Chapter 1
The roar of a flying craft woke Lin An’an up.
Faint sunlight filtered through the gaps between the leaves and fell onto the thick tree branch. A palm-sized little black blob turned over, nearly rolling right off the branch and onto the ground.
Lin An’an was now fully awake.
He lowered his head and took a look at his own body. It was a tiny, soft, bouncy, squishy, pitch-black little lump, looking very much like some fictional creature called a slime.
Of course, the cute version of one.
Another day without turning back, huh, Lin An’an muttered to himself inwardly, though he was neither surprised nor particularly upset about it.
This was already his seventh day in the new world, and he had gradually begun to get used to living on such a barren planet.
—Yeah right!
How could someone who had lived for over twenty years in a high-tech world possibly adapt this quickly to such a primitive life?
Lin An’an cursed furiously in his heart. What was more, there was something distinctly bizarre hidden within this so-called primitiveness.
For example, aside from humans, this world also had all kinds of wild beasts and strange, bizarre monsters. Even he himself was a… well, perhaps a baby monster too.
And then there was the culprit that had just woken him up—a flying craft that had absolutely nothing to do with anything primitive.
Lin An’an wriggled his tiny body and lazily slid down from the tree branch to the ground, just in time to see a huge iron box dropping from the sky.
In the seven days since arriving in this new world, this was the fourth such iron box Lin An’an had seen. As for the flying craft that dropped the box and immediately left, this was also the fourth time he had seen it.
Lin An’an called this big iron box “supplies”—quite literally, supplies.
Inside the box would be food, medicine for injuries, and other materials, as if it had been specially prepared for the creatures wandering this planet.
Judging from that flying craft that appeared from time to time, Lin An’an inferred that the technological development of this world was probably not bad at all. It was just that the area he was currently in—or rather, this entire planet—had a relatively primitive and backward environment.
As for those “supplies,” Lin An’an still had no idea what the people sending them actually intended.
Was it simply out of kindness, a gesture of goodwill toward the creatures on this underdeveloped planet? Or was there in fact some dark, unspeakable secret hidden behind it all?
Lin An’an could not guess, nor did he want to. For a baby monster only as big as a human palm, the important thing right now was figuring out how to fill his stomach and stay alive.
His target was that supply box.
The heavy iron box descended under magnetic levitation and landed on the ground with a thud, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Around the drop site, many wild beasts and monsters had already gathered. Before the supplies even touched the ground, they had already gone through a round of fighting to decide the order in which they would claim them.
Lin An’an hid nearby. His soft, squishy body transformed a tiny tentacle, which clutched a leaf enormous by his standards as he concealed himself inside a small clump of grass.
The advantage of being small was that even a single leaf could serve as camouflage, and it also made him much harder to notice.
Given Lin An’an’s current size, there was no way he could win in a fight. But he could pick up the leftovers.
Previously, when luck had been on his side, he had managed to find a piece of food similar to a compressed biscuit, about half the size of an adult’s palm.
For beasts and monsters, it might not even be enough to fill the gaps between their teeth, but for Lin An’an, that single biscuit was enough to last him a full three days.
Lin An’an was also fairly lucky today. After the beasts and monsters around the supply box had all dispersed, he picked up half of a large, dry flatbread.
It was called half a piece, but even that half was already bigger than Lin An’an’s whole body. If he ate sparingly, it might last him two or three days.
After scavenging his share, Lin An’an did not leave at once. Instead, he looked toward the ground, which was in complete disarray.
There was a plastic box there, about as tall as an adult’s knee. It was square-shaped and not very badly damaged. On one side of the box was a palm-sized opening, just slightly wider than his body.
Printed on the box was an adorably cute little bunny, complete with a tiny head.
Lin An’an’s eyes immediately lit up.
After sleeping out in the wild for so long, it was finally time to have a house!
The tiny monster cub held the flatbread with one tentacle, then conjured another tentacle and plop—grabbed the edge of the plastic box, huffing and puffing as he dragged away his luxurious grand villa.
Life on the barren planet was boring, yet leisurely.
Lin An’an rarely saw humans. Ever since transmigrating here, he had only caught sight of one from far away, and that person disappeared in the blink of an eye. At all other times, the only living creatures he saw were beasts and monsters.
The beasts and monsters all had somewhat irritable tempers, fighting at the slightest disagreement. As a little cub, Lin An’an did not dare join in the fun, but he did enjoy hiding in grass piles or up in trees to watch the commotion and gossip from afar. When the weather was good, he would bask in the sun and take a nap, using that to pass the long stretches of time.
But today, Lin An’an was different. Today, he had things to do. He needed to go find some more junk… ahem, no, some other little things to decorate his new home.
A sofa was definitely necessary. In front of the sofa, there needed to be a little table for eating. And of course, there also had to be a big bed for sleeping.
Lin An’an rummaged through the abandoned area for a long while, picking and choosing, and finally found furniture he was satisfied with.
The little monster cub felt utterly delighted inside, already daydreaming about the wonderful future life he would have living in his luxurious grand villa.
But good times did not last long. Just after Lin An’an had finished arranging all the furniture, a strong wind suddenly rose across the area.
The gust was truly fierce. The wind wailed, and the leaves in the trees rattled loudly.
In order not to be blown into the sky, Lin An’an had no choice but to press his entire little body against the trunk of a large tree, helplessly watching as a thin sapling was blown right to his side and smack—crashed into his new home.
And then carried his new home away with it.
Lin An’an: “!!!”
His luxurious grand villa!
He had just finished decorating it! He had not even had time to move in yet! And just like that… it was gone, qaq!!!
Originally, Lin An’an had planned to go look for the little villa once the wind stopped.
However, the weather that day seemed determined to make things difficult for him. Not long after the wind died down, thick dark clouds came rolling over aggressively, and a torrential downpour followed at once.
This was the first major rainstorm Lin An’an had encountered since arriving here.
The dense leaves overhead could block a light drizzle, but they were helpless against raindrops as big as beans, which battered them into pieces. Very soon, the little black blob was forced into taking a full shower, and his whole body became soaked through, looking pitiful beyond words.
Judging from the thickness of the clouds, the rain was clearly not going to stop anytime soon.
Lin An’an gave up on the idea of making do for the night on a tree branch. Holding up a large leaf, he ran to the side of a giant boulder and squeezed himself into a crack in the rock.
The crack was perfectly sheltered from the wind. It was narrow and thin on the outside, but inside it was actually fairly spacious and dry, just barely enough for a palm-sized little cub to lie flat and sleep.
The flatbread, already missing one corner from being nibbled on, had been soaked by the rain and turned wet and soft. Its texture had not been good to begin with, and now it had become even stranger.
After being busy all day—though in the end it had all been for nothing—Lin An’an was already both hungry and sleepy. After stuffing himself full with the soggy, droopy flatbread, he quickly fell asleep.
This sudden heavy rain lasted the entire night.
The next morning, after the rain stopped, Lin An’an still refused to give up. He followed the direction in which his grand villa had been blown away, only to find floating in the standing water on the ground the wreckage of the villa.
The remains were scattered all over the place. If not for the cute bunny print, Lin An’an would never have recognized that those fragments had once been his luxurious grand villa.
The tiny black blob stood there in the breeze, thoroughly disheveled for a while. In the end, he silently turned away and decided to think of another way to find himself a new home.
That opportunity came very quickly.
That very night, just as Lin An’an had already climbed onto a large tree branch and was about to sleep, the familiar roaring sound rang out in the sky once again.
The monster cub, who had already lain down flat, instantly perked up and saw the supply box descending from the sky.
The sound of the flying craft woke up the other nearby creatures as well, and soon beasts and monsters gathered around the area where the supply box would land.
Lin An’an hugged half of his flatbread and, with practiced ease, assumed the posture of someone ready to watch the drama unfold.
There had not been much change among the surrounding beasts and monsters. Of the many creatures gathered here now, Lin An’an had seen almost all of them during the previous supply battles.
These beasts were all fairly familiar with one another’s fighting strength, so this battle ended very quickly. In the end, the winning beast was a black bear that had placed second in the previous supply fight.
Lin An’an had quite a deep impression of it. Last time, after failing to take first place, the black bear had immediately left and had not taken any of the food from the supplies.
The black bear seemed to hold considerable prestige among the other beasts. When some later-arriving beasts saw that first place belonged to the black bear, none of them stepped forward to challenge it, instead waiting silently at the side.
Looks like this supply battle is completely over now, the little cub watching the excitement thought to himself.
But in the very next moment, the black bear—quietly waiting for the supplies to land—suddenly stood up and looked toward the distant darkness.
There, a silver-white figure flickered in and out of sight within the darkness.
Lin An’an let out a silent wow in his heart, then quietly tore off a small piece of flatbread and settled into a posture ready to enjoy the show.
Things had changed. It seemed the fight for the supplies was not quite over yet.
The silver-white figure gradually became clearer. When it finally stopped beside the supplies, Lin An’an was at last able to see what it looked like—
It was a giant wolf, white all over with a silver sheen. Unlike the other beasts wandering in the wild, this silver wolf had clearly taken extremely good care of itself. Its tail fur was thick, its coat sleek and glossy, and its limbs were strong and well-built. One look was enough to tell that it was definitely not easy to provoke.
But it was also incredibly handsome. Lin An’an blinked, his eyes full of amazement. Of all the creatures he had seen so far, this silver wolf had the highest visual appeal.
But contrary to what Lin An’an had expected, the black bear and the silver wolf did not start fighting.
The two beasts seemed to know each other. Or perhaps they had fought before and were already aware of each other’s strength. As soon as the silver wolf arrived, the black bear voluntarily gave up first place and stepped aside.
Lin An’an could even detect a faint trace of respect in the way the black bear lowered its head slightly.
After the supplies landed, the silver wolf carried away quite a few things from the box, but it did not leave right away. Instead, it lay down beneath a nearby tree and began eating at ease, calm and unhurried.
The black bear was the second to take its share. It seemed to want to go over and eat together with the silver wolf, but the silver wolf only gave it an indifferent glance, forcing it to turn and leave.
The way it looked back every few steps carried such a strong sense of loneliness that Lin An’an could not help clicking his tongue in wonder.
Very soon, the surrounding beasts and monsters all left, leaving only the silver wolf still leisurely eating.
The place where the silver wolf was eating was very close to the tree Lin An’an was hiding in—less than ten meters away.
As long as the silver wolf did not leave, Lin An’an did not dare climb down from the tree to scavenge for leftovers. He could only lie on the tree branch, using the dim moonlight to inspect the messy ground below, trying to spot a box or container that could serve as a grand villa.
Before long, a vicious monster’s roar suddenly came from not far away.
Lin An’an was so startled that he jerked all over. Instinctively, he shrank farther beneath the leaves, yet his curiosity still got the better of him, and he could not help peeking out to see what had happened.
—It was a monster that had arrived late.
That monster had a full four pairs of eyes and eight legs. Its appearance was savage and terrifying, and with bared fangs and claws, it charged straight at the silver wolf, seemingly intent on snatching food right out of the wolf’s mouth.
Lin An’an secretly compared their sizes and felt that his entire body was probably not even as big as one of that giant monster’s eyes.
This world was really far too frightening.
While the little cub was muttering to himself inwardly, the silver wolf and the monster below had already begun fighting. For a time, dust and bits of grass flew everywhere, and the scene was utter chaos. Even the little cub hiding in the big tree branch was affected.
A large bag of unknown contents flew out from the battlefield and crashed with a loud thud onto the very branch where Lin An’an was hiding.
The little cub, who had been watching the show, jumped in fright. But once he saw clearly what the big bag actually was, his eyes immediately lit up.
It was a small supply pack that had not yet been opened. Judging from the pictures printed on the outside, it should contain food, drinking water, and everyday emergency items such as medicine and bandages.
It was practically supplies falling from the sky!
Seeing that the battle between the wolf and the monster was still not over, Lin An’an secretly stretched out a little tentacle, wanting to tug a few leaves over to cover up the small supply pack.
However, just a few seconds later, the battle below suddenly came to a stop.
With a heavy crash, the enormous monster fell to the ground. The silver wolf stood beside it in the posture of a victor, the blood at the corner of its mouth both eye-catching and chilling, while its dark golden beast eyes swept toward the large tree nearby.
It was exactly the tree Lin An’an was in.
The tiny monster cub’s whole body instantly stiffened. The leaf in his little tentacle slipped from his grip and slowly fluttered down from the branch.
H-he’d been discovered!
Lin An’an’s scalp went numb. Catching sight of the small supply pack beside him, he hurriedly pushed it forward with a little tentacle. “Ying-ji!”
I didn’t steal the package!
The great silver wolf extended its tongue and deftly licked away the trace of blood by its mouth. Then it withdrew its gaze, bit down on the rest of the food it had not yet finished, and left the little cub with a back view that was both cool and effortlessly dashing.
Lin An’an blinked, deeply moved.
—What a good person! Ah no, what a good wolf!
In the very next moment, the great silver wolf, which had just been handed the “good wolf” card, suddenly let out a low, muffled growl and collapsed to the ground.
Violent, rampaging mental power swept out from within the silver wolf, instantly shredding the package in its mouth to pieces.
The monster that had fallen nearby sensed the sharp and terrifying mental force. Struggling to its feet, it dragged its injured body away, trying to escape the center of the rampage.
Lin An’an’s first reaction was, So that big monster wasn’t dead after all. Then he froze and looked uncertainly at the giant wolf writhing on the ground in pain, letting out low growls.
This was… a mental power riot?
