Chapter 33
Around 3:30 in the afternoon, the research team received the samples that Xing Xu had retrieved—delivered personally by him.
The expressions of the researchers were quite remarkable, and their emotions were rather complicated. Of course, their reactions weren’t directed at the demonic energy samples, but at Xing Xu himself.
Over the years, Xing Xu had visited the Security Bureau several times, each time carrying an air of arrogance, walking with an imposing presence, radiating a murderous aura wherever he went. Even the head of the Security Bureau seemed to be of lower status in his presence, and no one else dared to make eye contact or initiate conversation with him.
It was an unspoken understanding that anyone caught in Xing Xu’s sights was bound for bad luck.
But today, Xing Xu was different.
… Very different.
First of all, he knocked on the door before entering.
Second, when he spoke to the researchers, he actually began with a “hello.”
The researcher he spoke to immediately collapsed to the floor, his legs giving out: “I… I haven’t offended you!”
Xing Xu responded, “I know.”
His tone carried an uncharacteristic caution, coupled with a politeness they had never seen before. He nodded slightly to the timid researchers in front of him and said, “No need to be nervous. I just want to ask if these samples are usable.”
Instinctively, everyone looked at the samples Xing Xu had brought in—demon blood, saliva, and a small lock of hair.
In theory, these were all good samples, but the amounts were incredibly small. Particularly the blood—while the minimum requirement in the original plan was 10ml, the blood Xing Xu had returned with barely reached 2ml.
He was worried it wouldn’t be enough.
—If it wasn’t enough, they could simply proceed with the three action plans from Yu Liefeng’s team, ensuring they could obtain a larger, more sufficient sample of demonic energy.
To prevent anyone from suggesting the above, Xing Xu spoke again before the researchers could respond:
“If these aren’t enough, you can examine my body first.”
Everyone froze.
Yang Xiangchi, the demon researcher who had always disliked Xing Xu for his brutal and domineering ways but was obsessed with demon samples, asked, “Examine your body? What do you mean?”
Xing Xu explained, “Fifteen minutes ago, I was attacked by him. There should still be residual demonic energy on me.”
He was downplaying it.
In fact, while Ye Xiyao had been sleeping, Xing Xu had tried to collect as much demonic energy as possible without hurting him. After much deliberation, he took a risk and reached into Ye Xiyao’s pants, thinking that semen would make a great sample.
Unfortunately, the sneak attack failed.
He startled the sleeping Ye Xiyao, who reflexively kicked him hard.
Xing Xu estimated that the power behind that kick contained at least five times the magic of Ye Xiyao’s attack on the stalker previously.
It seemed that, in Ye Xiyao’s subconscious, Xing Xu was even more dangerous than a stalker.
“What?! You were attacked by a demon?” Luo Yiji, standing nearby, was clearly more concerned with this revelation, immediately grabbing Xing Xu to inspect him carefully. Xing Xu, however, brushed him off.
“Let’s not waste time.” Xing Xu, ever the pragmatic one, took off his shirt and laid himself down on a relatively clean table in the lab, treating himself like an experimental subject. “Go ahead.”
Yang Xiangchi was startled and warned him, “That’s an autopsy table. It’s going to be uncomfortable lying there.”
“It’s the same wherever. Just—” Xing Xu stopped mid-sentence, realizing he was now in a position of needing help. He closed his mouth, softened his tone, and asked, “Then where should I lie down?”
How terrifying.
At this moment, everyone had the same thought.
Had Xing Xu been knocked senseless by the demon?
His attitude was so unnaturally polite, it was like a final burst of energy before dying.
“Please follow me.”
Only Yang Xiangchi remembered that analyzing demonic energy was urgent, and, disregarding her usual prejudice against Xing Xu, led him into an adjacent room.
The other researchers quickly followed.
In fact, Xing Xu had thought things through quite well.
The demonic energy lingering on Xing Xu was indeed abundant, and since he arrived promptly, unlike the last person whose demonic energy had nearly dissipated, Yang Xiangchi was able to extract enough samples for observation this time.
Meanwhile, Liu Chang and others ensured that the other samples Xing Xu brought back were properly preserved.
An hour later, the door to the observation room opened, and Xing Xu walked out. Although his face showed no particular expression, it was clear that he was in a good mood. Yang Xiangchi had just told him that the demonic energy extracted from his body was sufficient for their experiments, and the other samples could be used for supplemental tests later.
Despite the small amount of blood Xing Xu had brought back, the other samples—saliva and hair—made up for the shortfall, allowing for a broader range of observations. Unless something unexpected happened, there would be no immediate need to obtain more tissue samples from Ye Xiyao.
After hearing Yang Xiangchi’s final remarks, Xing Xu said, “Alright, thank you.”
Yang Xiangchi was stunned, her jaw dropping in disbelief. She whispered to the person next to her, “Did he just thank me?”
The person next to her was equally shocked and whispered back, “It seems like he did.”
Without paying further attention to them, Xing Xu put on his clothes and left gracefully. But just as he stepped out of the observation room, Luo Yiji was the first to rush up to him, dragging him toward his office without saying a word.
“What’s going on? Did you expose yourself? Did the demon suspect you? Why did he suddenly attack?”
Luo Yiji, imagining a bloody battle in his mind, became drenched in cold sweat, his words spilling out rapidly. To outsiders, Xing Xu was just an exorcist highly regarded by the Security Bureau for his strength. So when they heard he had residual demonic energy on him, their first reaction was to quickly conduct observations.
But Luo Yiji’s relationship with Xing Xu was much deeper, and naturally, he was more concerned about his personal safety.
While Luo Yiji was worrying himself sick, Xing Xu casually yawned as he sat in Luo’s office chair. “No, I didn’t expose myself. Strictly speaking, he doesn’t know anything yet.”
“He doesn’t know? Then why did he attack you?” Luo Yiji was stunned. “What did you do?”
Lazily, Xing Xu replied, “In any case, I got the samples. Don’t worry about the method.”
“…And your injury? Is it really okay? Shouldn’t you visit the medical room?” Luo Yiji felt Xing Xu was hiding something.
“No need,” Xing Xu said dismissively. “It’s just two broken bones.”
Luo Yiji shouted, “Wha-what?!”
“Shh,” Xing Xu rubbed his ear, “Too loud.”
Luo Yiji, furious, fumed, “You’ve got broken bones, and you’re just sitting here?! Go to the hospital right now!”
“I’m waiting for the results,” Xing Xu replied curtly.
Luo Yiji suddenly fell silent.
As he calmed down, he realized just how abnormal Xing Xu had been today. From being overly polite to everyone, to volunteering as a test subject, and now, even after being hit so hard by a demon that he broke two ribs, he showed no signs of anger, leisurely waiting for the final results.
None of this seemed like the Xing Xu he knew.
“Oh, by the way,” Xing Xu suddenly said, “Make me another copy of all the information you have on Ye Xiyao, from his childhood until now.”
Luo Yiji was already numb to his strange behavior. “Didn’t you say last time that it was useless? You tore it up, saying all demons are the same…”
“He’s different,” Xing Xu tapped the table with his finger, cutting Luo Yiji off, “I want to look at it again.”
Luo Yiji stared at him. “It seems like you already have some answers. Aren’t you going to report them?”
“It’s just a theory for now, I need more evidence,” Xing Xu replied, meeting his gaze and shutting down Luo Yiji’s probing, “If you’re free, go supervise the lab. The sooner they get results, the sooner you’ll hear my answer.”
Luo Yiji knew Xing Xu was cautious in such matters. If he wasn’t sure or lacked enough proof, he wouldn’t report anything prematurely, as too much information could disrupt the mission.
At that moment, Luo Yiji’s gaze unintentionally swept over Xing Xu’s left hand, and he paused slightly.
Xing Xu always wore gloves, regardless of the season. But recently, to avoid raising Ye Xiyao’s suspicions, he had wrapped his hand in bandages, pretending to be injured.
At some point, he had removed the bandages.
The palm that once bore the Demon-Slaying Array now only had two faint red marks left. If you didn’t look closely, you’d think it was just a deep palm line and wouldn’t suspect anything else. But Luo Yiji knew better than anyone. Since Xing Xu was fifteen or sixteen years old, the eye of the Demon-Slaying Array had deepened, becoming inseparable from his flesh and bones. As he exorcised more demons, the array expanded, and once it reached his heart, the backlash would inevitably erupt uncontrollably.
Now, the Demon-Slaying Array was so shallow it was almost invisible. Xing Xu must have done something.
Luo Yiji was about to ask when Xing Xu, seemingly unconsciously, covered his left palm. He looked at Luo with an expression that was half-smiling.
Xing Xu: “Curious?”
Luo Yiji: “It’s hard not to be curious, but since you’re not willing to explain, I can only hold it in.”
Xing Xu: “Good, keep holding it in.”
Luo Yiji: “…”
—
An hour later, the test results came out.
Ye Xiyao’s report was divided into two parts: one was the [Demonic Energy Detection Report], and the other was the [Sample Detection Report].
The data from the two reports were completely different, which not only shocked Xing Xu and Luo Yiji in the office but also alarmed the entire Security Bureau.
“Firstly, we can preliminarily confirm that Ye Xiyao’s demonic energy indeed contains two different types of energy. One of these energies can purify demonic energy. Because of this, the two energies have formed a peculiar balance within his body. This is likely why Ye Xiyao, despite being a powerful demon, has never displayed violent behavior. His self-balance makes him different from the bloodthirsty nature typical of demons. The second point is…”
In the conference hall, everyone silently listened to Yang Xiangchi’s explanation. Even the usually arrogant Xing Xu was paying close attention today.
But soon, the more they listened, the more confused they became.
Finally, someone raised a question: “Excuse me, I might not have understood correctly. Could Professor Yang explain what you mean by ‘the demon’s samples contain no demonic energy’?”
The so-called “demon’s samples” referred to the ones Xing Xu had brought back. Although there weren’t many of them, the variety of samples allowed the researchers to reach this unexpected conclusion.
Patiently, Yang Xiangchi reiterated to everyone, “From the demon’s blood, we extracted demonic energy identical to what was found in Xing Xu’s wound. However, in his saliva and hair, no demonic energy was detected.”
Xing Xu’s expression flickered, but he said nothing. Others quickly began arguing over the conclusion.
“Professor Yang, if I remember correctly, wasn’t it your team that concluded ‘the demon’s physical form is materialized from their demonic energy’? Now you’re saying his saliva and hair contain no demonic energy. What does that mean?”
“Everyone, calm down. Let me speculate… Could this mean that Ye Xiyao isn’t actually a demon but rather a human possessed by a demon?”
“That’s impossible! You’ve forgotten how strong Ye Xiyao’s power is. If a human were possessed by such a powerful demon, their body would completely decay within 24 hours.”
“Wait a moment, let’s all be quiet. I’m getting confused… So, can we at least confirm that Ye Xiyao’s body isn’t being sustained by demonic energy?”
Yang Xiangchi answered this question with certainty: “Yes.”
From past experience dealing with demons, it was known that a demon’s true form was a terrifying entity beyond human comprehension. Their humanoid form was just a disguise—they could be a man one day and a woman the next. Even if you cut off their head, they could regrow it. To maintain their human form, demons would constantly release demonic energy to shape their physical body.
But now, since no demonic energy was detected in Ye Xiyao’s samples, the only explanation was that his body wasn’t materialized by demonic energy and didn’t require it to maintain the disguise.
Although the researchers hadn’t yet figured out why this was the case, the conclusion was clear.
Ye Xiyao’s blood, along with the demonic energy he struck Xing Xu with, proved that he was indeed a powerful demon. Yet, at the same time, the other samples from his body indicated that when he was completely relaxed, there was no energy fluctuation in his body.
There were only two possible explanations for this phenomenon: either Ye Xiyao was a human possessed by a demon, or—more likely—Ye Xiyao, though a demon, was in his true body.
He didn’t use magic to imitate a human and turn into “Ye Xiyao.” Instead, he actually grew to look like this.
—
Ye Xiyao was woken up by Qiao Linchuan.
Glancing at the time, he realized it was already the end of the workday.
He shot up from the bed in shock, exclaiming, “Oh no! Time-disappearing magic!”
Qiao Linchuan, leaning against the door with his arms crossed, chuckled, “It’s not just time that disappeared; a certain boss who spends the whole day slacking off did too.”
He was referring to Xing Xu.
Two hours earlier, Xing Xu had suddenly left the office. Before leaving, he had stopped Qiao Linchuan and specifically asked him not to disturb Ye Xiyao’s sleep and to save any work for the next day.
At the time, Qiao Linchuan had replied, “If you want to slack off, fine, but don’t drag him down with you. He’s here to make a living, unlike you, with your wealth and no worries.”
On any other day, Qiao Linchuan would have been scolded by Xing Xu for that remark. But today, Xing Xu had hurried off with a sealed file in hand, not even bothering to respond.
He let Qiao Linchuan off the hook.
“Oh, by the way, Xiaobao, we’ve planned to go pick up Wen Jisheng from the hospital tomorrow. Do you want to come? Of course, you haven’t met him yet, so if you don’t want to, you…”
Qiao Linchuan suddenly paused mid-sentence, took a few steps closer, and asked, “Wait, what happened to your mouth?”
“Hm?”
Ye Xiyao was still groggy from sleeping too long. Just as he was about to speak, he let out a sharp hiss of pain.
What was going on?
His lip had a large cut—it hurt!
Qiao Linchuan was even more alarmed than he was. “Why is it bleeding?! Don’t talk. I’ll go find a first-aid kit. How do you even tear your lip while sleeping…”
“No, no, it’s just a small cut. No need for medicine.”
Ye Xiyao had just been confused earlier, but now fully awake, he licked his lips and thought back to what had caused the bleeding. Immediately, he recalled what he had been doing with Xing Xu before falling asleep. A wave of guilt quickly replaced the pain.
Qiao Linchuan, as if suddenly realizing something, froze in place, staring intently at Ye Xiyao’s lips. His eyes darkened, and he gritted his teeth, growling, “Xing Xu! It was Xing Xu, wasn’t it?! That bastard dared to do this!”
Ye Xiyao covered his face, feeling terrible. Xing Xu had probably kissed him because of the influence of his succubus-like aura, and the real problem was that Ye Xiyao hadn’t pushed him away.
He was racking his brain, trying to figure out how to take the blame himself.
Before he could think of a solution, Qiao Linchuan yelled, “He hit you, didn’t he?! On the face! That guy is just awful!”
Ye Xiyao blinked. “Huh?”
Qiao Linchuan: “Don’t worry, sweetheart! Sure, Xing Xu may be tough, and I can’t beat him one-on-one, but I’ll rally everyone in our department and help you get revenge. I’ll knock his teeth out!”
Ye Xiyao hesitated, stammering out a weak defense, “He didn’t hit me… I accidentally hurt myself.”
“Don’t bother! I won’t let this go quietly. It’s outrageous! How could he do that to your face? It’s cruel and inhumane!”
Qiao Linchuan continued his tirade for a long time, seemingly unable to calm down. He led Ye Xiyao out of the office and down the stairs, still furious. He added, “I should just go to President Xue tomorrow! I’ll make Xing Xu understand that violence solves nothing!”
Ye Xiyao tried to explain countless times, “Brother Qiao, he really didn’t hit me.”
But Qiao Linchuan refused to believe him.
Eventually, they parted ways at the subway entrance. Qiao Linchuan grabbed a shared bike to ride home. Just as he put his foot on the pedal, he heard Ye Xiyao, in a moment of frustration, mutter, “He bit my lip.”
Then, Ye Xiyao turned and quickly ran into the subway station.
“B-bit!?”
Qiao Linchuan’s coordination failed him at that moment. He squeezed the brake while pressing the pedal, causing him to tumble straight to the ground.
Ye Xiyao had no idea where Xing Xu suddenly went after leaving. He thought about contacting him, but the subway was crowded, and he didn’t even have the space to pull out his phone.
When he finally got off the train and stepped out of the crowd, Ye Xiyao took out his phone but still didn’t reach out to Xing Xu. He wasn’t sure what to say, just felt uneasy.
Even though Ye Xiyao had never had close friends before, he knew that kissing wasn’t something friends typically do. Especially considering how Xing Xu seemed like he couldn’t get enough…
It must be due to Ye Xiyao’s succubus-like nature, making Xing Xu unable to resist physical attraction toward him. That would explain the closeness and the overwhelming desire.
Even though Ye Xiyao had tried his best to suppress his aura, things still escalated to this point…
Wait a second.
Something wasn’t right…
Ye Xiyao suddenly realized that Qiao Linchuan and the others had spent just as much time around him, but none of them exhibited the same symptoms as Xing Xu.
Could it be something about Xing Xu’s own constitution?
Maybe Xing Xu just had a stronger libido? He was easily provoked?
Ye Xiyao couldn’t help but recall the time Xing Xu stayed over at his house. Back then, his physical reactions were particularly intense, pressing his burning body against Ye Xiyao from behind, making it impossible to ignore.
“What a mess,” Ye Xiyao slapped his forehead. “Stop thinking about it.”
His lip wound throbbed inconveniently, reminding him again. He found himself wondering, why had Xing Xu kissed him so forcefully? That man seemed to have endless energy, even kissing was more aggressive than normal, biting his lip hard enough to break the skin.
… So annoying.
Stop thinking about it.
Ye Xiyao closed the messaging app and locked his phone, deciding to avoid the issue for now.
As he continued walking home, he suddenly noticed something odd — the street was surprisingly empty today.
He checked the time, it was past 6:40, peak rush hour. Where was everyone?
Was there some holiday he didn’t know about? Was everyone out celebrating behind his back?
Whenever something was on his mind, Ye Xiyao would start overthinking, his thoughts spiraling out of control.
“Oh!” He stopped in his tracks and clapped his hands. “My birthday is coming up!”
September 10th was the date on his ID, which wasn’t exactly his birthday but the day he was brought to the orphanage.
But Ye Xiyao always considered it as his new beginning, and so he celebrated it every year. On that day, he’d buy himself a small cake to mark the occasion.
He had never shared his birthday cake with anyone before. But now he had friends, so he didn’t have to spend it alone.
He thought, “This year, I’ll buy a big cake.”
He’d give a slice to Xing Xu, one to Qiao Linchuan, and one each to Lu Kou, Xu Xingyang, Qin Zai, and the rest. He’d even save a slice for his colleague Wen Jisheng, who had been sick in the hospital for a month and still hadn’t met Ye Xiyao yet.
Counting on his fingers, Ye Xiyao skipped along the road, feeling lighter.
Suddenly, he heard the loud sound of a speeding vehicle, moving so fast that even Ye Xiyao, standing on the sidewalk, felt uneasy.
This was a residential area where cars were supposed to slow down. Who was so reckless as to speed up here?
Ye Xiyao looked in the direction of the sound.
–
Xing Xu’s face had never looked so grim. “What do you mean the self-driving car is already on the road and can’t be stopped?”
“I’ll have the tech team check it out.” Luo Yiji’s expression was equally dark.
When he received Xing Xu’s call, he had immediately contacted Yu Liefeng, instructing them to urgently halt three ongoing plans.
Yu Liefeng had acted quickly, managing to retract the high-altitude projectiles that had been intended for Ye Xiyao within half an hour. But the self-driving car, which had been programmed to run him over, had already been set on its automated course.
“But Yu Liefeng is not a technician. He probably forgot to confirm one of the steps during the reset process, so when the time came, the car still followed the initial settings and drove toward Ye Xiyao.
To make matters worse, Yu Liefeng and the others thought they had set everything up properly, so they returned to the safety bureau. In other words, there was no one watching the car at the moment.
The autonomous driving system was fully functional and could track the only moving object on that road—Ye Xiyao. The car was programmed to crash into the nearest wall as soon as it got within a 5-meter radius of Ye Xiyao, triggering a large-scale explosion that would engulf Ye Xiyao in the blast.
The team only realized this after the car had already left and sent back live updates. Now, the car was already on the road, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, it would complete its original mission in less than ten minutes.
“I’m sorry, it was my mistake. I didn’t do a final confirmation according to the driving instructions. I’ll go fix it right now—”
Yu Liefeng couldn’t believe he had made such a rookie error. He didn’t know much about this demon, Ye Xiyao, but he was more concerned about disrupting Xing Xu’s demon-hunting mission. He stepped forward to apologize to Xing Xu.
But before he could finish speaking, Xing Xu cut him off coldly.
“Get lost!” Xing Xu had no patience for such hindsight-driven explanations. The only thing on his mind was saving Ye Xiyao. Without a second thought, he took off running at full speed.
—
Ye Xiyao looked up, surprise flickering in his eyes.
He was all too familiar with the speeding car—it was Xing Xu’s.
Seriously… Why is he driving so fast? Is he coming to find me?
Ye Xiyao couldn’t help but smile. When the car was about two to three hundred meters away, he jumped up, waved, and shouted loudly, “Xing Xu! Slow down! Be careful—”
The next moment, the scene in front of him seemed to slow down.
With a loud crash, a car that appeared from a nearby intersection slammed into Xing Xu’s vehicle.
The collision produced a deafening noise that echoed through the empty street, leaving a ringing in everyone’s ears.
In nearly the next second, both cars, now mangled beyond recognition, exploded with a burst of sparks, followed by a series of explosions. Flames roared into the air, their fiery tongues licking at the street walls ten meters away.
The entire intersection was engulfed in flames, the blazing inferno radiating a deadly arrogance, burning Ye Xiyao’s eyes from a hundred meters away.
Ye Xiyao stood frozen for only a moment before sprinting towards the flames. He didn’t even have the strength to shout Xing Xu’s name; his heart pounded as if it were about to burst from his chest.
But before he could get far, a hand grabbed him. Ye Xiyao struggled for a moment, then suddenly heard a familiar voice beside him.
“Don’t go.”
At some point, Xing Xu had appeared beside him, gently placing a hand on Ye Xiyao’s shoulder. “Be careful, you might get burned.”
“What are you doing here?” Ye Xiyao stared blankly at Xing Xu, then turned to look at the cars at the intersection. “Then who was driving the car?”
Xing Xu replied, “No one. They were both on autopilot.”
Ye Xiyao looked incredulous. “That makes no sense, absolutely no sense. Why would they do that?”
He had truly believed Xing Xu was in the car. He thought Xing Xu had died.
Ye Xiyao couldn’t describe how he felt in that moment—just suffocated, as if an inexplicable terror had overwhelmed his entire being. Even though Xing Xu was now standing in front of him, the fear still lingered.
Ye Xiyao suddenly realized that Xing Xu’s presence was more important to him than he had imagined.
If Xing Xu had died, he would have gone to hell to bring him back.
“Were you scared?”
Xing Xu gently rubbed the back of Ye Xiyao’s neck, trying to calm him down.
But Ye Xiyao couldn’t seem to compose himself. He was trembling all over, unable to utter a single word.
Xing Xu furrowed his brow, assuming Ye Xiyao was scared. He patted Ye Xiyao’s back. “It’s okay now. It’s okay. It was my fault; I should have come sooner. Don’t be afraid, you’re shaking.”
In the next moment, however, Ye Xiyao reached out and hugged Xing Xu, his voice much calmer than Xing Xu had expected. “I’m not shaking.”
Xing Xu was momentarily stunned.
“It’s your body that’s too tense, which is why you’re shaking,” Ye Xiyao mimicked Xing Xu’s earlier action, gently patting Xing Xu’s back. He said softly, “Xing Xu, what’s wrong? Are you afraid of the explosion?”
Xing Xu found himself at a loss for words, his tongue stiff, unable to say anything. All he could do was keep looking at Ye Xiyao, as if he could never look enough.
Yes, he was scared.
He was afraid that he arrived too late, that this foolish little demon who grew up in human society, Ye Xiyao, would be caught in a human scheme and be consumed by the sea of flames.
Ye Xiyao’s body is his true form, so what would happen if he got hurt? Xing Xu didn’t even dare to imagine.
Another explosion sounded from behind, rattling their ears painfully.
But Xing Xu seemed unable to hear anything at all.
There was another voice in his head, louder than any explosion.
He thought, some answers couldn’t be clearer now.
After all, the reason Xing Xu had humbled himself today at the safety bureau, lowering his pride to ‘ask’ those researchers to carefully examine Ye Xiyao’s samples, wasn’t really to hear them prove that Ye Xiyao was harmless and give himself an excuse to let Ye Xiyao go.
Because he had long known what he wanted to do.
He and Ye Xiyao laughed and joked together every day, constantly looking into each other’s eyes—no matter how good the disguise, there were bound to be flaws. And then there was that surveillance camera that had accidentally captured Ye Xiyao, always seeing him at home, looking silly and talking to himself.
How could he not know that Ye Xiyao wasn’t a terrifying demon at all?
But Xing Xu couldn’t bring himself to declare this conclusion, which was still unsupported, because he had his own selfish reasons, and he knew it.
But the demon energy detection was different. It was a result witnessed by everyone in the safety bureau.
Only when everyone knew the truth that Xing Xu had already known could he openly and righteously protect Ye Xiyao.
Finally, he got the result he wanted, but he had almost been a moment too late.
How could he not be afraid?
“Xing Xu…?” Ye Xiyao looked at him, who hadn’t said a word, and started pulling out his phone. “I should call the police, right?”
Xing Xu pressed down on his hand. “No need, someone will come to handle it.”
Ye Xiyao looked at him, a trace of confusion crossing his mind, but he didn’t ask any further. He only said, “So, should we wait here now or…?”
“Let’s go home,” Xing Xu said. “I’m a coward, scared of the explosion, and now my legs feel weak and my heart is anxious. I need to go home with you.”
