Chapter 13
Less than five minutes after Lin An’an signed the agreement, an agent named Ying Youyou took the initiative to contact him.
Ying Youyou was a lively young woman who had not contracted Alpha, so her workplace was not on Sin Star. The two of them could only communicate through the star network.
According to Ying Youyou, she had only been made a full employee less than a week ago. The only clients in her hands were a few little nobodies that the older agents did not want to handle and had shoved onto her. Lin An’an was the first streamer she had signed personally.
Ying Youyou, who was on another planet, had already gotten off work. She chatted with Lin An’an a bit about the contract, then said, [baby An, you just focus on doing your best. Leave everything else to me.]
Lin An’an replied, [Okay-dah!]
Ying Youyou said, [Don’t look down on me just because I’m new. My eye for people is incredibly accurate. I just happened to come across your livestream today, and the moment I saw you, I felt… it had to be you!]
Her words sounded so sincere that Lin An’an was moved enough to dream all night in his sleep. In the dream, he transformed the barren Sin Star into the number one green planet in the universe, famous across the entire interstellar world.
When he woke up the next day, after dreaming all night long, the little cub only felt dizzy and groggy. He rolled around on Feng Wu several times, whining and acting spoiled, refusing to get out of bed.
Breakfast was still dry rations with nutrient solution. Feng Wu set Lin An’an on the dining table, which had a little handkerchief spread over it, then picked up a bottle of nutrient solution, preparing to pour it into a small bowl so the little cub could eat more easily.
Only then did Lin An’an finally wake up properly. He pushed away the nutrient solution with a little tentacle, then after a few bounces, jumped from the dining table to the doorway. “Yingji!”
Xiong Yingjun was baffled. “What’s baby An doing? Come eat breakfast already. Today’s nutrient solution is milk-flavored—little cubs all love that stuff!”
But Feng Wu seemed to realize something. He walked over and opened the door for Lin An’an.
The little cub practically rushed out the moment the door opened, then grandly pointed a tentacle toward the courtyard. “Yingji!”
Brother Wolf! Behold the empire I grew for you!
The little courtyard that had still been empty the day before was now covered in a sea of green. Red tomatoes, yellow corn, green cucumbers—it was enough to dazzle Feng Wu’s eyes.
Never before had he seen so many fruits, vegetables, and green plants all at once.
Feng Wu did not understand farming, but even he could tell that the quality of these tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, and everything else was far higher than the expensive produce sold outside.
With a biscuit hanging out of his mouth, Xiong Yingjun came over, mumbling, “Boss, you guys… holy shit!”
The sight in the courtyard stunned him so badly that his mouth dropped open, and he did not even notice the biscuit falling to the ground.
Lin An’an stood in the doorway admiring the scene for a moment, then bounced straight into the courtyard and deftly picked a number of tomatoes.
Feng Wu froze for a moment, then quickly stepped forward and caught the little cub when he bounced back. By now, Lin An’an had transformed a whole bunch of little tentacles, and each one was clutching a tomato, making him look rather comical.
At that moment, Xiong Yingjun deeply realized just how correct Lin An’an had been before in so strongly insisting that they build the courtyard wall higher.
If not for the wall blocking the view inside, there probably would already be a crowd gathered outside their home—and maybe some people would have even lost their minds enough to come steal vegetables in the middle of the night.
Feng Wu wanted to take the tomatoes from the little cub’s tentacles, but Lin An’an refused.
He divided the tomatoes into two piles, no more and no less than two each for everyone.
“Do you want to eat tomatoes?” Feng Wu asked him.
Lin An’an shook his head. He picked two tomatoes from two different piles, then bounced his way into Si Youlin’s room.
After these past days of rest and recuperation, Si Youlin’s condition had stabilized quite a bit. At that moment, he was leaning against the headboard, holding a bottle of nutrient solution and preparing to drink it.
Lin An’an bounced laboriously onto the bed and handed him a tomato. “Yingji!” Hurry and eat!
Si Youlin understood the little cub’s intention. He took the tomato and, without the slightest hesitation, bit into it. The sweet-and-sour juice instantly filled his mouth.
“Delicious.” Si Youlin’s eyes curved slightly as he smiled. Just as he was about to take another bite, the tomato in his hand was suddenly snatched away by the little cub, who leapt up.
Si Youlin: “?”
Lin An’an set the bitten tomato aside and typed on the terminal: [I want to do a little experiment. Fourth Brother, wait a moment.]
Si Youlin did not doubt him and quietly waited for a few minutes.
Lin An’an typed: [Do you feel anything?]
Si Youlin shook his head. Then another tomato was stuffed into his hand, and once again he took only one bite.
A few minutes later, Lin An’an typed: [What about this time?]
Si Youlin was just about to shake his head when he suddenly froze. Frowning slightly, he carefully sensed the changes in his body, then said, “The pain inside my body… seems to have eased a tiny bit compared to just now.”
It was an extremely, extremely slight difference—so slight that if he had not deliberately paid attention, he would never have noticed it at all.
But once he had detected that trace of change, it was as if the change had been magnified countless times, becoming vividly clear before him.
Si Youlin was shocked beyond words. “This—”
The little cub typed: [The first tomato you ate was simply grown using plant abilities. But when I grew the second tomato, I also added some healing ability.]
And the tomato he had sold to Shang Youyuan last time had likewise been grown through a combination of both abilities.
This had always been his habit. When using his plant ability to accelerate growth, adding a little healing ability would give the resulting fruit a certain effect of soothing spiritual power.
He just had not expected that in this world, aside from soothing spiritual power, it would also gain the ability to treat Alpha.
Off to the side, Xiong Yingjun exclaimed in amazement, “That’s freaking incredible!”
The little cub nodded right along with him. “Yingji!”
It really was freaking incredible!
To ensure the experiment was accurate, Lin An’an had Feng Wu and Xiong Yingjun also eat two different kinds of tomatoes.
Xiong Yingjun’s hair-loss symptoms were too unusual. Even after eating an entire healing tomato, he did not feel anything especially different.
But Feng Wu gave the same answer as Si Youlin.
His Alpha symptom was spiritual power rampage. His unstable spiritual power made his head ache and throb at every moment of every day, but his endurance was far stronger than that of ordinary people, so those around him had never noticed how uncomfortable he really was.
After eating the tomato with healing effects, Feng Wu could clearly feel that his headache had eased somewhat compared to before.
Lin An’an’s line of reasoning had been correct.
Feng Wu asked him, “What do you plan to do?”
The little cub puffed out his tiny chest. “Yingji!”
Do you even need to ask?!
Of course he was going to set up a stall!
Meanwhile, elsewhere, the first ray of morning sunlight woke Shi Xiaoxing.
Shi Xiaoxing instinctively climbed out of bed, then sat there blankly for quite a while before finally remembering that she had already terminated her contract with CrimeNet.
A heavy gloom lingered in her heart. Every breath felt weighed down, leaving her unable to summon any energy no matter how hard she tried.
Still, she got up, tidied herself a little, and pushed open the door to the living room.
In the past, Shi Xiaoxing always greeted the tomato vine by the door. Today was no exception. Softly, she wished it good morning too.
The breeze stirred up when she opened the door brushed against the tomato vine. One of the vines, already dried black, snapped with a crisp crack, completely breaking off and falling to the ground.
Shi Xiaoxing pressed her lips together. Her face did not change as she crouched down to pick it up, but her lowered lashes trembled faintly.
The virtual camera noticed its owner’s appearance and swiftly, steadily flew in front of her. The barrage comments flashing rapidly across the light screen made Shi Xiaoxing’s eyes blur at once.
Most likely, they were just more unpleasant words—things that disgusted people the moment they saw them.
Shi Xiaoxing instinctively wanted to ignore the barrage, but her eyes sharply caught a few key words among them.
[Daisies…]
[…bloomed…]
[So pretty!]
Shi Xiaoxing froze, as though she had thought of something. She immediately turned to look at the small flowerpot near the corner of the wall.
At that exact moment, a breeze drifted in through the window. The cluster of yellow-and-white little flowers, blooming with incomparable brilliance and brimming with life, swayed gently in the wind, showing off their full blossom to her without the slightest reservation.
Shi Xiaoxing parted her lips. The first thing she did was grab the virtual camera and start checking the livestream recording from the night before.
She saw tender green sprouts pushing through the soil. She saw them stretching with all their might inside the cramped little pot. She saw small flower buds swaying gently, then blooming freely before the camera one by one.
Tears blurred her vision. Covering her mouth, Shi Xiaoxing stumbled toward the pot of little daisies.
Only after seeing that cluster of yellow-and-white flowers with her own eyes did she finally feel a sense of reality.
She was not dreaming, Shi Xiaoxing thought.
This was not a dream.
Light returned to the girl’s eyes.
