Chapter 11
When he arrived at the marketplace again after several days, Lin An’an keenly noticed that there were some unfamiliar faces among the stall vendors.
“That’s just how the outer-city marketplace is,” Feng Wu explained. “The stalls don’t have fixed spots. First come, first served. If you don’t grab a place here, you can only go try your luck at another marketplace.”
Feng Wu had already shifted back into human form and was wearing a disguise mask on his face. At a glance, he now looked like nothing more than an ordinary man—tall in build but plain in appearance. Even his voice was slightly different from usual.
Since Feng Wu’s second form had never been made public, there was no need to worry about ordinary Imperial citizens recognizing him.
“Yingji?”
What about the seed stall from before?
Lin An’an stretched out a tentacle, preparing to type, but Feng Wu seemed to understand what he meant and replied, “It’s fine. If he’s not here, we’ll just look for him at the other marketplaces.”
The little cub immediately relaxed and continued lying comfortably in Feng Wu’s palm, happily remaining a little round dumpling that didn’t have to walk.
The virtual camera floated beside Feng Wu’s head, quietly recording everything.
[Newly unlocked Sin Star map, here to check in!]
[So many people! It’s totally different from how I imagined the marketplace would look [shocked cat jpg]]
[This is the outer-city marketplace, so it’s a bit chaotic. There was a streamer who once livestreamed from the inner city before, and the marketplace there was actually run pretty well.]
[Wait, what? Sin Star cities are divided into inner and outer districts? Do you need some kind of qualification to get into the inner city?]
[You just need money, probably? If you want a better living environment, of course you have to pay a price [shrug jpg]]
[My heart aches for baby An. He’s so little and already ended up on Sin Star. He definitely doesn’t have money to live in the inner city [depth charge 1]]
[Suddenly feeling so emotional… even with Alpha disease, everyone on Sin Star is still trying so hard to live their lives.]
[My daily howl: when are the big shots finally going to develop a special cure for Alpha [spiral-cannon-style exploding tears gif]]
Lin An’an’s luck was not bad. He found the same vendor who had sold seeds before, still in the same spot. Standing in front of the stall was a black-haired girl.
Feng Wu carried the little cub closer and heard the girl bargaining with the vendor. “Boss, can you make it a little cheaper?”
The vendor looked troubled. “Miss, our seeds are already very cheap. You won’t find this price anywhere else. I really can’t lower it any further!”
Lin An’an noticed that the girl also had a virtual camera and a small light screen floating beside her. Like him, she seemed to be livestreaming.
Unable to stop himself, he let his gaze drift toward her light screen.
After all, this was the first fellow streamer he had ever run into! And maybe, just maybe, she was also a [Farming] streamer like him!
At one glance, Lin An’an saw the number of viewers in the girl’s livestream room—more than three thousand.
The little cub: !!!
S-So many people!
So this was what a big streamer looked like! Even the bullet comments were packed so densely!!!
[Eh? This pretty girl looks a little familiar.]
[Ahhh baby An actually ran into Shi Xiaoxing! My favorite gentle Xingxing and adorable baby An! [frantically screenshotting jpg]]
[Xingxing is also a farming streamer. She’s pretty, gentle, and knows how to farm. I wonder if there’ll ever be a chance to see Xingxing and baby An stream together [starry-eyed anticipation jpg]]
[I went over to peek at her stream for a bit—why is the atmosphere in that room so hostile? Kinda scary…]
[I checked too. Apparently several batches of her seeds in a row still haven’t sprouted.]
[Isn’t failing to grow anything the norm? Forget Sin Star soil—even in nutrient soil it’s hard to get fruit and vegetable seeds to survive. What’s there to mock about that [don’t get it jpg]]
[I’m a little worried for baby An. He’s so cute, it’s only a matter of time before he blows up. When that happens, won’t people attack him like this too [pupil earthquake jpg]]
[Hey now, protect our baby An [grab weapon and charge! jpg]]
Feng Wu stood to one side, planning to go over only after she finished buying. The girl noticed him and suddenly turned around to ask, “Are you here to buy seeds too?”
Feng Wu nodded.
The girl, Shi Xiaoxing, immediately brightened. “Can I split an order with you? The vendor’s doing a buy-two-get-one-free deal. If the two of us buy two bags together, how about we split the free one in half?”
Feng Wu lowered his head and looked at the palm of his hand. “baby An?”
Only then did Shi Xiaoxing notice that there was a little cub lying in the man’s palm. It seemed the one who actually wanted to buy seeds was this little cub.
Lin An’an nodded in agreement.
The stall did not have potato or cucumber seeds today, but it had corn and carrot seeds instead. In the little box at the very edge were also some daisy seeds.
Shi Xiaoxing picked up a bag of tomato seeds. Just as she was about to say something, she saw the little black dumpling bounce onto the table and start picking through the selection. He took two bags of tomato seeds, one bag of corn, and one bag of carrots, then pointed a little tentacle at the corn as if asking whether that bag could be split the same way too.
Shi Xiaoxing was internally marveling—what a rich and extravagant little cub!
She couldn’t help but say, “Buying this many seeds doesn’t mean all of them will necessarily grow, you know.”
She spoke very tactfully, but Lin An’an could easily understand what she meant. She was reminding him that it would be better not to buy too many at once, or he would likely waste money.
Lin An’an patted his terminal with a little tentacle. “Yingji!”
It’s okay!
He could still afford these seeds!
The little cub was already calculating things in his head. Seeds were pricey, sure, but the fruits they produced were worth even more. A single tomato vine could already cover the cost, so it was definitely a good deal.
Seeing this, Shi Xiaoxing said no more. She thanked Lin An’an and was about to leave. She could tell the little cub did not care about this bit of money at all. He had only split the order with her because she needed it.
But Lin An’an suddenly called out to her and stuffed a very tiny packet of daisy seeds into her hand. “Yingji!”
Shi Xiaoxing was a little surprised. “Is this for me? Why?”
Lin An’an nodded and typed on the terminal: [Because big sister is pretty!]
Shi Xiaoxing froze for a moment, then immediately laughed. Boldly, she reached out and stroked the little cub on the head, saying softly, “Thank you.”
Although these few daisy seeds would most likely grow into nothing at all, the cub’s direct, adorable, and genuinely kind gesture really did make Shi Xiaoxing feel much better.
[Hahaha, has baby An already learned how to flirt with girls at such a young age? [dying of laughter jpg]]
[An · naturally gifted · baby [thumbs up jpg]]
[Who’s jealous? Not saying [biting handkerchief humbly jpg]]
[Wuwuwu, I also want cubby to give me flower seeds. That’s so romantic.]
These daisy seeds were just a bonus sample the vendor had thrown in out of goodwill because Lin An’an had bought so many seeds at once. It was a tiny little packet with only five small seeds inside.
Lin An’an had suddenly decided to give them to Shi Xiaoxing because he had accidentally caught sight of the bullet comments in her livestream—
[I’m just here to see how much longer she can keep struggling.]
[First time I’ve ever seen someone go bankrupt from farming, hahahaha [slapping table in wild laughter gif]]
[It’s only two hundred star coins and she still has to split an order with someone. Isn’t that embarrassing?]
[You’ve got to be talented to run your life into the ground like this [tsk tsk jpg]]
[Not easy, huh? Haven’t grown a single thing in half a year, nearly can’t even afford food, and still buying seeds.]
[Even for putting on a show, you can’t do it like this. At least other people make money from their act. What exactly are you trying to prove [don’t get it jpg]]
[Little sister, give it up. You’re so pretty—you could just be a beauty streamer instead.]
[Stop trying to persuade her. She’s doing it on purpose. Even if nothing grows, she’ll never quit. Such a positive and inspiring persona she’s putting on [doge jpg]]
There were even more ugly comments after that, their mockery barely concealed.
Lin An’an did not understand why people’s malice could be so great. He did not know this girl, but he could tell that she was not farming just for show.
At the moment she received the seeds, there had been light in her eyes.
She truly loved these tiny little seeds, and she genuinely hoped that after passing through her hands, they would take root and sprout, growing from the brown earth into a small patch of lush greenery.
Lin An’an was moved by that kind of sincerity and passion, and so he decided to give Shi Xiaoxing a small gift.
Before handing over the seeds, Lin An’an had secretly used a little of his ability on the daisy seeds, improving their quality and ensuring that they would sprout and grow.
As long as Shi Xiaoxing planted them and took care of them, then after one night, she would harvest a small cluster of yellow-and-white daisies blooming brightly and brilliantly.
The flower language of daisies is hope, purity, and love hidden deep in the heart.
Lin An’an hoped that the dream hidden within Shi Xiaoxing’s heart could also be like that small cluster of daisies—growing against the light, breaking free from the mud and coming to life.
