Lin Jiu was starting to panic. There was no way Si Xu could see him like this.
Lin Jiu urgently called out to the system: “Is there any medicine that can make me instantly recover?”
[High-Efficiency Healing Potion, 200 magic points per vial.]
Lin Jiu: …
Too expensive.
Lin Jiu: “Anything cheaper?”
[Advanced Healing Potion, 100 magic points per vial.]
Lin Jiu: …
He only had about a hundred points left and couldn’t bring himself to spend so much on a single potion.
Lin Jiu, struggling: “Even cheaper?”
[Intermediate Healing Potion, 50 points; Basic Healing Potion, 20 points; or you can choose a Blood-Stopping Agent, which is cheaper. A regular one costs just 10 points and stops bleeding completely in ten minutes.]
The system, already familiar with its host’s frugality, offered an alternative solution.
Lin Jiu weighed the options carefully. After much thought, he realized the healing potion was more cost-effective. It not only healed the wounds but also stopped the bleeding along the way. Even if it didn’t completely stop, it wouldn’t be excessive. The blood-stopping agent, on the other hand, only stopped the bleeding without healing the wound itself. Once the bleeding was controlled, the injury would still remain.
Different levels of healing potions all had restorative effects, with the only difference being the recovery time. The basic healing potion took 24 hours for full recovery, while the intermediate one only required 6 hours but was 30 points more expensive.
After careful consideration, Lin Jiu finally decided on one regular blood-stopping agent and one basic healing potion. Stopping the bleeding first was enough; he could wait for the wounds to heal over time. He had 24 hours, after all.
Fortunately, the potions were ingested and not injected, as Lin Jiu had no idea how he’d manage an injection.
Ten minutes later, the bleeding stopped, and the delivery driver still hadn’t arrived.
Si Xu had said he’d be there soon, and he wasn’t kidding. Lin Jiu was still grimacing in pain while trying to clean up the scene, making it look less gruesome. But before he could finish, the doorbell rang.
Lin Jiu: …
He hurriedly threw the bloodstained towel into the bathroom and slammed the door shut, hiding the evidence.
Lin Jiu dragged himself over to check the peephole. It wasn’t the delivery guy—it was Si Xu.
Lin Jiu steadied his breathing and opened the door.
Si Xu had come without his coat, just wearing a suit. He hadn’t even bothered with a mask and was standing in Lin Jiu’s doorway, fully exposed to the world. Notably, there was another person outside—an older security guard who had helped bring Si Xu up.
After thanking the guard, Si Xu finally entered.
He carried the cold of the outdoors with him, his eyes fixed intensely on Lin Jiu.
Lin Jiu had already changed out of his bathrobe into his soft, fluffy winter pajamas. They were white and fuzzy, making him look soft and innocent.
He let Si Xu in and leaned against the wall.
“I’m really fine,” Lin Jiu said.
Si Xu’s gaze didn’t waver. “Look at your face in the mirror and then say that.”
Lin Jiu instinctively touched his face. He hadn’t looked in the mirror, so he had no idea what he looked like.
Si Xu didn’t dare touch him, “Where are you hurt? Is it serious?”
Lin Jiu tried to play it off, “It’s nothing, just a little scratch.”
Si Xu wasn’t the same person as before—his senses had become incredibly sharp. As soon as he entered, he caught the scent of blood, with Lin Jiu being the source.
Si Xu stared at him for a long moment before asking, “Where’s your coat? I’m taking you to the hospital.”
“No need for the hospital…” Lin Jiu immediately realized how desperate and resistant he sounded. He quickly softened his tone. “Really, it’s just a small injury. No need for the hospital.”
He wasn’t human anymore. If he went to a hospital, he’d be taken in as a lab subject.
Right on cue, the doorbell rang.
Lin Jiu: …
No need to guess—it was definitely the delivery guy.
Si Xu gave him a look that made it clear he should open the door, so Lin Jiu had no choice but to bite the bullet and open it. He took the bag from the delivery guy, thanked him, and watched as the guard once again kindly waited by the elevator.
Lin Jiu thanked the guard profusely for running back and forth like this.
Before Lin Jiu could even turn around, he knew he was caught. The bag had the pharmacy’s name emblazoned on it, clear as day!
Si Xu took the bag from Lin Jiu’s hands, pulled him inside, and shut the door.
“If you’re not going to the hospital, then you’re at least going to take proper medicine.”
Opening the bag, Si Xu was a bit taken aback. There were so many bandages, bottles of disinfectant, and blood-stopping medicines. How was one person supposed to use all of that?
Si Xu’s jaw tightened. “Go to your room. I’ll help you dress the wounds.”
The room was open, and the warmth from the heater spilled into the cold living room. Si Xu was worried that Lin Jiu, still injured, might catch a chill.
With Si Xu’s eyes on him, Lin Jiu had no choice but to limp toward the room, trying not to show how bad it was. But his body betrayed him—his injured leg instinctively avoided putting on weight. After just one step, Si Xu noticed.
“Your leg is hurt?”
Lin Jiu: …
Reluctantly, Lin Jiu nodded.
His entire body was injured, but the worst parts were his lower back and leg.
Si Xu: “Can you walk?”
Lin Jiu was about to say yes when Si Xu bent down, carefully cradling his legs and back, lifting him up and quickly carrying him to the bedroom.
Lin Jiu was so stunned by the sudden bridal carry that when he saw Si Xu about to put him on the bed, he reflexively said, “Don’t put me on the bed—it’ll get dirty!”
Si Xu stopped in his tracks.
Lin Jiu: …
Lin Jiu gritted his teeth. “Just… put me on the carpet.”
Si Xu: …
Placing him gently on the black carpet, Si Xu pressed a hand to the floor, only to find it stained red with blood.
Si Xu: …
Lin Jiu: …
He thought to hide the bathrobe but forgot about the carpet?!
Si Xu was about to lift him up again when Lin Jiu quickly grabbed onto the bedside table, refusing to let go. “I’m not going to the hospital! It’s just a surface wound, I’ll be fine soon. No hospital!”
Si Xu held back his frustration and coaxed him patiently, “You’ve lost a lot of blood. It’s dangerous if this keeps up.”
“It’s not bleeding anymore. I’m fine now!”
There was no way he was going to the hospital! Not even for his crush!
Every fiber of Lin Jiu’s being screamed defiance. Whoever tried to take him to the hospital would have a fight on their hands. Si Xu sighed, looking at the blood in his palm, then at the floor that had clearly been wiped down. What else could he do but agree?
“Alright, no hospital. But don’t move around too much, or you’ll make the wound worse.” Si Xu picked up the bag and headed to the bathroom.
Lin Jiu immediately called out, “What are you doing?”
Si Xu: “Washing my hands, disinfecting, and then treating your wound.”
Lin Jiu opened his mouth to speak, but seeing Si Xu about to open the bathroom door, he panicked, “The…the bathroom’s broken! Wash your hands in the kitchen!”
Si Xu: …
Si Xu looked at Lin Jiu, who was clearly nervous. “Really, it’s broken.”
Si Xu understood. The bathroom must still be a mess from earlier. Reluctantly, he turned around and went to wash his hands in the kitchen.
Lin Jiu let out a huge sigh of relief. Si Xu quickly returned and closed the bedroom door behind him to keep the heat in.
Setting down the bag, Si Xu knelt in front of Lin Jiu. Without a word from Lin Jiu, he already knew which leg was injured.
Si Xu gently grabbed Lin Jiu’s ankle, lifting the injured leg. The skin beneath his palm was smooth and cool to the touch, as Lin Jiu’s body temperature was slightly lower. The warmth of Si Xu’s hand felt like a burn, and Lin Jiu instinctively tried to pull his leg back, but Si Xu held it firmly in place.
“Don’t move. We’re not going to the hospital, but we still need to dress the wound. You can’t just leave it untreated.”
Lin Jiu: …
Actually, it would heal by tomorrow.
Lin Jiu didn’t dare move again, watching as Si Xu carefully rolled up his fuzzy pajama pants, revealing his pale calf, which was covered in large purple bruises. It looked frightening.
Si Xu frowned, “How did you hurt your leg like this?”
Lin Jiu wanted to hide his leg. It looked terrible, almost swollen like an elephant’s leg. “I…I just bumped it.”
Si Xu’s expression was unreadable. He didn’t ask further, knowing it wasn’t as simple as a bump. The real injury wasn’t even on the calf. Though it was swollen and bruised, there were no open wounds. Lin Jiu must have lost a lot of blood, judging by the lingering scent of it in the room, especially in the bathroom.
As Si Xu rolled the pants higher, a gruesome wound became visible, part of it stuck to the fabric of the fuzzy pants. When the pants moved, the fibers tugged at the wound, making Lin Jiu hiss in pain.
Si Xu stopped moving, his face dark and stormy. He couldn’t imagine what Lin Jiu had been thinking to put fuzzy pants directly over a wound like that. Did he not realize the fibers would stick to the injury?
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come.”
Lin Jiu’s actions could only mean he was trying to hide his injury, not wanting Si Xu to know. In doing so, he had only made the situation worse.
Lin Jiu: ???
Lin Jiu was confused. Why was he apologizing all of a sudden?
Si Xu lowered his gaze, “Next time, don’t do this. If you don’t want me to see something, or if you don’t want me to know or come over, just tell me. Don’t hurt yourself like this.”
Lin Jiu looked at his wound and then at his fuzzy pants, finally understanding the reason behind Si Xu’s apology. He quickly explained, “It’s not what you think! I just couldn’t find any bandages. The band-aids were too small, so I…I just wore them like this.”
His bathrobe had already been soaked with blood. It wasn’t like he could greet Si Xu naked, right?
Si Xu looked up at him, “Did you not think that the fuzzy material would stick to your wound?”
Lin Jiu: …
Lin Jiu: “I…I didn’t think about that at the time.”
All he had been thinking about was cleaning up the scene. He couldn’t let Si Xu see the place covered in blood. If his crush saw such a crime scene the first time visiting his home, it might leave a lifelong trauma.
Si Xu, seeing that Lin Jiu wasn’t lying, recalled how he often forgot his phone or let it run out of battery. Lin Jiu was just a bit absent-minded. Maybe he hadn’t done it on purpose, but he had definitely tried to hide his injury.
“Why hide the injury? What are you afraid of?” Si Xu asked, still unable to understand.
Lin Jiu thought about it. Si Xu had been so straightforward about being enhanced; maybe Lin Jiu should trust him more, too.
“I was afraid of scaring you…”
Si Xu took a deep breath, wanting to ask if Lin Jiu had misunderstood him. Did he really look like the type to be scared by a little injury?
After another deep breath, Si Xu decided to focus on treating the wound. “We can’t just roll your pants up like this. You’ll need to take them off.”
Lin Jiu froze, “T-take them off?”
Taking off his pants in front of his crush? No way!
Si Xu frowned, “Or I’ll have to cut them. If you take them off, it’ll pull on the wound. Do you have scissors?”
Lin Jiu: …
Lin Jiu: “Can you fix my pants after cutting them?”
“Probably not, but I can buy you a new pair of pajamas.” Si Xu smirked slightly, then got up to find scissors.
There weren’t any fabric scissors, but he found some kitchen shears. After thoroughly washing them, Si Xu returned and started cutting the pajama pants.
Si Xu carefully cut all the way up to the thigh.
Lin Jiu, blushing, said, “That’s…that’s enough.”
Si Xu’s brows furrowed as he carefully lifted the pants, revealing the full extent of the injury. “How did this even happen?”
Lin Jiu winced and grabbed Si Xu’s hand, “Brother, do you know the saying ‘death by a dull knife is the most painful’? Could you just get it over with?”
Si Xu was caught off guard by Lin Jiu calling him “bro” in such an intimate tone, making his entire body tingle. Suddenly, he was grabbed, and without thinking, he ripped the fuzzy material from the wound.
Si Xu: !!!
Si Xu: “You…”
The wound that had stopped bleeding started to bleed again after being tugged.
Si Xu’s heart tightened. This guy wasn’t soft at all; he had a fierce streak, dangerously so.
Lin Jiu took a breath and said, “Long-term pain is worse than short-term pain. As long as you’re fast enough, the pain won’t catch up to me. Go ahead, pour the disinfectant directly.”
Si Xu: “…”
Si Xu: “Don’t be reckless. You will die from the pain.”
Lin Jiu suggested, “Or we could skip the disinfection and just bandage it.”
Si Xu’s face darkened. “You’ve pulled off your fuzzy pants, but the lint stubbornly stayed behind.”
Lin Jiu: “…”
Crap! I’m done for.
Lin Jiu lay down, pretending that leg didn’t exist, and let Si Xu do as he pleased.
By the time Si Xu had used tweezers to carefully remove all the lint from the wound, disinfected it, and wrapped it with a bandage, he was drenched in sweat.
Lin Jiu, with his high tolerance, stayed silent throughout the process. The more he endured without a sound, the more Si Xu’s heart ached.
Lin Jiu’s entire thigh was now wrapped in bandages. Fortunately, Lin Jiu had bought enough; otherwise, there wouldn’t have been enough to cover it all.
“Are there any other injuries?”
This time, Lin Jiu didn’t hide anything. His leg wound had already been exposed, so there was no point in hiding the rest. He struggled to sit up, and Si Xu reached out to support him. Lin Jiu kept his injured leg still and lay down on the bed. “There’s one on my back, too.”
His white fuzzy pajamas were stained with blood on the back and rear, probably from the blood on the carpet.
Si Xu didn’t say anything and gently lifted his pajama top.
Lin Jiu said, “It’s fine, you don’t have to be so careful. These pajamas are loose enough that they hardly touch me.”
But Si Xu wasn’t as careless as him. He carefully lifted the pajamas, which fortunately hadn’t stuck to the wound.
Si Xu had managed to hold it together when he saw the bloody wound on Lin Jiu’s thigh, but when he saw his back, he couldn’t take it anymore. His entire back was covered in wounds, and not a single patch of skin was left untouched. Some of the flesh had been scraped raw, and there was a deep gash along his spine, almost down to the bone.
The injuries were so severe, yet they had stopped bleeding, leaving only the horrifying wounds.
Si Xu tried to keep his tone gentle. “This won’t do. The wound is too large, and some areas are too deep. You’ll need a tetanus shot.”
Lin Jiu murmured, “It’s fine, I’ve already taken some medicine.”
“Lin Jiu, these wounds are too serious to handle like this. If you don’t trust the hospital, I can take you to the Special Abilities Security Department. They have doctors, and whatever they find, they won’t leak it.”
Lin Jiu turned to look at him and saw that Si Xu was very serious, as if he might forcibly take him to the doctor.
Lin Jiu saw his clenched fists, and without thinking, he reached out and touched them. Si Xu flinched like he’d been shocked, releasing his fists and grabbing Lin Jiu’s icy-cold fingers.
“Trust me, I really have taken the medicine. By this time tomorrow, I’ll be fully healed. I don’t need a doctor, a tetanus shot, or even disinfectant. Just wrap the bandages, and I’ll be fine.”
Si Xu thought that if he believed Lin Jiu, he’d be crazy. These injuries wouldn’t heal in less than ten days or half a month. Even if they did heal, they would leave permanent scars.
Seeing that Si Xu wasn’t responding, Lin Jiu continued, “Look, these injuries are severe, but they’re not bleeding anymore. That’s because of the medicine. Once I sleep, the wounds won’t look this bad tomorrow.”
Si Xu still didn’t say a word.
Lin Jiu sighed. “If you’re really worried, you can stay here and watch over me. If anything goes wrong, you can drag me to the hospital, and I won’t resist. How about that?”
“Okay,” Si Xu finally agreed.
Si Xu agreed so quickly that Lin Jiu felt like he’d been waiting for him to say that all along.
Si Xu wasn’t willing to leave the wounds untreated, though. He carefully disinfected the wounds and then wrapped them in bandages.
Lin Jiu got up, limped to the wardrobe, changed into a new set of pajamas—still fuzzy ones—and struggled back to bed, ready to sleep.
“I’m going to sleep for a bit. If you’re tired, you can sleep on the other side. There’s a bathrobe in the bathroom…”
His voice trailed off as he quickly fell asleep. After battling life and death and losing so much blood, he was exhausted. All he wanted to do now was sleep, and once he rested, he’d recover his energy.
He’d already forgotten that he had earlier claimed the bathroom was broken.
Si Xu stood by the bed, watching Lin Jiu for a long time. He tidied his messy hair and pulled the blanket up. Lin Jiu was sound asleep.
Si Xu cleaned up the medicine and the bottles, then went to the bathroom. As soon as he opened the door, the overwhelming stench of blood hit him.
Even though Si Xu had prepared himself, the sight inside still made him hold his breath. His fingers trembled slightly, his breathing grew heavier, and he nearly crushed the door handle. His eyes were filled with the sight of red—blood-stained white towels and bathrobes carelessly tossed on the floor, blood spattered on the tiles that hadn’t been properly cleaned, and the worst part: a bathtub full of blood!
Si Xu forced himself to steady his breathing and calm down. He glanced back at the person sleeping soundly and realized that Lin Jiu had been right not to let him see the bathroom. Otherwise, he would have dragged him to the hospital, no matter what.
Si Xu took off his jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and dragged the blood-stained carpet into the bathroom. He shut the door and began cleaning up the terrifying mess. He drained the bathtub, washed it thoroughly several times, scrubbed the bathroom floor, and rinsed away all the blood. The carpet was too large for the washing machine, so he had to scrub it by hand.
The towels and bathrobe were soaked with Lin Jiu’s blood, so he couldn’t just throw them away. Si Xu left them to soak, hoping they would come clean. Then he remembered Lin Jiu’s white fuzzy pajamas and went to the wardrobe to get them, soaking them too.
AHHHHHHH why did Lin Jiu not tell him that he’s a siren? Is it because of the system and the store? Since he knows that Si Xu has mental related superpowers, why not tell him that he is a siren? Maybe he doesn’t want everyone to know that he’s a siren as he’s afraid that word will spread huh.
