Chapter 114 – The Demon’s Intention
When the man in white robe was at a safe distance, he lowered his hood, revealing silver eyes identical to Si Xu’s. He had long silver hair, but his face was obscured by a faint, mysterious glow.
He spoke in a strange language that no one could understand.
The Demon Hunter System didn’t need Lin Jiu to prompt it and immediately translated.
[He’s speaking the Demon Spirit language. He said: ‘So, you’ve been to the Demon Sea dimension after all.’ ]
Lin Jiu and Si Xu’s faces darkened. The stranger had directly exposed their past without even the slightest attempt at probing.
The Demon Spirit language continued, and since neither Lin Jiu nor Si Xu could understand it, the system kept translating.
[I didn’t expect another Demon Spirit to appear on Earth besides me. You must have consumed quite a bit of gene-enhancement serum.]
Si Xu: “…”
Lin Jiu: “…”
The system was so panicked that its voice cracked.
[We’re done for! He must be one of the Demon Spirits from the Demon Sea dimension that got swept into Earth’s dimension! Demon Spirits have many secretive methods, and he probably put himself into some sort of stasis. He knows way too much about the Demon Sea; there’s no way we can hide anything from him!]
In fact, the stranger likely knew things that even Lin Jiu and Si Xu didn’t—because he was a true native of the Demon Sea dimension.
Since Si Xu had become a full-fledged Demon Spirit, he knew very well how strong their memory was. This Demon Spirit was definitely capable of speaking Earth’s international language; he was just choosing not to.
Si Xu asked in the international language, “You’re the one who kidnapped our mother, aren’t you?”
The Demon Spirit’s silver eyes turned toward Si Xu, and he replied in the same language, “Yes, they are with me. I have a small favor to ask of Lin Jiu. In case he refuses, I had to take his mother.”
Si Xu’s voice turned cold. “What about my mother?”
The Demon Spirit’s silver eyes showed no emotion. “Your mother is too disobedient… No, to be precise, your grandmother is too disobedient. I’ve said before that my descendants cannot be scattered; they must stay together. Your grandmother was bold enough to steal my Crystal Essence Core and flee to Z Country. Both her and your mother are useless, but you’re different. Although your bloodline is not pure, it’s commendable that you’ve awakened your powers. If you’re willing to return to me, I’ll recognize you as a true Demon Spirit.”
The system whispered to its host.
[Don’t fall for it. Demon Spirits place immense importance on pure bloodlines. They never marry outside their species. If your bloodline isn’t pure, they’ll never acknowledge you. The reason high-level bloodline purification agents are so expensive is because they’re incredibly rare and valuable. They were originally developed by a Demon Spirit for his child to purify its mixed bloodline. Later, after discovering that other races needed these agents, they made lower-tier versions. But only high-level gene-enhancing agents work on mixed-blood Demon Spirits.”]
Lin Jiu responded warily, “I don’t need your recognition. If you want my help, you’ll need to release my mother and Mrs. Si first, or I won’t agree to anything.”
With a wave of his hand, the Demon Spirit split the large ship carrying the mother plant in two. The ship slowly sank into the sea with a resounding explosion. Si Xu and Lin Jiu acted swiftly, barely managing to save the mother plant from destruction.
The enormous mother plant fell into the sea, and all of its weight pressed down on Lin Jiu and Si Xu. With the mother plant constantly struggling, it was incredibly difficult for them to maintain control, and both of their magic reserves were being rapidly depleted.
Lin Jiu and Si Xu were completely focused on the mother plant. Meanwhile, many of the workers on the massive ship had died—some were attempting to rescue others, while some were killed outright in the explosion.
The Demon Spirit spoke, “Half-blood merfolk, watch your tone. I’m not negotiating with you.”
Lin Jiu clenched his teeth in frustration. “System, help me buy some magic energy crystals!”
Without hesitation, the system purchased some of the highest-quality magic energy crystals. Lin Jiu swam over to Si Xu, grabbed his hand, and shared half of the crystals with him.
Magic energy crystals were a vital energy source for the inhabitants of the Demon Sea dimension. While they were useless for large machinery and the system itself (which required energy from Demon Crystal Essence), the system could still purchase the crystals, just not the essence.
Si Xu squeezed Lin Jiu’s hand, signaling the system to inform Lin Jiu that now wasn’t the time to provoke the Demon Spirit. Their top priority was to handle the mother plant. From the Demon Spirit’s attitude, it was clear that he didn’t care if the mother plant was destroyed.
While he didn’t care, humans certainly did!
Si Xu asked, “Whatever you want Lin Jiu to do, can we talk about it after we’ve dealt with the mother plant?”
The Demon Spirit replied, “As long as Lin Jiu comes with me, you can continue dealing with that thing. Otherwise, I don’t care if it gets destroyed right now.”
Lin Jiu shouted angrily, “If the mother plant is destroyed, the entire ocean will be contaminated. That would infect humanity and countless other species, bringing a catastrophic disaster to Earth. Is that what you want to see?”
The Demon Spirit sneered, “What does Earth’s fate have to do with me? I’m not from Earth.”
Everyone who heard him was stunned. If he wasn’t from Earth, was he an alien?
Someone on the scene cursed angrily, “You madman! This is about the survival of all humanity, and you don’t even have basic human—”
Before the speaker could finish, they were reduced to a mist of blood.
Everyone was shocked! The person who had spoken was also a powerful ability user, yet they had vanished in an instant!
Silhouettes of warships appeared on the horizon, and armed helicopters arrived overhead—these were warships from various nations that had responded to the distress call. They had been stationed at a distance, originally believing the mission to be a success, with the mother plant already retrieved and heading to a chosen volcano. But soon after, they received another distress signal—an attack, a sinking ship, and unknown casualties.
Unable to wait any longer, the warships were now speeding toward the scene.
Firepower rained down from the helicopters, but the Demon Spirit extended a hand, forming an invisible barrier that blocked all the attacks. With a wave of his other hand, explosions erupted in the air, and several helicopters plunged into the sea.
Though the Demon Spirit was powerful, the fleet he brought with him wasn’t nearly as strong. Their ships were armed and began firing back, but the vessels trapped in the middle had no choice but to fight back or evade, leading to many casualties and destroyed helicopters.
In the midst of battle, the Demon Spirit reached out and, with a flick of his hand, lifted Lin Jiu from the sea, pulling him toward him.
Si Xu quickly acted, grabbing Lin Jiu through the air to stop him from being captured.
Seeing this, the ability users from Z Country immediately launched all their attacks toward the Demon Spirit. Ability users from other countries, who had been in shock, now also joined in the fight against the Demon Spirit.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Si Xu reclaimed Lin Jiu.
Lin Jiu fell into Si Xu’s arms, and Si Xu held him tightly, speaking quickly, “You need to leave. If he can’t find you, he’ll give up.”
“But what about you…” Lin Jiu worried that Si Xu wouldn’t be able to handle the weight of the mother plant alone.
“I can. Trust me,” Si Xu replied confidently. He was determined to complete the task.
Lin Jiu handed over all his magic energy crystals to Si Xu. “I’m withdrawing—keep it steady.”
Si Xu nodded. “Alright, go!”
Lin Jiu released his water prison, transferring all the weight and force onto the barrier that Si Xu had created.
Si Xu let go of Lin Jiu. “Go, quickly!”
Lin Jiu disappeared from the spot and reappeared on the beach of Xipolo Island, where he tumbled onto the sand.
After the rough landing, a thought suddenly struck him, and he urgently asked, “Ask Golofitz if he knows how to destroy the mother plant!”
Golofitz, speaking through the system, responded.
[I won’t help you for free anymore!]
Lin Jiu snapped angrily, “There’s a member of your race here on Earth, and he’s sabotaging our plan. Do you really think you can just refuse to help?!”
Golofitz paused for a moment, then answered more calmly.
[Some of our kind did go missing during the great disaster, but whether they survived or not, we don’t know. Now you’re asking me to help because of my kin, but it’s like expecting all humans to be responsible if you caused me trouble. That’s unreasonable. I can’t help, and I won’t. Whatever conflict you have with him is your problem, not ours.”]
Lin Jiu was furious. “If your people don’t concern you, then the energy vault should! I found an energy vault. You better help, or I won’t give you any of the Demon Crystal cores.”
[Golofitz: !!!!!!!]
Worried that Lin Jiu might be lying, Golofitz had the Demon Spirit’s main system search the Demon Hunter System’s memories, and to his shock, they really had found an energy vault! The problem was that the Demon Crystal Essence wasn’t on Lin Jiu; it was stored in Si Xu’s spatial ring.
Golofitz thought for a moment and came up with an idea.
[“I’ll have the Demon Spirit main system adjust the price. You can buy an unlimited spatial ring for 100,000 magic points… the original price is 2 million, so this is a steal for you…”]
Ignoring Golofitz’s rambling, Lin Jiu immediately spent 100,000 magic points to purchase the unlimited spatial ring. He also bought several high-quality magic energy crystals and then returned to the sea.
By this point, Lin Jiu’s magic points were nearly depleted, and Golofitz, having already seen his dwindling balance, begrudgingly adjusted the price.
Lin Jiu returned to find the situation on the sea in utter chaos. The warships had already started firing, destroying all the foreign vessels, causing their own ships to sway from the impact. The ability users were unleashing their powers, all focused on dealing with the Demon Spirit.
The Demon Spirit, seeing Lin Jiu disappear, became agitated. Unable to capture Lin Jiu, he shifted his attention to Si Xu, attempting to grab him instead.
With Lin Jiu now gone, Si Xu had to handle the mother plant on his own. Not only did he have to expend most of his energy keeping the mother plant from sinking, but he also had to fend off the Demon Spirit’s attacks.
When Lin Jiu reappeared, Si Xu was already covered in wounds. Silver-red blood dripped from him, pooling on the sea beneath his feet. Despite his injuries, he continued to hold on, preventing the mother plant from sinking back into the ocean.
Lin Jiu quickly raised a thick wall of water to separate the Demon Spirit from Si Xu.
Surprised, Si Xu asked, “Why did you come back?”
“I’ve brought back an infinite space ring. We can store the mother plant and the contaminated seawater inside. Let’s lift it together and put it in!”
As Lin Jiu spoke, he swam toward the distance, using a water dragon to support the mother plant, which was already halfway submerged.
With a loud shout, Lin Jiu commanded, “Lift it up!”
Together, Lin Jiu and Si Xu exerted their strength, raising the massive mother plant along with a portion of the seawater into the air. Lin Jiu raised the infinite space ring, unleashed all of his magic energy, and in a flash, the mother plant and the seawater vanished before everyone’s eyes.
Everyone watching: “??!!!!!”
With the weight of the mother plant lifted, Si Xu staggered, exhausted and panting.
After storing the mother plant, Lin Jiu quickly dove into the sea to hide, fearing the Demon Spirit might capture him again.
Seeing Lin Jiu disappear only to reappear once more, the Demon Spirit grew increasingly agitated and enraged. He bent down, grabbed the seawater, and violently overturned it, causing the entire surface of the sea to tilt. Two warships were directly struck by the massive wave, pushed far into the distance by the towering wall of water.
The Demon Spirit repeated this action, flipping over all the warships attacking them. Not only the warships, but even the vessels carrying the ability users and his own people were tossed into each other, colliding and drifting far away. The few lucky ships that survived were soon lifted into the air and smashed against the intact ships in the distance, explosions erupting one after another.
The Demon Spirit, in his fury, seemed capable of destroying the heavens and the earth!
After catching his breath, Si Xu rushed at the frenzied Demon Spirit, and the two began to battle.
Si Xu was already wounded, and his bloodline was not as pure as the Demon Spirit’s, making him physically weaker. However, defeating Si Xu easily wasn’t an option for the Demon Spirit either.
Lin Jiu, watching the fierce battle from the sea, was terrified. He quickly told the system to contact Golofitz, demanding two advanced gene enhancement serums!
Even the system was startled by Lin Jiu’s bold request. Two advanced gene enhancement serums cost a staggering 10 million magic points! There was no way Golofitz would agree to such a demand unless he had lost his mind.
[Dad, please wake up! He won’t agree to that. Do you have any idea how much Demon Crystal Cores that would cost?]
Lin Jiu responded urgently, “He has to agree, or we’ll die here, and he’ll get nothing! I’ve got a vault full of Demon Crystal Essence waiting for him. Once I’m free, I’ll have the energy collection system convert it. Ask him if he’s interested!”
The system relayed Lin Jiu’s request to the Demon Spirit’s main system, asking the higher-ups for help.
Golofitz’s reply came swiftly.
[He says you’ll need to make concessions in the upcoming negotiations, or it’s a no-deal.]
Lin Jiu: “Fine! As long as it doesn’t cross my bottom line, I’ll agree to anything!”
[He expects you to keep your word. The two advanced bloodline purification serums are now in your inventory.]
Lin Jiu immediately opened his inventory, retrieved the two advanced serums, and drank one himself. He stored the remaining serum in his space ring, knowing it would take some time for the effects to fully kick in.
Lin Jiu then submerged himself in the sea and swam toward the two combatants. Suddenly, two water dragons rose from the water, one lunging toward the Demon Spirit. However, before the dragon could reach him, its head was severed, and the water dragon dissolved into a shower of water droplets.
Meanwhile, Si Xu had been pulled back by the other water dragon to Lin Jiu’s side.
Lin Jiu pulled out two serums. “Drink these quickly!”
One serum was an advanced bloodline purification agent, and the other was a powerful healing potion.
After consuming both serums, Si Xu’s wounds disappeared instantly, and his bloodline began purifying. As long as they could stall for enough time for the bloodline to fully purify, the two of them together would no longer be at a disadvantage!
But the Demon Spirit wasn’t going to give them time to purify. He reached out to grab Lin Jiu from a distance, but Si Xu quickly intervened, pulling Lin Jiu away and using the Demon Spirit Blade to sever the Demon Spirit’s telekinetic hold. Lin Jiu, with Si Xu, dove into the depths of the ocean, preparing for guerrilla warfare to buy more time.
The Demon Spirit, frustrated by his failed attempts to capture Lin Jiu and Si Xu, stood amidst the wreckage of ships and bodies on the surface of the sea and spoke calmly.
“You can come out now. Let’s talk this over. My request is simple: if Lin Jiu can send me back to the Demon Sea dimension, I’ll let your mother plant go. How about it? Doesn’t that sound easy?”
Underwater, Lin Jiu and Si Xu exchanged glances, realizing they had already anticipated this demand.
Unfortunately, things weren’t so simple. For the Demon Spirit to travel to the Demon Sea dimension with Lin Jiu, they would need to form a marriage bond—a contract that Lin Jiu would never agree to, which meant the Demon Spirit would never be able to return.
The Demon Spirit continued to try to persuade them, “Neither of you belongs to Earth’s dimension. Why not come with me to the Demon Sea dimension? The civilization there is far beyond anything on Earth, and you could have everything you’ve ever wanted.”
“I know Lin Jiu can travel to the Demon Sea dimension, right? Your ingredients, your fruit wine, and your magic cuisine all come from the Demon Sea. And since you know how to make magic cuisine, that must mean you have a master who’s skilled in it. Oh, and didn’t you just use an infinite space ring? If you come with me to the Demon Sea, I can give you the highest honor in the Demon Spirit clan. Anything you want, I can give you.”
Lin Jiu hid Si Xu behind the wreckage of a ship and swam to a distance before surfacing to speak.
“The Magic Sea Plane has nothing now, only an endless ocean. It’s in the early stages of species origin. What do you think you could do there?”
Lin Jiu was wary that the demon-spirit might strike again, but surprisingly, he didn’t. It seemed like he just wanted to keep talking to Lin Jiu.
When the demon-spirit heard the news about the Magic Sea Plane, he became extremely excited. “Have you been there? Is it true that no other races exist?”
Lin Jiu confirmed, “No, there’s only seawater and sea creatures, but no intelligent species.”
The demon-spirit pressed, “Then how did you get the gene enhancement serum? Did you acquire a growth-type system?! Give me that system!”
The system screamed in panic.
[I’m exposed! I’m exposed! I’m exposed!]
The demon-spirit suddenly attacked, but Lin Jiu raised the water to block it, darting into the ocean depths as the demon-spirit’s power seeped into the water to grab him.
Lin Jiu flipped over in the water, unleashing a siren’s shriek. The piercing sound echoed through the layers of water, reaching the surface. Even the demon-spirit had to create a space barrier to protect his ears and brain from the sound’s impact.
Seizing the opportunity, Si Xu broke through the water’s surface, swinging his demon blade down. The demon-spirit raised his arm to block, shattering his white robe and revealing a tight silver armor underneath—an outfit typical of the demon-spirit clan, one Si Xu had never seen before.
The silver armor had high defense; even taking Si Xu’s full strike left it undamaged. Instead, the demon-spirit’s power sent Si Xu reeling backward.
The demon-spirit raged, “Ungrateful wretches! Aren’t you afraid I’ll have my people kill those two half-bloods immediately?!”
To be honest, Lin Jiu was terrified, but he couldn’t sit idle. He didn’t know what other tricks a full-blooded demon-spirit might have up his sleeve, but if the system was taken from him, it would be over. He wouldn’t survive.
So, the best option was to kill this demon-spirit first!
