Chapter 2
Ye Xiyao was a succubus.
This was the secret he didn’t dare let anyone discover.
His body was different from ordinary people, so he couldn’t undergo physical exams. He feared that his natural instinct to absorb human energy and vitality might take over, so he avoided close contact with others.
For so many years, Ye Xiyao had concealed all traces of his true self, living quietly and keeping to himself. He rarely spoke and was hardly remembered by anyone. This was how he lived in peace.
Not only had others not noticed, but even he had nearly forgotten that he was a succubus.
He always believed that if he hid well enough, this secret could stay buried forever, known to no one.
But who could have predicted that tonight, he would encounter a demon.
Demons were low-level creatures. They had no physical bodies and could only roam in search of hosts to possess, devouring the host’s energy and soul to strengthen their own powers.
Once they possessed a human, they would mimic the person’s habits, and for a short time, those around them wouldn’t notice anything strange. But by the time they did notice, it was usually too late—the human soul had long since been consumed.
Just like the “man” standing in front of Ye Xiyao.
“He” was already an empty shell. His eyes were vacant, and dark energy seeped from his seven orifices.
At first, this demon hadn’t realized Ye Xiyao was a succubus. It had thought it was in luck, coming across a kid who liked to walk alone at night. Its old body was deteriorating and needed replacing, so it decided to possess Ye Xiyao.
But when it was repelled by the non-human power within Ye Xiyao, it suddenly realized that it had found a fellow creature.
It circled around Ye Xiyao and said, “How did you hide your scent so well, little one? I almost mistook you for a human…”
Mid-sentence, the demon paused, then grew even more excited.
“Wait, I can’t believe what I’m smelling… Why does your aura feel so… pure? Ha! Am I actually smelling purity from a succubus? This world is ridiculous! A virgin succubus!”
Ye Xiyao’s ears flushed red.
He wasn’t embarrassed; he was just displeased by the crude and vulgar words.
The demon suddenly leaned in, and Ye Xiyao instinctively stepped back, meeting its lifeless eyes.
He heard it say, “Why are you ignoring me? Is it because you look down on a demon like me, without a physical body? Do you think seducing me isn’t worth your time, so you’re hiding your scent? Don’t underestimate demons—I’ve devoured plenty of humans.”
Ye Xiyao still didn’t speak, lightly biting his lip.
This was his first time encountering a demon, and after hearing that it had devoured many humans, he grew wary. Though demons were low-level, they could increase their power by consuming souls. When they accumulated enough strength, they could take on physical form and become full-fledged demons.
Ye Xiyao weighed the demon’s strength, unsure if he could escape unscathed.
“Let me guess—are you trying to seduce me?” the demon speculated, noticing that Ye Xiyao hadn’t used any of the typical succubus tricks. It continued analyzing aloud.
“You’re probably pretending to be a virgin to pique my curiosity, playing hard to get. You’ll resist for a bit, but then, when I’m off guard, you’ll spread your legs and release that intoxicating scent, all while writhing on me and absorbing my energy…”
Ye Xiyao quickly interrupted, “I won’t.”
The demon, pleased to finally hear Ye Xiyao’s voice, didn’t believe him for a second. “Don’t be shy. It’s not like I said I wouldn’t fall for it. I’m actually pretty interested in you right now. So, when are you going to open your legs?”
Ye Xiyao, looking serious, refuted, “I said I won’t.”
“You can fool humans, but you really think you can fool me?” The demon was growing impatient. “I know exactly what your kind is like. Succubi are the lowest of all demons. If you’re really still a virgin, then I’m an angel!”
The demon was certain that succubi were born out of depravity—that it was cause and effect.
There were only two kinds of succubi.
One kind wasn’t powerful enough to defeat their own kind or hunt humans, so they constantly swayed their seductive bodies to lure targets. They didn’t need to kill or fight, relying instead on bodily fluids and lust to absorb power from other species.
The other kind might have once been strong, but they had fallen from grace due to acts of debauchery.
In fact, there was an old legend about this.
It was said that the most holy and pure archangel once committed adultery with a demon, became pregnant with its child, and was ultimately punished by the gods, falling from grace and becoming a succubus.
“But the archangel could not bear the degrading life after falling and eventually chose to end his own life.
This legend proves that even an archangel cannot escape the instincts of a succubus after falling.
So, the demon thought Yexiyao was putting on airs: “That’s enough, just release your scent already. I don’t like this smell that resembles a human’s; it makes demons lose interest. A succubus should be more… alluring—Ah!”
“Don’t say another word.”
Yexiyao couldn’t take it anymore and slapped him in frustration. To his surprise, what seemed like a light slap knocked the demon’s head clean off.
Yexiyao stared at the head rolling to his feet, startled: “?”
The demon was stunned too. Although the body was just a vessel for it and didn’t feel any pain, it was still its only usable body at the moment. It had intended to use it for a couple more days until it found a new target.
But now, the already hollowed-out skull was completely useless.
“You want to die!”
Enraged, all its power surged out of the broken shell. Its screeching, gravelly voice echoed with dark energy in all directions, “A mere succubus dares act superior to me? Once I devour one more human, I’ll manifest a physical body and become a true demon. At that time, succubi far more delicious than you will throw themselves at me for my pleasure! You really think you’re something special, you filthy creature!”
The demon was furious, but Yexiyao was equally displeased.
Its words were vile, and every sentence was laced with disgusting vulgarity.
Yexiyao had had enough.
So, facing the menacing dark energy coming his way, he didn’t dodge. Instead, his face took on a stubborn expression, signaling he was ready to confront the demon head-on: “I’ve had enough of you too.”
When Yexiyao said this, there was no accompanying malice, nor did he sound particularly threatening. His emotions were calm, and his tone steady, as if he was simply stating a fact—
He really had tolerated it for too long.
Seeing his reaction, the demon sneered, “You seem clueless about what it means for a demon to have just devoured a human soul. I guess I’ll have to teach you… So you won’t say I bullied you, I’ll give you a chance to beg for mercy.
Cherish it.”
Yexiyao, composed yet serious, replied, “But I won’t give you any chances.”
With a cold laugh, the demon summoned the black mist once more. The overwhelming, invasive dark energy surged toward Yexiyao, relentless.
It roared, “Then let me show you how powerful I am, as I become a true demon—”
Yexiyao hated its voice. Before it could finish, he reached out, grabbed the suffocating black mist, pulled, and tore it apart.
The demon, who had planned to teach Yexiyao a lesson…
It was obliterated, just like that.
The entire process took less than three seconds.
The air fell dead silent.
The demon’s final word slipped out weakly, “…Huh.”
After devouring so many human souls, it had gathered enough power to envelop an entire street and was on the verge of becoming a demon. But with one effortless move, Yexiyao completely shattered its power.
It was utterly absurd.
“Aren’t you a succubus? How are you this strong?!”
It didn’t even have time to be pained by being torn apart. Its entire attention was focused on Yexiyao’s unimaginable strength. “How could you neutralize my dark energy in an instant… Wait, since when are succubi this fierce?!”
Yexiyao blinked innocently, loosened his grip, and let the demon’s ‘remains’ fall to the ground. He then asked, “Could it be… you were just too weak?”
There wasn’t a trace of sarcasm in his voice.
It was clear he was sincerely asking.
It seemed even Yexiyao himself didn’t realize the vast gap in power between him and the demon. For him, defeating it was like squashing a chirping cicada.
The demon, caught between rage and shock, was left speechless.
At that moment, a strange alarm suddenly rang out from the distant silence.
Unlike the sound of a police siren, and unlike a fire truck either.
Ye Xiyao had never heard such a sound before and looked toward that direction in confusion.
In the next moment, the demon on the ground began to writhe and distort. Its mist-like form turned into black liquid, then into sludge, and finally back into mist.
It was clear that it was trying to ‘reassemble’ itself.
But it failed.
Unable to reclaim its power, it gave up entirely and mockingly said:
“Well, great! The demonic energy you released just triggered the Bureau of Security’s alarm. Looks like you’re about to get caught by those exorcists, just like I did… Oh, wait, you’re good at hiding your aura, aren’t you? Does that mean they won’t be able to find you? No way, I have to help you with that—”
Before the words even finished, Ye Xiyao saw it use the last bit of its remaining power to fly toward the source of the alarm.
Clearly, it intended to expose Ye Xiyao’s location on purpose.
Without a physical body, the demon had to find a new host before its power ran out. Originally, after devouring so many souls, it had been quite powerful. But Ye Xiyao had effortlessly destroyed all its efforts just now, and it would take another hundred years to regain that much power again.
And now, with police patrolling everywhere, how could it find a new host so easily?
So, even though it knew it couldn’t beat Ye Xiyao, it didn’t plan to run away.
It wanted revenge on Ye Xiyao.
Even if it cost it everything.
It darted away like the wind, and Ye Xiyao instinctively chased after it.
In truth, Ye Xiyao didn’t even know what the Bureau of Security was.
He only heard the mention of exorcists, and panic set in: “You’re not allowed to go!”
“Scared now? Weren’t you so tough when you tore me apart just now? Hahaha—” The laughter suddenly stopped.
After chasing for a while, Ye Xiyao finally managed to grab hold of a wisp of it.
“What are you doing?”
Realizing what Ye Xiyao was about to do, the demon screeched in terror: “You want to annihilate me?!”
Yes, Ye Xiyao was trying to obliterate it.
For one demon to destroy another was no easy task. High-level demons usually consumed lower-level ones to avoid wasting their own power.
It hoped Ye Xiyao was acting out of ignorance: “It’s impossible. To obliterate me, you’d have to expend an equal amount of demonic energy. How could a succubus like you have that much—”
But as it spoke, its voice grew weaker.
Because it could feel it.
It was truly dying.
Its power was being dissolved by Ye Xiyao.
“Stop! Stop it! I won’t go to the Bureau! I’ll leave, I’ll disappear, okay?! Just don’t—!”
But it was already too late. Once power is released, the outcome is inevitable. It was only a matter of time.
“What are you… You can’t be just a succubus… No…” Perhaps realizing its end was near, the demon stopped struggling. But it still couldn’t believe it—a succubus possessing such strength.
In its final moment before vanishing, the demon seemed to have a flash of clarity. With its last bit of energy, it uttered something completely unrelated:
“I suddenly remembered… After the archangel committed adultery with the demon and was punished by the gods, falling and becoming a succubus, they chose to self-destruct… But what about the child born from the angel and the demon? Where did that child go?”
Ye Xiyao froze: “…”
The demon caught this moment of hesitation and let out a sharp laugh: “I should’ve guessed. No ordinary succubus could kill me. They wouldn’t even have the ability to hide their aura… And yes, that explains why—despite being a succubus—you still have the purity of a virgin, and though you’ve never absorbed anyone’s power, you’re still this strong. That’s because—”
“Stop talking,” Ye Xiyao pressed down harder on it, trying to silence it.
But even though he was unleashing so much power, he couldn’t stop the demon from finishing its final sentence:
“Because you’re the child born of an angel and a demon. You’ve inherited both their powers, but also the divine punishment meant for them…”
At that moment, the noise abruptly stopped.
The noisy demon dissipated into nothingness in an instant.
Everything returned to the quiet of the night.
A moment later, Yexiyao collapsed to the ground as if drained of strength. He closed his eyes and took three deep breaths, slowly reining in the power he had just unleashed.
Then, he stared blankly at his palms.
In the distance, the alarm continued to blare relentlessly. The patrol police would soon arrive to investigate.
Yexiyao suddenly realized that his once peaceful life seemed to have spiraled out of control at that very moment.
He had killed a demon.
It shouldn’t count as murder since demons have no physical form. At most, it was like swatting away a patch of dirty fog, helping to purify the city’s air.
But he had used his power.
Everyone knows Pandora’s box should never be opened lightly, because you never know what it will bring.
Yexiyao felt a vague sense of unease but reassured himself. It would be fine as long as he repressed his demonic energy and continued to hide. No one would notice him.
Not daring to linger for long to avoid the patrol officers, Yexiyao forced himself up, pushed all thoughts of ‘demons’ and ‘angels’ out of his mind, and ran toward home.
The streetlights behind him flickered in and out, casting erratic glows.
Ten minutes after Yexiyao left, a pair of black combat boots stepped through the scattered debris, slowly arriving at the spot where Yexiyao had just stood.
The hard soles crushed the surrounding weeds.
The person was over 1.9 meters tall, imposing and formidable. He crouched down, removed the black gloves from his hands, and a strange, glaring red light flickered faintly in his palm, emanating an aura of death.
He placed his hand on the ground, sensing the direction in which the power had dissipated.
After a moment, he dusted off his hands, put the gloves back on, and walked in the direction Yexiyao had fled.
—
2:30 a.m.
Alliance Bureau of Supernatural Forces Safety.
“Danger alert! Danger alert!”
“The safety patrol has detected a high-level demonic energy reading, with a danger level exceeding the limit!”
“Orders from higher-ups: immediately dispatch additional personnel for tracking! All exorcist special police officers holding a primary exorcism certification or higher, gear up and report to the action hall for standby!”
The safety bureau was in a frenzy. All the on-duty special officers rushed about.
However, upon closer inspection, it was apparent that there was order in the chaos. Within minutes of the initial confusion, a line of more than ten special officers holding primary exorcism certifications had assembled, ready for action.
Yet, they waited for ten minutes without further instruction.
The initial sense of urgency turned into confusion.
The once orderly crowd began to grow restless.
Yu Liefeng rushed to the front, saluted Action Squad Leader Alabai, and asked, “Is this a drill? Why wasn’t I informed?”
Alabai was wearing a small communication device in his ear and appeared to be on a call. He waved at Yu Liefeng and mouthed, “It’s not a drill.”
Yu Liefeng stood by, waiting for a moment, but Alabai remained on the call.
Growing curious, Yu Liefeng asked, “If it’s not a drill, why haven’t we moved out? How long is the strategy meeting going to take?”
At that moment, Alabai finally spoke into the communicator, “Understood.” Then he ended the call. He turned to Yu Liefeng and explained, “The alarm from the detection device alone is not enough to pinpoint the source of the demonic energy.”
Yu Liefeng was shocked. “How can that be? If the alarm was triggered, it means the source must be within detection range unless…”
Alabai finished his sentence for him, “Unless it’s so powerful that it can release such overwhelming demonic energy from a distance. This means it’s no low-level demon, but a very formidable one.”
“In that case, we should speed up the search! If such a powerful demon is left unchecked, it could cause even greater harm.”
Yu Liefeng seemed anxious, but he noticed that Alabai remained calm, so he asked, “Why are we still wasting time here? Give me a reason for not moving out.”
Alabai didn’t waste words, offering only four:
“Xing Xu is on it.'”
I wonder how old is mc, how is he dirt poor, and how did he survive till now.
