Is a Succubus Considered a Demon? – CH47

Chapter 47

Early the next morning, the alarm clock didn’t wake Ye Xiyao from his sleep as it usually did.

Instead, something else roused him.

In his dream, he seemed to have transformed into a pineapple pie, with someone trying to cram an overwhelming amount of sweet sauce into him. A feeling of fullness and obstruction clung to Ye Xiyao.

The good news was that he woke up before Ye the Pineapple Pie could be eaten.

The bad news was that he discovered the one obstructing him was Xing Shu.

When Ye Xiyao instinctively tried to get up upon opening his eyes, he realized he couldn’t move freely; he was pinned on the not-so-spacious bed, feeling suffocated.

Ye Xiyao’s face turned red, and he kicked Xing Shu with his feet, saying, “Let go.”

Xing Shu effortlessly pressed down on his delicate, pale legs, snuggling against the back of his neck.

Xing Shu: “You’re awake? Good morning.”

Ye Xiyao: “I’m dead, buried in peace.”

Xing Shu transformed into a human-shaped gallows, holding him tightly: “Then I’ll be buried with you.”

Ye Xiyao struggled a bit and instantly felt his body covered in goosebumps; he realized that even the slightest movement made both of them uncomfortable. Confirming he couldn’t escape on his own, Ye Xiyao felt a bit hopeless and considered giving up.

But the current reality was too unbelievable, so he asked Xing Shu, “How can you… you know, for the entire night…”

Just saying the words “not taken out” felt incredibly shameful.

Unbelievably, the instigator of the situation—Xing Shu himself—defended himself with a straight face: “The entire night? No, no, no, am I that inhumane? If I really did that, you would have been miserable last night and definitely wouldn’t have slept well. How could I do that?”

Ye Xiyao was so thrown off by his confident tone that he hesitated and began to wonder if he misunderstood something.

But soon, Xing Shu completely shattered Ye Xiyao’s patience with his last statement, explaining, “I put it in at seven o’clock.”

“???”

Ye Xiyao almost choked on his breath and asked, “But why? Didn’t the backlash settle down? And you were doing that late last night; what are you doing now so early in the morning?”

Ye Xiyao’s tone wasn’t very fierce; he was probably not angry but genuinely perplexed about what Xing Shu was doing.

Of course, what he couldn’t understand the most was that Xing Shu had an unusual interest in such matters—after all, anyone would say this is something that a succubus would prefer, right? Ye Xiyao should be the one feeling thirsty and impulsive, but now he was starting to find it a bit overwhelming.

In this small apartment, it seemed like there was a transfer of talents between humans and succubi.

This was nothing short of a cosmic miracle.

Ye Xiyao wouldn’t judge whether Xing Shu was a good exorcist, but he was definitely a diligent ingredient. He was thinking about how to cram himself into Ye Xiyao’s body 24/7—of course, referring specifically to demonic energy.

Ye Xiyao had no doubt that if one day Xing Shu accidentally cut his finger, his first reaction wouldn’t be to look for a band-aid but to stick his finger into Ye Xiyao’s mouth.

It sounded almost perfect: as long as Xing Shu didn’t die, Ye Xiyao would never have to worry about going hungry in his lifetime.

But the premise was:

Xing Shu did not wake him up in this manner.

Xing Shu said, “I can explain.”

Ye Xiyao replied, “Then hurry up and explain.”

Xing Shu: “At seven o’clock, your alarm went off for the first time, and I turned it off. Anyway, I’m driving you to work today, so you could sleep for at least another forty minutes.”

Ye Xiyao: “And then?”

Xing Shu: “Then I thought, forty minutes! This is a precious forty minutes. This is forty minutes that would have been wasted on sleeping but has now become an entirely new forty minutes.”

Ye Xiyao: “…”

Xing Shu: “I have to make use of it.”

Ye Xiyao could no longer tolerate it and, unusually, used his powers to push Xing Shu away, breaking free from their entangled state.

Xing Shu fell off the bed in a tragic position but turned over and jumped up two seconds later, chasing after Ye Xiyao and asking, “Really not allowed?”

Ye Xiyao took a pair of scissors from the nearby shelf.

Xing Shu blinked and asked, “Are you thinking of cutting your hair?”

Ye Xiyao looked down at a certain part of Xing Shu and said softly, “I want to cut it off.”

“…” Xing Shu paused for a moment, then suddenly lay back down on the bed, covering himself with the blanket and placing his hands over his chest in a serene posture. “I must have misheard.”

Ye Xiyao was at a loss whether to laugh or cry as he set the scissors down. He originally intended to walk into the bathroom but suddenly turned back to look at Xing Shu.

He found Xing Shu sneaking glances at him too. When their eyes met, Xing Shu smiled and said, “Hey, did you miss me in that one second?”

Ye Xiyao couldn’t help but laugh, but then he suddenly said, “I don’t know if you realize, but most of the chaotic demonic energy in your body has dissipated.”

Xing Shu slowly sat up, still smiling, propping his chin on his hand, looking at him with amusement: “Of course, just look at who my wife is.”

Ye Xiyao’s thoughts were thrown off: “Wife…”

Having been used to “baby” and “little treasure,” he didn’t react at first to this new title.

Xing Shu thought he didn’t like it, so he quickly suggested, “Should I call you husband then?”

“No.” Ye Xiyao looked pained.

Xing Shu immediately took advantage of the situation: “Okay, wife.”

Ye Xiyao replied, “Just don’t talk for now; I almost forgot what I wanted to say.”

Xing Shu nodded and kept silent, allowing Ye Xiyao to finish what he wanted to say.

Ye Xiyao rested his hand on the bathroom doorknob, paused for a moment, and said, “You know I’m a succubus; it’s instinctual for me to absorb human essence. Now that your demonic array has stabilized, it’s best if we don’t do that. Otherwise, when your demonic energy is fully depleted, what I’ll end up consuming is your soul.”

Xing Shu raised an eyebrow. He knew what Ye Xiyao meant, but he found it particularly amusing: “So does that mean I have to go out and take down a couple of demon spawn every time before I can come back and kiss you?”

Ye Xiyao said, “Just kissing is fine.”

Xing Shu: “What if I want more than just kisses?”

Ye Xiyao silently picked up the scissors and started snipping away.

This made Xing Shu, in a fit of annoyance, lie back down peacefully.

–

That morning, Ye Xiyao rode in Xing Shu’s car to the company. As soon as they entered, they noticed that the atmosphere in the product experience department was unusually good.

According to Qiao Linchuan, Wen Jisheng had been moved out of the ICU. Although he was still unable to leave the hospital for now, at least his life was saved.

In fact, Ye Xiyao and Xing Shu had known this for a while; they just found out in a different way than Qiao Linchuan, so after hearing Qiao Linchuan’s account, they had to pretend to be surprised.

Ye Xiyao cooperatively exclaimed, “Really? That’s great! Is he awake now?”

Qiao Linchuan replied, “He wasn’t awake when we went to visit, but they say he opened his eyes the day before yesterday, so he should be considered awake.”

“That’s really good.” It was Xing Shu who spoke this time. “How long has he been awake? More than an hour? Can he speak? How’s his body functioning? Has he tried to get out of bed yet?”

Everyone except Ye Xiyao looked at him in shock: “What are you doing?”

Xing Shu: “Is it wrong to care about my subordinate?”

Qiao Linchuan replied, “You don’t even know him; what do you care? Don’t tell me you want to look good in front of Xiao Bao.”

Xing Shu smiled down at him: “You look tired of life right now.”

Qiao Linchuan quickly dodged behind Ye Xiyao: “Haha, I was just joking! Manager Xing is truly a caring leader.”

Strictly speaking, Qiao Linchuan wasn’t wrong; Xing Shu didn’t know Wen Jisheng at all and didn’t care about him.

He was simply curious about how a human, whose soul had been nearly drained after being possessed by demon spawn, could come back to life and the chances of recovery to a healthy state—put simply, he was concerned about Ye Xiyao’s purification abilities.

Ye Xiyao understood Xing Shu’s intentions.

Xing Shu had informed him that Luo Yiji had previously suggested that Ye Xiyao demonstrate his purification abilities to the alliance government to prove his harmlessness.

Because Luo Yiji initially thought that dissipating demonic energy was a simple task for Ye Xiyao, he suggested the idea thinking that Ye Xiyao could easily “purify” the demonic energy with just a flick of his finger, making it a win-win situation. Thus, he couldn’t understand why Xing Shu had refused him.

But Xing Shu still didn’t plan to let a third person know how Ye Xiyao helped him dissipate his demonic energy, so he asked Ye Xiyao, “How did you purify Wen Jisheng’s demonic energy that day in the hospital?”

Xing Shu first confirmed that Ye Xiyao definitely hadn’t kissed that nearly soulless patient.

He initially thought Ye Xiyao must have used some power unknown to humans.

But Ye Xiyao replied, “I don’t know.”

He didn’t even think he had any purification abilities; he believed it was merely an innate balance within his bloodline.

The only thing Ye Xiyao could remember was that he wanted to use his demonic power to kill that demon who was about to transform. He thought he could obliterate the other party with his strength, but halfway through using his power, he realized his energy was imbalanced and had to leave in a hurry.

In simple terms, Ye Xiyao temporarily couldn’t flexibly control his “purification” ability.

Therefore, if he were to demonstrate how to dissipate demonic energy to the alliance government again, the only method left was to absorb bodily fluids—Xing Shu had crushed a glass at that time and declared that it absolutely couldn’t happen.

However, there were still ways to address this issue.

The best case right now was Wen Jisheng.

Luo Yiji had told Xing Shu that their current task had shifted from observing Ye Xiyao’s habits to studying Ye Xiyao’s purification ability.

If Wen Jisheng could recover to become a normal person—not just relying on hospital machines to prolong life, but fully restoring his health—then Ye Xiyao’s purification ability could serve as a foundation for him to establish himself in human society in the future.

Once Wen Jisheng was alive, there would be no need for Xing Shu to report back specially; the alliance government and the security bureau would surely welcome this savior of mankind with great fanfare.

However, according to Qiao Linchuan and the others, Wen Jisheng was still far from being healthy.

Right now, he was just alive.

–

Although Wen Jisheng was alive, it was undoubtedly good news for Qiao Linchuan and the others.

But given Wen Jisheng’s current condition, he definitely wouldn’t be able to return to work in the future.

Thus, their department now had to face a new problem.

They were short-staffed.

With many new products awaiting their experience in the next quarter, although preparations for hiring were underway, it would still be a challenge to get new hires up to speed in such a short time.

Ye Xiyao had already proven himself to be a genius among newcomers, managing to grasp nearly all the functions and requirements of the products in just one month, working efficiently and using his cleverness. Not only could he perfectly handle his own tasks, but he also eagerly helped to lighten the load of others. The key was that he did everything very well without needing seniors to fix his mistakes.

Finding another Ye Xiyao was nearly impossible.

Even Qiao Linchuan, looking for a compromise, couldn’t find anyone suitable.

During this time, someone did come in and worked for two days… but there’s not much to say about that. The person still hadn’t understood the instructions for a certain product after two days, needing Qiao Linchuan to teach him step by step. In the end, he complained, “This isn’t the kind of product experience I expected.”

In summary, their department was already overwhelmed.

Amidst quickly reviewing materials, Ye Xiyao gasped, “Brother Qiao, haven’t we hired anyone yet?”

At that moment, Qiao Linchuan was standing on a portable low-altitude flying device, zooming past Ye Xiyao with an echoing response: “No~~~”

Later, Xing Shu couldn’t stand it any longer and, reluctant to see Ye Xiyao so busy, volunteered to help them out.

He didn’t help out well; once he did, the workload doubled.

Everyone had to finish their tasks and find time to call certain product technical departments, asking them: “We broke the product; can it be repaired? Please don’t scold us, it was manager Xing who broke it. Yes, it’s the same manager Xing you’re thinking of. Alright, please send a new one over when you have the time.”

In Xing Shu’s office, Ye Xiyao was comforting this dejected man.

“It’s okay, we all know you mean well; you just wanted to help me unlock the device,” Ye Xiyao said, patting Xing Shu on the head. “But it’s best to promise me that next time when you find something you can’t open, you’ll try to unlock it first instead of crushing it, okay?”

Xing Shu sat in his chair, wrapping his arms around Ye Xiyao’s waist and nudging him, sounding a bit unconvinced: “It doesn’t even have a keyhole.”

Ye Xiyao didn’t directly refute him but asked, “Do doors have keyholes?”

Xing Shu replied, “They do.”

Ye Xiyao asked, “Then why do you always kick it?”

Xing Shu instantly became obedient: “I’m sorry.”

In fact, Xing Shu had been quite diligent today; even Qiao Linchuan didn’t complain about him being a hindrance because it was clear that Xing Shu had good intentions.

It was just that his power system seemed to operate outside of normal dimensions, and even when he was gentle, he could still break one or two buttons.

However, giving him heavy tasks was still quite easy; he could lift a machine that should have required a jack to hold up with just one hand and could apply a force beyond human capability when Lu Kou said they needed to test a certain countermeasure.

Xing Shu simply couldn’t handle delicate work.

Ye Xiyao didn’t want to see Xing Shu with that silent expression of frustration for not being able to help, as he knew that Xing Shu’s abilities weren’t meant for these tasks.

Xing Shu’s hands were capable of holding guns and knives and smashing demons’ heads, so it was understandable that he accidentally crushed the switch of an intelligent machine with just a finger.

Ye Xiyao suddenly shivered, as if thinking of something; his originally straight back subtly bent down as he said to Xing Shu, “Alright, you can rest in the office for a bit. I’ll just check the product feedback and then come find you for dinner.”

Xing Shu looked at him: “I’ll go with you.”

Ye Xiyao replied, “No need, I’ll be back quickly.”

Xing Shu insisted, “I promise not to touch those devices.”

Ye Xiyao pressed his lips together, his gaze drifting strangely for a moment: “Really, no need.”

With that, he turned and ran away.

Xing Shu watched his departing figure in silence for a long time before suddenly standing up.

–

In the restroom, Ye Xiyao quietly locked the door and then lifted his shirt with his mouth, glancing at it.

Sure enough, the adhesive on the band-aid he had put on before leaving had lost its stickiness and was about to fall off.

However, he couldn’t just rip it off because the fabric would rub against his already painful skin.

He could only blame Xing Shu’s monstrous strength, as he not only exerted a lot of power while working but also didn’t know how to control it in other situations. Ye Xiyao had been swollen from yesterday until now, and even after half a day, there was no sign of it subsiding.

Fortunately, the company’s restroom was private and had a mirror, allowing Ye Xiyao to adjust himself properly.

After several attempts, the band-aid had completely lost its grip and suddenly fell off Ye Xiyao’s body. He thought to himself that since lunchtime was approaching, it would be better to go buy a larger band-aid during the break.

Just as Ye Xiyao was throwing away the trash, the restroom door was kicked open.

Ye Xiyao was still holding up his shirt and was stunned for a second.

Xing Shu maintained his kicking pose, his expression conveying a sense of awakening from a dream as he said, “I’m sorry, I’m just used to it.”

He walked in amidst Ye Xiyao’s shock, using his foot to hook the trash can and prop the door open, then glanced at Ye Xiyao: “Not feeling well?”

Ye Xiyao instinctively opened his mouth; his shirt slipped down and brushed against his already red and swollen area, causing him to wince in pain.

Xing Shu wrapped his arms around Ye Xiyao’s waist, lifted his shirt, thought for a moment, and ultimately shoved it back into Ye Xiyao’s mouth: “Bite down.”

Ye Xiyao didn’t want to, so he closed his mouth. Xing Shu knew why he was disobedient and assured him, “Do you think I’m a beast? I won’t do anything unnecessary. Be a good baby and show me where it hurts.”

Ye Xiyao finally opened his mouth, gently holding the shirt’s hem, revealing the marks on his body.

Xing Shu’s expression turned cold: “Damn it, I really am a beast.”

Ye Xiyao wanted to laugh but couldn’t open his mouth, so he pushed Xing Shu lightly, urging him to stop staring.

However, Xing Shu cleaned the sink and suddenly picked him up, placing him on it, allowing him to see Ye Xiyao’s reddened areas more clearly from that height.

“Does it hurt?” he asked.

Ye Xiyao nodded.

Xing Shu said, “Why didn’t you tell me this morning?”

Ye Xiyao wanted to say it was because he had done something even more beastly this morning, which made him forget.

However, he couldn’t articulate it and only made a few whimpering sounds.

Xing Shu sighed and suddenly leaned down, getting closer. Ye Xiyao instantly tensed up, shrinking back a bit.

But Xing Shu didn’t touch that area again; he only gently blew on it: “Next time, if I’m too rough, just tell me.”

Ye Xiyao murmured, “Mmm…”

It’s easy to say nice things, but when has he ever truly listened?

However, the guilt and pain in Xing Shu’s eyes were genuine and not feigned.

He just couldn’t help himself each time, and he couldn’t remember to hold back, causing Ye Xiyao pain and then regretting it. But if given another chance, he would use all his strength to kiss Ye Xiyao again.

Ye Xiyao poked Xing Shu’s forehead.

Xing Shu looked at him: “What?”

Ye Xiyao bit down on his shirt and said nothing, only glanced at the band-aid that had fallen on the floor earlier, then looked up and blinked at him.

Xing Shu nodded: “I’ll go buy it.”

Ye Xiyao poked him again.

Xing Shu said, “I know the door is broken; I’ll find someone to fix it later. You go wait in the lounge for me.”

Ye Xiyao replied, “Mmm mmm.”

Xing Shu continued, “Alright, I’ll also buy some medicine for you.”

Ye Xiyao responded, “Mmm.”

Xing Shu added, “Okay, and I’ll bring back some food.”

–

It’s unclear if it’s everyone’s illusion, but in any case, everyone noticed that Xing Shu had changed.

It’s difficult to draw conclusions about his personality for now, but his way of doing things had definitely shifted.

First of all, he had become quieter.

Now he only used two fingers to open the office door.

Qiao Linchuan once joked, “Xing, are you practicing your delicate fingers?”

Xing Shu shot him a look but surprisingly didn’t scold him. Instead, he said, “Then what do you think I can do to avoid breaking the damn doorknob when I turn it?”

Qiao Linchuan actually began to discuss it with him, saying, “Then just don’t close the door.”

Xing Shu found it hard to articulate: “If I don’t close the door, I have to see you every day?”

Qiao Linchuan raised his eyebrows at him: “You can look at Ye Xiaobao.”

Xing Shu: “……”

Xing Shu: “That’s not a bad suggestion.”

Recently, Ye Xiyao had been busy with others every day, while as the department’s top leader, who was also the most “useless” person, the only thing Xing Shu could do was take over everyone’s lunch — the others ordered takeout, while Ye Xiyao’s portion was made by him personally.

After a period of being so busy that he could barely keep his feet on the ground, they finally welcomed a new colleague.

Not someone they hired, but someone borrowed from other departments at headquarters.

Song Qingwei had five years of experience at Qiaoshou Technology and was a technician who had worked on several core projects. He had no shortcomings in any aspect, was meticulous in his work, had an eye for details, and was courteous, quickly becoming familiar with everyone in the department.

Except for Xing Shu.

Xing Shu didn’t have any major dissatisfaction with Song Qingwei.

His annoyance stemmed from the fact that Song Qingwei wore glasses.

Okay, strictly speaking, wearing glasses shouldn’t be a reason for him to dislike someone.

But the key issue was that during a casual chat before bed, Ye Xiyao had said to him, “I saw the new colleague take off his glasses today; I almost didn’t recognize him.”

Xing Shu immediately became alert: “What?”

Ye Xiyao, still unaware, continued, “The difference when he wears glasses versus not wearing them is huge! Sister Kou even said that he looked good without them, but once he put them on, he suddenly became handsome. Now even Brother Qiao said he wants to get a pair of glasses. But it seems Brother Qiao isn’t suited for wearing glasses.”

Ye Xiyao kept talking.

But Xing Shu fell silent.

By the time Ye Xiyao noticed something was off with Xing Shu, it was already too late.

Xing Shu had already bought a pair of glasses and put them on.

Ye Xiyao: “……When did you become nearsighted?”

Xing Shu: “Three minutes ago.”

That was right when he had just put on his glasses.

Ye Xiyao: “?”

Xing Shu: “You tell me first, do I look good?”

At this point, Ye Xiyao couldn’t help but understand what Xing Shu meant. He laughed until he almost cried, took off the glasses that didn’t suit Xing Shu at all, and placed them neatly back in the case, saying, “You’re not even nearsighted, so why wear them blindly?”

Xing Shu, looking displeased, hugged Ye Xiyao: “If you won’t let me wear them, it means I don’t look good.”

Ye Xiyao gently touched his face in a comforting manner: “How could that be? You’re so handsome, you look great without glasses.”

Xing Shu: “So wearing glasses makes me look particularly ugly?”

Ye Xiyao: “Oh dear.”

Xing Shu: “See? You’re at a loss for words, aren’t you? What right does that Song Qingwei have to wear them while I can’t? I’ll go kill him.”

Ye Xiyao wasn’t afraid; he knew Xing Shu wouldn’t really go after Song Qingwei. He smiled and said, “Are you jealous?”

Xing Shu: “Of course.”

Ye Xiyao: “Just because I said he looks good in glasses?”

Xing Shu: “You didn’t say ‘good-looking,’ you said ‘handsome.’”

Ye Xiyao: “Oh my, I called him handsome! How could I call another man handsome? Honestly, the most handsome person in the world is right next to me.”

Xing Shu: “……Tsk.”

The corners of his mouth, which he couldn’t suppress, finally curled up.

Ye Xiyao: “Don’t be jealous! Song Qingwei looks special in glasses because they suit him. But even without glasses, you’re already the most handsome one.”

Xing Shu became unhappy again: “He has a special aura?”

Ye Xiyao: “The key point in that sentence is the last part!”

Xing Shu: “I also want to have a special aura.”

Ye Xiyao: “You do! You’re an exorcist, and you have the unique demon-slaying array that no other exorcists have. How special is that?”

Xing Shu looked at Ye Xiyao, shook his head, and said, “Not that; it’s something else.”

Ye Xiyao: “What else?”

Xing Shu: “I need to think of a way to make it so you can’t take your eyes off me to look at other men.”

Ye Xiyao initially thought Xing Shu was joking, but then realized he was serious.

He actually didn’t understand what Xing Shu meant by “something else.”

If Xing Shu was jealous, then Ye Xiyao had already clarified that his attitude toward Song Qingwei was that of an unfamiliar colleague.

If Xing Shu wanted him to compliment him, then Ye Xiyao had already run out of flattering words.

He didn’t know what Xing Shu was thinking.

In any case, in the following week, Ye Xiyao enjoyed all sorts of strange “performances” from Xing Shu.

At first, it was the failed glasses, then he began experimenting with hairstyles, started wearing cologne, and even invited back the styling team that Xue Qiao had previously introduced to him.

He was indeed very handsome; many people in the company started inquiring about “that handsome guy who changes his hairstyle every day, stands at one meter ninety, dresses like a celebrity, and wears sunglasses on cloudy days, which department he’s from.”

Ye Xiyao was amused by him for an entire week.

He even showed genuine surprise and praised Xing Shu’s looks without holding back. Yet Xing Shu always asked him with a half-smile, “Is my handsomeness enough to make you forget about the demon energy while we’re having sex?”

Ye Xiyao would respond with a perfunctory smile: “Stop joking.”

They hadn’t taken that step for a long time, mostly due to Ye Xiyao’s refusal.

Ye Xiyao couldn’t be sure how much demon energy was left in Xing Shu’s demon-slaying array; after all, it wasn’t something that could be measured precisely. But it was definitely less than before.

Ye Xiyao was too afraid of hurting Xing Shu’s soul, so even though Xing Shu assured him that the demon energy was enough for several nights of indulgence, Ye Xiyao just skirted around the topic and compensated him with a kiss.

Xing Shu didn’t force him; what he was passionate about wasn’t the act itself but being with Ye Xiyao. A kiss was fine; he could restrain himself.

But he occasionally felt uneasy.

It seemed like Ye Xiyao’s interest in him was always so lukewarm.

Xing Shu even started to doubt that every time Ye Xiyao tilted his beautiful neck back in his arms and let out a long sigh, it was truly him enjoying their entanglement or simply the influence of his succubus nature.

Without the answer to this question, Xing Shu turned into a flamboyant peacock in front of Ye Xiyao.

To attract Ye Xiyao’s attention, he had poured all his efforts into it recently.

However, no matter how enthusiastically Ye Xiyao responded with words, Xing Shu knew that Ye Xiyao was far more rational compared to him.

Ye Xiyao also noticed Xing Shu’s subtle unease. Unable to grasp the key issue, he thought Xing Shu was still troubled by Song Qingwei’s glasses and comforted him, saying, “You don’t need to try those things anymore; just be yourself.”

After putting in so much effort for little reward, Xing Shu finally came to terms with it.

He actually knew that Ye Xiyao liked him; otherwise, they wouldn’t have come this far. Even Ye Xiyao’s reluctance to be with him stemmed from cherishing Xing Shu and not wanting to hurt him.

What Xing Shu sought was called losing control, an excess of passion. This couldn’t be forced; perhaps Ye Xiyao was just naturally more rational than he was.

Xing Shu held the back of Ye Xiyao’s head and kissed him deeply for a long time, digesting all his emotions before finally letting him go: “Alright, I won’t try anymore. I really am just looking for trouble… You have no idea how tiring it is to mess with my hair every day.”

Ye Xiyao laughed heartily: “I didn’t dare to tell you, but the other day I wanted to touch your hair, and it felt like I was grabbing a handful of tree bark.”

Xing Shu clicked his tongue and buried his head in Ye Xiyao’s neck: “Damn, that’s so embarrassing.”

—

As November rolled in, good things kept happening for Ye Xiyao.

First of all, the temperature in Lucheng dropped.

The crisp autumn air felt wonderfully refreshing. Coupled with the end of a busy work period, everyone’s mood improved significantly.

Secondly, that demon seemed to have vanished, not appearing for such a long time.

He and Xing Shu speculated that as long as they temporarily refrained from contacting the Alliance Government Security Bureau, it was highly likely that it wouldn’t strike again—though this was merely a baseless assumption, and they couldn’t fully relax just yet.

The best news, however, was that Wen Jisheng had woken up for nearly two hours yesterday and was even able to speak.

This was definitely a significant breakthrough.

Xing Shu immediately decided to go to the hospital to see Wen Jisheng and check the situation.

Ye Xiyao analyzed the probabilities of Xing Shu encountering someone from the Security Bureau or the demon if he went to the hospital alone. Ultimately, he felt it wasn’t very safe and decided to follow Xing Shu.

Xing Shu didn’t refuse but said he needed to stop by his own home first to grab something.

Ye Xiyao thought Xing Shu was going to get exorcism tools, but Xing Shu said, “I am the strongest weapon.”

Ye Xiyao was already accustomed to Xing Shu’s arrogance regarding exorcism, after all, he wasn’t exaggerating. The demon-slaying array was a very mysterious and powerful thing; even Ye Xiyao wouldn’t dare claim he could compete with a fully activated demon-slaying array.

Xing Shu entered his bedroom and asked, “I’m going to change clothes; are you coming in?”

Ye Xiyao didn’t follow him in but stayed in the living room to check out Xing Shu’s home. He found that this place seemed a bit different from the last time he had come.

A few minutes later, Xing Shu walked out.

Ye Xiyao stood up just in time to say, “It seems like someone is coming…”

Before he could finish his sentence, he closed his mouth and stood there silently.

His expression didn’t change, but he gave no reaction, staring intently at Xing Shu.

Xing Shu walked toward him and said, “It’s someone from the Security Bureau. I had Luo Yiji send me some things; he might have had someone help me tidy up.”

Ye Xiyao’s gaze remained unchanged, staring at Xing Shu without blinking. Xing Shu asked him, “What’s wrong?”

Ye Xiyao inexplicably swallowed a mouthful of saliva: “Why are you wearing that?”

“Patrol uniform?” Xing Shu organized his documents and secured his holster—though he didn’t need a gun much, it could still be useful sometimes. “Wen Jisheng’s ward has strict supervision, and wearing a police uniform makes things easier.”

Xing Shu walked toward the door.

Ye Xiyao followed behind him, walking a bit slowly.

When Xing Shu opened the door and waited for a while, noticing Ye Xiyao hadn’t caught up, he turned back to look at him: “Hmm?”

He realized something was off with Ye Xiyao and said, “Not feeling well? Why don’t you rest at home today?”

“No, no, I’ll go with you.” Ye Xiyao immediately retracted his gaze, ran up, and took Xing Shu’s hand. “Let’s go.”

Xing Shu didn’t say much more; he just glanced down at Ye Xiyao’s hand and then subtly assessed Ye Xiyao’s expression from the side before leading him to the hospital where Wen Jisheng was.

The imagined demon did not appear.

Unfortunately, the Security Bureau also seemed not to have sent anyone additional. The faces surrounding them were still a mix of unfamiliar and half-familiar ones, and since they couldn’t access any core secrets, Xing Shu couldn’t communicate much with them.

Their visit felt ill-timed; Wen Jisheng had fallen asleep again.

Wearing his patrol uniform, Xing Shu easily entered the ward. He exchanged a few simple words with the doctor and confirmed that Wen Jisheng’s condition was indeed improving, but it was unclear when he would fully recover.

Ye Xiyao walked to the bedside and tried to place his hand on Wen Jisheng.

A strange sensation washed over him.

He had an inexplicable awareness: Ye Xiyao felt that he could make this person wake up immediately.

But Ye Xiyao didn’t do that.

Because his energy was currently in a state of optimal balance, using any one side’s power would cause an imbalance, and right now, Xing Shu couldn’t provide him with enough demonic energy.

Ye Xiyao retracted his hand and looked at Xing Shu, intending to signal him that “we can leave now,” but when his gaze met Xing Shu’s, it suddenly froze.

Xing Shu looked at him: “?”

After a moment, Ye Xiyao finally said, “Oh, right, let’s go.”

Xing Shu nodded to the doctor and then took Ye Xiyao to the car.

As soon as they got in, he planned to take off his police uniform, but Ye Xiyao suddenly spoke up, saying, “It’s cold, the wind is strong when driving; take it off when we get home.”

Xing Shu glanced at him and shrugged: “Alright.”

Throughout the drive, no matter what Xing Shu said to Ye Xiyao, he seemed a bit distracted. Yet, out of the corner of his eye, he always stole glances at Xing Shu.

They parked, went upstairs, and entered the house. Ye Xiyao remained silent the entire time.

It wasn’t until Xing Shu took off his clothes and said he was going to take a shower that Ye Xiyao stepped forward, grabbed him, and calmly said, “I’ll help you.”

Xing Shu didn’t say anything but let go, allowing Ye Xiyao to help him take off his clothes. It was the first time he enjoyed such treatment. However, Xing Shu’s expression showed no surprise; instead, it appeared more playful.

Ye Xiyao took at least half a minute to undo the first button of his collar, his slender fingers slowly exploring down to the second button.

Suddenly, he was seized by Xing Shu at the wrist.

“Are you not familiar with the police uniform? Why are you taking it off so slowly?” Xing Shu teased, “Let me do it myself.”

He first unfastened the cold metal buckle and quickly removed the holster. Just as he was about to unbuckle his belt, Ye Xiyao anxiously grabbed his hand. However, in an instant, Xing Shu switched from defense to offense, forcefully gripping Ye Xiyao’s legs and lifting him up against the wall for a kiss.

Ye Xiyao didn’t push him away this time like before; instead, he seemed particularly obedient tonight, his mouth slightly open, dripping with sweet and soft nectar. Xing Shu could kiss him however he wanted, and Ye Xiyao didn’t struggle at all. His clothes were torn and scattered, while Xing Shu still wore the neat silver-black police uniform, looking like a good person.

In the pauses for breath, Xing Shu leaned close to Ye Xiyao’s lips and smiled, asking, “Do you like this?”

Ye Xiyao was very honest but spoke in a stammer due to his erratic breathing: “I… the first time I saw you, on the day at the convenience store, you were wearing it… later, at the company, when we were creating characters in the game, I thought of you…”

Xing Shu’s breath hitched: “Why did you think of me?”

Ye Xiyao’s legs trembled, barely holding on, and he could only reach out to cling to Xing Shu’s neck. The police uniform felt cold and hard against him, making him shiver. “Because you look good in it.”

“Really?” Xing Shu bit his chin. “There are so many people in police uniforms; you think they all look good?”

“They all look pretty good… umm!” Ye Xiyao gasped against Xing Shu, “Don’t rush me; I haven’t finished.”

Xing Shu reminded him, “Then you’d better say it quickly; otherwise, I might get jealous.”

Ye Xiyao quickly added, “When others wear this outfit, I think the outfit looks good. But when you wear it, I think you look good. Actually, I saw a lot of patrol officers that day, but only when I encountered you did I take a second glance.”

“So, long ago, when I didn’t know, you secretly looked at me.” Xing Shu bit his ear. “Isn’t that right?”

Ye Xiyao couldn’t deny it, so he whispered, “Yes…”

With the sound of his confession, it was as if a volcanic eruption released magma into a long-dry, cracked land, making everything even hotter and finally turning that fragile bit of reason to dust.
