keep bearing fruit.]
Without paying attention to the uproar his words caused, Lin An’an finished his task and ended the livestream on schedule.
“The healing tomatoes have already been delivered to Elder Shang,” Feng Wu said. “He said he transferred star coins to your account.”
The little cub froze for a moment and indeed found a record of five hundred thousand in his account.
Lin An’an could not help but laugh.
[Tomorrow we should send over some healing corn or something. Tell Grandpa Shang there’s no need to pay.]
Feng Wu nodded. “Alright.”
Though whether the old man would listen was another matter entirely.
Lin An’an had also thought of that.
[Just tell Grandpa Shang that if he really wants to give me something, then he can agree to grant me one request.]
Feng Wu asked, “What request?”
[Haven’t thought of it yet. I’ll save it for later.]
Feng Wu immediately understood. “Alright.”
He thought to himself that this clever little rascal knew exactly what he was doing. Sometimes a favor owed was far more valuable than actual star coins.
Over the next week, the little cub’s life became extremely regular.
Every morning after waking up, he would use the mental power and ability he had recovered from eating healing fruits and vegetables the previous day to treat the three patients in the house, and then forcibly stuff them with a considerable amount of healing produce.
The morning livestream was always for harvesting newly grown fruits, while the afternoon was spent setting up a stall at the trading hall.
During the first two days, Lin An’an went to the same trading hall every time. Later he noticed that many of the people who managed to buy his produce were the same repeat customers. The little cub then came up with a plan and quietly went to a different trading hall the next day without saying a word.
The reason was simple: he did not want to keep fleecing the same group of sheep to death. Others deserved a chance too.
So over the following days, Lin An’an randomly visited different trading halls each day. Whether someone could buy his produce depended entirely on luck.
In any case, he was never worried about the produce not selling.
The little cub declared solemnly that this was called spreading the rain and dew evenly.
Meanwhile, the viewers in Lin An’an’s livestream had gradually changed from—
[Holy crap, this actually works?!!!]
[My brain is broken. My worldview is shattering. [dazed cat jpg]]
[This livestream refreshes my understanding every single day. [my brain can’t keep up jpg]]
[So one vine can produce fruit so many times… suddenly other plant-type ability users and botanists seem useless. [doge wearing a pot lid jpg]]
—to—
[It’s a little outrageous, but since it’s An Cub… then it’s fine. [hehe jpg]]
[If it’s cubby, even if the entire city blooms overnight I wouldn’t find it strange.]
[Spread the word: An Cub made the entire galaxy bloom overnight. [doge jpg]]
[Newcomers don’t doubt your life choices. It’s not that other experts are weak—it’s that our cubby is just too awesome. [cheering wildly jpg]]
And Lin An’an himself seemed to have grown used to the daily livestream viewership of hundreds of thousands, sometimes even millions, becoming calm and unmoved by praise or criticism.
—As if!
Feng Wu had seen more than once that after the livestream ended, the little cub would jump around happily and even do somersaults on the spot. Once he flipped too far and ended up hanging from a tomato vine, unable to free himself, and could only look at Feng Wu with innocent yet guilty eyes to ask for help.
As for the skeptical comments and trolls mixed in among the chat, the little cub truly did not care much.
After all, he was earning so much money every day that he barely had time just counting it. The cub had neither the time nor the need to personally argue with trolls.
There were so many normal people in the livestream that if each spat once, they could drown the trolls.
The best news over these past days was that Si Youlin could already get out of bed and walk.
Although he could only walk a very short distance—from the bedside to the door of the room—but compared with two weeks ago, it was already a huge improvement.
Xiong Yingjun’s hair loss had not shown any visible improvement yet. In fact, perhaps because the black bear had such thick and abundant fur, hair loss was not really a big concern for him.
As for Feng Wu’s mental power rampage, if nothing else, it had been three weeks since his last episode.
Lin An’an had told Feng Wu that as long as he ate healing fruits and vegetables every day, his mental power could remain within a normal fluctuation range and would not easily spiral into a rampage.
However, the headaches, unstable abilities, and other aftereffects caused by his previously frequent mental power outbreaks would require time to gradually regulate and treat.
After finishing his weekly mental summary, the little cub counted on his tentacles and came to a conclusion—
He urgently needed medicine for restoring mental power. Relying solely on healing fruits and vegetables for self-recovery was simply too slow.
That day, after the livestream ended, the three men were discussing something in the room.
Lin An’an was still lying in Feng Wu’s palm, and Feng Wu did not seem to have any intention of avoiding him.
Si Youlin was holding a cucumber. “No movement?”
Xiong Yingjun shook his head. “The posts we made on SinNet were all deleted. Several of the accounts even got banned.”
Si Youlin frowned slightly. “If someone’s hand can reach into SinNet, that means they hold a fairly high position in the Empire.”
“Or they’re simply rich,” Feng Wu said calmly.
Money could make ghosts turn millstones. Hiring someone to hack SinNet and alter the system wasn’t impossible.
Xiong Yingjun cursed under his breath. “That bastard is really patient.”
Lin An’an listened in confusion, unable to understand what they were talking about.
So Feng Wu explained to him that they had been trying to find out who had released those three “special-effect medicines.”
If it were only about making money, they could have simply disguised some useless medicine as the product. There would have been no need to go through the trouble of creating a “special-effect medicine” that triggered an ability rampage like a bomb.
The person behind the scenes definitely had a more complicated goal.
But without identifying that person, their suspicions could not be confirmed, and none of the related matters could move forward.
The room fell silent for a moment.
Suddenly, Lin An’an stretched out a little tentacle and gently hooked Feng Wu’s finger.
“Yingji!”
All three people in the room immediately looked at him.
[I have an idea.] Lin An’an typed.
[Since he doesn’t want to show himself, then we should find a way to lure him out.]
Xiong Yingjun scratched his head. “We’ve already been trying to lure him out.”
[And since it hasn’t worked, that means you used the wrong bait.] Lin An’an continued typing. [If he can auction off a special-effect medicine, why can’t we?]
Feng Wu raised an eyebrow. “You mean… trick him back?”
The little cub puffed out his chest with his tentacles on his hips. “Yingji!” Exactly!
Si Youlin’s eyes lit up. Clearly he understood as well. “That’s a good idea!”
Only Xiong Yingjun remained completely baffled.
“Wait—what are you guys even talking about?!”
