Sea Rescue

Chapter 92 – Sea Rescue

The Special Security Division’s Team Seven had recently finished recruiting new members. Si Xu brought a few people along with Lin Jiu, and they flew by helicopter to catch up with the suspects.

Six members from Team Seven were with them—Lin Han, Zhao Cheng, Chang Beimu, and Qiao Anya, whom Lin Jiu had met before, along with two new faces. These were new recruits to Team One of Team Seven.

Du Qingyuan and Ning Yue had made it through several rigorous tests to join Team Seven, so their skills were likely exceptional.

The helicopter followed the coordinates provided by the Coast Guard. When they reached the sea, the coast guard ship was already in a standoff with another vessel.

On the deck of that vessel stood several people with Western features. A chair was positioned there, with Liao Tingwang tied to it. His forehead and face were covered in blood, and there were large bloodstains on his clothes. His eyes were dull, and it was unclear if he was conscious.

A brown-haired young man standing behind Liao Tingwang smiled up at the helicopter. He lifted his hand slightly, and suddenly, someone behind him aimed a weapon and fired at the helicopter.

No one expected the brown-haired youth to be so reckless, opening fire immediately without any intention of negotiating.

The shoulder-mounted weapon looked strange, and what it fired wasn’t a missile but an energy beam!

The helicopter’s door opened, and the team members leapt out.

While still in midair, Si Xu pushed the helicopter to one side, causing the energy beam to miss.

“Lin Han!” Si Xu shouted.

As Lin Han descended, he precisely threw a white light shield, which securely enveloped Liao Tingwang.

The helicopter, narrowly avoiding disaster, adjusted its position and returned fire at the ship. Seeing this, the coast guard, already locked in a standoff, followed suit, apparently unconcerned about accidentally harming the hostage.

On the brown-haired youth’s side, more of those strange weapons appeared, aiming at both the helicopter and the coast guard ship.

The fight had broken out. The enhanced individuals who had jumped from the helicopter were now targets, and energy beams shot toward them. They seemed like leaves caught in the wind, pushed toward the Coast Guard ship by an invisible force, with energy beams continually striking it.

However, the attacks from the helicopter and the Coast Guard were being blocked.

A person stood at the bow of the enemy vessel, raising an energy shield that deflected all incoming attacks.

Lin Jiu rushed to the ship’s edge just in time to see Si Xu land on the water. Energy beams immediately followed him, but Si Xu pushed off from the water, racing toward the brown-haired youth’s ship with incredible speed.

The coast guard watching this scene was stunned. They couldn’t comprehend how someone could run on water—this defied all logic.

Meanwhile, the barrage of energy beams was now aimed at the coast guard ship. The sheer intensity of the attack left gaping holes in the ship, and at this rate, the ship was certain to sink.

Lin Jiu took out a harpoon, slashed it across the water, and with a forceful motion, raised it. A towering wall of water immediately formed in front of the coast guard ship.

Within the water wall surged Lin Jiu’s immense magic power, allowing him to singlehandedly block the oncoming energy beams.

Everyone on the Coast Guard ship was astounded. They had heard stories of how powerful enhanced humans could be, but now, seeing it firsthand, they realized these people were beyond human—this power was something else entirely!

As the water wall came crashing down, everyone saw that Si Xu had already reached the enemy vessel.

A long knife appeared in his right hand. The blade’s length seemed normal, but when Si Xu slashed toward the ship, it was as if an invisible force sliced the entire vessel in half. Everyone aboard fell into the sea.

Si Xu reached out through the air, and Liao Tingwang, still tied to the chair, flew up and was tossed toward the Coast Guard ship.

Without turning back, Si Xu pressed both hands onto the surface of the water, sensing the people who had fallen into the sea but hadn’t surfaced. He was surprised to find that they were swimming deeper into the ocean.

Suddenly, Si Xu sensed a giant creature moving toward the Coast Guard ship.

His expression changed. “Watch out under the ship…”

Before he could finish, the entire Coast Guard ship was lifted into the air as a massive black dorsal fin emerged from the water!

The ship was thrown from the surface, its hull almost torn apart. With a deafening crash, it tilted and slammed back into the sea, slowly starting to sink.

Si Xu immediately charged toward the coast guard ship.

The giant sea monster was still circling the vessel. With so many people in the water, if the monster wasn’t driven away, the crew of the Coast Guard ship would either drown or be eaten.

Si Xu already knew that every time Lin Jiu transformed into a siren, he had to endure immense pain. Unless absolutely necessary, Lin Jiu avoided touching seawater. But in this situation, there was no way to prevent it—everyone was in the water.

Lin Jiu fell into the sea with a painful wail, and his siren form emerged instantly!

He shed his clothes and, holding his trident, charged toward the massive sea monster.

A crew member struggling in the water, trying to stay afloat, suddenly saw an enormous, terrifying fish rushing at him with its mouth wide open.

The crewman fought desperately to evade, but he remained trapped in place as the gaping maw closed in. Just as he thought he was doomed, he felt himself being swept away at high speed.

The force was so intense that he couldn’t hold his breath, and bubbles poured out of his mouth. On the verge of drowning, he was about to be lifted out of the water when suddenly a large bubble appeared around him, gradually expanding until it enclosed him completely.

Inside the bubble, the crewman gasped for air.

Lin Jiu stared at the bubble, surprised, and as he looked around, he noticed many more similar bubbles.

The bubbles were filled with air, each containing one or several people, slowly rising to the surface.

Lin Jiu scanned the area and spotted the person creating the bubbles—a handsome young man named Ning Yue, a newcomer to Team Seven.

Ning Yue had a bubble around himself and was busy creating more, though his face had gone pale from the effort.

Lin Jiu swam over, and Ning Yue’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of him. Clearly terrified, he hesitated, unsure if he should encase Lin Jiu in a bubble as well.

Lin Jiu tapped on the bubble’s surface with his webbed hand and handed Ning Yue a metal flask.

Stiffly, Ning Yue grabbed the flask, pulling it into the bubble, looking as if his soul had left his body.

Lin Jiu mimed a drinking gesture and then swam off.

Meanwhile, Ning Yue’s mind raced: ‘I saw Lin Deputy’s true form. Am I going to get silenced by the captain now?’

Lin Jiu had already resigned himself to the situation. Glancing at the surrounding bubbles, where everyone stared wide-eyed at him, he realized it was impossible to keep his form a secret any longer.

With a sweep of his harpoon, he used a water current to lift everyone who hadn’t been encased in bubbles to the surface.

Lin Jiu then located Liao Tingwang, who was still far away, without a bubble. Tied to a chair, Liao Tingwang was helpless. Lin Jiu used a water current to send him to the surface, where he gasped for breath just as he saw a massive dorsal fin slicing through the water toward him.

Lin Jiu appeared behind Liao Tingwang, slashing the ropes with his trident and quickly retreating before Liao Tingwang could see his true form. He used the water to propel Liao Tingwang toward Ning Yue, who then encased him in a bubble.

All the while, Lin Jiu stayed hidden from Liao Tingwang, using water currents to guide the bubble to Ning Yue’s side and asking him to watch over Liao Tingwang. Then, he turned and charged toward the massive sea monster.

Lin Jiu let out a sharp cry, momentarily freezing the creature. He whipped his tail and darted forward, plunging the trident into the monster’s eye.

Without pause, Lin Jiu yanked out the trident and fled.

The sea monster thrashed in agony, churning the water violently as it pursued Lin Jiu.

Despite its enormous size, the sea monster was frighteningly fast, forcing Lin Jiu to push himself to his limits. He knew he couldn’t keep swimming at full speed forever—just like running a marathon, his body would eventually give out.

Still, Lin Jiu stuck to his plan: lure the sea monster away from the area so that the people in the water had a chance to be rescued.

After swimming a great distance, Lin Jiu spotted a beautiful coral reef and quickly ducked into it.

The giant sea monster surged past, still charging ahead.

Lin Jiu waited for a while before quietly backtracking, trying to return the way he came. But just as he turned around, a huge net descended on him!

Lin Jiu raised his trident, attempting to tear the net, but it quickly tightened, leaving him with no room to move. He was trapped.

Layer upon layer of netting wrapped around him, binding him so tightly he couldn’t budge.

Lin Jiu muttered, “Damn it. Am I really going to get caught like this?”

Peering through the tangled nets, Lin Jiu caught sight of strange creatures outside—humanoid figures with scales and bone spurs, some with snake tails, others with tentacles or bizarre, fish-like appendages. They looked both terrifying and menacing.

Panicked, Lin Jiu called out to the system, “What the hell are these things?!”

[The Haijia Tribe. They all possess Haijia tribe genes, but their forms are not the complete form of the Haijia. They must have used some method to stimulate gene mutation, creating this illusion of being similar to the Haijia tribe.]

Lin Jiu was furious: ‘With these freaks around, why didn’t you warn me earlier?!’

[How would I know there were these hybrids?!]

Lin Jiu roared in his mind: ‘I got captured!’

[Calm down, calm down! Your man is on his way! You rushed ahead too fast, and he couldn’t keep up!]

Lin Jiu: ‘If I didn’t rush, I would’ve been eaten by that giant sea monster!’

Now that he knew Si Xu was on his way, Lin Jiu suddenly felt less anxious.

They were connected through the system. As long as they remained in the same dimension, no matter how far apart, they could always locate each other through it.

Lin Jiu was dragged along by the hybrids. He adjusted his position in the water, and with a sharp screech, sent the hybrids flying with the sound waves.

He struggled to break free from the net, but it was tied too tight. He stowed away his trident and used his sharp fins to tear at the net. But with each layer he ripped through, there were more. He had to keep ripping.

Lin Jiu thrashed around on the seabed, stirring up mud and sand.

He sensed something approaching him and tried to flip over, but the net was too heavy. After much effort, he managed to flip, only to see a trident coming down, pinning his tail to the rocky seabed.

Lin Jiu let out a cry of pain. He was trapped.

A mutant Haijia with blue scales, long dorsal fins running down its back and head, and a thick, powerful tail held a massive syringe. It pressed Lin Jiu down, aiming the syringe at his spine.

Suddenly, a massive force sent the mutant Haijia flying, and the trident was pulled out. Lin Jiu writhed in agony on the seafloor.

Si Xu arrived, using his magic blade to cut through the layers of netting, finally pulling Lin Jiu free.

Lin Jiu’s tail had three gaping wounds, and blood quickly dyed the surrounding water red. The bleeding was too fast.

Si Xu quickly carried Lin Jiu to the surface. The mutant Haijia pursued with its trident, but Si Xu sent a wave of force through the water, striking the mutant. The creature raised a water shield with its trident, blocking the attack.

Using the shield’s momentum, Si Xu and Lin Jiu broke through the surface.

When they landed again, both stood steady on the water.

Si Xu pressed on Lin Jiu’s bleeding tail, ‘Do you have any potions?’

Lin Jiu, struggling to sit up, replied, ‘…Yes.’

He took out three powerful healing potions, drank one, and his tail wounds immediately began to close. His blood loss stopped, and he quickly regained his strength.

Though healed, the pain from the nerve memory of the wounds lingered, leaving Lin Jiu furious.

‘Put me down. I’m going to finish them!’

Before they could move, the mutant Haijia came back, causing the surrounding seawater to swirl into a vortex, trapping them inside.

A trident appeared in Lin Jiu’s hand, and he launched himself like a bullet towards the mutant Haijia.

The mutant raised its trident to fight back. With years of spearfishing experience, Lin Jiu didn’t lose ground. The sounds of the weapons clashing echoed loudly. The fight between Lin Jiu’s fish tail and the mutant’s thick snake-like tail sent shockwaves that shattered nearby rocks.

The mutant Haijia was much larger than Lin Jiu, with overwhelming strength, but Lin Jiu’s agility gave him the edge.

Suddenly, the mutant was sent flying, and Lin Jiu pursued, driving his trident deep into the creature’s body!

The sensation of piercing flesh made Lin Jiu freeze.

He realized that this hybrid wasn’t just a sea monster or mutant seafood—it was once a person.

He may have just killed someone.

The mutant Haijia grabbed Lin Jiu’s trident with its blue-scaled arms, seemingly unfazed by the pain. It grinned wickedly and muttered something under its breath.

Lin Jiu’s pupils trembled.

Before he could react, the mutant was blown away, crashing into the seafloor, kicking up a cloud of sand.

When Si Xu tried to pin it down again, the mutant had already vanished.

Snapping back to his senses, Lin Jiu quickly scanned the water for the mutant, but it was nowhere to be found.

They didn’t pursue blindly. Instead, they turned back to ensure their comrades’ safety.

From a distance, Lin Jiu could smell the thick scent of blood. Grabbing Si Xu, they rushed back just in time to see over a dozen mutants attacking the survivors.

The remaining squad members were fighting desperately against the mutants. The scene was utter chaos.

Some of the mutants flailed around in the water, lost in a hallucination created by the rookie, Du Qingyuan. If they were on land, Du Qingyuan could control his illusions well enough to decide whether to capture or kill.

Others attempted to strike, but the water around them suddenly grew heavy, crushing them down to the seabed. This was Zhao Cheng’s power—he could manipulate gravity.

Chang Beimu and Qiao Anya were clad in glowing white armor, sneaking up on the disoriented mutants, attacking them while they were trapped in the illusions.

Lin Jiu and Si Xu attacked in unison. The remaining mutants unleashed their full strength, stirring up the ocean in a desperate attempt to escape. Huge waves pushed everyone far away, and the mutants fled in the chaos.

Lin Jiu and Si Xu didn’t give chase—they had many wounded to tend to.

Si Xu signaled the helicopter above to pursue.

The helicopter had been hovering overhead, unable to shoot for fear of hitting their own people. Now, with the mutants retreating, it could finally fire without hesitation.”

Several rescue helicopters were already in the air, and many people had been lifted to safety. However, there were still some people left in the water.

Lin Jiu stayed at a distance, on guard, worried that another giant sea monster might appear.

It wasn’t until everyone was rescued onto the helicopters that Lin Jiu pulled Si Xu out of the water.

Lin Jiu: “Take me to the surface. I’ll use the portal.”

Si Xu nodded and used his power to lift Lin Jiu out of the water. Lin Jiu vanished instantly.

Lin Jiu’s siren form couldn’t follow them back, so the best option was to use the portal to head to Xipluo Island to revert to human form. Then, he could return home quickly and safely to wait for Si Xu. This way was both faster and safer.

Si Xu, on the other hand, needed to stay behind to oversee things and couldn’t follow him through the portal.

Moreover, Lin Jiu wanted to quietly think about something.

The mutated Haijia with blue scales had said: “Your mother isn’t dead. She’s in our hands.”

Lin Jiu wasn’t sure how credible this information was, but he couldn’t deny that it affected him.

Considering the ruthless methods typical of the Haijia clan, if Vera were really in their hands, they would have used her to threaten him right away instead of going through the trouble of manipulating the Liao family to achieve their goal.

Another issue was whether Vera could have survived. With her siren bloodline being so pure, she was on the verge of awakening but lacked the magic essence to sustain her. In such a situation, could she really still be alive?

Lin Jiu wanted to believe it, as he desperately hoped his mother was still alive. But he also felt it was impossible and suspected that the Haijia clan was deliberately baiting him.

Unable to figure it out, Lin Jiu decided to wait for Si Xu to return so they could discuss it together.

Lin Jiu returned to his room, tidied up, and waited for Si Xu to bring everyone back to City A.

Many of the police officers who went out to sea today were ordinary people. They had risked chasing out into the ocean, and their radiation levels were likely severely elevated. They needed to be treated immediately.

Thankfully, Liao Tingwang was brought back alive.
