Is a Succubus Considered a Demon? – CH46

Chapter 46

Ye Xiyao realized that ever since Xing Shu confessed to him in front of the birthday cake, it was as if a mysterious switch had been turned on. His personality hadn’t exactly changed drastically, but his entire demeanor was different.

Ye Xiyao knew, of course, that the warmth, thoughtfulness, and stability of the previous Xing Shu had all been put on for the sake of his mission.

But Ye Xiyao had also heard from Qiao Linchuan about some of Xing Shu’s earlier behavior, so he had mentally prepared himself—if Xing Shu revealed his true nature after the mission and turned into a fierce and domineering person, at least he wouldn’t be surprised.

However, the Xing Shu in front of him was unlike any version of Xing Shu that should theoretically exist.

Xing Shu was overly excited.

It seemed like he had forgotten that not long ago, he had almost been killed by a demon, and he didn’t care much about what troublesome problems might arise in the future.

For him, the most important person was only Ye Xiyao, and the most important thing was finding a way to stay at Ye Xiyao’s home.

After lunch, they returned together to Ye Xiyao’s house.

Soon after, Xing Shu started his grand undertaking—he busied himself in Ye Xiyao’s less than 40-square-meter apartment, cleaning, mopping the floor, changing bed sheets, doing laundry, cooking, and taking out the trash, all without a moment’s rest.

When he attempted to wash the nearly two-meter-tall stuffed toy, Ye Laoshi, Ye Xiyao couldn’t help but call for him to take a break.

Xing Shu obediently sat down, cross-legged on the floor, flashing a big smile at Ye Xiyao.

Ye Xiyao felt a bit shy under his gaze and asked, “Are you hot? Should I turn on the air conditioning?”

“No need, don’t turn it on.” Xing Shu, soaked in sweat and wearing a black shirt, replied, “I’ll just take a shower.”

Ye Xiyao thought for a moment but still turned on the air conditioning: “I’m not that afraid of the cold; around 26 degrees should be fine.”

Xing Shu nodded: “Whatever you say is fine.”

Xing Shu’s attentiveness and enthusiasm made it impossible for Ye Xiyao to say something like, “You should go home.” Furthermore, with the demon issue still weighing on Ye Xiyao’s mind, even though he knew it wouldn’t kill Xing Shu for now, it didn’t mean that Xing Shu was safe at that moment.

Thus, in the end, he accepted Xing Shu’s feelings.

Ye Xiyao agreed to let him stay.

Of course, he needed to change out of his wet clothes, but aside from a pair of shorts for sleeping, he surprisingly hadn’t brought any change of clothes with him.

After finishing dinner, when the weather outside cooled down a bit, Ye Xiyao suggested going to buy clothes for Xing Shu.

Xing Shu would certainly not refuse, grabbing his hand and wanting to go.

“Wait.” Ye Xiyao said, “Let me grab my bank card.”

Although most people now use more convenient mobile payments, Ye Xiyao felt that such a simple payment method could lead to unplanned spending, so he was accustomed to keeping his money in a bank card, taking out only what he needed each time.

But today, he had brought all his cards with him.

To be honest, Ye Xiyao’s heart was trembling.

He wasn’t stingy, and he would never be tight-fisted with Xing Shu. But his financial situation just couldn’t compare to Xing Shu’s—just the shirt Xing Shu was wearing was certainly a five-digit number. And his shoes were from a brand Ye Xiyao had never heard of; he assumed it was some custom brand for the wealthy that he couldn’t afford anyway.

In short, Ye Xiyao was certain he couldn’t allow Xing Shu to depend on him financially. Plus, if Xing Shu went on a shopping spree tonight, then Ye Xiyao would have to survive on air for the next month.

However, Ye Xiyao wasn’t afraid of going hungry; he brought all his cards because he wasn’t afraid of spending money on Xing Shu. He mainly worried that even if he combined all his money, it still might not satisfy Xing Shu’s spending.

Half an hour later, Ye Xiyao found he was worrying too much.

Xing Shu didn’t drive him to the mall; instead, he directly took Ye Xiyao’s hand and walked for ten minutes to a nearby night market street.

In the evening, as dusk fell, the market was at its liveliest.

Ye Xiyao watched in amazement as Xing Shu bought two identical black T-shirts and a pair of flip-flops in the dazzling bustle of the market.

In response to Ye Xiyao’s bewildered gaze, Xing Shu explained, “Black doesn’t show dirt; if it gets splattered with blood, you can’t tell. The flip-flops are light; they can come off easily in combat.”

He shouldn’t have explained, but once he did, Ye Xiyao was dumbfounded: “You normally dress like this to hunt… capture those things?”

Xing Shu said, “It depends on the situation; I wear different things, but the simpler, the better. After all, tasks wait for no one; I can’t very well dress up just to meet those things, can I?”

Ye Xiyao actually found this a bit reasonable.

Xing Shu looked at Ye Xiyao’s expression, which seemed to suggest he had learned something, and laughed as he pinched Ye Xiyao’s cheek, saying, “Do you think I enjoy wearing those suits and shirts all day? I was forced to by Xue Qiao.”

Back when he had to parachute into Qiaoshou Technology for a mission, Xing Shu had sat casually in the boss’s chair, yawning while wearing flip-flops. Xue Qiao had been so shocked that she directly called in a professional styling team to custom-make dozens of suits for Xing Shu, which had annoyed him to no end.

In fact, with Xing Shu’s physique, he could pull off any outfit without difficulty.

But he had to admit that he really wasn’t suited to wearing suits and ties.

He managed to make a suit look… well, to put it nicely, like a refined rogue, but to put it bluntly, it gave off the impression of a savage beast in fine clothes.

The worst part was that Xing Shu couldn’t accept the feeling of being constricted by the fabric.

Just raising his arm and throwing a punch could tear the clothing apart.

As Xue Qiao had once remarked, “For most men, if they lack charisma while wearing a suit, they can come off as if they’re sneaking around in someone else’s clothes. But you’re different; you wear it with such presence, as if you’ve stolen someone else’s outfit—though it doesn’t quite fit, you wear it with complete confidence.”

Xing Shu: “?”

In any case, after trying on numerous outfits, Xing Shu was unsatisfied, and Xue Qiao wouldn’t allow him to wear his old clothes that had been soaked in blood countless times.

Fortunately, shirts were always a safe bet; Xing Shu looked good in them, and they weren’t too constricting, so they both compromised and ultimately created the present-day image of “Mr. Xing” who looked impeccably put together.

Ye Xiyao laughed after hearing Xing Shu describe the experience of trying on clothes that day as if he were going to the gallows: “It seems you really hate wearing suits.”

Xing Shu suddenly said, “But if you like it, I can reluctantly wear it for you every day.”

Ye Xiyao replied, “Then you can breathe easy because I also think suits are very inconvenient.”

Xing Shu: “What a pity.”

Ye Xiyao: “?”

Ye Xiyao didn’t understand what Xing Shu meant by “what a pity,” but then he suddenly glanced in a certain direction.

Xing Shu followed his gaze.

It was a family of three choosing pineapples at a fruit stand.

The child was clamoring for a big one, and the mother said he wouldn’t finish it. Just as he was about to cry, the father picked him up and said, “Then let’s buy a big one; if you can’t finish it, Mommy and Daddy will help you.”

The child cheered up, and the family happily walked away with the pineapple.

For a moment, Xing Shu thought of Xue Min.

But he quickly realized that even if Xue Min were alive, such a warm scene could never occur in their family.

Because at that time, Xue Min spent all day exorcising demons. The first gift she gave Xing Shu was a gun, and the snacks she bought him were buns stuffed with mustard. Moreover, Xue Min’s insanity didn’t target just him; his madness had harmed countless people.

Xing Shu never reminisced about Xue Min, not because he didn’t like her for not being gentle, but because he had known since he was very young that Xue Min would die, and he himself would die young as well—at least until he met Ye Xiyao, he firmly believed in this.

Xing Shu snapped back to reality and immediately thought that Ye Xiyao was looking over there, perhaps reminiscing about his own parents.

Unlike Xing Shu, Ye Xiyao had never even felt the existence of a family.

He was an orphan abandoned in the human world from the moment he was born, growing up with nothing.

So, when he saw such a warm family, he would naturally feel envious, sad, and heartbroken…

…Right?

“I need to eat a pineapple.”

Ye Xiyao cheerfully pulled Xing Shu toward the fruit stand, asking, “Do you want some?”

Xing Shu couldn’t help but chuckle at his earlier melancholic thoughts.

He felt ashamed for underestimating Ye Xiyao.

Ye Xiyao had grown up on his own; he could not possibly be a weak child.

“Let’s eat.” Xing Shu took his hand and ran, saying, “Let’s pick the biggest one.”

–

Xing Shu hadn’t had a particular interest in pineapples before, but today he found them quite tasty.

However, by the time they finished browsing the night market, Ye Xiyao still hadn’t finished his piece of pineapple.

Xing Shu held several bags filled with daily necessities he would use at Ye Xiyao’s place, along with some simple clothing.

Ye Xiyao nibbled on the pineapple beside Xing Shu, taking small bites.

At first, Xing Shu thought Ye Xiyao was just eating slowly because he had a small mouth, so he didn’t ask. Instead, he couldn’t help but sneak glances at him.

Later, as they walked home on a less crowded street, Ye Xiyao suddenly let out a hiss.

Xing Shu hurriedly looked over and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Ye Xiyao looked up under the streetlight, his pitiful little face wrinkled as he stuck out his tongue. A tiny bead of blood appeared at the tip of his tongue. He said, “Xing Shu, the pineapple is attacking me!”

Xing Shu was taken aback, feeling a mix of wanting to laugh and feeling a bit heartbroken. He wanted to comfort Ye Xiyao but couldn’t suppress his amusement.

He glanced at a passerby to ensure no one was watching them at that moment, then quickly lowered his head, gently taking Ye Xiyao’s soft tongue into his mouth, sucking lightly to remove the blood bead, along with a bit of the pineapple’s sweet and sour flavor. “Does it feel better?”

Ye Xiyao replied, “It still hurts.”

Xing Shu adopted a serious expression and said, “Looks like I need to eliminate the remnants of this pineapple.”

Ye Xiyao was afraid he would really do something to him on this busy street, so he jumped up and ran home, determined not to let Xing Shu have his way, saying, “What can a tiny pineapple do to me? I’m going home to rinse my mouth!”

“Slow down.” Xing Shu leisurely followed him, carrying the bags in both hands. “Throw that pineapple away quickly; don’t really hurt for a whole night.”

Ye Xiyao suddenly stopped, turned around, and licked another bite of pineapple right in front of him.

Xing Shu: “???”

Ye Xiyao: “Am I brave?”

Xing Shu laughed in exasperation, “You’re a bit too brave.”

Ye Xiyao laughed along with him. He found a trash can by the side of the road and was about to throw away the remaining half of the pineapple when Xing Shu said, “Feed me.”

Ye Xiyao was confused, “Didn’t you finish one already? You shouldn’t eat this one; eating too much will make you bleed like me.”

Xing Shu replied, “I plan to help you get revenge and defeat this pineapple.”

Ye Xiyao: “?”

In the next moment, Ye Xiyao stuffed the pineapple into Xing Shu’s mouth, saying, “Alright, it’s up to you. Beat it!”

A few minutes later, the two brave souls, both with bleeding corners of their mouths, returned home and walked into the bathroom to rinse their mouths.

As they unintentionally looked up, their eyes met in the mirror.

It was unclear who laughed first, but soon they couldn’t stop.

Then, the coolness of the toothpaste mingled with the lingering sourness of the pineapple, the sharp pain on their tongues merging with the tingling sensations on their bodies.

So, what was supposed to hurt didn’t hurt anymore, and what was sour surprisingly became sweet.
