Married a Big Cat After Transmigrating to the Interstellar Era – CH6

Chapter 6

“Hello, my name is Shi Xiaowang, I am…”

Shi Xiaowang, for once, got stuck mid-sentence. How was he supposed to introduce himself? As Jian Mo’s husband…?

Meng Zhan smiled good-naturedly and finished the sentence for him.

“I know. The only people allowed inside the Marshal’s residence right now are Jian Mo, Uncle Ye, and you — the young Duke, Shi Xiaowang.”

Hearing the way he addressed him, Shi Xiaowang smiled slightly.

“Mr. Meng, did you come here for something?”

Meng Zhan raised his brows, looking a bit surprised.

“Didn’t Jian Mo tell you? I heard from him that you’re very interested in plants and want to improve your mental power. So, he asked me to tutor you.”

“To… tutor me?”

Seeing Shi Xiaowang’s even more confused and surprised look, Meng Zhan tapped his own forehead with a chuckle.

“Seems my introduction was too brief. Let me reintroduce myself. I’m the director of the Research Institute — also a plant-type mental power user. Of course, I also study various plant-related fields… and other random things.”

“Director?”

Now Shi Xiaowang was truly shocked. The Marshal had actually gotten the head of the Research Institute to be his tutor? That was like using a cannon to kill a mosquito!

“Mm.”

Meng Zhan seemed to know exactly what he was thinking, and smiled.

“The title sounds nice, but in reality, I mostly do pharmacological research at the Institute. For example, you probably received that crate of nutrient fluid today, right? Jian Mo ordered it from me. The kind he got for you is made specifically for plant-type mental power users — though almost no one ever buys it. You know how it is with plant-types.”

At the end of that sentence, Shi Xiaowang’s lips curved up.

“Sir treats me very well.”

A glint of teasing flashed in Meng Zhan’s eyes — he was just about to say something when his gaze shifted to behind Shi Xiaowang.

“Oh, look who it is.”

Shi Xiaowang turned around and saw the lion walking toward them. He immediately went to stand beside it, rubbed its head, and said to Meng Zhan:

“This is Jian Da Meow. He’s the Marshal’s pet. Don’t worry, Director Meng — he’s very well-behaved.”

“…Is that so?”

Very well-behaved, and called Jian Da Meow, no less…

Meng Zhan looked at the lion — at Jian Mo — and couldn’t help but grin. There were so many things he could say, he didn’t even know where to start.

Jian Mo shot him a warning glare and subtly took a step away from Shi Xiaowang.

“What are you doing? Don’t worry so much about the wording in front of others, okay? Give me some face.”

Realizing that the lion was sulking again just because he’d called him “well-behaved,” Shi Xiaowang crouched down and whispered into his ear.

Jian Mo looked at him, his eyes clearly saying:

And what about my dignity?

“You’re the handsomest when you’re being obedient!”

Shi Xiaowang immediately switched to comfort mode, even running his hand twice through the lion’s mane.

Meng Zhan: “Pfft—”

Jian Mo: “…”

Jian Mo turned his head away in defeat, clearly not wanting to deal with this anymore.

Before coming, Jian Mo had warned Meng Zhan not to reveal his true identity. Initially, Meng Zhan had planned to find a chance to expose him anyway — but now that he’d seen this scene, he realized not exposing him might be even funnier.

Actually… much funnier.

Since the “teacher” was already here, Shi Xiaowang didn’t want to waste time and asked directly:

“Director Meng, when should we start? Do I need to prepare anything?”

“No need — but hold on a moment. I’ll check on… Jian Da Meow first.”

Meng Zhan held back a laugh, earning another glare from Jian Mo.

“You handle that too?” Shi Xiaowang asked, wide-eyed.

“Of course. Surprise, right? I’m also a vet. And by the way…”

Meng Zhan, grinning, walked over to Jian Mo, trying to do what Shi Xiaowang had done — pet the lion’s mane.

But the moment he reached out, he got smacked hard across the leg by the lion’s tail. His calf almost felt broken. The rest of his words choked back into his throat with a hiss of pain.

Meng Zhan bared his teeth; Jian Mo looked indifferent; Shi Xiaowang panicked.

“Jian Da Meow! How could you treat a guest like that!”

Shi Xiaowang tugged on the lion’s ear in reprimand, then quickly turned to Meng Zhan in concern.

“Are you all right, Mr. Meng?”

Meng Zhan waved a hand, bracing himself on his knee as he finished what he’d been about to say.

“Also — stop calling me Mr. all the time. I’m not that much older than you. Every time you say it, it makes me sound like an old man.”

The lion snorted.

Meng Zhan rolled his eyes — he didn’t even have to look to imagine Jian Mo’s mocking expression. They never met without bickering. So he turned immediately to Shi Xiaowang and emphasized:

“I’m two years younger than Jian Mo, by the way.”

Shi Xiaowang looked a little lost but nodded.

“Oh…”

The lion gave another amused snort — bluntly mocking: Who cares how old you are?

When the group entered the house, Uncle Ye came to greet them with a smile. Seeing Meng Zhan limping, though, he frowned.

“What happened to your leg?”

“Ah, nothing.”

Meng Zhan glanced at Jian Mo, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

“It’s my own fault. I thought that since I was invited here as a tutor and a doctor, I might at least get the privilege of touching the lion’s fur once. Who’d have thought — that privilege’s reserved exclusively for the young duke. So of course, I got whacked for overstepping.”

As soon as he finished, he instinctively stepped aside — just in time to dodge Jian Mo’s second swipe. Smirking, he raised his brows proudly.

“Ha!”

Shi Xiaowang jumped in surprise and quickly grabbed a handful of the lion’s thick mane.

“What are you doing again?!”

Uncle Ye, who had watched the entire thing, couldn’t help but laugh.

“Indeed, I’ve taken care of this lion for so long, and even I’ve never been allowed to touch him once.”

“Really? What about the Marshal then?” Shi Xiaowang asked in surprise. “He can touch him, right?”

If scratching his own itch counts, then yes.

“That he can,” Uncle Ye replied.

Shi Xiaowang was delighted. He pinched the lion’s face, met his gaze, and said warmly,

“So you do like me that much, huh? I like you most too!”

He leaned in so close their eyes were level — his expression full of open, innocent joy. The affection was so pure it almost burned.

Watching the lion’s ears flatten, his face flustered, and him ultimately bolt from the room — Meng Zhan finally bent over laughing, tears almost streaming down his face.

“Ha! His Majesty’s marriage decree was brilliant,” he joked to Uncle Ye between laughs.

He had never seen Jian Mo like this.

“Of course,” Uncle Ye chuckled, “His Majesty has always been wise.”

Shi Xiaowang didn’t really understand what they were talking about. Touching his nose, he said innocently,

“Da Meow seems to have gone to the medical room.”

“Mm, I’ll go check on him,” said Meng Zhan, wiping away tears of laughter — but he stopped Shi Xiaowang when he tried to follow.

“No need to tag along. We should let Da Meow have some… privacy, you know?”

“…Oh. Okay.”

Shi Xiaowang nodded obediently, though he couldn’t imagine what kind of “privacy” a lion could possibly need.

The Marshal’s residence medical room wasn’t just equipped with standard medical pods — it also had a full set of diagnostic devices nearly identical to those in the Institute. The old Marshal had fought Zerg on the frontlines for years, his body accumulating countless pollutants, so this equipment had been specially approved by the Federation to monitor his condition.

“Seriously?” Meng Zhan laughed as he entered, seeing the lion lying on the carpet looking sulky. “All it took was one look and one ‘I like you’ from the young duke to turn you into a deserter? You’re hopeless, Jian Mo.”

Jian Mo ignored him entirely.

Meng Zhan tapped the machine beside him.

“Come on, let’s get this over with. The sooner we finish the check-up, the sooner I can go teach your little duke.”

Jian Mo finally glanced at him, hesitated briefly at the sight of the instruments, then walked over.

As Meng Zhan began operating the machine, he spoke casually,

“By the way, why did you suddenly agree to this marriage alliance? Sure, the young duke’s cute and beautiful, but don’t tell me you just acted on lust?”

It’s not really a marriage alliance, Jian Mo typed on his light-brain.

He briefly explained Shi Xiaowang’s past situation:

Once he successfully inherits his title, the agreement will automatically dissolve, and he’ll return to the Duke’s manor.

Meng Zhan was silent for a while, then sighed.

“They really hid it well. And with the Federation — even the royal family — so focused on the war all these years, it’s no wonder the young duke was overlooked. So, what’s your plan?”

Already taking care of it, Jian Mo wrote. It’s easy to deal with that couple, but I can’t rush it. I have to make sure he doesn’t get dragged into it. I need to prevent them from panicking and smearing him. The public needs to see their hypocrisy for what it is. He’s already suffered enough — I won’t let him be stained by it too.

After a moment, he added:

Help me find some media contacts. I only have access to official channels, which aren’t ideal.

“Sure, just say the word.”

Meng Zhan nodded, checking the readings.

“But what about his mental power? I didn’t ask earlier, but if you’re planning to make him win the public’s favor through that, it won’t work. Look at me — I’m the best example. Plant-type mental power users are considered useless, unless he actually has purification ability — the power to remove pollutants from plants.”

Jian Mo let out a low, amused sound.

What if he does? he typed. You’ve spent all these years researching the impossible — knowing berserkers can’t be cured, yet you still refuse to give up.

“So you’re revealing your hand, huh?”

Meng Zhan smiled too, though his tone softened with sincerity.

“You came back from the battlefield, locked yourself away in spirit form, and wouldn’t even take basic diagnostics. I knew you were giving up. Honestly, I should thank the young duke — if he hadn’t needed a tutor, I wouldn’t have had any way to get you to accept treatment again. My ability’s limited, sure, but I can at least slow down the berserk progression. Since you already believe that your little duke can perform miracles, shouldn’t you give him time to grow into it?”

Shi Xiaowang transmigrated—into an unknown interstellar era. He became the orphaned heir of a duke, only to be schemed against by a distant relative who had taken over his identity. His two “choices”: marry the bloodthirsty and merciless Federal Marshal… or marry the lecherous, perverted president of the Chamber of Commerce. Shi Xiaowang decisively choose the Marshal. Merciless is fine—merciless is still better than perverted. However, after entering the Marshal’s mansion, he discovered… there was no Marshal—only a majestic, awe-inspiring lion. Majestic, yes—but also extremely lazy and fond of sleep. Having inherited the plant-type mental power of his body’s original owner, and possessing a self-born purification ability, Shi Xiaowang began to study catnip, thinking perhaps it could get the lion’s attention. The first time— The great lion looked at him twice. The second time— The lion pinned him down on the carpet and rubbed against him. The third time— The Marshal himself appeared... It was said that the bloodthirsty Marshal held Shi Xiaowang, who was still clutching the catnip, and said with dark, smoldering eyes: “You smell… really good.” Shi Xiaowang: “???” In the Federation, everyone adored the old Marshal. Everyone believed he would lead them to victory against the Zerg. But when victory finally came, news spread that the old Marshal had fallen. His successor—the new Marshal—was his adopted son, and also the one who had killed him. From that moment, Jian Mo was branded as “bloodthirsty” and “heartless.” Everyone hated him—including Jian Mo himself, who was on the verge of mental collapse. He refused meaningless treatment, keeping his consciousness alive only through his spirit form, waiting for the end. Agreeing to the engagement with the young duke was merely because he pitied the fragile youth caught in a desperate situation—protecting him for a while would at least do some good. Yet unexpectedly, that supposedly fragile boy lived like a bright, resilient little sun. He purified the pollution that had plagued the Federation for centuries and made flowers bloom once again across the stars. He brought new hope to everyone— Including Jian Mo. Epilogue: That day, when Shi Xiaowang couldn’t get out of bed, two questions kept circling in his mind:
  1. Was the catnip he grew that potent? How could it make someone go crazy for a whole night?
  2. And—why would a human react to catnip? What kind of species was he, exactly?!
Until one day, while teasing the lion again with catnip, Shi Xiaowang realized something was… off with the texture under his hand. Jian Mo smiled: “Hey, wife~” Shi Xiaowang: “…Hey your grandpa!” Jian Mo rolled over: “Not grandpa—hey, wife.” Tags: Time travel · Interstellar · Sweet romance · Cute pet · Light-hearted · Marriage before love
